Ukraine's Military Mobilizes, Prepares For Combat: Trucks, APCs, SAMs, Howitzers, Tanks Rolling Out

Tyler Durden's picture

Did somebody say de-escalation?

Earlier today, photos were distributed showing the latest military convoy reinforcements heading into the Crimea, accompanies by a Police car demonstrating Moscow license plate numbers, most likely providing further support to the pro-Russian forces in the peninsula.

Supposedly the trucks are carrying troops to reinforces the members of the new Crimean army, pictured below:

While at the same time along the makeshift border between Crimea and the mainland, the Pro-Russian forces are putting down minefields.

However, the Ukrainians, having already been mobilized for over a week, finally appear set to seize back the offensive:

The first clip below captured the 80th Airborne Regiment out of Lviv moving out, direction mainland, preparing to repel foreign attack.

The next video shows what are allegedly Buk SAM batteries deployed in the Donetsk region, a city in Eastern Ukraine which in the past week has swayed between Ukraine and Russian authority.

The clip below shows the 95th Airborne brigade also moving out of their barracks in Zhytomyr in western Ukraine, heading East, with an impressive deployment of trucks and APCs.

2S19 "Msta-S" 152mm Howitzers on the move to Crimea.

Finally, 20 T-64 tanks preparing to depart in Bila Tserkva, a city in central Ukraine:

So where again are all those pundits who were so eager to explain away the Ukraine confrontation as one that will promptly be forgotten, and is by now most certainly priced in?

The moral of the story; NEVER SURRENDER YOUR NUKES!

Ukraine gave them up in 1994, I bet they wish they'd stashed away a dozen or two.  Well,  at least they can drive don to Chernobyl, make a few thousands "dirty bombs" and make the Crimea unlivable for anyboby!

All Russia has to do is sit pretty, clearly project a willingness to use force if needed, stay very active in the global media, and let Ukrainian-Russians come to them asking for support, while leaving the rest of Ukraine to continue falling apart into a cesspit hybrid of continued corruption, nationalistic fascism and EU-vassal austerity, all of which conspire to punish normal, day-to-day people and convince them ever more that siding with Russia is the better of two shitty deals.

Goddamn, that was one sentence. Almost as long as the Tylers.

If they pull it off then there's no pressing need for any territory to change hands, the gas flows as before, Europe is satisfied, Russia is satisfied, Ukraine starts getting its shit together with a better government, and only America's hegemonic ambitions are offended.

The only things standing in the way of a peaceful outcome are thugs like Nuland whose arrogance and impatience completely blew away the more careful manipulations of the EU. Merkel et al must be pissed.

(Of course if they don't pull it off, ie, NATO gets involved in support of the new bizarre fascist-liberal fusion in Kyiv, then this gets messy and Ukraine splits into two).

Assuming half of them don't just walk up to the Russians, shake hands, say, "go home lads, we've got this", then head straight back to Kyiv. Admittedly, a bunch of them probably already joined the new Crimean force, but it still wouldn't be surprising. Morale in the Ukraine military must be pretty challenged right now.

Nuland's husband wrote the game plan for the necons. You made a lot of good points, but this thing has deeper roots. The Americans don't just want puppet gov't in the Ukraine, they want one in Russia and Kazakhstan.

Mediocritas's picture

Yeah, they want the whole damn world. Don't I know it. When I spoke of the EU's more subtle manipulations I was implying the same deeper roots you speak of. It's all the same neoliberal agenda, just that Nuland and co. represent a more militant wing of it.

If they don't get Ukraine swaying the way they want right at this time, there are plenty of other options. Moldova? Belarus?

It's entertaining to watch Russia put up something of a fight, but at the end of the day, it's outmanned, outgunned, and uses the wrong language to win a propaganda war. It may have a few wins (Syria, Ukraine), but it still loses the war. Besides, Russia has its own collection of neolibs who will undermine attempts to resist the international $borg first chance they get, plus a bunch of corrupted oligarchs (including Putin) who are basically poured from the same cast as Western oligarchs / neolibs, just that they haven't figured out it's more profitable to collaborate when milking the peasants.

They're all bad guys basically. We can only dream of a world where democracy is strong, citizens are politically educated and active, and power is distributed as widely as possible, finding opposition wherever it concentrates. (That means opposing hoarding of wealth and hoarding of knowledge as well).

Coming from you that means something JB. Cheers.

I wish people wouldn't fall so easily for the labels, red, blue, left, right, West, East, etc. The labels are used to con good people into serving the evil ambitions of bad men, appealing to our emotional and tribal nature.

My [late] father-in-law was instrumental in setting me straight. A police criminology instructor (later chief), he wouldn't tolerate any ranking of people by some territorial, political or philosophical label. The only label that mattered to him was evil. Some men (and some women) are plain bad, psychopaths and sociopaths, and blind-siding oneself to the evil within members of the in-tribe is a great mistake.

These monsters care nothing for tribal boundaries, all they want is power. Complicit MSM lets us all rest easy in the knowledge that the only bad guys are in the out-tribes...uh huh.

Back of the envelope calculation from a few years back, but a gallon of gas is the energy equivalent of about 480 man hours of sustainable human labor. At current minimum wage, that's about $3500 per gallon.

So, yeah, it's more expensive than it was, but still damn cheap! Awesome leverage.

+1. I see more younger people getting information through the web, ignoring the MSM bullshit. That's also something to be optimistic about IMO.

Older generations (even my generation X) have a habit of writing off the "millennials", but when I talk to them, they're a hell of a lot more savvy than they're given credit for. Beneath all the iGatgetry and apparent disconnection, they actually know more about the world than I remember my generation knowing about at that age. I don't write them off, it's the boomers that I write off, even my fellow X'ers too. Basically, anyone who saw the American Dream as a real possibility is a write-off. They'll continue to deny reality, even when it smacks them in the face. Millennials seem to have accepted that their future isn't full of unicorns.

Then again, maybe it's just a bias caused by the people I associate with. Time will tell.

Defeating the Ukrainian military is only the first step.

True, but I'd say that the IMF has almost completed that step already.

More pertinent is how do you pacify tens of millions of angry Ukrainians? These are not Free Shit Army sheeple were talking about.

The IMF also has a well established procedure for "dealing with" the civilian population. First they extend loans which are contingent upon implementation of  "free market reforms". After the corrupt national "leaders" pocket half of the loan money and the rest goes to favored western contractors, and the country is on the verge of default, the IMF implements "austerity measures" to keep everyone impoverished and starving.

Slavs are tough mother fuckers.....

They'll need to be, because they just sold their next four or five generations into debt slavery.

on a serious note if the Ukrainians won't fight now they'll never fight and Vlad knows it, he'll just keep dismembering Ukraine until there's nothing left. If they fight Vlad loses because if he captures and occupies the entire country then he's got tens of millions of fifth columnists and a large hostile occupation, Russians killing almost russians

At 4:16 you can see the sign:

Nizhnebakanskiy 7km (a.k.a. Nizhnebakánskaya on Google maps)
Krymsk 19km

which puts them in Russian territory, in and around Gorniy (sign seen at 2:22), which you can find on bing maps by looking up coordinates: 44.866, 37.744 or on Google maps also by looking up its name: Russia, Krasnodar Krai, Novorossiysk, Gornyy.

The sign at 4:16 also means that the car recording the video is heading east and the military vehicles are heading west towards the Kerch strait which separates Russia from the Crimean peninsula.

Edit: They could also be going to a base in Novorossiysk, which is a port city to the south.

Accurate, I think.  Crimea will no longer be governed from Kiev, that much is certain.  But I believe Putin will allow the remaining Ukrainian regions (with substantial prodding, of course) to make their own choices as to where their loyalties lie.  As others have noted, there is zero net benefit to Russia in occupying western Ukraine, and this is very, very unlikely to happen; the western nationalists will be perfectly happy to fight and die in a war with Russia, as long as they can take a few Russians with them.

thank you for your posting.

"Crimea will no longer be governed from Kiev, that much is certain."

agree in part.

the new ukraine will have autonomy for crimea for some things, perhaps 'commerce', for example. but i do think there will be a single 'ukraine'. putin has said "no annexation", and i think he said that to the people of the crimea (speaking to the world as a front) because a.) he knows the world won't take it, and b.) more importantly, the people of crimea won't tolerate being under russian control. especially the russian speaking folks, cause they know russian history.

i believe that the reason the russian 'troops' are not wearing the insignia is not because it is barred in the treaty that allows the troops at bases, but because the crimean people, all of them, don't want to be under putin's control. and they would fight to prevent it. and putin knows that.

business ok....maybe...governance.....never.

and my second hunch is that this is the first time you have run across that perspective...anywhere.

nothing like making forecasts in public to hone one's own perceptions.

Don't imagine Russia will go down without causing Massive Collateral damage everywhere.

The USA would have to be pig ignorant to think that Russia doesn't understand what the game is and would be too afraid to preemptively act if that brings the best results.

The US has been able to cause trouble everywhere without risking their backyard.

China and Russia know that as soon as US soil gets to feel some of the trouble US resolve in their games will crumble.

I thinnk Obama is just stupid enough to try and save some face by delving into this bullshit at this late date. The media I see and hear are ripping him a new one and he desperatelty needs something positive to cling to. Putin is laying mines now, and sinking his own warships to block the Ukranian navy this is permanant and for real. There is no way the US can backtrack this. It's just too fucking late. Our community organizer was asleep at the wheel. What difference could it possibly make. Damn what a bunch of absolute clueless fuck ups we have in government. The funny thing is there no real difference between Putin and Obama. They both want to piss down your back and tell you it's raining. Pass the popcorn, this is getting good.

I have stated in comments many times - Putin cannot afford to hand over Crimea - and he can little afford to allow Ukraine to become a puppet of the banksters (EU, US, IMF etc) - they will leverage it to secure the resources of Russia, with the obvious consequences of the destruction of the Russian culture and economy.

There is NO LIMIT to the response by Putin in this regard - if the banksters escalate the use of force, Putin will respond with a further escalation.  Putin will always assure that his force is greater, more ruthless and more effective than any force he believes may be raised against Russian interests.  When they bring one gun, Putin will bring five.

PS: I wish people would just stop with using Obama's name - it is a total deception, Obama has nothing to do with anything.  You can replace him with anyone - the political system is controlled by the banksters through the MIC (military industrial complex) through oil power, through media power, through AIPAC headed by internationlist clubs like the Bilderberg's, CFR, IMF, NATO and so forth.  I wish people would stop looking at the puppets on the stage, and start assessing the motives of the puppetmasters.  On the other side, nobody is pulling Putins strings - he is at the head of an ideological group who are in the business of restoring the Russian culture, economic and military powers - they are ideologues and will make any sacrifice - they are not decieved by the puppets, they know who the enemy is.

For Histoical reference the Crimean wars in 1850 took about 500,000 Ukranian fatalities. Then WW1 took 1.5 million Ukranian dead, then Stallen had an intentional starvation purge of about 10 million deaths. All Ukranians know the realities of where military wars can go. The ones I know are fully worried.
