The American Dream Is Hardest To Achieve In...
While we noted the top-down dismal demise of the American Dream of upward mobility over the weekend, Bloomberg has crunched the numbers and ranks the 50 most populous cities in the US on the difficulty of obtaining upward mobility in a low-wage job. The American dream is hardest to achieve in... Miami.
METHODOLOGY: Using the fast-food industry as a proxy, four jobs were selected to create the employment-weighted composite fast-food worker pay for each MSA: combined food preparation and serving workers, including fast food; cooks, fast food; counter attendants, cafeteria, food concession, and coffee shop; and food-preparation workers. The “immobility score” was based on three factors that promote upward mobility: housing, a college degree and health-care coverage.
For full methodology, see here.

The American Dream Circa 2014 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPWH5TlbloU
You see the godless, cultureless monkeys on television parading around in the nude with constant lewd conduct with a penchant for the obscene (fiat-debt, destructive man-woman relations, undoing of the family, etc.)? The agenda was to drive humans around the world to be like them. America was the pilot nation, and it 'exported' little Americas to the rest of the world, where culture once flourished. It's all dying, and it's up to all of us to make the choice to keep it alive.
So you're sayin' theres a chance!
Notice how most of those cities are run by liberals?
Where is Moscow on chart!?
Where's Terre Haute on that chart.
Duped... Weird.
All things die, up to and including planets, suns, galaxies. I don't think cultures are immune.
When the last star dies, this universe will be a very cold place. Until then, we have a chance to have real culture instead of manufactured pop culture.
The details of my life are quite inconsequential. Very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Some times he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy, the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical, summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds, pretty standard really. At the age of 12 I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum, it's breathtaking, I suggest you try it.
That's quite the life Froman! Do you have Vilma's number? ;)
Your line "godless culture monkeys with a penchant for the obscene" ...Loved that line! reminded me of the speech from Dr. Evil... I could not resist ;-)
"Manufactured pop culture..."
So you are saying that there will be a day when Ukraine, Fukishima, the designing paper money by the Banking England & cohort Central Banks, the criminal activities of the Bank of International Settlements & New York Branch of The Federal Non-Reserve, Syrian Liver Eater Al-CIAda Mercenaries, financial raping of taxpayers by the CronyCapitalistOliharchy that owns alleged representatives of alleged sovereign nations, etc., etc., etc., will NOT BE OUTSHADOWED BY A JUSTIN BIEBER VIDEO DEPOSITION?
Thats 'cuz Miami is the Joosiest town around...
I remember when the American Dream was getting your name listed in the phone book.
- Navin R. Johnson
But then if you didn't want it listed they charged you.

You're about 40 years late. Your "Joos" headed up the coast decades ago.
To New Joosey?
I guess you have not been to Miami Beach.
It's all a dream we had inside a locked room
And like a lot of dreams, there's a monster at the end. Glad I'm not the only True Detective fan around here
It's a Creature, and it hails from Jekyll Island, bitchez.
The real creatures were the Dulles Bros. and the law firm Sullivan and Cromwell...
i think i would rather be homeless in miami than work for macd in st-louis ...
In Miami, even the homeless are constantly worried about saving face.
Zombie Rick James: "Bath salts is a hell of a drug."
It was hot, and he was hungry.
you ARE pragmatic!
Finally, something positive for St. Louis.
I'm surprised St. Louis isn't higher on the list: Everything is freaking expensive here.
Could it be?
Hello.
Somewhat off topic, but funny.
Plug power shares plunge more than 20% after analyst puts fair value at 50 cents.

The American Dream Is Hardest To Achieve In...
America.
Da-dum-dum. Dumb.
Gave you a greenie if you're referring to the 'Murikan population as a whole.
Used to work for a guy that had a very insightful saying: "Want to be worth $1M dollars in Florida quick? Move to Florida with $2M"

Nice myth. He is the son of a wealthy prescription-drug-company executive who started as a slum lord with seed capital from daddy. Made plenty of political connections during an alleged scandal plagued tenure as the economic development director city of Miami before launching his development career.
+1
Also backed by drug money and Russian oligarch gangster loot in Miami, Miami Beach and North Miami Beach.
The people who promoted "Florida" the most were from New York. And maybe Chicago. Enough said.
Hispanics are highly motivated and many have 2 jobs. The metrics used for this article do not reflect the incredible dirve that Cubans and other immigrants have.
Many here in IA hold down two jobs as well, but still, I always wonder, why when they take a shit they put the feces infested asswipe in the garbage can. Don't tell me it's the poor sewer systems because that generation is long gone.
If you have your own septic system (not the city's) you don't want it filled or plugged up with TP.
Man, I once worked at a place like that with lots of latino immigrants. There were wastepaper baskets next to all the toilets that would be filled before emptying. It made the bathroom really stinky and you made sure never to look in the wastepaper basket.
I have a friend who used to work down there. His girlfriend had an aunt with a small store in her apt with stolen property and her dad sold cociana on the side. I have also seen examples where recent immigrants do not pay taxes and come up with endless ways to get benefits and avoid taxes. Go away.
I believe your story but seeing as I live in FL that would be a small minority of hispanics. The only panhandlers down here are white males down on their luck and unwilling to pick oranges like a Mexican.
All four of Florida's major cities are in the top 10. This is what happens when you allow a criminal to buy the position of governor.
All the rejects moved here because the weather is nice.
On the flipside the rejects move away from the northern teir of the midwest because it regularly snows six months out of the year.
Plus it has several miltary bases. No state Income Tax either. Great for keeping the house (and assets on property) in case of bankruptcy: it worked for Burt Reynolds andfor OJ.
The mandatory Hurricane Insurance, the property taxes, lawn care, pool care, HVAC care... will kill you. So will the utility bills (AC in the summer). Nobody ever likes to talk about the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership), unless they're leaving the state.
FL? NEVER Again! Not even to visit. Sorry.

Sounds about right, as a by the by GC warned that they were coming after your pensions next.......
It's a big club and you ain't in it....
What retarded methodoloy they are using.
They averaged San Francisco, Oakland and Fremont together like it's one area. Fremont is probalby half the cost of San Francisco. That totally invalidates the data. If you just showed San Francisco alone, it should be in the top 5, not at #38??
Useless charting from useless financial media.
It's been posted a million times, and it's important enough to be posted a million more

Bienvenido a Miami
Party on the beach while the heat is on.
yes but does it really matter if you're an upwardly mobile fast worker in Cleveland? on the other hand if i was midlevel management, or entreprenuer, or run a nice bistro, i am barely noticed in NY or LA. if you believe the system is really egalitarian, then the lowest income person is better off where there are the most opportunities, and the guy who has an idea, or a business already may be better off in a market where their work will really stand out. has always been thus i think
truth is that if you don't have 11 figures socked away by now the ptb don't give a crap about you.
Note the % of workers having healthcare coverage in MA is skewed by MittyCare in MA.
The Yuppie dream is over. The whole "wanna be uber" "wanna pretend to have it all" conformist consumerist mentality has died an ugly death.
Sadly, the American dream was confused with the yuppie dream for a very long time. And there is little to replace it.
But dreams can become delusions and dystopias very easily.
You dont have to have a yuppie consumerist mentality to advance yourself economically and achieve the american dream.
In fact, that type of mentality will prevent you from taking risk, making sacrifices, and ultimately collecting the wealth to move up
It's Miami, Miami, My Miami for Me!
Old Vistors' Bureau jingle for Miami.
What? Not Miami! What will become of Crockett and Tubbs?
Oh, nevermind:
"Don Johnson is keen to move on and take up the film career that is knocking at his door and to begin a new career as a producer of films and television, while Mann is keen to return to movies. Philip Michael Thomas — the egotistical but likeable young actor – wants to explore other TV and movie roles, while Edward James Olmos, after his tour de force performance in Stand and Deliver is in hot demand for movies. And NBC, the network that runs Miami Vice in the U.S., says that with slowing ratings, and newer hip cop shows like Wiseguy & 21 Jump Street, it is time to call it quits down in Miami and move on."
Is this the American Shoe Throwing Index analog?
Miami is a great city. This chart is useless drivel - useful in front of the right audience. wink, wink. More hand-outs just vote for me...please.
The immigrants that came to Miami, mainly Cuban and Bahamian worked hard and expected nothing but achieved much more than they could possible dream of back in their old countries. They "worked" for it.
Sadly the people born here are brainwashed into "unrealistic expectations" and are never told to work hard for it.
That's Life, don't waste it.
Want to see a great and very realistic movie about Cubans trying to cross the FL Straits? "Una Noche"
The American dream today is to imprison the Globalists and take back the Country.
Long live the revolution.
Wait a minute. They are defining "immobility" as the cost of rent and community college, plus not having health insurance?
What does any of that have to do with immobility? OK, I can see how some naive idiot would think community college leads to a high-paying job, but rent and health insurance?
"In this country, you gotta make the money first. Then when you get the money, you get the power. Then when you get the power, then you get the women. "

The rest of you all are doing it wrong
My parents owned a restaurant and we had only one career food service employee. She was a waitress, how high up the chain do you think one might get in food service? Of course the rest were part time school aged people so this might just be a shitty indicator of well nothing... Fucking fast food worker upward mobility? Who the fuck thought that shit up on my taxes no less.
Boston came in 11th. Isn't gentrification the best?
