The Tanks Are Coming While Russia, US "Remain At Odds" Over Ukraine

Tyler Durden's picture

With Interfax reporting that Belarus has begun full-scale military drills in a "readiness check", images from Russia and Ukraine suggest the worst-case scenario - that Russia is making preparations to invade Ukraine, not just Crimea but perhaps as far west as Kharkiv, or even beyond - is more possible. Talks have broken down:

  • *LAVROV SAYS RUSSIA, U.S. REMAIN AT ODDS ON UKRAINE: INTERFAX
  • *LAVROV SAYS RUSSIA TO RESPECT `WILL' OF CRIMEAN PEOPLE

Russia now has a massive force of tanks, troops, artillery, aircraft, and naval forces in position to potentially invade mainland Ukraine from Crimea in the south, but also from positions east and north of Ukraine.

Lavrov adds:

  • *LAVROV SAYS RUSSIA TO RESPECT CHOICE MADE AT CRIMEAN REFERENDUM
  • *LAVROV SAYS KERRY `DIDN'T THREATEN RUSSIA WITH ANYTHING'
  • *LAVROV SAYS WESTERN SANCTIONS WOULD BE COUNTERPRODUCTIVE

And subtley poitning out the hypocrisy:

  • RUSSIA'S LAVROV SAYS IF KOSOVO WAS A SPECIAL CASE THEN CRIMEA SHOULD BE A SPECIAL CASE TOO

Then Lavrov said this:

  • RUSSIA HAS HAD AND CAN HAVE NO PLANS TO INVADE SOUTHEAST OF UKRAINE - LAVROV

Which seems to run counter to the following images pouring in from across Russia of even more firepower on the move.

And images suggest more to come...

And finally:

  • *LAVROV SAYS `EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS WHAT CRIMEA MEANS FOR RUSSIA'

Which we suspect is why all the tanks are rolling

I can't imagine Putin wanting to start a war against America or NATO. As strong as Russia is, the US is far more powerful, and Europe is still a paying customer of oil and gas. He must know something the rest of us don't, so he's getting ready for some future conflict. I still see Russia and China as acting defensively. Russia is setting up a buffer zone against western Europe, he gave SAMs to his allies in Syria and Iran, and China is setting up a buffer zone in the sea where its most vital shipping is.

This is starting to get scary because American media has turned into the kind of retarded propaganda seen in USSR. Someone clearly wants global warfare, and everyone is acting with that assumption in mind.

The bastard "war hero" McShitstain wants it for sure:

Sen. McCain:

The United States should not be imposing an arms embargo on a victim of aggression. Putin’s Russia has invaded Ukraine and is planning to annex Crimea. Russian forces are massing on Ukraine’s border, raising concerns of a widening military intervention. Now is the time to show the Ukrainian government and people that the United States stands with them in their hour of greatest need.

Of course Putin doesn't want a war.  Does him no good, and a lot of harm.  Europe still needs natural gas.  There's been some delusional silliness that they could get the energy they need elsewhere but the infrastructure and supplies don't exist.  Russia and China even more so have global power based on selling things people need, not military intimidation and coercion.  All their interests are defensive in nature.  Putin's military preparations are set against armed ideological insurgents who want to let NATO set up operations in Putin's front porch, not against NATO itself.

Exactly. Putin is protecting his interests and all of those troops, by the way, are on Russian territory, they are not in the Ukraine, except for Crimea which had previous troop agreements with Russia.

Without the presence of Russian troops in Crimea, there would have been extremely disastrous confrontations if Kiev sent tanks and troops to this Russian cultural area.

That’s the reason Russia went in; these people are in danger from these idiots who stormed public buildings in Kiev making targets of elected officials and banning formerly legal political parties in parliament. Without the presence of Russian troops in Crimea, Sevastopol would have been a war zone.

I say easier. U.S. presented  to Putin an ultimatum: We want to kill the Russian as a state. But if you do not agree, there will be war.
Putin chose the second option.

Putin is not the ones pushing it here.  The West is provoking the situation.  The West is the problem in the Ukraine.  Putin is only doing what is prudent at this point.  Russia cannot afford to let the West plant itself in Ukraine and take over the economy and use them as a base in Russia's back yard.

The US is not "that" much more powerful in military might.  All it takes is one nuke and Russia has plenty of them.  I  can't believe the  US is provoking this war.  I think they want it and are just trying to be sure Russia is perceived as the bad guy.  The only winners here will be the elitist bankers who sit back and drink 12 yr old scotch while the world burns itself down over bs and lies.  When the smoke clears the banksters roll back out and pick up where they left off and everyone left thinks they (the banksters) are the white knights when in fact they caused is all to begin with.

There are powerful NeoconCrazies who think we can (and should) win a preemptive nuclear strike against Russia. Our country is largely controlled by madmen who pull the strings on their puppet, Obama. And yes, the NeoCrazies work for the Banksters. Their media has control over 80% of the American sheeple. We truly live in dangerous times. I thought syria a few months ago could lead to WW3. This one is just as dangerous.

Thank goodness someone sees the truth. So tired of hearing how the Ruskies are gonna crush us with their newfangled weapons our MIC haven't ever thought about the sinsiter su35 and tor whatever the hell.

OTOH what Putin's prepping for are the resource wars. And, the grand game redux. Whoever controls eurasia controls the whole world. Which is why it makes no sens to unite China and Russia. Unless of course, the NWO is the goal. Then, uniting C and R and disarming US rednecks makes all kinds of sense. I dunno, right now I see US backing down because of logistic reasons. Otherwise we're fighting a two front war (China will make it's move while we're distracted wtih Russia) with long supply lines against homegrown foes. Hard to win even with superior conventional weaponry.

More casus belli for NATO to plunge into Ukraine.

NATO can't get the green light until Russian trips over the red line.

NATO/EU/IMF/BIS want Russia to invade eastern Ukraine and hold everything east of the Dnieper.

The problem is the MTV crowd at western staff colleges have never fought a modern war against a modern opponent. Been killing hajis with 40mm Bofors from 20,000 ft. Been holding those joysticks a little too tight.  Drones don't hold ground.  That's the next evolution of warbots.

If everyone really wants to go full retard on this, then expect an asymmetric attack via that "missing" plane everyone is hysterically mystified by.  At some point someone will figure out it got flown to Pakistan and refitted as a commercial flight and loaded with an EMP device and sent on a non-stop flight to the good ol' USA. As fantastical as it sounds, it's probability is now not zero.  Maybe 0.01%.  Wargame that Padawan.

Hard to fight WW5 when all your lights are turned off in the Homeland.

And why is any of this happening again?

Thanks a lot assholes.

"NATO/EU/IMF/BIS"?

the first is a military alliance, ok. that it wants to "invade eastern Ukraine" is new to me

the second is a trade alliance, as in "no tanks"

the third is a fund where the US is under siege to give in and let the BRICS increase their shares or "print" SDRs. China and Russia are members of the IMF, among other 180 countries

the fourth is the housebank of the world's top 60 national banks. again, look at it's membership

you are sure you don't belong to the MTV crowd, I suppose

Well put.

No way the BRICS will join a SDR regime controlled(by blocking vote) by the US.

No way the US relinquishes that blocking vote.

Putin has Crimea,he will leave the bankrupt shell of the Ukraine to disolve into civil

war before intervening further. At which point both NATO ,and the EU will be begging for

his intervention to stabilize their eastern members.

The Russians are renowned for their patience, and time is not on the West's side.

[1] The pro EU-US putsch regime in Kiev is a product of nearly 25 years of planning and enormous funding by political agencies of the US government.  According to William Blum (Anti-Empire Report#126, 03/07/2014), the self-styled National Endowment for Democracy bankrolled 65 projects involving political indoctrination and the formation of political action groups.  Under-Secretary of State Victoria Nuland boasted that the US government had spent over $5 billion dollars preparing the ground for the putsch in Kiev.

Just heard Sen. Harry Ried plead for. $1 billion loan guarantee for Ukraine and said he has personal interest to pass $ 1 billion package because his father-in-law was a Ukranian Jew who fled Ukraine some 50 years ago.
He is now dead and he obviously can't go back to Ukraine so just what is rational for appropriating $ 1 billion that will be squandered by corrupt politicians ? Besides, they will need at least 30 billion which can never be paid back if country is divided as it certainly will be. Another tiny defenseless little country that must knuckle under to the U.S. empire with a garrison of U.S. troops there to guarantee its continuing "independence."

In the newspeak of the day, independence is another word for serfdom.

And BTW, nobody has come up with any reason why Russia would want to obligate itself to fund the Western Ukraine basket case. The U.S. wants Ukraine so that it can garrison the country and point NATO missiles at Russia from Ukrainian soil, making them the target in the case of war rather than France or Germany.

One must congratulate the rebel government of Ukraine for volunteering to become ground zero in any future nuclear war.

And of course the geniuses in charge of strategy in the U.S. have just provoked China and Russia to massively increase their defense spending.

As usual the only beneficiary for this sort of insanity and nation crippling chaos must be that nuclear armed suburb of New York City located on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urengoy%E2%80%93Pomary%E2%80%93Uzhgorod_pipeline

Today what is the goal ? Bring Putin down ? Push the pipes towards China ? (remember the fields are more or less half way). What are Europe interests ? To follow the Eagle and that's it ?

Some thoughts:
I have seen three Emergency Tests on TV this month. Seems high.
A colleague whose brother is in the armed forces sai very recently they were tested. The CO came in and told them they were going to war with N Korea. They were offered an option to opt "out". 1/2 of all present took this option. So half wouldn't fight given an option. I've seen other signs as well.

I would say this has been in the works; preparation for war. I would take the necessary precautions if I were you. Should this go hot, I can see the war being brought here unlike the past two big ones. Stay frosty.

Huh?  Half told the CO they would not fight and would opt out?   Is this like a loyalty test?

Coming here to the USA inside borders?  Absolutely, I think it may happen this time.  it is about time.  I get so sick of the mentality of many conservatives and many other Americans where the first option is that we should go bomb people.   Easy solution to everything.   Bomb em.  Well someday, maybe soon, someone will be bombing us.

They get all huffy and think I am a Ron Paul type.  Guilty as charged.  Ron Paul sounds like the Framers of The Constitution.

If you look at those railroad tracks, it looks like they are all ribbon rail with concrete ties.  Extremely modern railroad engineering practices, to be sure.

Looks like Russia has been manufacturing some military equipment.

The escalation is too canny, it went from protests to riots to a slaughter of protesters to ousting a gov to military action.  Something smells fishy.

@ Re: comment on 1st page regarding Potsdam, Germany

Ps.  Potsdam Conference for Truman was only to get the Russian's on America's side, declaring war on Japan. Truman wanted Stalin to sign-on. Stalin accepted... saying explicitly that Manchuria belonged to China. Truman was elated... but, the truth is that the S-1 (A-bomb's secret code name) was tested and ready to go just as Potsdam was being convened. The A-bomb was meant for Germany, but Germany had already surrendered unconventionally. Truman was devastated by the loss of U.S. servicemen in the Pacific Fleet under Gen Douglas MacArthur. Iwo Jima (Archipelago's) was a nightmare with 100k US force casualties... besides unimaginable losses to naval fleet! Truman was told that the Japanese would fight to the end and never sign an unconditional surrender. The war was projected to go on for six-months to a year... with an estimated 250k-700k US casualties. Those casualties were loss of life! Truman told Stalin of the A-Bomb, but remarkably it didn't surprise Stalin, for he had Russian spies inside the state department. Truman also didn't want the American's doing all the dirty work and later having Russia coming in and cleaning up the spoils if they had failed to declare war on Japan? Needless to say, Truman ordered the dropping of the two A-Bombs. Note: In the beginning of WWII, the American's actually wanted to fund the USSR, 100% to fight Germany for them in what is today called a proxy war!

For the people who think nuclear armageddon is looming --

The bankers control Obama and Kerry.

Theyre not going to initiate a nuclear war where they themselves would get blown away.

They want to make MONEY, not die.

And to this end, they'll finance both sides of any conflict, same as always.

But the war will stay in Ukraine, and not come back to the USA, or to Russia.

Anyway, just thought I would take a moment to share these thoughts with you guys to calm some nerves...now back to stocking up on supplies and digging a bunker.

Russia's drone program was a huge scandal, as billions were wasted on a private developer who delivered non functioning crap. Thus Russia was forced to begin again to develop modern drones. By bring this one in for a landing, they jumped a decade ahead and are reverse engineering like bloody mad this very minute. Most people don't know that the old USSR was famous for buying technology of all types using third party buyers and then bring the stuff to Russia where huge reverse engineering departments tried to copy. The World War II  USAF B-29 was fully reverse engineered by their aviation industry and the Red Airforce fielded a goodly number of perfect copies. This is a long tradition, now also followed by the Chinese.

Aircraft Carrier Extends Operations in Mediterranean Sea

By Army Sgt. 1st Class Tyrone C. Marshall Jr.
American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, March 14, 2014 – The aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush will remain in the Mediterranean Sea a few days longer than originally scheduled, a Defense Department spokesman said here today.

A liberty boat departs the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush to take sailors to Antalya, Turkey, March 9, 2014. The carrier is on a scheduled deployment supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility. U.S. Navy photo by Petty Officer 1st Class Eric S. Garst

(Click photo for screen-resolution image);high-resolution image available.

Army Col. Steve Warren told Pentagon reporters the extension allows for additional training and enhances maritime capabilities in the region.

“This is a few more days over what the original plan was,” he said. “There’s two reasons: one is to conduct these additional training opportunities, and frankly, because a lot of what we’re doing there now is an effort to reassure our allies.”

The carrier left Norfolk, Va., to support maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations.

On the situation in Ukraine, Warren said the department continues to monitor situation “very closely” and continues to call on Russia to de-escalate the situation.

“Russian intervention in Ukraine, we’ve said all along, is a violation of international law and international agreements to which Russia is a signatory,” he said.

...one step closer.

it seems possible, perhaps even probable, that the US/Israel will take the opportunity to ramp up the destruction of Syria while Ivan is focused on Crimea and Eastern Ukraine. And maybe some sort of 'trade off' will be on offer.

Speaking of Syria, I presume the nominated new ambassador will sail through confirmation.  And who do we send to Syria?

Why a Hebrew speaking Jew, of course.  The current head of State's intelligence dept, and probable Israel Firster.

Of course.

After all, we sent arch zios Indyk and Ross to represent we, the American people, for the sham Israel/Palestine peace talks, so why not have Jewish ambassadors to Syria, and well, just look who we had in Egypt...

I don't understand what has become of the stories about the honest to goodness ultra nationalists and fascists who were essentially given the shaft by the coup government installed by the US.  Our Jewish ambassador, talking on the phone to our Jewish undersec of state, coordinating with a Jewish UN undersec [Feltman] and installing "Yats" who, it is now clear, is mostly of Jewish background - all in a country that is 0.7% Jewish but where much or most of the media is owned by the mostly Jewish 'oligarchs'.

While I think this is bizarre, I don't think it has much to do with the average/ordinary Jewish Ukrainian who will be precisely the people to suffer and be scapegoated once the idiot fascists realize just how fucked they've been by the Global Banking Empire.  I mean, it's not as they aren't acutely aware of the the Jewish role in the Bolshevik conquest and starvation of Ukraine.  It's largely whitewashed of course, but some truths are too hard to bury...

Nobody should ever have to pay for someone else's sins, but that is inevitably what happens when a tiny ethnoreligious community so dominates and abuses a people for so long.

Seems to me that a lead-up to the first major armed conflict of the nuclear age, and the first mysterious total vanishing of a jetliner, at the same time, is no coincidence.

I wonder if there could possibly be anything to this Sorcha Faal story: http://www.whatdoesitmean.com/index1753.htm

According to which, MH370 carried a mysterious item of cargo, originating from a US-flagged freighter and guarded by a couple of ex-Seals, who then suddenly died.

Did the US try to fly a nuke to Beijing? Having Bejing go boom "because Terrorists" would have put a whole different spin on the Ukraine situation.

MH370 is probably now in a hangar on Diego Garcia, getting a respray job and presumably still with the same cargo onboard. Which makes me wonder if that plane might still put a different spin on things.
