Ukraine Says It Has Repelled A Russian Army "Invasion"

Tyler Durden's picture

With a day left until the critical, if widely expected, results from the Crimean referendum are revealed, it is worth recalling the main footnote in last night's State Department travel alert for Russia: "all U.S. citizens located in or considering travel to the border region, specifically the regions bordering Ukraine in Bryansk, Kursk, Belgorod, Voronezh, and Rostov Oblasts and Krasnodar Krai, should be aware of the potential for escalation of tensions, military clashes (either accidental or intentional)." See, for the purpose of a military provocation, "accidental" will do. It is therefore not surprising to see that moments ago all major news wires blasted the following headline, quoting the Ukraine ministry of defense:

  • UKRAINIAN MILITARY REPELS ATTEMPT BY RUSSIAN FORCES TO ENTER REGION ADJACENT TO CRIMEA-UKRAINE'S DEFENCE MINISTRY

The incursion allegedly took place in the Ukraine region of Kherson, neighboring the Crimea.

Below is a video allegedly showing the Russian military helicopters involved in the incursion:

Here is the full google translated statement from the Ministry website:

Another provocation on the part of members of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation has failed.

Today, 15 March 2014, forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine halted the penetration of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on the territory of Kherson Oblast from the "Arabatka." Response was made immediately.

AFP summarizes the incident as as follows:

Ukraine accused Russia on Saturday of invading a region bordering Crimea and vowed to use "all necessary measures" to ward off an attack that came on the eve of the peninsula's breakaway vote.

The dramatic escalation of the most serious East-West crisis since the Cold War set a tense stage for the referendum on Crimea's secession from Ukraine in favour of Kremlin rule -- a vote denounced by both the international community and Kiev.

The predominantly Russian-speaking Black Sea region of two million people was overrun by Kremlin-backed troops days after the February 22 fall in Kiev of a Moscow-backed regime and the rise of nationalist leaders who favour closer ties with the West.

President Vladimir Putin defended Moscow's decision to flex its military muscle by arguing that ethnic Russians in Ukraine needed "protection" from violent ultranationalists who had been given free reign by the new Kiev administration.

But Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had told Secretary of State John Kerry in London on Friday that Moscow "has no, and cannot have, any plans to invade the southeast region of Ukraine."

The invasion reported by the Ukrainian foreign ministry was small in scale and concerned a region that lies just off the northeast coast of Crimea called the Arabat Spit.

The Ukrainian ministry said 80 Russian military personnel had seized a village on the spit called Strilkove with the support of four military helicopters and three armoured personnel carriers.

The Ukrainian "foreign ministry declares the military invasion by Russia and demands the Russian side immediately withdraw its military forces from the territory of Ukraine," it said in a statement, "Ukraine reserves the right to use all necessary measures to stop the military invasion by Russia."

There was no immediate response to Ukraine's announcement from Moscow but Washington's UN representative Samantha Power called any new Russian troop movement in south Ukraine an "outrageous escalation".

So the official line is that the Ukraine repelled a Russian "military force" in a region inside east Ukraine and out of Crimea the day after Russia's foreign minister Lavrov said Russia has no plans to Invade Ukraine? Call us cynical, but something tells us if Russians wanted to "penetrate" east Ukraine, the would have done so without "being repelled."

Additionally, here is Reuters' take:

Ukraine's military scrambled aircraft and paratroops on Saturday to repel an attempt by Russian forces to enter a long spit of land belonging to a region adjacent to Crimea, Ukraine's defence ministry said.

"Units of Ukraine's armed forces today...repelled an attempt by servicemen of the armed forces of the Russian Federation to enter the territory of Kherson region on Arbatskaya Strelka," a ministry statement said. "This was repelled immediately."

It said the Ukrainian military used aircraft, ground forces and its aeromobile battalion in the operation. The territory in question is a long spit of land running parallel to the east of Ukraine's Crimea peninsula, now controlled by Russian forces.

But just so Russia isn't accused of being inert, moments ago it too re-escalate the war of words and provocations, either accidental or intentional, and stated that:

  • RUSSIA'S FOREIGN MINISTRY SAYS REQUESTS FOR DEFENCE OF PEACEFUL CITIZENS IN UKRAINE WILL BE CONSIDERED

Specifically, the Russian Foreign Ministry says in website statement that it will examine Ukrainians’ requests. Armed radicals are heading to eastern Ukrainian cities of Donetsk, Lugansk. Radicals provoked 2 deaths at pro-Russian rally in Kharkiv. The full statement is below:

On March 14 in Kharkov Ukraininan elements including the "Right Sector" arranged provocation against peaceful demonstrators who came to express their attitude to the so-called new government. As a result, the militants opened fire, killing two people, some were injured.

Of disturbing information that from Kharkov Donetsk and Lugansk left column with armed mercenaries "right sector" , whose leaders have announced the opening of the "Eastern Front" , and on one of the garment factories in Russia urgently sew uniforms.

At the risk of making the Verkhovna Rada of legitimizing the "right sector " and other radicals by converting them into system power structures like the National Guard

paid attention Secretary of State John Kerry Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during their meeting in London on 14 March . of While Lavrov urged John Kerry to use Washington's influence on Kiev to curb rampant ultra- nationalists.

Russia To receive many calls asking to protect civilians. These applications will be considered.

Meanwhile in Crimea, the Russian flag is already flying above the Crimean Supreme Council:

And finally, just in case things weren't exciting enough, the US appears to finally be flexing its muscles too.

  • U.S. WARSHIP TRUXTUN TO CARRY OUT FURTHER EXERCISES WITH ALLIES IN BLACK SEA-COMMANDER

From Reuters:

The USS Truxtun, a U.S. guided-missile destroyer, will carry out more exercises with allied ships in the Black Sea, its commander said on Saturday, in a further sign of the international response to Russia's actions in Ukraine. Commander Andrew Biehn was briefing reporters aboard the 300-crew destroyer as it lay docked in a Bulgarian port.

The USS Truxtun last week took part in drills with Romanian and Bulgarian ships a few hundred miles from Russian forces that entered Ukraine's Russian-majority of Crimea after mass protests toppled the country's pro-Moscow president.

If all this has happened while it is still light in Ukraine and before the Crimean referendum, we can't wait until darkness falls on Sunday night.

USS Truxtun is an AB DDG, SM2 adn ESSM capable, no indication it's one of the DDGs fitted for SM3, but it does carry Tomahawk, VL-ASROC and Harpoon, but curiously is one of the 5 US DDGs that carries 2 x ASW helcopters (which is a polite way of saying it will carry a rotor-wing recon and targeting drone also).

Very good point, it looks almost the same as an SM2, and you'd never know it, the VLS cells are sealed units. given the operational environment it would be surprising if it didn't have them, so we should probably assume it does.

Interesting,..I actually I thought it was there for the TRLS role primarily, but with a little TMAL tossed in to break the monotony. Of course with two ASS W's, it could well be a SPRED tactic, leading to an ORQ ward situation....

But what would I know, I'm just a FOBG on the PLM.

I tend to agree though TMAL is getting a bit long in the tooth and should be supplemented at the very least via TK4, in conjuncton with AN-13x, though that sort of kit is a bit pricey (but hey, the tax payer's payin, so what the heck).

If I were a "Jew" Zionist or otherwise, I would consider these guys not only treasonous for their betrayal to the "Holocaust" given their financial and "other means" of lethal support to the Neo-Nazi cause in disrupting a legitimately elected leader and Government 3 years ago in that Country, but I would be going to great lengths in stopping it before Tel Aviv and Haifa vanish!

Don't take my word for it. Ask this guy what he thought about a military strike on this Country 3 years ago?  This ain't that Country we are talking about now -Is it?

George W. Bush Iraq Freedom RUSSIAN version.

Original speech transcript with underline Russian ver.

Original - 19 March 2003, Oval Office of the White House, Washington, D.C.

RUSSIA’S STATE DEPARTMENT ANNOUCEMENT:

My fellow citizens, at this hour, RUSSIAN and coalition forces (Belorussia & Company – The Slavic coalition of the willing) are in the early stages of military operations to disarm Ukraine, to free its people, and to defend the world from grave danger (The NAZISTS that took over their Government).

On my orders, coalition forces have begun striking selected targets of military importance to undermine the illegible and unelected current illegal Ukrainian government’s ability to wage war. These are opening stages of what will be a broad and concerted campaign. More than 5 countries are giving crucial support -- from the use of naval and air bases, to help with intelligence and logistics, to the deployment of combat units. Every nation in this coalition has chosen to bear the duty and share the honor of serving in our common defense.

To all the men and women of Russia arm Forces now in the Crimea, the peace of a troubled world and the hopes of an oppressed people now depend on you. That trust is well placed.

The enemies you confront will come to know your skill and bravery. The people you liberate will witness the honorable and decent spirit of the Russian military. In this conflict, Russia faces an enemy who has no regard for conventions of war or rules of morality. The unelected and illegal current Ukrainian government has placed its troops and equipment in civilian areas, attempting to use innocent men, women and children as shields for his own military -- a final atrocity against his people.

I want Russians and all the world to know that coalition forces will make every effort to spare innocent civilians from harm. A campaign on the harsh terrain of a nation as large as California could be longer and more difficult than some predict. And helping Ukrainians achieve a united, stable, and free country will require our sustained commitment.

We come to Ukraine with respect for its citizens, for their great civilization, and for the religious faiths they practice. We have no ambition in Ukraine or Crimea, except to remove a threat and restore control of that country to its own people.

I know that the families of our military are praying that all those who serve will return safely and soon. Millions of Russians are praying with you for the safety of your loved ones and for the protection of the innocent. For your sacrifice, you have the gratitude and respect of the Russian people. And you can know that our forces will be coming home as soon as their work is done.

Our nation enters this conflict reluctantly -- yet, our purpose is sure. The people of Russia and our friends and allies will not live at the mercy of an outlaw regime that threatens the peace with weapons of mass murder. We will meet that threat now, with our Army, Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard and Marines, so that we do not have to meet it later with armies of fire fighters and police and doctors on the streets of our cities.

Now that conflict has come, the only way to limit its duration is to apply decisive force. And I assure you, this will not be a campaign of half measures, and we will accept no outcome but victory.

My fellow citizens, the dangers to our country and the world will be overcome. We will pass through this time of peril and carry on the work of peace. We will defend our freedom. We will bring freedom to others and we will prevail.

May God bless our country and all who defend her.

Ok, so from now on you would ask the inhabitants of an region or state whether they want to join another nation or form an own country and govern themselves? Is this what democracy is about? The people of Crimea aren't/weren't suppressed or harrassed by anyone. To live in the Ukraine was their choice. What's going on over there is just a play of chess with Putin being the only player. He wants a part of the Soviet Empire back, that's all. And he doesn't care about the law. The West has had enough wars in the last 60 years and it lacks the money to get involved seriously, too. Putin is well aware of this.

So we are just sending air support and naval support for the fun of it? Let's see what the vote says...if they get to vote. This whole thing was initiated by Nuland and her imposing of Nazi thugs. That is well documented. Should this have stayed as it was around October, we would not be on the brink of a major conflagration. I get what you are saying, but the ball started rolling with the Svoboda and Right Sektor thugs commandeering thr protest and turning it into a full blown revolution. And here we are. The region is destabilized and the drums of war keep getting louder....all because of Russian energy and the petro-dollar hegemony. This is coming to a head. i agree with you to a point, but how we got here cannot be overlooked.

Democracy - is where the interests of the minority population, coincide with interests of Washington. We saw it in Kosovo.
But if the interests of the majority of the population do not coincide with interests Washington, it's not a democracy. This extremism, separatism and terrorism. We see it now in the Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk and Kharkiv.

I do not understand what the problem is.
- In Crimea and Donetsk live Russian people.
- They do not want to live in the EU.
- They do not want to live in the United States.
- They do not want to join NATO.
- They do not want to join in any other shit.
- They do not want "Western democracy".
- They do not want "Western values."
- They just want to be together with Russia.
What's the problem?

Donetsk right now - thousands of people with flags of Russia took to the streets against the illegitimate fascist power in Kiev. They require the protection of Russia. They chant, Crimea, Donetsk, Russia!

Correspondence of US Army Attache Assistant in Kiev

We have hacked e-mail correspondence of US Army Attache Assistant in Kiev Jason Gresh and a high ranking official from Ukrainian General Staff Igor Protsyk.

It appears that they are planning to conduct a series of attacks on Ukrainian military bases in order to destabilize the situation in Ukraine.

Particularly, Jason Gresh writes to Igor Protsyk that it’s time to implement a plan that implies “causing problems to the transport hubs in the south-east of Ukraine in order to frame-up the neighbor. It will create favorable conditions for Pentagon to act”, says Jason Gresh.
.
"...Ihor,

Events are moving rapidly in Crimea. Our friends in Washington expect more decisive actions from your network.
I think it's time to implement the plan we discussed lately. Your job is to cause some problems to the transport hubs in the south-east in order to frame-up the neighbor.
It will create favorable conditions for Pentagon and the Company to act.

Ukrainian oligarch Firtash arrested in Vienna: sources
VIENNA Thu Mar 13, 2014 8:41am EDT

"(Reuters) - The Ukrainian businessman arrested in Vienna this week at the request of U.S. authorities is Dmytro Firtash, Austrian government sources said on Thursday.

Firtash, 48, is one of Ukraine's richest men, an oligarch whose close links to Russia and involvement in the gas, chemicals, media and banking sectors gave him substantial influence, notably during the administration of recently ousted, Moscow-backed President Viktor Yanukovich.

The Federal Criminal Office, had identified the man taken into custody only as Dmitry F. and said he had been under investigation by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation since 2006."

Sounds like Bluster until new Kiev government can obtain legitimacy in May 25 elections. In meantime tomorrow's referendum in Crimea will dictate events and outcome in Eastern Ukraine. Sad truth is that Ukraine divided is not economically viable with bond default a real possibility if immediate financial aide is not forthcoming. Austrian banks who hold largest share of Ukrainian bonds and have traditionally finananced East-West trade will be hit hard. Obviously those in Eastern Ukraine will align themselves with their jobs and stronger purchase value currency which seems to favor Russia. Expect initial chaos within Europe with contagion impacting entire financial system. For What ? Global Empire Dominance amongst US, Russia, China and of course the almighty US $ which will now be put to the test as the bastion of debt capitalism. Sounds like an awful price to pay just to deny Russia a warm water port or influence in Ukraine, Syria and Iran. In this sense the stakes are enormous, but not worth global disruption at this time. Perhaps America is losing confidence that time is on our side and that democracy and a global trading system of our creation will prevail over time.

Putin wants revenge for the dissolution of the Soviet Union.  He also fully understands that this world-wide ponzi has about played out.  If he wants to stay in power, he needs to change the environment around him radically.

Putin is not afraid of triggering a worldwide financial crash.  He wants to ride the wave, not be rolled by it.

I had an ominous feeling years back when he gained power.

Obummer may be the undertaker, but Putin is a present day Shiva in that he will spark what we have all feared and anticipated since the fall of 2008.

interestingly enough a few days ago there were reports of "leaked emails" apparently hacked by anonymous. the message suggested a cooperative false flag provocation operation was to be carried out in order to lock in US military intervention.

could be total BS but then again it's not as if Washington hasn't planned and/ or carried out these types of ops before, many, many times.

violent attacks on civilians and further military provocations that would be carried out in such a way that they could be blamed on Russia. there was no mention of any specific large scale false flag such as an attack on a US warship but certainly the opportunity exists given that the USS Truxtun is now separated from it's battle group making it vulnerable, and interestingly enough the rest of the battle group is now going to remain in the med.

according to the DOD website the George HW Bush and it's escorts are staying on station for at least a few days beyond the original end of deployment, this extended stay is a direct result of the increasing tensions in the Ukraine.

the war drums are beating louder now and the neo con establishment is playing there part, calling for the US to surround Russian forces with every high tech toy available from F-22's to AGIES warships, all while stunningly claiming such actions would not increase tensions in the Ukraine...

this of course defies common sense and especially dangerous for 2 reasons.

1 Russia has dramatically closed the military technology gap with the west over the last decade, in fact many defense publications rate their surface to surface and surface to air missile systems as among the most advanced in the world today. as evidenced by Moscow's actions in Syria and now Crimea they are no longer intimidated by the western military superiority.

2. even in the event of being technologically or numerically outmatched Russian military doctrine enshrines a limited, tactical nuclear first strike policy against military and production facilities of an adversary. even if Russia has limited conventional global strike capability, they can reach anywhere in the world and on very short notice with their nuclear arsenal. they euphemistically call this doctrine "deescalation"

whether or not the hacked emails are legit there does seem to be a very real sense of scripted and intentional provocations and escalations going on in consort with a massive media propaganda campaign. they are even running out the Hitler comparisons as well as calling Ukrainian territorial integrity and sovereignty "indispensable" to NATO and US security in the Atlantic. it seems as if  the PTB's in DC are literally going step by step from the "how to start WW3 manual". of course we don't even need to go into the utter hypocrisy of Kerry and Obama attempting to lecture Putin on staying out of another countries affairs.

it's a blight upon all Americans every time anybody in DC opens their mouths on the subject.

Both of them.

Skin Color does not have a damned thing to do with this. Open your eyes.

We have been dying for the Queen of England and have not have had independence from the British Throne throughout most of the Twentieth Century and far into the Twenty First Century. England and America are tied at the hip and share the most common interests. Along with the Vatican they rule over the World.

London (the Crown) is the Financial Center, the Vatican is the Satanic Spiritual Center, and the District of Columbia is the Military Center of this unholy alliance.

This goes far deeper than most can even imagine. Armaggedon is being set up. The antichrist will rule from the Temple Mount. Solomon's Temple does not need be rebuilt. There is already a Temple on that Mount. The unification of Catholicism and Islam will serve the Dark Powers well and the antichrist will rule over the World.

(That is how Roman Catholicism converted the World's masses. It was accomplished by assimilation of the rituals of other Religions into their own. It is as Polytheistic as Judaism.)

The masses will be screaming for Peace and the Churches and Mosques will act to realize a One World Government with a common currency...to save the World of course. The CURRENCY of a Nation is that which is common to all of the citizens. It is reflective of the Morals or Moral Decadence. It is the basis of the comunication of trade.

But there is something much more devious, malevolent and sinister in their plans...

I think that you have read of this or have heard of this before.

My twist is that the Temple needs not be rebuilt as there is already a preexisting Temple. When the Roman Catholics make the declaration then the Jews will make war. Thus the prophecy that all Nations will war against Israel will be realized.

Regardless if you are an atheist there are hordes of people whom are not. They will follow the edicts of their Cardinals, Bishops, Priests and their Imams. They will act to ensure the self fulfilling prophecy whether or not you like it. You can deny that it will happen, if you want, but that will be to your own personal disadvantage. (Even Islam also has a prophecy of a Saving Messiah.) And this is all being orchestrated like clockwork.

The people at the Bohemian Grove make their sacrifices to Baphomet. Then the satan rewards them, as he had previously promised to Jesus, but Jesus rejected, all of the Kingdoms of the World and the riches thereof.

Crazy or not all of the prophcies shall be fulfilled.

Couple of If/Then scenarios.

If we were to fight it out and America was victorious, then we would have to invade and conquer Russia to get the oil/gas desperately needed by western Europe to keep them from falling apart and bringing about an economic catastrophe.

If we don't fight, then Obozo the clown just demonstrated to the world that we are not all that any more.  The dollar dynasty takes a big hit.

If we pull the dreaded sanctions route, then the Chinese and Russians take the gloves off and the currency war goes into high gear.  Who thinks we can just isolate ourselves at this point and go on our merry  way?

If we fight and lose, then you boys had better have your shelves stocked because its about to get real.

I can't come up with a win scenario for us in this situation.  Only if you expect Putin to tell Barack, "Yes, sir" and follow orders like the rest of the wimps in this world.

the real USA history:

british and french imperialism (mercantilism) creates conditions driven by psychology inherent of the dominator culture, which lead to fighting over cheap labor and resources.

the french stir up and finance a rebellion against the brits via a few powerful landowners who are also greedy and could care less about allegiance to their faraway monarch.

the french provide the victors with a male-dominated, not everyone is equal version of this blueprint for a new governance framework.

this makes some in "the new republic" unhappy. you get a few challenges of the new status quo.  enter the bill of rights.

mix imperialist (anti)christian mythos with greed and sense of superiority over others and you get hundreds of thousands dead brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, children, etc. along with the combined genocide and forced migrations of more idigenous peoples across the north american continent.  (and now you have an american historical precedent to justify the evolution of nazism and world war ii)

with the industrial revolution fluorishing post-civil war,  enter a few men with big ideas of how to advance civilization forward. mass consumerism of scientific breakthroughs in technology beget more and more progress, releasing a lot of C02 into the atmosphere at a very epic rate of increase.

basically that's it.

what's next is...

up to you to decide.

But there is only one country among them that has a contingent of citizens imbued with the traditions of freedom and inalienable rights.  If there is a seed for a better future, it is here in the U.S.  We may be in the minority, but we are not insignificant.

And I would wager that the second thing on the agenda after "coming out on top" will be to exterminate us.

Had we left Hitler alone in World War II then we would not be having this problem today. WE could have let the USSR and Germeny have an all out total war, arming both sides of course during the conflict, and both would have ended up weakened and destroyed.

We baited Japan into an ill advised war by cutting off their supplies of Natural Resources. They were on the brink of starvation before they atacked Pearl Harbor, an attack which we had advanced knowledge about.

That was a MANUFACTURE OF CONSENT to enter into the War.

Thomas Dewey, Republican Nominee for the Presidential Election in 1944 against FDR, found out that we had sucessfully had broken, not just the Japanese Diplomatic Code, but had broken the Imperial Japanese Naval Code in 1941...before the attack. The Japanese Navy was still using the SAME CODE, even after Midway, because they had erroneously and arrogantly believed that the code was unbreakable.

Thus Thomas Dewey did not use that against FDR as it would have placed US Naval Forces and Troops needlessly in Harm's way. It is needless to write that he lost the election and the following election against Truman in 1948. That is common knowlege.

(This fact was first exposed in Herbert Hoover's Presidential Memoirs in the 1950s.)

Yes. Leaving Hitler alone would have led to wonderful consequences. Leaving Japan and China to battle it out and weakening both of those Nations would have also lead to wonderful consequences.

We'd have ruled the World economically without firing a shot.

From: http://www.ihr.org/jhr/v03/v03p319_Greaves.html

Toland does provide a large number of instances in which efforts were made to twist or suppress the truth. He adds much to the story of Marshall's successful attempt to keep Thomas Dewey from mentioning in the 1944 Presidential campaign the pre-Pearl Harbor reading of Japanese codes.

We should no longer be surprised at the great lengths other "responsible" persons went to suppress the truth. After all, the record shows that [General George C.] Marshall ordered one of his aides to commit perjury before the Army Pearl Harbor Board. If one, were there not others? - Congressional Hearings Volume 35401

I don't hear any outrage by the US State Dept regarding a proposed law in Iraq to rape nine year old Shiite girls. Why? Because Ukraine is new business. When you become old business, you're forgotten. Once the US gets what it wants from Ukraine, the Ukranian people are going to suffer under Nazi rule. And when they cry to the US for help, the new Secretary of State will not have the time. Today you're important, tomorrow you're old business.

"By way of deception you shall make war" is the translation of the Mossad motto. To simplify: lie. And in the Ukraine crisis, the lies are coming fast and they have been arriving for decades. That should help answer Chris Ernesto’s leading question in his article below.

Brzezinski Mapped Out the Battle for Ukraine in 1997 | Antiwar.com

By Chris Ernesto March 14, 2014

Why would the United States run the risk of siding with anti-Semitic, neo-Nazis in Ukraine?

One of the keys may be found by looking back at Zbigniew Brzezinski’s 1997 book, The Grand Chessboard in which he wrote, “Ukraine, a new and important space on the Eurasian chessboard, is a geopolitical pivot because its very existence as an independent country helps to transform Russia. Without Ukraine, Russia ceases to be a Eurasian empire.”

“However, if Moscow regains control over Ukraine, with its 52 million people and major resources as well as access to the Black Sea, Russia automatically again regains the wherewithal to become a powerful imperial state, spanning Europe and Asia.”

The former national security advisor to Jimmy Carter from 1977 to 1981 and top foreign policy advisor to Barack Obama, Brzezinski wrote that US policy should be “unapologetic” in perpetuating “America’s own dominant position for at least a generation and preferably longer still.”

Brzezinski delved into the importance of little known Ukraine by explaining in his 1997 book, “Geopolitical pivots are the states whose importance is derived not from their power and motivation but rather from their sensitive location… which in some cases gives them a special role in either defining access to important areas or in denying resources to a significant player.”

“Ukraine, Azerbaijan, South Korea, Turkey and Iran play the role of critically important geopolitical pivots,” he wrote in The Grand Chessboard, a book viewed by many as a blueprint for US world domination.

Brzezinski wrote that Eurasia is “the chessboard on which the struggle for global primacy continues to be played,” and that “it is imperative that no Eurasian challenger emerges, capable of dominating Eurasia and thus also of challenging America.”

Understanding Brzezinski’s long-term view of Ukraine makes it easier to comprehend why the US has given $5 billion to Ukraine since 1991, and why today it is hyper-concerned about having Ukraine remain in its sphere of influence.

It may also help explain why in the past year the US and many of its media outlets have feverishly demonized Vladimir Putin.

By prominently highlighting the mistreatment of activist group Pussy Riot, incessantly condemning Russia’s regressive position on gay rights, and excessively focusing on substandard accommodations at the Sochi Olympic Games, the Obama administration has cleverly distracted the public from delving into US support of the ultra-nationalist, neo-Nazi factions of the Ukrainian opposition, and has made it palatable for Americans to accept the US narrative on Ukraine.

Interestingly enough, it was Brzezinski who first compared Putin to Hitler in a March 3 Washington Post Editorial. Hillary Clinton followed-up the next day with her comments comparing the two, followed by John McCain and Marco Rubio who on March 5 agreed with Clinton’s comments comparing Putin and Hitler. Apparently Brzezinski still continues to influence US political speak…

In today’s Ukraine, the US runs the risk of being affiliated with anti-Semitic neo-Nazis, a prospect it probably feels can be controlled via a friendly western media. But even if the risk is high, the US likely views it as necessary given the geopolitical importance of Ukraine, as Brzezinski mapped out in 1997.

Ah, another Sayanim agent paid to spread Mossad’s lies?

RT: How would you evaluate the way the English language media covers the situation in Ukraine? Are they being helpful at all? Are they provoking the situation? Your comments would be interesting.

Ron Paul: I think they are totally biased. It is an example of what happens… you know, our media is supposed to be privately owned and theoretically it is, but why is it so uniform. We are supposed to have Republican stations and Democrat stations, or pretend. And yet, when it comes to getting an op on a country, they are very uniform. When it came to being uniform on going into war against Iraq, which I considered totally unconstitutional, illegal and immoral, and based on lies, all the media supported it. In the same way right now, everybody is supporting western Ukraine and I think it is very-very biased.

Reprinted from The Voice of Russia.

American media is spam; and it is so far under the wing of the banker cartel that it hardly can even bare the light of day. In this almost total blanket of lies, can you not withstand even one kernel of truth?

P.S. This post was in response to your original  comment, "JR, the spam bitch," which you have removed. After reading your other posts, with which I agree, did I misunderstand your point?

As the sun slowly falls below our horizon I sometimes find myself reflecting on the paths we've taken the choices we've made and the voices to early silenced ...... from the words of MLK (1967)....

http://mlk-kpp01.stanford.edu/index.php/encyclopedia/documentsentry/doc_...

"This is the message of the great Buddhist leaders of Vietnam. Recently one of them wrote these words, and I quote:

Each day the war goes on the hatred increased in the hearts of the Vietnamese and in the hearts of those of humanitarian instinct. The Americans are forcing even their friends into becoming their enemies. It is curious that the Americans, who calculate so carefully on the possibilities of military victory, do not realize that in the process they are incurring deep psychological and political defeat. The image of America will never again be the image of revolution, freedom, and democracy, but the image of violence and militarism. "

...Obomba, Kerry, Clinton, Bush ........ how could we have been so silenced in our foolish pursuits and lost so much .......

How to halt the Ruskies from further expansion?

Two necessary choices:

1) Give the Ukrainians back several of their nukes.

2) Place Nato Trip-Wire forces into harms way along the Ukraine/Russian border...

These are not mutually exclusive...

...but both actions are DANGEREROUS.  Inaction/passivity is dangerous too. Keep in mind that Putin is a logical gambler but wants to be remembered as a great man.

A stalemate for several years would hopefully, given the circumstances, be accompanied by a upsurge in defense spending by the NATO countries...and that WOULD be Keynesian stimulus and would grow economic growth all over.

I wish we could have had the stimulus be Green Energy but Vlad is calling this shot.

1. I don't think NATO wants to give the NAZI government nukes.

2. NATO has access to Satellite imagery. No boots on the ground are necessary.

3. I don't know how you can call global surveillance, by US Satellites, of the planet inactive or passive behavior?

4. If I was Putin, I'd be thinking about my retirement package (maybe he is?).

5. I don't think this is the kind of private sector spending Keynes was thinking about. War spending on cruise missiles doesn't add value, but spending on technology may trickle down into the consumer market (no guarantee though).

6. You got me on green spending. Have no idea what you're talking about. Maybe you mean spending more money on green technology. I'm in favor of spending money on technology, but how can you blame Vlad for fiascos like Solyndra, etc, etc...?

assuming it is all under control given "we" have
the doomsday technology spread out over the globe;
perhaps the west is playing their "allies", the
neo-nazis along with the "terrorist" radicals
extremist allies in a spy vs spy double cross
fashion, the end result being they all commit suicide
by boris or his agents as the drone and direct methods
are even worse public relations than this other strategy?

By the way, the Russians HAVE to take the eastern Ukraine, as the Crimea is "incomplete" without it.

The North Crimean Canal supplies fresh water from the Dnieper river to the peninsula. The Dnieper is in eastern Ukraine.

Going to be interesting.

"In a country where the 'tribe' was virtually destroyed and run behind an "Iron Curtain for over 50 years, it sure is curious how many 'tribe' members own everything in the Ukraine. Things that make you go Hmmmm."

The tribe, as you call it, or the Russian mob, as I call it, is the only cohesive force in the region with the will to use force to "own" everything in Ukraine. There isn't much competition in the region, so why not expand?
