Putin Responds To US, European Sanctions: Signs Order Recognizing Crimea As Sovereign State
So much for de-escalating. From the Kremlin:
Vladimir Putin signed a decree "On the recognition of the Republic of Crimea." Full text of the Decree:
1. Given the will of the people of the Crimea on the referendum held on March 16, 2014, to recognize the Republic of Crimea, in which the city of Sevastopol has a special status, as a sovereign and independent state.
2. This Decree shall enter into force on the date of its signing.
Surely this will precede Putin's own executive order recognizing Crimea as the latest member of the Russian Federation. And as for those "crippling" sanctions, via the FT, here is the locals reall think and why the Russian stock market is soaring as we reported earlier.

One also wonders: how long until Russia freezes all assets of McDonalds restaurants operating in Russia.

This is a pop offering from the Ukrainian club band "Dress Code." It's called A Vova Rulit, meaning "And Vova Rules" (Vova is the familiar diminutive declension of the name Vladimir). It seems they pretty much knew this was going to happen eventually.
Amusing animation. Enjoyed it very much. Thank you.
How many times do you say "checkmate" before you oficially win?..
;)
Re: How many times do you say "checkmate" before you oficially win?..
Allot, especially when you think you are playing chess when you're actually playing Diplomacy (the Game).
The other players are probably getting pretty annoyed at him yelling "checkmate" after every round too.
it all depends on the dimensional landscape,
2 space
3 space
hyperdimentional
?
btw, obi1 plays the single-plane linear spacial lego's. a superimposed hybrid checkers-game, he an horseface enjoy for its challenging complexity?
What’s happening here is the loss of the moral high ground shifting from the United States to Russia. And the Bolsheviks that ruled Russia in the Lenin and Stalin eras are the rulers of America.
Mary Borden, a friend of Churchill, said she heard Winston at the time of the Paris Peace Talks tell Lloyd George that “one might as well legalize sodomy as recognize the Bolsheviks.”
Churchill wasn’t perfect, but in 1919, opposed by Lloyd George and Woodrow Wilson, he wanted to use Allied armies to push back hard against the Bolshevik expansion.
Lloyd George, the key to establishment of the state of Israel, and Wilson, with the Federal Reserve Act, were harbingers of the spread of Bolshevism into the West.
And note to Winston: Legalization of sodomy has arrived as well.
War Criminal Churchill's talkings were all over the place...
If you can dispute this fact, do it. Otherwise, please explain the reason for your diversion here.
You'll get no argument from me on the many positions Churchill has taken. But this position, which would have stopped the development of Lenin's Bolshevik revolution leading to Joseph Stalin, is one of the key historical losses suffered by the West in history - and might I add, all of Eastern Europe.
Here are the facts:
Churchill told the Imperial War Cabinet on December 31, 1918, that if they ignored the need to intervene in Russia, "we should come away from the Peace Conference rejoicing in a victory which was no victory and a peace which was no peace; and in a few months we should find ourselves compelled to gather our armies again. . ."
When Wilson had only twenty minutes to leave before catching his boat back to America following the Peace Conference, Churchill was still arguing with him for a consensus on providing troops to fight Russis. Wilson left without helping with any decision and Lloyd George was opposed.
And, then, guess what happened? Communist expansion and World War II.
I did not dispute. Seems he may have said that..my point is he said a great many things..
Talking against bolshevik/communists is one thing...sitting at Yalta looks different
Churchill allied with Communist, not against.
His talkings ignited sparks of world war..
Better look who paid his bar tab..
war is a racket
btw...I agree full with your first paragraph.
Thanks for your response.
You might also be interested, if you haven’t read it, the Paris discussions between the big three concerning possible Allied military action against the Bolsheviks:
Lloyd George: “It’s seems to me that the military affairs of the Bolsheviks are well managed. But the observers who keep us informed say that pure Bolshevik doctrine is being increasingly abandoned, and that what is being established over there is a state that doesn’t differ noticeably from a bourgeois state.”
Clemenceau: “Are you sure of the fact?”
Wilson: “It is perhaps too early to believe it, but that is bound to happen.” (IOW, we don’t need to worry about the Bolsheviks, we’re all going to be rich and bored middle class.)
It wasn’t enough to slaughter the young men by the millions, they had to give Lenin the green light to lock up and kill millions more, and with their “peace” conference to set the stage for WWII. Everything I read about David Lloyd George is incredible. I can’t stand to read about WWI.
:-))
I think Alaska just said "screw Obamacare" and put in a petition to join the Russian Federation.
The Russians have had their own ObamaCare for a few decades now. Where are they going to go when they discover that?
And how did that work out for Russians under ObamaCare, I mean SovietCare, and what Americans predictably can look forward to in coming years under ObamaCare socialized medicine?
Wikipedia:
Pre-reform health care
Pre-1990s Soviet Russia had a totally socialist model of health care with a centralised, integrated, hierarchically organised with the government providing free health care to all citizens. All health personnel were state employees... A 1989 survey found that 20% of Russian hospitals did not have piped hot water and 3% did not even have piped cold water. 17% lacked adequate sanitation facilities. Every seventh hospital and polyclinic needed basic reconstruction. Five years after the reforms described below per capita spending on health care was still a meagre US$158 per year (about 8 times less than the average European social models in Spain, the UK and Finland, and 26 times that of the U.S. which spent US$4,187 at that time)....
Reform in 2011
Starting 2000, there was significant growth in spending for public healthcare and in 2006 it exceed the pre-1991 level in real terms. Also life expectancy increased from 1991-93 levels, infant mortality rate dropped from 18.1 in 1995 to 8.4 in 2008. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin announced a large-scale health-care reform in 2011 and pledged to allocate more than 300 billion rubles ($10 billion) in the next few years to improve health care in the country. He also said that obligatory medical insurance tax paid by companies for compulsory medical insurance will increase from current 3.1% to 5.1% starting from 2011.”*

*Putin is making Russian companies pay for for employee medical insurance as a reform and Obama is letting American companies off the hook by allowing them to reduce full-time employees to part-time, thereby shifting medical insurance costs solely to the insured.
Re: and pledged to allocate more than 300 billion rubles ($10 billion) in the next few years to improve health care in the country.
Goddamn liberal.
Barry should pre-date an executive order on behalf of Ukraine gifting the Crimea back to Russia, declare victory over the rooskies, then he and Secretary of State Heinz can go back to fighting for marriage rights for chimpanzees everywhere or wherever the whole global sodomy movement left off.....
Goverment, whether it be Russia or US or anyone else, is the source of most problems that plague the world. This feud between Obama and Putin will only end with the private sector losing tons of money in investment, increase polarization within the world and discourage trade.
Oh, so we're just all the same? What is trade without freedom? What are tons of money in investment without freedom? “Whether it be Russia or US or anyone else” taking away our freedoms, it would be to everyone's advantage to find out exactly who it is and act upon it.
Putin has given asylum to Edward Snowden. Obama is seeking the capture of Snowden as a fugitive from US “justice.” Why? Because it was and is Snowden who has alerted the world to the despotism that has gripped America. It is Obama who is trading away our freedoms for his socialist dreams, his handlers' new communist deceptions, not Putin.
Obama reminds me at times of Woodrow Wilson with his moralizing. As Georges Clemenceau said of Woodrow Wilson, “I never knew anyone to talk more like Jesus Christ and act more like Lloyd George.”
Ukraine, as only a community organizer can do it.
I thought I had better pass this info on for better or worse. Mrs. M and I have a Ukrainian friend, Sergei who is pro-Russia. He is from the Crimean region and went to visit. We lost him for a while there as no one knew where he went or if he was alive. He rode with one day on some work calls because he wanted to see how the landscaping business really is. His daughter has just graduated college with a degree similar to mine. I told him that this is not a glamorous business. It's dirt and shovels and often machines that break and not always a women's work. That is not meant to be sexist by any means but rather the way it is. He understood and said, "But my daughter is female and does not listen." I could not argue. Sergei is a pretty easy going guy.
So Sergei goes back to Ukraine to visit his daughter. Sergei had asked me about cutting two trees down before he left. But then he left before I could see the site and the trees. Now Sergei is back. He managed to get himself into the fight and was beaten with a baseball-like bat at a Pro-Western check point. He's my age.(early 40's) Now his knee is all fucked up. Sergei went there to see his family is all he did. Sergei had a hell of a time getting back to the U.S. as well.
Maybe I will just go and do this tree felling for free. The ZeroHedge discount. Let's just do it and get it done. When we are done, I want to sit on one of the tree stumps and hear Sergei's Ukraine story because it is going to be a good one. I have the right tools to get the job done.
Putin shouldn't atagonize the Ukranians too much. They could easily fill the pipelines with methane/oxygen and blow the whole mess up. It would be five years before they could get them up and running again.
