The Real Inflation Fear - US Food Prices Are Up 19% In 2014

Tyler Durden's picture

We are sure the weather is to blame but what happens when pent-up demand (from a frosty east coast emerging from its hibernation) bumps up against a drought-stricken west coast unable to plant to meet that demand? The spot price (not futures speculation-driven) of US Foodstuffs is the best performing asset in 2014 - up a staggering 19%...

The solvents used to insert the new genes into the sequence of the DNA in the plant  and so as you eat the GMO so does it change your protien sequence in your DNA allowing for mutation. What is Gene 6 for in GMO's it just sits there waiting to be activated, serving no perpose.

Seer's picture

I think that it's all been set up as a distraction (like so many others) to keep people from seeing it as an issue of GMOs, and, well... neither side really wants it to be about GMOs.

Added benefit. Feminization of men. Never saw a guy with man boobs when I was a kid. Now it's tragic to see how fat men have become, especially in the last 5 years. This economy is primarily a destroyer of men and I'm seeing so many of them in the hospital now at young ages with diabetes and drug abuse.

GMOs and HFCS.  And sedentary lives (which is probably the greates contributor)...

KickIce's picture

But on the bright side I've heard claims that it takes our corpses longer to decompose because of all the preservatives we ingest.

I have one word for you, guys.  Are you listening?

I have a buddy that takes all that plastic crap we buy from China, grinds it up and sells it back to them on the empty boats returning to. The money is obscene.

stacking12321's picture

does he buy plastic?

we deal with a scrap metal company that does the same thing with metal going in containers over to china, but they won't take plastic.

if you can point me to some info for your friend, i should be able to provide some good volume.

Rubbish's picture

Yes, depending on the grade etc. Toss me an e-mail if you like and I can put one of their buyers in touch with you.

Wahooo's picture

Stop it you guys. You know there's no longer a market.

Rubbish's picture

Actually got a couple responses so don't know which you are but the info has been forwarded and I replied to responses with contact info. Must be a lot folks out there with plastic sitting around.

If for some reason you didn't get a reply let me know.

stacking12321's picture

yup, i got your email, thanks!

haven't heard from their buyer yet, but if i don't hear by tomorrow i'll drop them an email .

therover's picture

Agreed. They started years ago, so they are well trained.

How much you eat is not as important as what you eat. Right now the bad stuff is cheaper, and form over function is a high priority for some idiotic reason (i.e. lawns over gardens).

Eating quality (whole, live foods), results in eating less quantity.

LawsofPhysics's picture

"Eating quality (whole, live foods), results in eating less quantity." -  Bullshit.  It's still about calories.  Admittedly, you want to eat a balanced diet of healthly (often expensive) foods,  but your calorie input had better match your calorie output or you are dead.

FYI- it takes a tremendous amoutn of energy (calories) to simply grow food (on a large or small scale).

Shit, simply delivering clean water to 7+ billion people may be a problem shortly.

If we can't hang the bankers/paper-pushers, let's hope they taste good and have been eating healthy foods I guess...

Relentless101's picture

Ahhhh yes... Obamacares diet plan is rolling out nicely...

"Could leed to a much needed, yet involentary diet for obese Americans?"

They may miss those high calorie meals, but not as much as I miss Pladizow's old avitar.

"Just shaddup already and eat 19% less

Then your inflation is zero."

This message brought to you by Uncle Sam, the letters F and U, and the number 19.

stacking12321's picture

that's just bad math.

19% increase in price: 1.00 + .19 = 1.19

19% decrease in volume: 1.00 - .19 = .81

1.19 x .81 = .9639, or .0361 decrease, not zero at all.

Smegley Wanxalot's picture

See?  By paying more for food, Uncle Slam wants you to save money.

Whattaguy, whattaguy ....

Seen this price increase pretty easily in the produce section in big box stores, any package that was around five dollars has on the average increased in price to six dollars.
