So let's get the West's strategy when it comes to Ukraine. Support an overthrow of the government (granted past corrupt leader) and iritate VP. Then watch VP take a key area/port in Crimea in basically less than a month, with majority support of the people, and basically no shots fired (or death realized). Further, allow VP to position his troops/resources next to Ukraine simply waiting for the opportune time to take this area (probably with little resistance as eastern Ukraine is already pro-Russian). Just a matter of time before Ukraine falls.
To further their bungling, the people of Ukraine are about to get some severe sticker shock with basic necessities such as oil/gas. Better yet, the new government is now under pressure from the people to oust its leaders (article from ZH on ministers being forced to evacuate Kiev). Never fear, the IMF comes to the rescue with a $15 billion loan as it realizes Ukraine has no hard currency remaining is on the verge of collapse (but not approved by the new leaders yet as I'm sure the terms are worse than VP would offer/extend). Of course let's not forget China that extended a $3 billion loan for food/grain which now looks like they are going to get hosed. So to make sure China becomes an ally, VP simple shifts his customer focus East and now looks to Asia (from India to China) being his biggest customers.
Not enough damage done yet, well let's resort to name calling (wasn't there a reference to Hitler some where along the way as well as references to VP being weak, a bully, you name it) and using MSM to promote how "bad/evil" VP/Russia is. Throw in some worthless sanctions and you have a complete and total dissaster on your hands.
But only the bankrupt West/G-7 could figure out a way to screw this up even further by having some low-level civil servant post this type of BS in support of the Ukrainian people. Complete and total incompetence at this stage as only the US could think this type of plan will work.
Man you talk about a perfect cliche, well there are almost too many to describe this situation. Digging their own grave (the US), they made their bed and they have to sleep in it (the US), give someone enough rope and they hand themselves (the US).
The US would be wise to take a page from Russia/China right now (and to a certain extent, the balance of Europe which is much more low key on this matter). Stay quiet and focus on the long-term objectives. Avoid name calling (a sign of weakness) and knee jerk economic reactions (another sign of weakness). But the US just can't keep from sticking its foot, or in this case a sign, in its mouth.
But the bigger picture is this - What you are witnessing is history in the making. The transfer of power (political, social, economic, etc.) from West to East is now in full view of the world. The West is broke, burried under mountains of debt which will never be repaid, and demographics that don't bode well for future growth (think Japan and Southern Europe population base). The East has the resources and economic clout to reset the world order.
The main difference in thinking and actions is simple. The West wants to believe it is in control while the East knows it is in control! Just ask all of the world's largest corporations/businesses on where growth will be coming from. Not Europe, Japan, or the US but the balance of the world. And since big business runs the world, you can be assured that after a little hot air and sable rattling from the West (for nothing but a show), the relentless transfer of power/wealth from the West to the East will continue until the world's economies rebalance.
The IMF "came to the rescue" back in november of 2008 with the offer of an approximate US$16.4 billion loan, it's been on the table since and yet successive Ukraine governments have not come up to par on the IMF requirements and conditions . This has been an ongoing situation for some years.
