This is a material burden placed directly on an inalienable right of the people, and placed there by the hired servants that were originally hired to protect those rights.  Failure of fiduciary duty!  Treason!  Tort!  Crime!

To correct your blantant misinformation:

Anyone who's not a prohibited possessor may own and use a full-auto weapon manufactured before 1986 after paying for the tax stamp, provided it's legal to own in their state as well.

Full-auto weapons manufactured after 1986 can only be owned by select institions, which generally boils down to government and appropriately licensed gun dealers.

From "The Myth of Nazi Gun Control"

"It is all too easy to forget the seductive allure that fascism presented to all the West, bogged down in economic and social morass.

What must be remembered is that the Nazis were master manipulators of popular emotion and sentiment, and were disdainful of people thinking for themselves.

This is the danger to which we should pay great heed. Not fanciful stories about Nazi's seizing guns"

Does that second sentence sound all too familiar?

Hitler, as I read it, actually loosened gun control...unless you were a Jew etc.  So, really the point is made if you want to control someone then taking their guns is a good idea. Had the Jews retained their guns, they may not have stopped Hitler, but there most likely would have been a few less Nazi's.

Go to Chicago where your over-taxed, flash-mobed and robbed and you'll know  why Illinois is a good state to stay away from.

When Scott Walker of Wisconsin tried to clamp down on the out-of-control public unions many of the pro-union liberal politicians ran to Illinois.

With Quinn and Madigan they raise taxes and increase spending while never decreasing the budget deficit.

Temporary taxes become permanent.

In short, stay away from Illinois! There is no hope for that state.

I've lived in Chicago all my life---and while I love the City--we have finally decided to call it quits and move to Houston.

Here are some observations:

The city and state are both "broke"---and not just metaphorically like the US gov.---Illinois literally cannot pay its bills; sometimes delaying payments to legitimate businesses by as much as a year.   I have a good friend who leased a 1 million sq. foot warehouse to the State of Illinois.  They delayed rental payments due to "funding issues" and he ultimately lost the building in foreclosure for soley this issue.  Hard to believe--but true.  The city is facing a court mandated $600MM funding of its police and fire pensions--which will result in property taxes nearly doubling.  I currently pay over $18,000 per year in RE taxes---and I can assure you that I don't live in a "mansion".  The current pension shortfall for the city is 8x it's current operating budget.  The state isn't much better--current shortfall is estimated to be as high as $100 Billion---as little as $60Billion based on current retirees only

Speed and Traffic cameras:  We now have 6 speed enforcement cameras within 1 mile of my home.  They are high tech versions of the old "speed traps" in small towns---speed limits will arbitrarily change from 35 mph to 15 mph for approx. 50 ft--and then change back.  Its very very difficult to stay in compliance.  Fines can range as high as $200 per incident---for only minor violations (ie 10mph or more over limit).  Xerox now runs the system---they were kicked out of philly due to false tickets and errors.

Infrastructure and parking:  There is no free parking anywhere anymore---thanks to privatization--every possible spot is now metered to some degree or decreed to be "zone parking".  Potholes and road damage is so bad that I literally just spent $800 on new tires for my GL when I hit a gigantic pothole--so big that it wholly swallowed a "warning cone" that the city had place in it.  They are everywhere and little to nothing is being done.

Gun laws:  While the courts have forced the city to allow both concealed carrry and firearms ownership ( something to do with the US Constitution I hear) it is still not a gun friendly jurisdication.  No shooting ranges or gun shops in the city at all.  We are a city of over 3 million people with not one gun shop.  If you live here you cannot order mail order ammo.  One commenter said we should just "go to wisconsin to buy ammo"---well the cost of gas and time pretty much negates any benefit.  I probably will get some "down votes" for saying this---but overall--I would say that the State Police and the Chicago Police are pretty fair and efficient in administering the gun laws on the books.  Chicago police--as individuals---don't seem particulary anti-gun and I know many from range time and my particpation in IDPA.  I received my FOID card within 45 days a few years ago---and received my Concealed Carry permit within 60 days this year.  Clearly there are many that are opposed to any kind of registration and the whole concept of a FOID card.  However, I have come to believe that the system here is warranted.  Gang crime is horrific in the city and the weapons come almost entirely from straw purchases and illegal transfers.  I would note that the city recently dropped its requirement for individual gun registration and the state has never required it.  On the bright side--virtually no crime results from those in possession of a "legal" hand gun---which says something for our citizens.

Taxes:  we have the highest sales taxes in the country---and as a Cigar lover--the current tax of 26% on tobacco is beyond belief.  I don't smoke cigarettes---but the TAX ALONE is over $8 a pack---not the cost of the cigarettes---just the tax.  average cost here can be as high as $12 a pack. The State also has a "use tax"--so if you buy a vehicle or any large purchase out of state--they come after you for tax.  They are getting very good at tracking this. If you transfer a firearm through an FFL--you will end paying 10% tax on gun and a $25 surcharge plus typicall FFL fees ranging from $40 to $70.  Really ads up.  Gasoline prices here are the highest in the country---with over $0.52 cents per gallon in taxes (in the city).  the city even taxes bottle of water!  We actually buy all bottled water in suburbs.

At the end of the day--the commentators here are correct--the state and city fiscal problems are intractable.  The "death by a thousand cuts" approach (ie speed cams, etc) really starts to wear on your nerves.  Everyday life bcomes annoying in so many ways.  Chicago used be known as a city with the cultural amenities of NY---but with much better liveability.  Those days are ending.

I will miss it---but given the fact many of my friends seem to be considering the same---maybe we can start a Chicago "expats" club down in River Oaks.  LOL

Start with the easy ones first.  Brothers, Sisters, Parents.

Then move onto close friends and relatives.  Neighbors.

This is easy folks and is an exuse for US to go to the range for our own R&R.

Rule 303 from Breaker Morant.  Rule 9mm,  44mag,  .308.  I live in NW suburbs of Chicago.  I need to make a sales call this evening in the teeth of rush hour.  On my 45 mile journey that may take almost 2 hours depending on traffic I will pay several dollars in tolls,  look for and then pay at least 10 dollars to park to visit my client.  Same tolls on way home.  Straight commission. 1099 job.  No sale no $.  250 UPS workers went on a wildcat strike and are bitching about getting fired.  They have a union.  I have belonged in all 3 major unions via summer jobs way back in college days.  Did nothing but was told I worked too hard and taking hours of wages from pay once a month.  I have a word of advice that I will be following soon.  If you live in Illinois get out as soon as possible with your skin intact.  If you have a job you should keep your job.  Forgot in earlier post to state that the 250 dollar state fee for a concealed carry permit is for a five year period.

The taxes, fees and tolls keep going up. Quinn and stat legislature promise their increased state tax would be temporary, surprised now they want it permanent. People are fleeing the state. Guess people that move out have to find a someone to dump their outrageously taxed home on. Finding someone to get stuck with paying a huge yearly increasing property tax isn't easy.

In a suburb prepared food and liquor tax is 11%.

Dear Illinois Cops,

Thank you for your recent note. However, I'm having some difficulty with the inferences therein.

In this country we believe that certain rights are prima-facie (you could also say, 'self evident') and one of those rights is 'Life' so, it naturally follows that if Life is a Right, the ability to defends one's Life is a functional part of that Right. Rights are not granted by the Federal Government, State Legislature, County Supervisors or Town Council. Therefore, SINCE MY RIGHT OF SELF DEFENSE WAS NOT GRANTED BY YOU, IT CANNOT BE TAKEN BY YOU.

Thank you & Goodnight.

good luck with that on the tollway Lex when they pull you over near a holiday weekend without cause for drunk driving inspections with no probably cause.  We have become a full blown police state.  Chicago cops just shot a 95 year old man in his nursing home room because he wouldn't put down a knife.  They hit him with 5 bean bag rounds and one damaged him to the point of killing him.  A 95 year old man in a nursing home room where they could have simply shut the door to his room.  Nurses called paramedics first and apparently he hit a paramedic with his cane.  Death by bean bag round.  Coming to a city near you.  Boston was nothing but practice for shelter in place.  No warrant searches.  Gotta stop now,  blood pressure thing.

AR sales went through the roof and on the word of my 2nd nearest gun store owner prices were as high as $3,000 and shops were clean out of 'em.

Record number of applicants, so many that the state police has requested contractors to help process the applications.  Fucking fascists anyway.

Not surprising at all.  In CA, once the 9th Circuit Courts of Appeals sided with two San Diego appliants for CCW in SD County stating good cause was a bogus reason to deny applications, most counties are throwing in the towel and allowing shall issue permits, except of course SF and LA counties, although they may get their hands forced if the pricks on the supreme court don't screw things up.  They sure as hell hate the 4th Amendment so they may just throw out the 2nd amendment as well.
