US Threatens Russia Over Petrodollar-Busting Deal

Tyler Durden's picture

On the heels of Russia's potential "holy grail" gas deal with China, the news of a Russia-Iran oil "barter" deal, it appears the US is starting to get very concerned about its almighty Petrodollar

  • *U.S. HAS WARNED RUSSIA, IRAN AGAINST POSSIBLE OIL BARTER DEAL
  • *U.S. SAYS ANY SUCH DEAL WOULD TRIGGER SANCTIONS
  • *U.S. HAS CONVEYED CONCERNS TO IRANIAN GOVT THROUGH ALL CHANNELS

We suspect these sanctions would have more teeth than some travel bans, but, as we noted previously, it is just as likely to be another epic geopolitical debacle resulting from what was originally intended to be a demonstration of strength and instead is rapidly turning out into a terminal confirmation of weakness.

As we explained earlier in the week,

Russia seems perfectly happy to telegraph that it is just as willing to use barter (and "heaven forbid" gold) and shortly other "regional" currencies, as it is to use the US Dollar, hardly the intended outcome of the western blocakde, which appears to have just backfired and further impacted the untouchable status of the Petrodollar.

...

"If Washington can't stop this deal, it could serve as a signal to other countries that the United States won't risk major diplomatic disputes at the expense of the sanctions regime,"

And here is Voice of Russia, "Russia prepares to attack the Petrodollar":

The US dollar's position as the base currency for global energy trading gives the US a number of unfair advantages. It seems that Moscow is ready to take those advantages away.

The existence of “petrodollars” is one of the pillars of America's economic might because it creates a significant external demand for American currency, allowing the US to accumulate enormous debts without defaulting. If a Japanese buyer want to buy a barrel of Saudi oil, he has to pay in dollars even if no American oil company ever touches the said barrel. Dollar has held a dominant position in global trading for such a long time that even Gazprom's natural gas contracts for Europe are priced and paid for in US dollars. Until recently, a significant part of EU-China trade had been priced in dollars.

Lately, China has led the BRICS efforts to dislodge the dollar from its position as the main global currency, but the “sanctions war” between Washington and Moscow gave an impetus to the long-awaited scheme to launch the petroruble and switch all Russian energy exports away from the US currency .

The main supporters of this plan are Sergey Glaziev, the economic aide of the Russian President and Igor Sechin, the CEO of Rosneft, the biggest Russian oil company and a close ally of Vladimir Putin. Both have been very vocal in their quest to replace the dollar with the Russian ruble. Now, several top Russian officials are pushing the plan forward.

First, it was the Minister of Economy, Alexei Ulyukaev who told Russia 24 news channel that the Russian energy companies must should ditch the dollar. “ They must be braver in signing contracts in rubles and the currencies of partner-countries, ” he said.

Then, on March 2, Andrei Kostin, the CEO of state-owned VTB bank, told the press that Gazprom, Rosneft and Rosoboronexport, state company specialized in weapon exports, can start trading in rubles. “ I've spoken to Gazprom, to Rosneft and Rosoboronexport management and they don't mind switching their exports to rubles. They only need a mechanism to do that ”, Kostin told the attendees of the annual Russian Bank Association meeting.

Judging by the statement made at the same meeting by Valentina Matviyenko, the speaker of Russia's upper house of parliament, it is safe to assume that no resources will be spared to create such a mechanism. “ Some ‘hot headed' decision-makers have already forgotten that the global economic crisis of 2008 - which is still taking its toll on the world - started with a collapse of certain credit institutions in the US, Great Britain and other countries. This is why we believe that any hostile financial actions are a double-edged sword and even the slightest error will send the boomerang back to the aborigines,” she said.

It seems that Moscow has decided who will be in charge of the “boomerang”. Igor Sechin, the CEO of Rosneft, has been nominated to chair the board of directors of Saint-Petersburg Commodity Exchange, a specialized commodity exchange. In October 2013, speaking at the World Energy Congress in Korea, Sechin called for a "global mechanism to trade natural gas" and went on suggesting that " it was advisable to create an international exchange for the participating countries, where transactions could be registered with the use of regional currencies ". Now, one of the most influential leaders of the global energy trading community has the perfect instrument to make this plan a reality. A Russian commodity exchange where reference prices for Russian oil and natural gas will be set in rubles instead of dollars will be a strong blow to the petrodollar.

Rosneft has recently signed a series of big contracts for oil exports to China and is close to signing a “jumbo deal” with Indian companies. In both deals, there are no US dollars involved. Reuters reports, that Russia is close to entering a goods-for-oil swap transaction with Iran that will give Rosneft around 500,000 barrels of Iranian oil per day to sell in the global market. The White House and the russophobes in the Senate are livid and are trying to block the transaction because it opens up some very serious and nasty scenarios for the petrodollar. If Sechin decides to sell this Iranian oil for rubles, through a Russian exchange, such move will boost the chances of the “petroruble” and will hurt the petrodollar.

It can be said that the US sanctions have opened a Pandora's box of troubles for the American currency. The Russian retaliation will surely be unpleasant for Washington, but what happens if other oil producers and consumers decide to follow the example set by Russia? During the last month, China opened two centers to process yuan-denominated trade flows, one in London and one in Frankfurt. Are the Chinese preparing a similar move against the greenback? We'll soon find out.

Finally, those curious what may happen next, only not to Iran but to Russia, are encouraged to read "From Petrodollar To Petrogold: The US Is Now Trying To Cut Off Iran's Access To Gold."

I think Russia, Iran, China will need to price their transaction in Ozs gold....not that they need to actually ship the gold, just price it in gold. That seems the best standard for them all to use.

In fact I think it inevitable to guard against games played on their currencies.

Cue Israel to start a war against Iran in 3,2.......

They will manufacture an excuse to start it without our involvement. Then we figure out a way to join in on the fun later on after the bar room brawl is in full effect.

Probably will blow up in Israel's face though with the backlash of actually uniting all the Muslims Shia and Sunni to play pile on the jew. They'd all love to take that place back and have everyone stick their ass up in the air to Allah 5 times a day if they get an opportunity that they might actually be able to win on.

Remember Obama plays for team jihad first and everyone else second, he'll bumble this on purpose if it gets Israel taken out in the process.

You're waiting to get into the club. Your buddy, narrow chested with girlish hips, says, "What this" and punches the bouncer in the face. Do you start throwing punches or do you let him get his shit kicked in?

While you watch, your limp wristed friend pulls out a unregisterd nuclear bomb. He keeps in his pants to enhance his bulge. I've told him, "It's supposed to go IN FRONT".

Well, what do you do?

Interesting parallel - the last ruling family of ancient Egypt were black africans, brought in as a final throw of the dice by the elite priest class. There are no records explaining what happened to the civilisation after that - it seems to have disappeared into the abyss of history. Modern blacks use this as evidence that Ancient Egypt was a flourishing black civilisation, though this couldn't be further from the truth.

That is more telling than anything else that they allowed the Chinese to set up shop in both places whether the US was in agreement or not.

The Bank of England is the head of the global banking cartel regardless of what everyone thinks about the FED. The boss never does the heavy lifting only sets the rules and makes sure the most important things they revere like gold is under their control. A real crime boss that has ruled the roost for generations doesn't ever show themselves as the boss openly in public.

Critically thinking question which 2 cities are the Rothchild family known for?

Whose gold does that German gold really belong to if it is a Rothchild run central bank?

What do they like to control above all else in the paper markets out of England?

Who took their gold for safe keeping?

Payback's a bitch, never 'borrow' their precious and violate the terms of the leasing deal when it comes due.

I'd take it a step further and say Bundesbank is the real head of global banking cartel for the following reason.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutsche_Bundesbank

...

Unlike other central banks such as the Bank of England and the U.S. Federal Reserve (but like the ECB), the Bundesbank is not officially responsible for maintaining the stability of the financial system and is not a lender of last resort

...

Not only that Frankfurt is where the ECB is located plus it is their ancient homeland going back to the 1500s for the entire Rothchild family.

If you were running a whole central banking system and you were this family which particular bank would you put at the top of organizational chart and out of the spotlight to call the shots from without actually doing any of the heavy lifting directly?

People are still people at the end of the day and exhibit human tendencies you know.

Another interesting aside.

Hitler was supposed to have been a Rothschild, his father was supposed to have been an illegitimate son of Lionel Nathan Rothschild.

And he knew about it also. Would explain his hatred for jews especially uber rich ones like the Rothschilds since it would have been personal.

http://www.reformation.org/adolf-hitler.html

"There are some people who seriously doubt that Johann Georg Hiedler was the father of Alois. Thyssen and Koehler, for example, claim that Chancellor Dollfuss had ordered the Austrian police to conduct a thorough investigation into the Hitler family. As a result of this investigation a secret document was prepared that proved that Maria Anna Schicklgruber was living in Vienna at the time she conceived. At that time she was employed as a servant in the home of Baron Rothschild. As soon as the family discovered her pregnancy she was sent back to her home in Spital where Alois was born. If it is true that one of the Rothschilds is the real father of Alois Hitler, it would make Adolf a quarter Jew. According to these sources, Adolf Hitler knew of the existence of this document and the incriminating evidence it contained. In order to obtain it he precipitated events in Austria and initiated the assassination of Dollfuss. According to this story, he failed to obtain the document at that time since Dollfuss had secreted it and had told Schuschnigg of its whereabouts so that in the event of his death the independence of Austria would remain assured. Several stories of this general character are in circulation. (Langer, The Mind of Adolf Hitler, p.107)."

Dewey Cheatum Howe's picture

Some more interesting asides on Hitler from the website and some parallels to Obama, not saying he is a Rothschild but the who is his real daddy and citizenship and the fact he is a mental moron who happens to be a good orator like Hitler and how both came out of nowhere seems to mirror each other here.

...

Adolf left Vienna and went to Munich for one reason: to avoid the draft. . . .  The man who sent millions to their deaths' in combat was a draft dodger. Hitler's roommate during his Vienna days was Gustl Kubizek. He said that Hitler never read a book, never went to the library and his sketches were awful!! How then came he to write a book entitled Mein Kampf which became a bestseller?

Mein Kampf was ghost-written by a Jesuit priest named Father Staempfle.1 Hitler the dunce was the tool of much more cunning men. .. . Hitler had only one talent: he was a good public speaker and knew how to harangue the masses. As the son of a Civil Servant, Hitler could have obtained a good job in Vienna had he been inclined to work.

The first thing that Hitler did when he invaded Austria was to find and confiscate his draft records. That was probably the main reason why he invaded his homeland.!!

...

Realizing that he was a Rothschild, we can understand why Hitler the dunce could come out of nowhere and become Chancellor of Germany.

...

If you believe the Rothschild legacy sounds like typical rich family where the patriach fathers a bastard and then tries to make it right later on without anyone knowing but it looks to have blown up in their faces big time.

All of which stands or falls on the central point of Hitler having been fathered by some Rothschild or other, and not - for instance - by one of the other servants.Even then, 2nd generation , 4th offspring from 3rd marriage. Bit tenuous, really.

There is more to it than that, supposedly he learned his oratory skills and was working for the MI6 also right up until and even after he became Chancellor of Germany.

There are 'missing' years as far as exactly where he was that coincide with him being a draft dodger in Vienna and a simple explanation was he just wasn't in Vienna or Austria period during this time frame. This much is known is that spent time living with his brother Alois in Liverpool between 1912 - 1913 right before he left and went to Munich. He may have been in England for as far back as 1910 and supposedly he was trained or programmed if you want to call it that by the MI6 through the Tavistock Institute.

He dodges the draft then joins the Bavarian army in Germany and becoming decorated as brave soldier - something don't add up and his supposed MI6 handler was Houston Stewart Chamberlain.

His brother Alois story is wonky also he left Liverpool leaving his wife and son in 1914 to move to Berlin. He then faked his death and the only reason he got caught was his first wife ran into him in a theater while he was with another woman. He brought up on charges of bigamy over it but they were later dropped.

No heads of state get elected from the peons, they don't allow substandard pedigrees of non royal/nobility bloodline pedigrees to run the whole show. He has the right genes (even if slightly diluted) and perfect cover story at the same time. From the looks of it this guy was groomed and he was supposed only be a placeholder in the Weimar Republic for most likely Rothschild backdoor control since he may have been a bastard but he was 'their' bastard and they lost control of him once the Nazi party maneuvered into power and overthrew the government and set up the Third Reich. If not then then not too long afterwards if you believe they kept appeasing him because they thought they still had him under control. Sound familiar, Ukraine and the Neo Nazis anyone?

so, what happens if Russia enters into a barter deal with Iran?

Post 1970's the USA went into bankruptcy, and out of that came a new system of using the US-MIL rather than GOLD to back the currency.

For 40+ years the FED-RESERVE has printed USD to INFINITY and force the worlds black-markets to trade only in USD.

>>>

BIS/IBC certainly knew in 1970 that the New System, wouldn't last forever, so they have plan's A/B/C... all in the ready.

PUTIN will be bought off, just like they bought off GORBY.

Now the PTB wants a WAR to cancel all debt, then we go to the IMF-SDR, right now the USA fears that if we went to the IMF-SDR tomorrow that the USA would be saddled with permanent debt to the world.

Thus its imperative to have WW3, and reset all the USA debt, and steal all the worlds GOLD/OIL, then move into post WW3 with the IMF-SDR and live happily ever after.

The question is how can we put an end to this stranglehold on the global financial system by the BIS/IBC and its armed wing?

There is a simple, straightforward answer: “Destroy US dollar hegemony, and the ‘Empire’ will collapse.” If more nations join Iran, Russia and China, and opt out of the US dollar protection racket, then this evil “Empire” will surely collapse along with its armed wing.

it's just my opinion, but it seems to me this was an all or WW3 gambit by Washington from the start. obviously a political solution was never on the table unless that solution was total Russian capitulation to NATO and the west in the Ukraine. but Moscow halving played the dupe so many times since the break up of the old Soviet Union finally drew there own red line, which is of course why they moved so quickly on Crimea, they had to secure Sevastopol and the Black sea fleet base to lose that to a western friendly Kiev would have been fatal.

with the paper fiat empire of endless debt falling apart the struggle for control of hard assets is heating up, the US and EU may be worse than broke but they still have one last card to play, overwhelming military power. they just need to frame the coming invasion of eastern Europe, Asia and the intensified conquest of the MENA as reactionary, a response to evil dictators, repressive governments and an aspiring Hitler. of course the propaganda media has been working in overdrive to exactly that point and purpose. they have already set up the next and maybe final piece of propaganda that will drive us to war, at the next meeting between Iran and world powers over their nuclear program Russia will side firmly with Iran and all but hand them the keys to the nuclear kingdom.

now all they need is to back Russia into so tight a corner that they are left with no choice but to throw the first punch, or hit themselves in such a way that it can be easily blamed on Russia, either way the war will come it has already been decided. although I do not pretend to be personally prepared for what is to come, on that that day when our empty suit TOTUS  stands regretfully in front of the nation and announces that we tried everything to settle this diplomatically and peacefully but to no avail and war is now the only option left I will take a least some comfort in knowing he is an absolute fucking liar.

I will not fight for the empire, I hold no allegiance to the parasites who infest Washington DC, they in no way represent me or my interests and if I die in a preemptive nuclear strike from whatever source at least I will know exactly who's fault it really is.

You would have known that years ago if you had read and understood the "Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion".  China has been set-up as the the next rothchild appointee in the barrel of endless currency bloodletting and eventual oligarchical confiscation of all assets by the already-entrenched Babylonian shadow fiat bankster regime; finally culminating in a bloody overthrow of the existing criminal communist regime by the enslaved prolotariat.

The Chinese reign atop the pinnacle of world economies will be brief and bloody and will end in an Asian calamity.  The seeds of Chinese economic rot have already been planted.

The continuing devolution of the American and European economies will strengthen the Yuan and bring it to prominence, and that, in return, will, soon thereafter, bring about the collapse of the Chinese economic fraud by requiring internationally affiliated Chinese manufacturing to move to more competitive environs, leaving a hollowed-out nation with several hundreds of millions of urban homeless people with no way to support and feed themselves.  Chaos will reign and overflow the region.

The artificial Chinese economy cannot be sustained without prosperous counter parties to feed upon.  The Chinese economy was built by the Chinese central planners and was built on exports to the more prosperous economies of The West;... built upon the premise of currency manipulation setting a weak Yuan to undercut long-established Western manufacturing and draw physical facilities and intellectual resources into its slave-labor maw.

As the Western economies that China has been feeding upon weaken, The pendulum of currency movement will swing away from China revealing the hollow shell that is the real Chinese economy.....A mountain of re-re-re-re-hypothicated overvalued, unaudited, assets supposedly collateralizing trillions of Yuan in debts.

If you have any significant investments in Chinese real estate or equities, you better get them out fast.  It is getting late in that Ponzi scheme.

It doesn't require indigeous Jews to run a Babylonian fractional reserve fiat countrtfeiting banking fraud.  The Rothchild and Sassoons educated and installed their bankster apostles into the ranks of the Chinese Politboro and universities decades ago.  They have been inculcating baby Chinese banksters with the same ethicless rationale and fraudulent economics that the baby banksters learn at Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Penn.

It was easy to disciple the indigenous Chinese.  After several decades of communist hell they didn't even have to strive to overcome the initial Christian reticence at destroying and impoverishing their fellow human beings.  It took The Tribe centuries to hornswoggle and convert the fuedal royalty of the Christian West into their duplicitous financial frauds.

It has now evolved into a takeover of virtually the economic and financial life of every nation on the planet.

Your assumption that it requires indigeous Jews to accomplish the inevitable destruction of the national economies of the world is a ill-considered position.  When properly trained and trapped useful idiots of any ilk will work to front for the system.  It is the system that works the destruction.  Once set in place it will consume/confiscate everything of value on earth.

A third grader can figure this out.

Total bullshit.

All non-Chinese were deported, killed, eaten, imprisoned, or forced to leave from 1949-1982 or so.

It's impossible to plant someone non-Chinese into any position of any authority in China above that of Dancing White Monkey and if one does, for a time, manage to rise to that level, one is replaced by a Chinese native within a year or two. Talk to ABC who try to 'return to their roots' to find out how the USA born Chinese, who appear Chinese, fair when in China.

It is culturally impossible for the Chinese to accept any non-Chinese face in a positoin of any power, and heaven forfend one actually made it far enough to be interviewed on CCTV as someone in power and authority.

They don't trust non-Chinese, they dont't trust returning children with any other national allegiance, and they don't trust non-Chinese ideas or concepts.

Whether by design or merely as a byproduct of globalization we have weaved a web of financial transactions that circle the globe. Over the last several years as money was printed by the central Banks it was not contained in the countries where in was printed. This money flowed across borders influencing and distorting markets and prices across the world.

Some people have been calling for a "world currency" for years. the saying "one should never let a good crisis go to waste" means a meltdown with high levels of fear would present a perfect opportunity to advance this agenda down the field. Remember many people with agendas have a lot to gain when a major shift in the currency markets takes place. More on this subject in the article below.

You aren't alone in thinking that.

"Arnold Toynbee, the eminent British historian and friend of the United States, as set forth in The New York Times of May 7, 1970:"To most Europeans, I guess, America now looks like the most dangerous country in the world. Since America is unquestionably the most powerful country, the transformation of America's image within the last thirty years is very frightening for Europeans. It is probably still more frightening for the great majority of the human race who are neither Europeans nor North Americans, but are Latin Americans, Asians and Africans. They, I imagine, feel even more insecure than we feel. They feel that, at any moment, America may intervene in their internal affairs with the same appalling consequences as have followed from American intervention in Southeast Asia. For the world as a whole, the CIA has now become the bogey that Communism has been for America. Wherever there is trouble, violence, suffering, tragedy, the rest of us are now quick to suspect the CIA had a hand in it. Our phobia about the CIA is, no doubt, as fantastically excessive as America's phobia about world Communism; but in this case, too, there is just enough convincing guidance to make the phobia genuine. In fact, the roles of America and Russia have been reversed in the world's eyes. Today America has become the world's nightmare. "

As far as I can see the USA has come to an incredibly fragile position. It is uniquely dependent on Saudi Arabia to keep it from plummeting into an economic chasm.

It wants to take Iraq oil, Iran oil....but that didn't and wont work. It relys heavily on Saudi Arabia.....and it has decided to spark a big confrontation with that other major energy resource...Russia. You know, to try and reduce access to Russian oil. Instead of getting into bed with Russia it has decided its old military CIA violent killing way of doing things...old habits die hard.

The USA is the giant battery powered Tansformer whose batteries are running flat....in love with its own power it fools itself it can use its power to force a supply of new batteries. But the vultures are smarter, sitting in the tree watching this machine die slowly as it thrashes about.

America consumes all it's own oil, on top of that it consumes all of Saudi's oil and most of Russia's as well.

To match with the rest of the world, America would have to cut consumption to about 1/4 -> 1/5 of current levels. This is not a good place to be when oil production has peakedd and is on the downward slope. Everything based on that oil is going to collapse.

This interview nails it:

Attack Russia via Ukraine before the US economy collapses
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YZqIV1hJrA

The clock is ticking for the collapse of the Western financial system. Its only chance of survival is to seize control of Russia, steal its vast natural resources and eliminate its geo-political resistance.

In 2014-2015 one of these two scenarios will inevitably unfold:

1. Regime change in Russia (by war, terrorism or infiltration) to bring to power a new authority, whom the Western politicians and media will call “pro-Western”, “democratic”, “restoring Russia from its isolation”, etc., or:

2. Collapse of the Western economy, in particular the United States of America, when the BRICS finally pull the plug on financing the US government.

Evgeny Fedorov, a deputy in the Russian parliament, and coordinator of the People's Liberation Movement, explains the role of Ukraine as a platform for launching an attack on Russia and the “contest” which is being conducted by the US to identify candidates with the right credentials for the post of President of Ukraine, which principally means enthusiasm to attack Russia, with nuclear weapons if necessary.

You gotta love our little mudbunny pesident. He hasn't wavered one iota since that first year in office when it was explained to him where the money comes from. He and the bankers are litterly joined at the hip (or anus) and there will be no deviation from his plan to remake the US. Print the money to maintain the 1%'s wealth and maintain the burgeoning lower halfs sense of entitlement. The tiny dimple in the economy that was the middle class is becoming a canyon. All of their efforts, grabbing 401K's, reducing social security, giving the entire health care system to the insurance companies through the affordacle care act will just continue to decimate more of the economy. Benghazi Hillary will run even with the missing Billions. This is a complete a total absence of common sense replaced by greed, greed for money and power.

Exactly why is "diplomacy" being conducted in public.... consisting of THREATS.... which if backed up will encourage other countries to barter and by pass the worthless dolla... the net result will be ussa further isolation, as it decreases its military and increases its dependence on printing or debt.... THIS "ADMINISTRAITON" should be IMPEACHED... asap

Seems elitist bankers are attempting to threaten countries in Europe through our president. Didn't they try this once before and it didn't work out so well for them?

Trade[edit]In addition to their trade and cooperation in hydrocarbons, Iran and Russia have also expanded trade ties in many non-energy sectors of the economy, including a large agriculture agreement in January 2009 and a telecommunications contract in December 2008.[13] In July 2010, Iran and Russia signed an agreement to increase their cooperation in developing their energy sectors. Features of the agreement include the establishment of a joint oil exchange, which with a combined production of up to 15 million barrels of oil per day has the potential to become a leading market globally.[14] Gazprom and Lukoil have become increasingly involved in the development of Iranian oil and gas projects.

In 2005, Russia was the seventh largest trading partner of Iran, with 5.33% of all exports to Iran originating from Russia.[15] Trade relations between the two increased from USD$1 billion in 2005[16] to $3.7 billion in 2008.[13] Motor vehicles, fruits, vegetables, glass, textiles, plastics, chemicals, hand-woven carpet, stone and plaster products were among the main Iranian non-oil goods exported to Russia.[17] According Reuters (Wed Apr 2, 2014), Iran and Russia have made progress towards an oil for goods deal sources said would be worth up to $20 billion.[18][19]

20 Billion! The sky is falling, the sky is falling.......

I think that all of these deals that avoid the US petro dollar are great.

The sooner they happen the better and the USA and the Fed will relaise that they too have to be carfeul about how much debt they run up.

Imposing sanctions on Russia has been and will continue to be completely counter productive to all involved.

The modern economy that has evolved over the last several decades is loaded with interwoven contracts reeking of contagion. I contend that if faith drops in these intangible "promises" and money suddenly flows into tangible goods seeking a safe haven inflation will soar.

The article below ties into this as the situation unfolding further shakes the faith many people hold in the money and promises governments have made. When rules get rewritten they will not be in our favor.
