Ukraine Defense Ministry "Warns" Of Imminent Russian Invasion

Tyler Durden's picture

Ealier we learned that a great number of Americans don't even know where the Ukraine is located. We also learned that those who actually were familiar with the location of the former USSR nation were the least interested in a US military intervention (as opposed to those who inexplicably thought Ukraine is right next to Omaha or in Alaska). And now, we learn that according to the Defense Ministry of the Ukraine, which is citing a "military expert", one Dmitry Tymchuk whose pretty maps have graced these pages in the past, Ukraine is sounding the alarm on what it reports is an imminent invasion by Russia into east Ukraine, which could take place as soon as tonight.

From the ministry's twitter account:

Adn from its Facebook page, where apparently in the social-networked age, military intelligence is distributed:

Invasion of Ukraine planned tonight, says Military Expert Dmitry Tymchuk:

"Breaking news from group "Information Resistance" We, the group "Information Resistance", have received from our reliable sources the satisfactory confirmation of the statement of Ukrainian Foreign Ministry that the observed activity of the separatists in eastern Ukraine which has been lasting for the last three days is nothing but the beginning of the second phase of the scenario for the Russian invasion in our country.

In particular, according to our information, the separatist leaders, who follow the plan of GRU * of General Headquarters of Russian Armed Forces, have been given the instructions to organize a "corridor" through the state border of Ukraine for passage of the convoys of military equipment from the Russian territory at the night of April 8th to 9th.

Separatists also have received the orders to organize provocations with the casualties in the cities of the region which could be interpreted by the Russian side as "terror against the people organized by Ukrainian authorities".

In addition, the coordinators of Russian GRU, who work in the region, have instructed the separatists to use gunfire weapon in case the attempts to liberate the occupied administrative buildings are taken.

According to our information, Ukrainian law enforcement agencies and special services are now taking the necessary measures to block the groups of the separatists.

State Border Service and the Armed Forces of Ukraine are carrying out the activities on blocking and defense of the state border in the respective areas. "

* GRU – Directorate General of Intelligence of General Headquarters of Russian Armed Forces

So just more scaremongering by a nation that is seemingly desperate to be invaded by Russia just so its new "allies" can defend it (if that's Ukraine's gambit, it will be sorely disappointed)? Or will Russia indeed invade tonight? We doubt it - certainly not without much more real or false flag provocations first, and should there be no invasion tonight, one can just say the date has been pushed back by a day, or two, or three.

Then again at this point who knows - as we have pointed out repeatedly, it is not Russia's actions that are unpredictable - in fact quite the opposite - it is the Ukraine that has been the irrational and "defective" actor in the latest Cold War 2.0 realpolitik game theory.

There will be no invasion of Ukraine. To think otherwise is downright idiotic. Russia doesn't have to do anything except wait for the east part of what's left of Ukraine to liberate itself and intervene only if NATO slips up, which they will, because they always do. Invasion? Come on! Think! No! There is no urgency for Russia here.

I have a hard time understanding why so many commenters are focused on nuclear weapons. Why would any attacking military use nukes when biologicals are so much more effective AND deniable? Of course military types are addicted to things that go zoom and boom, but that is a yesterday's mentality. You can bet that if the Chinese ever get into it the bad bugs are gonna fly.

What is happening in Ukraine and the unrest in many areas in the world brings into focus the many conflicts that develop when a region decides to change governments often outside the recognized democratic system of voting. In some cases even after an overwhelming vote such as in Crimea the whole process is called into question.

Unfortunately the American civil war did not resolve the issue of succession forever and definitely was not a template for a solution that should be used in countries across the planet. Bottom-line many in politics are slow to give up control and this will not change. For more on this important issue see the article below.

Russia is taking advantage of the weakness built into the Ukrainian state by its own stooge, Yanukovych.  The Ukrainian government has had no time to form itself, and Russia is intent on allowing it none.

It is shameful for zerohedge to celebrate the bully like this.  Russia may well prevail, but they are imposing themselves on citizens of a sovereign country.  If they were really wanted, they would not have to use the non-uniform uniforms, human shields and other despicable measures.  However successful.

"Then again at this point who knows - as we have pointed out repeatedly, it is not Russia's actions that are unpredictable - in fact quite the opposite"

I dispute that statement.

I do not disagree that the West has meddled in Ukraine.  I am not convinced that it is all a CIA plot. We are in a multi-polar world.  The CIA is only one party - and not the one with the most to gain.

HOWEVER,

Nothing that has happened so far has required the Russian Army to leave Russia.   Crimea could have done their referendum on schedule, with the Russian Army comfortably in the Russian bases in Crimea.  If an organized force were to go to Crimea there would have been adequate time to leave the base.

Putting the Russian Army in the streets of another country BEFORE holding the referendum makes it look like Crimea was threatened.  From what I remember of Crimea, the majority DO want to be part of Russia.  But most people in the world don't know where Crimea is, and know absolutely nothing of its population. So, putting the Army there before the referendum made the headlines into "Russia Invades!" rather than "Crimea has Spoken".

To stabilize the situation, the subject of discussion, and headlines needed to be "Crimea has Spoken".

Even worse, Russian Channel One - wholly controlled by the Russian Government - is announcing how Russia can turn everyone into "Nuclear Ash".

Russia is not the only country with Nuclear bombs.  Perhaps some who are unaccustomed to carrying weapons do not know - but those who are normally armed do not normally threaten.  This is for a good reason.  If you do not intend to shoot, the person you threatened still might shoot.   And even if they don't shoot, they will remember you threatened their lives, and will not want to let you have a second chance.

Flatly, threateneing everyone with nuclear holocaust indicates that the West is RIGHT to circle Russia with anti-rocket defenses.

Think about it.  If you had a neighbor who had a habit of threatening people with a gun, would you not put on body armor?

Moreover, what purpose do such threats serve?  Do people want to buy from those who threaten them with death?  Do they want to cooperate? Will they accept negotiation? Or will they think that the one who threatens speaks only to gain advantage, and the words mean nothing?

Everyone in the Ukraine dispute, and many outside of it, have broken treaties.  If there are any adults in the governments of the world, they will acknowledge that those treaties are null, and work to establish new agreements.

I know this because my country has threatened too much in the last decades.  More than Russia, recently.

What can I say?  Politicians are like roosters, always strutting and looking for fights to distract people from how much they steal and how much they abuse normal people.  But normal people have power too.  They have the power of the voice.  We kept our crazy incompetent government from invading Libya,  and from invading Syria, and we will make them bring everyone home from Iraq and Afghanistan, and stop all their paranoid, insane spying on everyone in the world, but it will take patience.

Phoenix-based international marriage agency A Foreign Affair is still leading groups of men to Ukraine in search of wives, despite the volatile political crisis developing in Ukraine's eastern border with Russia.  Tens of thousands of Russian troops have amassed just miles from the cities of Lugansk and Sumy, two of AFA's most popular destinations among mail-order-bride seekers.  "Actually, we're going to Lugansk this weekend for a large singles event and plan to be there for a week afterwards," says AFA CEO John Adams. "We've done three romance tours to Ukraine since the political crisis began in November and the response from the women there has been overwhelming."

Hardly inconspicuous as they travel on buses in large groups from city to city, AFA's tour groups have encountered no hostilities from locals or anti-American sentiment.  "Aside from the occasional isolated protest here and there, it seems like life as usual in every city we've visited so far," says Adams, who receives a daily briefing from local staffers in Kiev and Odessa.  "If anything, we're seeing record numbers of ladies attending our social parties."  Asked how bad things would have to get in Ukraine in order for travel plans to be cancelled, Adams says "Obviously, we wouldn't intentionally put our clients in harms way.  We can always detour to a back up city for awhile if need be.  We just ask clients to understand that while things are still relatively calm throughout Ukraine, there is a heightened risk."  The company, which has been introducing American men to Ukrainian women for 15 years, has three more tours planned for this year.
