Where's Ukraine?

Tyler Durden's picture

Only one out of six Americans could correctly locate Ukraine on a map of the world, but perhaps even more disconcerting, as The Washington Post reports, the farther their guesses were from Ukraine's actual location, the more they wanted the US to intervene with military force...

As The Washington Post reports,

Accuracy varies across demographic groups. In general, younger Americans tended to provide more accurate responses than their older counterparts: 27 percent of 18-24 year olds correctly identified Ukraine, compared with 14 percent of 65+ year-olds. Men tended to do better than women, with 20 percent of men correctly identifying Ukraine and 13 percent  of women.

Interestingly, members of military households were no more likely to correctly locate Ukraine (16.1 percent  correct) than members of non-military households (16 percent  correct), but self-identified independents (29 percent  correct) outperformed both Democrats (14 percent  correct) and Republicans (15 percent  correct).  Unsurprisingly, college graduates (21 percent  correct) were more likely to know where Ukraine was than non-college graduates (13 percent  correct), but even 77 percent  of college graduates failed to correctly place Ukraine on a map.

The proportion of college grads who could correctly identify Ukraine is only slightly higher than the proportion of Americans who told Pew that President Obama was Muslim in August 2010.

...

The further our respondents thought that Ukraine was from its actual location, the more they wanted the U.S. to intervene militarily.

Even controlling for a series of demographic characteristics and participants’ general foreign policy attitudes, we found that the less accurate our participants were, the more they wanted the U.S. to use force, the greater the threat they saw Russia as posing to U.S. interests, and the more they thought that using force would advance U.S. national security interests; all of these effects are statistically significant at a 95 percent  confidence level.

The results are clear, but also somewhat disconcerting:

The less people know about where Ukraine is located on a map, the more they want the U.S. to intervene militarily.

Still unclear.. here's a 2-minute explainer...

So now that you have come to the conclusion that the Dark Ages have never ended and that the masses are serfs whom are just homesteading on their Lord's eSTATEs (Governments) just what can you do about it?

You are corrrect as it is a living nightmare for the marginalized intellectual. It does get lonely at times when there is nobody to talk with.

Even on ZH there are many whom have not a clue just where the Ukraine is located or whom could even point out the Black Sea if their life depended on it. (It may turn out that it does depend on it but setting that aside...)

Read the post above where Optimator believed that the Ukraine was inbetween Germany and Moscow. Of course Poland was in the path of the Direct Route.

(Of course Hitler wanted to seize the Oil Resources from the Ukranian Steppes as that fuel was needed for his Wehrmacht. That had nothing to do with seizing Moscow. The battle for the Ukraine was the scene of the largest Tank Battle in History, ignorantly unknown.)

Now I am not a Geographer but I damned well know where the Ukraine is.

You are correct. It is a fucking non stop nightmare.

(At least last night's graphic nightmare of experiencing a Tornado with multiple vortices, flying sheet metal and drywall debris, with the Lightning Bolts is preferable to waking up to this.  I can paint that picture and I have never been in a tornado in my life. It was weird. It is still in my head. But I will take that nightmare over this one as that nightmare was surreal.)

Fucking ill informed serfs!!! It is so damned absurd. Even with the Internet and all of our "Modern Technologies" we are still in the Dark Ages. There is no excuse as they watch their God Damned Tee Vee Sets instead of READING BOOKS.

Fucking ignorant serfs.

Ah yes the battle of Kharkiv...biggest tank battle ever...epic stuff.

Many Americans think they beat the Nazis/"saved Europe" but if they truly knew the truly mindbogglingly epic scale of the war on the eastern front it might give them some humbling perspective.

Small point...Hitler's southern prong of his 1941 invasion, the southern task group, wasn't heading for Ukrainian oil fields (there aren't any), they were going for the oil rich Caucasus...e.g. Baku, site of the world first commercial oil well. Getting those oilfields was so important that when Barbarossa failed and the Germans reset for another round of invasion in 1942, they ditched any pretense at trying to capture northern Russia and just focussed the new offensive on the southern flank.

Thanks. Your "small point" is large.

The USA would have fared much better by staying out of that war and left it to the Soviets and Russians to fight it out. We'd have still been preeminent after it was over without the unnecessary lost lives, shattered dreams, and expenditures of capital.

"... just what can you do about it?"

Well, Tall Tom, I guess the only thing that I can do is go through the stages of grief, kicking and screaming all the way, because I do not want to accept the conclusion that there is no reasonable hope for the future. I repeat that I mainly get by with maintaining irrational hopes for some series of political miracles. I "know" that is extremely unlikely, but nevertheless, the way that I personally cope with the surrounding social insanities is with my own kind of insanity, desperately attempt to cling to some shred of irrational hope, because I would rather do that, than accept the apparently objective facts, that there is no reasonable basis to have any hope whatsoever.

As far as I can tell, we are totally trapped within vicious spirals of financial frauds, which automatically get worse, faster. The basic system of private banks making the public "money" supply out of nothing as debts HAS driven debt slavery to become debt insanity. There are no mathematically possible ways, within the money-as-debt system, for the USA, nor any other countries with that system, to ever pay its debts, or live up to its promised obligations. There is NO possible better resolution within the currently established systems, but for them to automatically get worse, faster, as that system of debt slavery drives itself through to some eventual series of psychotic breakdowns, due to its numbers becoming such extreme debt insanities, that that system finally collapses into crazy chaos.

The ONLY way that a Century of such debt slavery could runaway, at an exponential rate, to generate debt insanity situations, is that the vast majority of the population were successfully brainwashed to believe in bizarre bullshit, and conditioned to not want to understand the basic social insanities surrounding them, allowing private banks to make the public "money" supply out of nothing as debts.

Any relatively rational and objective assessment of the American democratic republic, which applies pretty well everywhere else too, is that it has already been almost totally destroyed. The vicious spiral of triumphant frauds generating fantastic profits, which enabled even greater financial frauds, has clearly jumped the rails, as anyone who regularly reads Zero Hedge already recognizes all too well. Indeed, in my opinion, the main difference between different Zero Hedge writers and readers is the degree to which they are able to maintain some shreds of irrational hopes for the foreseeable future. (In that context, I observe that the relatively more mainstream and successful people are able to delude themselves more successfully.)

My own psychological "solution" is to be slightly more self-aware of myself maintaining irrational hopes, rather than have no hope left at all. However, my true view is that things are trillions of times worse than we can fully comprehend, and anyone who does not recognize that is merely maintaining their own kinds of irrational hopes for the future, slightly more so that I can, because they manage to be relatively less self-aware of the degree to which they are able to delude themselves that things are not as bad as they really are. (Ironically, the more successful people were at operating within the established systems, the more delusional they were enabled to be about what those systems are actually doing.)

In my view, since money is measurement backed by murder, which system is able to operate through the maximum possible deceits and frauds, with the most successful people within those actual systems being the ones who are best able to be professional liars, and immaculate hypocrites, whose social skills depend upon them deceiving themselves too, in order to even better deceive others, the objective realities of runaway debt slavery being transformed into becoming debt insanity necessarily means that we are headed towards that causing death insanities as the result of our society becoming more and more criminally insane, automatically, every day, as endless financial frauds are able to direct all our economic decisions, while those few who benefit from those frauds therefore become even more able to dominate the funding of the political processes, in order to make sure that there are even bigger lies getting legalized, and backed up with even greater legalized violence.

Step by step, society is more and more controlled by endless and accelerating frauds, whose short-term triumphs have worse and worse longer term consequences accumulating all the while, but which consequences are still able for most people to continue to deliberately ignore in the medium term. Since the overwhelming vast majority of people do NOT think about the deeper meanings about "money" being made out of nothing as debts, and do NOT want to think about that, anyone who bothers to try to seriously understand that social insanity discovers that there is no practical point to having done so, unless one is going to continue to be cynical enough to try to take temporary advantage of that situation, but otherwise, not going to try to do anything to change the basic systems, which have already driven debt slavery to become debt insanities.

In my view, our society is already far too criminally insane to do anything but for that to continue to get worse, faster, until it finally drives itself through some series of psychotic breakdowns, as its systems finally collapse into chaos, due to the paradox of too much success at controlling that society with lies, for too long. In that context, as I said, Tall Tom, my emotional response is to cling to some irrational hopes that we might be able to mitigate the degree of those crazy collapses, and perhaps recover better, sooner, if we understood those events better. However, I actually believe that that is just me merely being insane in my own personal way, by still holding on to irrational hopes, in order to not end up being left with no hope whatsoever ... The final stage of grief is supposed to be acceptance of death. However, I still find that too difficult to do. I still cannot accept the apparently obvious and unavoidable conclusion that our society is suffering from runaway criminal insanities, which are going to cause it to commit collective suicide, due to its irreversible madnesses becoming too self-destructive.

Everyday for thirty years, I have been working on attempting to do something about that in the Canadian context, including having two long court cases against the Canadian government over the laws that control the funding of the political processes, and I currently continue to work on that project through Electoral District Associations. However, after discussing these issues face to face with tens of thousands of different people, from all walks of life, for a few decades, I have been forced to come to the conclusion that there is no reasonable hope whatsoever. Indeed, the kinds of social facts revealed by the public opinion poll in this article are typical regarding every other issue that one examines:

"Democracy is the art of running the circus from the monkey cage." -- H.L. Mencken

Anyone who has seriously attempted to discuss the monetary and taxation systems with the general public discovers that, IN FACT, they are abysmally ignorant, and that the vast majority of them want to stay that way. The most successful politicians make no attempt to fix that problem, but rather, their careers are based on skillfully exploiting that situation, by cynically lying to people who want to be lied to. Therefore, no good grounds for any reasonable hopes for the future exist! The currently established systems of debt slavery, inexorably being driven towards worse and worse debt insanities, which will eventually provoke death insanities, have no realistic, politically practical ways to actually fix. Therefore, I try to maintain some shred of irrational hope, but my most realistic conclusions are the same as yours, Tall Tom: "It is a fucking non stop nightmare."

Isn't it insane when the rational are labled as the insane?

So what we do is to write the requiem of a dying planet and a dying genotype. Perhaps there will be some that survive the cataclysm and learn from our mistakes.

I have written before, many times, that there are no political solutions. I am certain that you have read it.

I do not place my hope on anything in this World. My only hope lies in the World which is to come, in a Heavenly Realm.

Perhaps I am deluded about that (although my Physics and Math seems to pan out on that probability). Perhaps you may agree or may disagree but that is how I cope with it.

That is how I can cope with that which I perceive to be an impossible situation, a conundrum, a predicament with only a consequential dismal outcome.

I have enjoyed what you have wrote countless times. I know that you are sincere and that is an admirable quality You are genuine. Keep writing and exposing the truth.

One of the simplest things to understand is geography or how to read a map. Which leads me to think these people have very little elementary knowledge of anything else being taught in school. your education dollars at work...

Meaningless Media Presents: Wheel of Fortune

Empires are financial bubbles, normalized. They exploit resources to create artificial scarcity with artificial crises, and they can only be occupied by people stupid enough to accept the proposition of individual blame for system error; everyone is to blame so no one is to blame, except the outsider, so nothing changes, inside the bubble, which the insiders can’t see, until outside.

The Bay Area Homeland Security Factory is the best-in-breed exporter of natural resources, from the surrounding countryside occupied by State 'public works,' to like-minded global cities. The decay emanating from New York, London and all the other global cities is no accident. The Fed is driving it with margin leverage. Facebook has no product; it's all gravity. Keep up with the Jones, chasing rent inflation with wage deflation.

The Germans are not forging contracts with the Russians again by accident either. Now that America is just another two-bit fascist, all the other fascists are actively challenging it. Funny, how community activists become fascists as they rise through the ranks, and/or get shot.

Look at that chart again. It takes 64 arbitrarily bankrupted workers to feed 8 marginal healthcare workers, to feed the likes of WB. It's a vortex, slicing and dicing the middle class, which willingly entered it, buying a mortgage and thereby giving the bank the ability to print money.

Locally, the real estate mafia prints in both directions, by cleaving the asset and leaving the debt behind with the mortgage holder, driving up rents with the resulting cartel control over local markets. With rent consuming nearly all their income, the herd is driven to the global city, fed with sufficient make-work jobs to motor the circuit.

That's the tourism/service economy; work in the city to move to the country, to lose everything, to move back to the city. Keep the critters moving to spin that wheel. At this point, those 64 bankrupt workers all qualify for welfare, which is why the welfare racket is so powerful and paid so little, to consume its own.

Obama and Brown annex the coastline to drive artificial RE demand over supply, the critters scream for joy because RE price inflation grows, and everyone loses purchasing power. Taxes are raised, living costs are ratcheted with leverage, and real estate agency vacuums them up like flies at the end of season.

Public Housing and Real Estate Agency are one and the same, breeding stupidity with real estate inflation, the wealth effect of home ownership. Home ownership is now an illusion, but buy a Bay Area condo today! Of course complying ‘illegal’ aliens in the zone are granted greater entitlement to reproduce. That’s fair employment and housing, making up the rules as it goes along. In a race to the bottom, why would you expect anything else?

Say what you like; Obama leveraged healthcare and pensions to grow the vortex again. You are entitled to enslave everyone else, and the State may tax any estate at any rate it wants to recover any and all arbitrary costs for service. No doubt Hillary will fix this problem, by telling the middle class that it has bankrupted itself, again, by chasing shiny objects with natural resources.

In the 50s and 60s, females got bored and decided they wanted to do the same stupid sh- males did. That’s what happened and what still passes for liberation today. The females want the benefits of males, the males want the benefits of females, the transsexuals are special, and none want the responsibility of rearing their own children. Whether a 25 year die off is better than a 5 year killing spree depends upon your perspective, whether or not you have anything better to do.

The empire is 20 males, controlled by females, backed by armies of females, each followed by a male, and all depending upon a Pavlov reproduction swap ensuring demographic booms and busts, distributed globally. That’s empire domestication. Don’t get in line expecting something other than stupid. Let civil marriage strangle itself.

“State selective service headquarters have announced that local boards will conduct the 4th registration on April 25, 26, and 27, 1942. The age group for this registration is to be 45 to 65 years.”

“Deputy Del Fiorentino, Lieutenant Naulty, Chief Mayberry and Lieutenant Stafori each had direct contact with the suspect…”

As for Alaska, I have been wondering how soon before Putin will point to the Russian rooted population in Alaska, who "need his/their/Russian protection" as a motive to start antagonizing the US(S)A?

He has long been eyeballing that nat resources laiden chunk of land!!! I think he just might make a move in that direction .... IMO.

The so-called black budget of America’s intelligence services, revealed by Edward Snowden, is said to be $52.6 billion (for 2013 alone).

With that kind of money, and there’s absolutely no definitive information on where it goes, our rulers can buy as many false flag operations as they need; they can buy media to be used whenever needed, they can buy politicians to be used whenever needed, and they can buy absolutely the latest scientific advances in surveillance equipment, to be used whenever needed.

John Cartledge writes of the tragic loss of individual freedom in America, that the powers granted to the new federal government were to be limited and not all encompassing, that the Founders' dream was not to be traded away for a Corporatist dream of world hegemony:

“The idea that liberty, in order to be preserved, must be jealously guarded against government encroachment did not originate with the United States Constitution. The 1776 constitution of our very own Commonwealth of Pennsylvania begins with a declaration of "the Inherent Rights of Mankind." Our Pennsylvania constitution formally recognizes that each of us has an "inherent and indefeasible right" to life, liberty and property. We have the right to make changes when government misbehaves, and not just on Election Day, either: The people have "at all times an inalienable and indefeasible right to alter, reform or abolish their government, in such manner as they may think proper." Politely written, but the message is clear. The authors of our state constitution knew that government would be the principal threat to individual liberty. Our 1776 state constitution contains many protections later included in the Bill of Rights, such as the right to a trial by jury, freedom of speech and freedom from unreasonable search and seizure…”

And, now, during the 20th and 21st centuries, all that has been thrown out the window, liberally tossed aside by the US Supreme Court, the US Congress, the US Executive Branch, and the ultimate power, the US (albeit private) Federal Reserve System – tossed aside by Big Brother in favor of an all-encompassing, totalitarian Orwellian State.

Amazing, though, how many can find the U.S. border by following Obama’s free food stamps signs posted along the highways and byways in Mexico – all featuring a big carrot, I presume.

Never mind that the United States is broke—that the American people are $17 trillion in debt and running a deficit of about $1.3 trillion a year.

Obama has decided Mexicans down Mexico way need your tax dollars and use of food stamps more than out-of-work hungry Americans.

But as Jeb Bush says, they’re only coming here out of love and if they’ve broken the law it’s only a misdemeanor. Funny that "love" seems not to translate to the American flag, nor the American people and the culture they created.

This reminds me of a game I used to play back in my travelling days.  I would challenge Americans to name as many US states as they could, and the winner buys the drinks.  Since I'm Canadian, they all figured I'd be easy to beat.

The most anyone got was about 35, the average was around 25.  Interestingly, everyone wrote them down as they came to mind, rather than list alphabetically and then go back to fill in the gaps (my method - knowing how many are in each letter is a big advantage).

Needless to say, I always beat them, then to rub salt in the wound I'd let them off the hook if they could name all ten Canadian provinces.  Most would get about 5 or 6.  No one ever got them all.

Try that yourself and see how many you get.  No peeking now!

Then try it with state capitols....heh.  I guarantee you'll wash out before you get half way.

Most polls that ask Americans state that anywhere from 20-30% believe in the geocentric theory (Sun rotates around the earth) and in general you can always get at least 20% of Americans to positively respond to the most b@tshit crazy ideas.  Amount of Americans who also believe in the literal story of Genesis is really high too (20-50% depending upon how the question is asked).

Just a lot of incredibly ignorant Americans (usually older and usually religious) in the US that is larger that most other industrialized countries.

Count me guilty.  If literal you mean it is recorded in a literary fashion and explains in a rational, coherent and reasonable way that a self-existent being is responsible for my being in an orderly, rational and reasonably comfortable and equipped environment for a period of time of which said being is impervious to, as time itself is nothing more than a creation in that it exists because matter is in motion, then yeah, I’ll subscribe to such a notion.

It makes more sense than my being the result of an infinitesimal, impersonal and nondescript point of singularity containing the entirety of the universe having decided on its own and for no apparent reason to “explode” “into” “being”.  If ever there was nothing, then rationally, there would still be nothing.  Fact is, “nothing” cannot even be fathomed, because it will at that point then become “something”.  A Self-existent Being is the only option that does no violence to reason.

I will concur that the Universe is designed* because the Mathematical Odds are many trillions of times so absurdly** against a Chance Occurence. However the literal understanding of the allegorical story presented in Genesis confounds those whom believe themselves to be "rational".

Of course the ones whom declare that there is no designer and that the Universe is a result of random chance are wagering upon a number so small that it approaches the concept of an infinitesimal. It takes a lot of blind faith to believe that. That faith just smacks of the Religion which they, the atheist, despise and then they totally dismiss the Empirical Evidence.

They refuse to read or understand Roger Penrose, a renowned Cambridge University Physicist, one of the most brilliant minds of the 20th Century.

Your understanding of dimensionality and mass seems wanting. It is not due to motion that time or space exist (as photons are in motion and do not experience time nor space) but it is a direct consequence of Energy being slowed down from Light Speed. Think of the Lorentzian Equations backwards. Instead of approching Light Speed think of Energy leaving Light Speed and slowing.

Imagine yourself as a photon where there is no time and space is non existent in the direction of travel. Then slow down from Light Speed and then the following Loentzian Special Relativistic Definitions manifest. One gains Mass, spatial dimension in the direction of travel and it takes time to transverse that space.

m = mo(1 - v2/c2)-1/2 at v = c, then m is infinite...undefined

t = to(1 - v2/c2)1/2 at v = c, then t = 0 or does not transpire

x = xo(1 - v2/c2)1/2 at v = c then x = 0 or it is non existent.

Now think about this for a Mind Blower...God is the Light and in Him there is no darkness.

This statement demonstrates ominpotence, omnipresence, and omniscience. Because Light travels no distance and it takes absolutely no time to arrive (relative to the Light) then a Light Being can be everywhere at once. Being everywhere at once gives that being knowlege of all that is to happen. And since evrything is energy, because of the Mass-Energy EQUIVALENCE statement, E = mc2, then the Light Being has all power.

And Two Thousand Years ago that definition of God was written by "people" without any knowledge of Special Relativity. Must of been just "Dumb Luck"...

*thus one must infer a Designer

**That implies the utilization of the Engineer's Definition of absurdity, 10-50

Tell you what.

Take 100 pennies, shake them around and toss them on a table. Take all the heads to the side. Take the remaining tails pennies, shake them and around and toss them again. Again put all the heads to the side. Repeat until all your pennies are used up. How many repeats did it need?

You now have 100 pennies where all of them fell heads up. Every single one of them. What is the probability of that happening?

People don't understand probability.

And finally, since you're being recursive. Who created god anyway?

Seven to eight times will be sufficient for your 100 Penny flip..

From Roger Penrose, The Emperor's New Mind, 1989...

This now tells how precise the Creator's aim must have been, namely to an accuracy of one part in 1010123. This is an extraordinary figure. One could not possibly even write the number down in full in the ordinary denary notation: it would be 1 followed by 10123 successive 0's. Even if we were to write a 0 on each separate proton and on each separate neutron in the entire universe- and we could throw in all the other particles for good measure- we should fall far short of writing down the figure needed.

How many times does 1050 divide into 1010123? 10-50 is an ABSURDITY.

Those are the odds of a Chance Manifestation...You are so correct. People do not understand probability...LIKE YOU.

You can choose to deny the Empirical Evidence. Of course it serves to demonstrate your lack of rationality as I postulated in my intial response.

People don't understand probability...

I agree.  Probability or "chance" is a concept without being.  There is no power in the notion; therefore it is an incoherent argument to assign it a characteristic it does not possess.  Chance / probability is only a rational concept with a being able to exercise power to activate it.  Kinda like the initiation of HFTs, they're the product of a rational being, though they may actually be able to execute activities quicker than the creature that thought of and put it into motion.

Wed, 04/09/2014 - 00:52 | 4638256 Boxed Merlot

And by the way, given the concept of eternity, I will concede there exists the "probability" that an existing being may actually even be able to flip all 100 coins in a row and have them all land on their edges consecutively.  The example still is meaningless because it assumes an object and being with power without taking into account the origin of either nor the power wherewith the being exerts to do the flipping.

I repeat, a self-existent being able to create with the power of speaking into being offers a far more satisfying remnant of orbits around the sun than the alternative.

And finally, since you're being recursive. Who created god anyway?...

It's funny you would ask that question with the pronoun "who".  In theological terms I believe the question is considered by contemplating the concept of aseity.  I’ve used the English shorthand “self-existent”, but the term actually goes beyond the surface construction and delves into a further depth and richness of being.

Much like the concept of time being the product of past, present and future, space being height, width and depth, activities consisting of motives, actions and consequences, and matter containing the elements of weight, density and volume, the God of the Mosaic writings has a singular depth of being found in 3 persons too.

Works for me.

1 in 4 Americans Apparently Unaware the Earth Orbits the Sun

...

And the fact that only 74 percent of participants knew that the Earth revolved around the sun is perhaps less alarming than the fact that only 48 percent knew that humans evolved from earlier species of animals.

Here’s the thing, though: Americans actually fared better than Europeans who took similar quizzes — at least when it came to the sun and Earth question. Only 66 percent of European Union residents answered that one correctly.

We won’t know the full results of the survey—or its methodology—until the National Science Foundation delivers its report to President Obama and U.S. lawmakers.

The bigger undelying message

The less they know the more dangerous they are to freedom and liberty in general. That trend should be clear as day and why this country except for a few of us individuals stuck in the middle of this who know better is a real danger to the world right now.

God help us come midterms remember these people vote......

I don't know if there are enough of us to stop this insanity from the inside at this rate. Too many cowards and enablers are clogging the pathways to change. The retards can always be dealt with.

Most Merikans can't place the location of the various US states, or correctly answer how many senators or congressmen, who we fought in WWII or 30% of respondents failed to correctly answer from which nation we gained independence.  That 30% jumps up to 40% when a particular racial group is identified.

Now you see hope and change Barry's real intentions which is revert this country and people from human beings back to nothing more than semi-intelligent animals. Just smart enough to cause problems but not smart enough to know why.

Sort of makes it easy for American Bolsheviks to advance their universal cause, world socialism, via ownership of America’s Left Bank, i.e., Hollywood, bringing up to date Lenin’s outmoded means of “advancing the cause.”

In the old days, Kent State Professor Sidney Jackson, a 40-year Communist activist, promoted the use of libraries and such Red works as “Tasks of Libraries in the Cultural Revolution” by his friend, the Czech Communism library expert, Jaroslav Drtina. According to Jackson’s synopsis, the Drtina article…

…expanded on the twin theme that the cultural revolution was very much a part of political revolution and that any disciple of Lenin’s would grant a leading role in the cultural revolution to books and libraries. (Jackson on Drtina, Sidney Jackson Papers, KSU archives)

It’s about politics and power in the golden land, and it begins with the money.”

It’s a story of “money so big that more of Obama’s 2012 campaign haul came from California than from any other state,’ as Matthew Continetti put it, “contributions from the Los Angeles-Long Beach metro area were behind only those from Washington, D.C., and New York City, and the president has drawn ideas and resources and personnel from Hollywood and Silicon Valley (think Google).”

One Hollywood mogul alone, Jeffrey Katzenberg, in 2012 donated or raised more than $30 million for Obama,

It’s the story of the Democracy Alliance, “a secret, invitation-only organization of liberal moneybags that since its formation in 2005 has directed some $500 million in contributions to progressive groups,” with currency speculator George Soros perhaps its most famous member.

Looks likely nearly 20% of those people are probably figuring that the conflict will end soon because of the Ebola outbreak.  Shit, they could give Alaska back to Russia and 5% of America wouldn't even notice.

Overheard at the gym this morning:

"Hey dude have you been following that Ukraine thing?"

"No, what's that about?"

"Russia invaded Ukraine like 3 weeks ago and we almost went to war with them."

"Seriously dude?"
