An Iowa City With A Population Of 7,000 Will Receive Armored Military Vehicle
Submitted by Mike Krieger of Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,
I’ve covered the militarization of the domestic police force on several occasions on this website. For those of you who need a refresher, I suggest reading the following:
There are Over 50,000 SWAT Team Raids Annually in America
Retired Marine Colonel to New Hampshire City Council: “We’re Building a Domestic Army”
Video of the Day – Thuggish Militarized Police Terrorize and SWAT Team Iowa Family.
Moving along to the subject of today’s absurdity, the tiny city of Washington, Iowa with a population of 7,000 and 11 police officers, will be receiving a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle. Yes, they will be employing one of these in the field:
These things normally cosy $500,000, but will be given to Washington, Iowa for free under a Defense Department program that gives surplus military equipment to domestic law enforcement.
Matthew Byrd writes in the Daily Iowan that:
Sometimes the news is just so drearily awful that you have to sit back and almost appreciate the pure comedy induced by it.
Take this item from Washington, Iowa, where the local police have recently acquired an MRAP vehicle (short for Mine Resistance Ambush Protected) through a Defense Department program that donates excess vehicles originally produced for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to local police departments across the United States, including other Iowa towns such as Mason City and Storm Lake.
The MRAP weighs an impressive 49,000 pounds, stands 10-feet tall, and possesses a whopping six-wheel drive. Originally designed to resist landmines and IEDs, it sure seems like the MRAP will come in handy for the notorious war zone otherwise known as Washington County, Iowa.
If you’re having a bad day, I highly recommend watching a video produced by the Des Moines Register in which Washington police officials try to justify the possession of a vehicle it clearly has no use for. The excuses range from school shootings (which are an actual concern but an MRAP seems like overkill) to a terrorist attack happening in central Iowa (because if there’s any place that seems ripe for a high-profile terrorist attack it’s Washington, Iowa, population 7,000).
As Radley Balko, the author of the book The Rise of the Warrior Cop, an expose of the police militarization of the last decade, found, in 2006 alone the Pentagon, “distributed vehicles worth $15.4 million, aircraft worth $8.9 million, boats worth $6.7 million, weapons worth $1 million and “other” items worth $110.6 million to local police agencies.”
The effects of cops moving from handguns to assault rifles and being equipped with tanks, bazookas, and Kevlar has been twofold. First, civil liberties have absolutely been eroded, with police-brutality rates skyrocketing in last decade according to the Justice Department. Not only that, but, with the influx of military gear into local police forces, cops begin to view themselves as soldiers whose main job is combat rather than keeping the peace. How else can you explain the rise in police shootings since 9/11?
USA! USA! USA!
Keep chanting like idiots until one of these rolls up to your doorstep.

Wait until the local agency has to pay to maintain that thing.
I'm sure they are just -rolling- in tax dollars...
My nephew served in Iraq and he said those things are hideously expensive to maintain! They'll bankrupt themselves trying to keep it running and like most SWAT vehicles, they'll rarely get out of the compound (err, Police Station) and that means they'll detoriate as well.
Hmmm.....pre-positioning assests for when the peasants decide to try to stop paying for the MIC?
Good thing this is an isolated event: http://amestrib.com/news/sheriff-s-office-acquires-mine-resistant-vehicle
Does it run on ethanol? If so Iowa is the perfect place for it.

Im audi 5000...
I saw that on Reno 911 - it was funny, this less so. I wonder what it costs to keep that running for an hour, and if anyone on the force can parallel park it.
Silly you. They park it on top of any vehicle in the parking spot.
No worries. 4-5 big swat boys will go pickup the nearest smart car and tip it over. Problem resolved.
Can you hook up a plow to the trailer hitch?
Washington, Iowa, is obviously a hotbed of terrrrrrrrism.
I guess you've never seen the sheer heartbreak and destruction caused by Amish farmers selling unpasteurized milk and free range chickens..........
Best post of the day award.
Well there's trouble, right here in River City, with a capital T and that rhymes with P and that stands for Police.
Beware Washington, IA residents...there's an old saying that when your only tool is a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail.
Ohhh. I see a South Park script coming out of this.
Terriss speeders
Terriss jaywalkers
Terriss shoplifters
Need surplus M-1 Abrams to keep the homeland safe. Nothing says freeze motherfucker quite like a 120mm smothebore.
Fags (I think that'll work)
Thank god America is nowhere near bankrupt and can afford such things.
These things normally cosy $500,000, but will be given to Washington, Iowa for free under a Defense Department program that gives surplus military equipment to domestic law enforcement.
Spungo, it is free! Our gift to you! No questions asked...no salesman will visit......
And I wonder how the residents of that town will feel about paying for the upkeep and gasoline for that thing.
Nobody is asking them.
If they're lucky, their property taxes will be hiked up to 3.5% of the appraised value so the mayor can buy four more of these Babies...shwo the neighboring villages who is Boss!.
The seller through in 2 dozen Shitgums ... the PD couldn't resist that deal.
No one ever mentions the maintenance costs. Are there local mechanics that can work on this thing? The tires are special run flat something or others. Does a truck tire shop know how to replace them? MPG? Are parts still being made?
if you print it, we will spend it.
Must be a local Tea Party Chapter they want to intimidate.
or provoke...
Provocation. This is, in my view, is a significant risk in the tinderbox that is the US right now.
Always. Be. Prepared.
video game vs reality blur.
Hopefully Uncle Sam won't be capmping out where the residents respawn.
Fortunatly, those things are fuel hogs and have expensive maintenance requirements. They're also fucking top heavy. We'll see how long PDs run them when they get the bill for actually using them. Oh, and fire suppression system or not, I seriously doubt they're resistant to large mass of thermite wrapped in a piece of cloth and slathered with something sticky, such as axle grease. Get that over either the engine compartment or the driver, and it's game over.
Even easier than thermite, Neil Young wrote about it:
Rust Never Sleeps.

They give you this,
but you pay for that
And once you're gone,
you can never come back
Or some distraction, deception, a shovel and some bait.
Just hide a couple of dead carp somewhere in that thing in July.
pods
LOLOL! There are a ton of carp in the ditches behind my house. All I need is a fishing pole and a worm. MRAPS and Bearcats? Meet carp!
Speaking of, I think I may just go fishing this evening. Can't use worms, else the carp will hit, but there are trout in there too. Powerbait and Mepps, and sometimes salmon eggs.
Just juice a sun-ripened carp and pour the liquid into the windshield washer fluid contatiner...
Great idea!!
I still have a bass-o-matic in the garage somewhere....

Quadcopter drone dangling a donut on a string should just about do it...
Just FYI.
polystyrene, finely ground sand, aluminium powder and gasoline, with a kids sparkler for ignition.
The sand provides silicon dioxide, which when mixed with aluminium powder is a very cheap and readily available form of thermite. The polystyrene mixed with gasoline makes a very sticky napalm type substance, Create a mix of the 4 ingredients which is sticky and mostly solid, The thermite needs to hit 1500°C to ignite so gasoline alone won't do it. It will light a sparkler though and that will ignite thermite.
Wonder how the taxpayers of Washington, Iowa are going to like the costs of running, repairing and maintaining that sucker?
The US tax payer has already paid 500,000 for it.
Running costs are on top.
Its all about the replacement parts for the defence contractor
Military contracts...the gift that keeps on giving.
I feel safer already.
Me too...I don't live in Washington, IA.
I don't. I live near Albuquerque. In my neck of the woods, it would be APD running around in one of those things. Seriously not cool.
guess i'll be crossing Washington, Iowa off my list of summer vacation destinations, damn, i was so looking forward to that trip.
Look, it's simple. Eventually whoever is driving the things has to come out.
Does it used filtered air? Is it insulated? Where is the fuel tank?
I doubt that the bridges of Madison County are wide enough for that thing.
So where else would you put an overbuilt useless piece of equipment. Ah yes, Washington. Makes sense now.
I wouldn't worry about the width as much as the weight: 49,000 lbs- the weight of roughly 11 Cadillac Escalades. A fully-loaded 18 wheeler maxes out at 80,000 (without special permit).
Perfect for possible sinkhole inspections.
I wouldn't worry about the width as much as the weight.
Famous words spoken to Barry Soetero on his wedding night.

haha... Bet the police chief wears 4-stars on her collar, 5 rows of battle ribbons on her chest and an ivory handled .45 in her holster .
That Hero has got an ear necklace from that time he caught that tour group from the local nursing home jaywalking, too. And probably an aluminum eyed 1000 yard stare to match. A real Killer. All you civilians, you better beware.
So riddle me this: Just how long do you think it will take for all those bubble ass barny fife's to "donate" their fancy mrap and gear to The Cause when the shit gets real?
You really think they're going to hold the line, when the Sheriff, a-la Col. Travis draws the line in the sand? Those fucking vehicles and gear belong to The Lunatic Fringe. We just haven't been by to collect them yet.
A $500,000 truck is SURPLUS? FUCK you, D.C. Fuck. You.
Nice job CONgress person. Way to lobby for the free shit.
Must have a lot of meth labs and armed weapons dealers in that little town.
Wonder how many Detroit will get. I mean heck, they don't have to pay for them.
First they will jerk off on it, then it will hold empty and half filled coffee containers.
Shoot at it with a .22LR and see how they respond. EVERYBODY IN THE MRAP! We'll drive around until we figure out where those random shots are coming from!
Some little town in Alaska has one security camer for every citizen. God Bless America
I wonder if they have to get a tag and inspection sticker for it.
Gotta protect people from the evil Russkie BEARS.
I noticed that every red light pole around here is getting cameras lately. WTF? How can they actually monitor this many cameras?
computer algorhthms...
Yes. Given the amount of storage memory devloped over the past 15 years, and the amount of money invested in facial recognition software, they don't need human eyes to identify people. They can now also identify license plates, too. Completing the array are motion, heat and light sensors. A lot of what you will see was tested at outposts in Iraq during our last scrimmage game.
You are going to be very surprised at first. Then people will relaize that at the core of all this technology is a human mind. The weak spot for all of this bullshit. The alpha and omega.
If shit gets real, remember, those cameras are defenseless. No need to waste ammo. Just take a sledge to the things.
That's one way to protect the public taking parasites pensions.
I hear Chinese-made RPGs are cheap and plentiful.
not here in the US ... at least not yet.
yeah, and our fucking pipeline dealer for them, Cali. Senator Yee, up and got his dumb ass busted out. Now we're gonna have to buy straps, gats n-shit from the Zetas and those prix charge markup fees!
Wonder if they come with these kits.

Where are the other two wheels? Was it parked in detroit for a while before being sent to Iowa?
Might work great in a dry Afghan desert, let's see how well it will do with that weight in a rain soaked Iowa field....
Yeah, it will be fun to see what happens if it gets off into a mud pit. Or if they wanted to use in an area where there is some nice rock crawling to be done.
You gotta be shitting me. The town is smaller than 5 sq miles in area.
Drive that thing in front of Section 8 housing and there's a 99% chance people will shoot at it. Just look at it. It's armored for a reason - you're supposed to shoot at it.
I thought we were leaving all our 'surplus' military equipment in Iraq and Afghanistan 'cause it cost too much to ship home?
Was this one of those that never made it overseas?
Total f'in waste. Gotta keep the military-industrial complex runnign at full tilt.
They are costly to maintain, too.
Taxpayers don't seem to mind........
Only the taxpayers who don't see what's happening.
However that would be most of 'em.
Obama was elected twice. Your argument is supported!
You boys are looking at this from the wrong end. This is simply a gear donation to the Redneck Legion.
Now you see, don't you!
Some people get it lol.
Apparently there is a patriot or three percenter in the military who found a way to pre position MRAPs for the convenience of future revolutionaries. Lol
I just went to the town of Washington's website to see what was happening in cornville that warranted an armored vehicle: http://www.washingtoniowa.net/
I'm sure it will prove useful in the upcoming cemetary clean-up. Perhaps it will be on the list of authorized decorations.
"***Citizens are reminded to clear their sidewalks of snow and ice within 24 hours after it quits snowing. See ordinance below."
Non-Compliance will be dealt with harshly and immediately! Citizen Jones, our street camera shows you didn't clear the snow. Please prepare for a visit from our Tactical Snow Enforcement Force. Make sure your driveway and front yard are clear of vehicles and pets. When the TSEF pulls up, make sure you are lying face down, with your hands behind your head and your legs spread apart. Do not try to avoid the cavity search, as you may suffer additional injuries.
Awsome when we start offing these fuckers we will use their own shit aginst them.
Not to mention, "our" people on the inside.
You can drive....I call shot gun !
It's expensive to keep a public bus up to code. It probably cost 6 figures just to change the tire on this fucking thing.
tires run flat, besides, they can't afford the gas bill to start and keep it running long 'nuff to get a flat, so all is well... for now.
Safe to asume, the chinese will not be invading Washington IA!!!
Well they need something to catch those damn cow tipping terrorists with.
Does it have supplied air for the people inside? If not, simple gasoline bombs would suffocate everyone inside.
They may have fire suppression systems.
It's got trailer hitches on the back, you can just tie this thing to a few street poles and laugh as it drives in circles.
Is anyone else paying attention to the Clive Bundy rancher situation in Nevada? The Feds are in the process of confiscating his cattle and this seems to be turning into one of those Waco/Ruby Ridge vs the Feds type situations.
These guys are following the story pretty well http://guerillamedianetwork.com/ I also think Adam vs The Man is going to be following it. You can find them both on Facebook as well for updates.
(goes along with this story of the militarization of the police)
I think a lot of people are Very Interested. Thanks for that link man, it's not easy to find much info on this story.
If the Governor had a set of balls, (and understood and upheld the Constitution) he would deploy the National Guard and throw the fucking Feds out.....
It sounds like the local sheriff has a camel toe in his pants, too.
It seems our "representatives" are poor stewards of our Liberty. Whocouldaknowed......??
They must be plannin on going for the gusto soon
Houston has at least two - one painted for S.W.A.T. and the other is tan'ish as in the pic above.
In Canada the police state is also proceeding according to plan.
30 years ago my small, Ontario town had a grand total of 2 police cars, maybe a dozen officers and a smallish police station. Now, I would estimate there are 25 police vehicles of all descriptions, more police officers than I can count and a police station so large that it dwarfs the old one.
At one time it was a rare occurence to be pulled over by the police. Now, it's so common as to hardly rate a mention.
Maybe some of these MRAPS need to start being permanently disabled while they are not in use. Though I suspect the cost of up keep will bankrupt these small little towns first that truely do not need this sort of stuff. That is what your national guard armory is for. By giving these things to Barney Fife's you are undercutting individual states national guard units by arming these local cops. It makes it that much easier for those weapons and items to fall into the wrong hands if things go south. All it takes is one group knowing what they are doing to take out Barney Fife and steal his toys and in turn multiply that into more toys. 5 guns will get you 20 plus ammo if you know what you are doing.
That should take care off their pensions and the bridges budget.
With the supreme court erradicating campaign contribution limitations along with the militarization of our police force it is very clear where we are headed. Now, what are we going to to do about it?
Nothing, that's what were going to do.
Just wait until little Iowa Washington gets the bill for the maintenance for this war pig. They'll send it back pronto.
Maybe you can bend over and get MRAPed?
Must have a hell of a stack of papers in Washington, IA that needs to be kept from flying around.
To my countrymen:
The US Federal government is preparing to make war on you and your family.
What are you doing about it?
Writing Facebook messages, about the upcomming summer vacation, to be charged on "MasterExpress", what else? How else can Uncle Sammy can profile us?
Donate it to that Will It Blend guy
The University of Iowa and Iowa City Army ROTC and that thing will make a good skit for the animal house sequel.
Police are here to serve and/or kill you.
Their here to serve you a billion hollow points the DHLS purchased for civilian target practice.
They'll need a billion rounds if they shoot like the NYPD.
Hell, they'd need a billion rounds if they shot like APD, and those guys are competent with their firearms.
NYPD could not scratch the paint off that with an anti-aircraft missle from across the street.
Now you are running out off money to lock people up. police will be used to garner fines. Then when the money runs out, they will release those prisoners all at once. Which will be nice.
.
That's precisely the kind of inflammatory contribution that I would expect of A Lunatic.
Does the motor pool have a lift that can handle it? Or mechanics trained to fix it? It'll be impressive in the 4th of July parade, but unless the 7,000 residents of Washington, Iowa are infected with some kind of bio-terror agent that makes them turn into atavistic, flesh-eating superhuman psychopaths just as a trainload of ordnance breaks down nearby I think Crown Vics and Glocks fit the bill just fine.
I was a tiny tot in Iowa City where my mother was getting her MFA in the early '60s. She had no car, and would often tote me around on the back or her (Raleigh, I believe) bicycle. One day it had rained, the bricks were wet, and we went down. Luckily I was unscathed (no helmet, of course).
If that happens in the coming months in this little town, at least they'll have the appropriate vehicle with which to respond to the 10-17*.
*Negligent mom endangers kid; approach with caution
Amazing how kids managed to live through the early sixties.
Cars had no seatbelts, bicycle helmets hadn't even been thought of.......
http://www.pianoladynancy.com/how_did_we_survive.htm
It's heartwarming to see that small town manners still exist, dispatching one of their SWAT teams would be overkill.
Relax folks, this story is not what it seems. It was bought for $1500. They plan to re-sell it on ebay, and make a nice lil' profit {before that becomes illegal}. Like Cheech & Chong once said: "Things are tough all over".
I was just thinking the same 'ting' ..... 'how long before we see it on ebay'??
The mayor's son/kids will have fun bullying the crap out of the rest of the kids.
UFB ....
it's the continued militarization of America's law enforcement. Like obombya said in the beginning:
http://www.redstate.com/diary/barrypopik/2010/01/12/obamas-civilian-national-security-force-just-as-strong-just-as-well-funded-as-our-military/
But it's not just him. He's only the latest douche bag to play the puppet for the M.I.C.
This has been going on for decades...slow, creeping, tyranny. Dwight D. Eisenhower spoke of it in his farewell address 53 years ago.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y06NSBBRtY
And the problem isn't that technology is bad...but it seems that all technology is developed by or falls into the hands of some evil mother fuckers, and the first things they want to do with it is use it against us. They give us the small stuff that seems to make our lives better in some ways...but behind the scenes they're creating some evil big shit with the purpose to try and wipe the rest of us out with. Or at least to control us and dominate us under their evil and violent tyranny.
Like I always say...these fuckers in control of everything are sociopaths and psychopaths. People are so fixated on zombies these days, but I tell them that zombies aren't real. It's the M.U.T.A.N.T.S. we have to worry about because they're very real and they're fucking insane.

Note the tactic: the ground around the armored vehicle is already soaked with gasoline, so when it tries to ram the crowd, they whip a few molotovs and...as Fred Garvin would say..."flame on, light up the night."
Also, don't forget to mix polystyrene in with the fuel.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USCztScMlkw
And know your Sun Tsu; hit & run, don't hang about to get shot.
I have no idea what polystyrene is.
Go get a bunch of Styrofoam cups and melt them into your gasoline. It makes for a sticky long burning cocktail. Shoot it out of a three man giant sling shot.
Really? Joe Sixpack has sunk that far?
css
Good recommendation. However, in your vidoes the bus just drove away. Lame!
In mine, the thugs burned. Better!
Long gas cans and beer bottles!
Too insane for rational comment!
What a fucking discrace this is ..... The troops in Iraq, fought and lost life and limbs, in virtually civilian format Humvees, until the dickheads in DC finally got their shit together and this became reality, but by then, the real fighting was all over. Now, The fucking Meter Maid in Bumfuck Iowa, is well protected by this fucking monstruosity.
Did not see it mentioned: did they throw in a gas station into the deal, or they will be raising RE taxes at the next meeting so to feed that pig???
Just when we thought we saw it all .... along comes another pearl. On the other hand, it was not left behind, like the idiots did with $6bln (?) in ammo left to the friendly folks in Afghanistan. ..........[slaps forehad in disgust].
I hope your mostgage and/or car pmts are up to date in Wash. IA, or else this pig will be rolling in your front yard .....
PS Instead of Iowa, this fucker should have been donated to any one of the border towns being over-ran by "undocumented"!!! But I guess it would have made too dam much sense.
Being from Iowa, I'm guessing this is a piece of the payback for Gov. Branstad's work on getting the Obamacare exchange implemented, along with his work on getting other programs (Common Core is the most recent one) through. Getting the libertarian Republicans thrown out of his party leadership is also a "plus," since we took the party from the neocons in 2012.
It's for intimidation. Gets hot in Iowa in the summertime.
.
The cattle?
The corn. Gotta keep the corn from getting uppity. Damn corn.
LOL, but in reality...
1) There are more guns than people in Iowa. Even my libtard friends have AKs.
2) There's a pretty strong drug trade. Don't wander into abandoned houses.
3) Some of the kids get wild. In Ames, there was an incident where the cops tried to bust up a rave, but the ravers beat a cop and tased him with his own taser. Now, no matter how small the incident is, it's either full riot gear or guns drawn.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jD91hm57y_U
Note that the cop was told to back off the chase. Ames cops are notoriously excessive.

RIP Harold Ramis.
The Nazis in Ukraine showed us how to burn those fuckers up with molotov cocktails.
It sure will make the 4th of July parade in Washingtion pretty cool this year....a new entrant...I bet the cops have new uniforms for it and specialized training patches....real auto guns...power baby.....no more sneeking a kid in the trunk at the drive in....this will show up and blast you to hell..could be good for opening day of Pheasant hunting....with all the old 80 year olds out there shooting their shotguns off...
1033 program National Defense Authorization Act all the was back to 1997 has provided local municipalities with 165 MRAPs with outstanding requests for 731 more as of December 2013. $4.2 billion dollars worth of military equipment has been doled out to municipal police forces and rapidly prolifetating SWAT teams in rural areas. Department of Defense and Homeland Security are the only two unaudited government agencies.
It's paid for with our tax dollars. Might as well claim ownership - one day when SHTF.
"Defense Department program that gives surplus military equipment to domestic law enforcement."
Yea right. It's surplus, uh-huh. Makes me wonder what they are gonna do with all that "surplus" ammo also.
Here's how surplus works:
1) Estimate that you actually need 5 MRAPs for an operation.
2) Bump the number up to 50 just to be on the safe side.
3) Collect 5% customer appreciation fee on the other 45.
4) PROFIT! (No ??? meme on this one!)
