White House Admits CIA Director Brennan Was "Secretly" In Kiev

Tyler Durden's picture

Late last night we asked if, as the Russian media had reported and only the Russian media, CIA director John Brennan had secretly visited Kiev over the weekend: "Brennan landed in Ukraine on Saturday under an assumed name and held a "series of secret meetings" with the country's "power bloc" Interfax reported, citing an unidentified official in the Ukrainian parliament.  The person who said this to Interfax in a phone talk added that John Brennan came to Ukraine not under his real name.  According to some yet unconfirmed information, the decision to suppress protesters in Slavyansk, a city in Ukraine's east, with force was advised to Ukraine's authorities by Brennan."

One can further admit the meeting was "secret" - if only in initial intent - not only because of Brennan's assumed fake name (why the secrecy?) but because until Russian Interfax- of all places - had reported about what is certainly a key meeting in a nation in which disinformation and counterpropganda is not only rife but the last thread the current Kiev regime is hanging by - Brennan's meeting was completely unmentioned by the US press.

Until today, when moments ago White House speaker Jay Carner confirmed that indeed the CIA director was in Kiev last weekend.

From Reuters:

"We don't normally comment on the CIA director's travel but given the extraordinary circumstances in this case and the false claims being leveled by the Russians at the CIA we can confirm that the director was in Kiev as part of a trip to Europe," White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters.

According to media reports, Russia has urged Washington to explain what Brennan was doing in Ukraine.

"Senior level visits of intelligence officials are a standard means of fostering mutually beneficial security cooperation including U.S.-Russian intelligence collaboration going back to the beginnings of the post-Cold War era," Carney said.

"U.S. and Russian intelligence officials have met over the years. To imply that U.S. officials meeting with their counterparts is anything other than in the same spirit is absurd," he said

You know what's absurd? Iraqi weapons of mass destruction. Or YouTube clips "proving" an Assad chemical weapons attack... which was organized and executed by NATO member Turkey with the blessing of rht US. Or the same CIA director showing up in a Kiev hotel under a fake name. Or for Interfax to have more credibility than US media outlets.

You know what isn't absurd? Speculation that just like the CIA organized the overthrow of the Yanukovich regime, which has been confirmed courtesy of the Russian secret services leaking Victoria Nuland's very inconveient recording, so the recent escalation in east Ukraine is indeed the work of the CIA.

You know what won't be abusrd? If and when the Russians release another recording, this time of Brennan, proving that all the latest "Russian" propaganda is once again in fact, fact.

Ahhh...the classic Fallacy of Composition at work.

Classic reductionist calculus:  USA backs bad actors and does bad things on occasion. Therefore all actions of the USA are bad and all those supported by the USA are bad.

Hey man

He didn't say the Russians are angels. You're putting words in his mouth.

But in this particular case, the U.S. started this shit, and is now bungling its way through it with stupendous hypocrisy, as Tinky pointed correctly out.

The Russian foreign policy track record of the last 10-12 years looks positively squeaky clean when compared to that of the U.S. over the same time period...it's like an endless stream of lies, double standards, overt invasions, non-invasion invasions, coup d'etats, sponsored revolutions, and general bullshit

Russia is about to take a bite out of a big shit sandwich and set their foreign policy track record back 30 - 40 years.  With that goes investment, jobs, markets.  East Ukraine is worth all that?  Russia may be forced to give up east Russia to the Chinese.  They may be forced to give up influence in White Russia to Germany.

Clean?  You have no clue.

'cause Fox never covered their little war in Chechnya or Georgia or their little games of oppression on their own people and democratic institutions...on their manipulation is Ukraine leading up to the crisis it is in now...and what of the adopted re-emergence of the Russian Orthodox Church cartel into political institutions and power...just off the top of my head.  Religion and State, does that sound like a recipe for hypocrisy and fascism? It should.

If this shit were happening here in the USA with the level of brutality that Russia conducts in secret it would make Abu Graihb look like after-school detention.

Freedom of press...forget it!  Absolute power?  Yes!  Will that end well?  NO!

Is this regime above poisoning their opponents?  Hell no.  Do they respect the rule of law?  Hell no!

My strong suspicion is that Putin is a admirer of both the actions of Stalin and Hitler and that he is trying to succeed by using their play book.

But why truncate the timeline to the period of the last 10 years?  The correct period would be over the rise of The Little Napoleon...he is a dictator now so the record/buck stops with him!

Yanukovich stole BILLIONS from the Ukrainian people.  You treat that fact as irrelevant.  It's important for the rest of the world to step in and help Ukraine move in a sensible, responsible, democratic direction.  That being said, Russia does not want this.  Russia's economy is linked to the global economy is so many ways that they cannot break.  Over time, Russia will be subdued by what is going on in the Ukraine.

Russia has a strong hand, for the moment.  There will come a time for them to play their cards and go for broke.  I look to the Germans and Chinese to moderate the Russian stance, to pull them back from the precipice.

When that is all said and done, Yanukovich should be drawn and quartered.

Bro, the Germans would like nothing more than for the E.U. to fall apart from Russia turning off the gas. China is loving this whole incident because now they can sign fully leveraged trade agreements with Russia and because of Russia wanting to end western reliance the Chinese can bring India into the mix in these trade agreements. The Russians dont need us anymore, there are more than a billion more people in those three countries alone than in all of the NATO countries combined. The future belongs to RussiaIndiaChina. Face it, the west doesnt have the balls to have five children per couple anymore, we have turned into a hoard of content, lazy, selfish assholes who think we are entitled because one generation of people in the 40s had the balls to win. Here is something you may not have heard, most of that generation is dead and now we have lady gaga and miley cyrus. We are f*cked and so is pussy riot.

Now we are talking about the game within the "game".  I don't agree about Russia not needing us now.  They cannot fight on all fronts.  They are looking for low hanging fruit in the Ukraine.  They are leaving the gate open and will soon have new roommates.

David Goldman talks about demographics.  Russia is slowly turning things around.  They don't need a war and pestilence for a few acres of land that can't bring them much.

Mon, 04/14/2014 - 17:12 | 4658321 Charles The Ham...
Charles The Hammer Martel's picture

I'm not so much worried about demographics as I am about actual economies of scale. The Ukraine is broke because of the Western region, the Eastern region dominated by ethnic Russians is filled with all sorts of industry that can be quite profitable if exploited correctly which it has not been under Yanukovich. It is true the Russians do not need to entangle themselves in a war backed by a country like the U.S. that pays its soldiers with monopoly money and the only reason the soldiers are okay with it is because they are too stupid to know what the real "game" actually is. (when I say soldiers I also include the CIA and our secret mercenary army as well). The only reason the E.U. is interested in the Ukraine in the first place is because it feels that adding more territory with potential natural resource capability and cheap labor could benefit them long term. In the short term the Germans will foot the bill along with the U.S. through the IMF (hence the Democrats trying to fatten our load there). The whole end game here is this game of musical chairs, except there is only one chair and the person with the best fiscal situation gets to stand next to the chair when the music stops. That would be Russia.

Mon, 04/14/2014 - 17:25 | 4658350 Canucklehead
Canucklehead's picture

Russia would be in a strong position, when the music stops, "IF" they don't invade eastern Ukraine.  Eastern Ukraine is not worth the price Russia will pay.  Once they cross that line, expect all kinds of problems dealing with other nations.  Russia can't fight everyone.  They need to pick their fights.  They got Crimea back.  If I were them, I'd call it a day as they clearly have a seat at the table.  Going for more will mean trade-offs...

Mon, 04/14/2014 - 17:50 | 4658440 Charles The Ham...
Charles The Hammer Martel's picture

Everyone keeps talking about "costs" and "prices" for Russia if they invade anything. 1.) A referendum in those areas to secede from Ukraine and peacefully re join Russia is not an invasion. 2.) Instead of the Eastern region being neglected and forgotten by the E.U. as they have done to all of the other eastern european countries they have assimilated into their collective, the East would be making a strategic decision to join with their direct neighbor and can move freely throughout Russia to compete for other opportunities. 3.) This competition for the extra labor from Ukraine will spur economic growth for Russia, not "extra costs". I just dont see any negatives here. When they leave the Ukraine for Russia they will be leaving behind all of their obligations to that country. It would be very similar to emerging from a bankruptcy discharge except it wont go on their credit report for ten years. There literally are zero negative consequences for leaving the Ukraine to join with Russia, I cannot think of one single negative consequence. Russia is no longer the Soviet Union and never again will be after the tremendous wealth explosion they have seen under the Russian Federation. It is a win win win for everyone even the U.S. but our incompentent president would rather Russia not be so strong because they dont like to compete, they would rather cheat and keep printing money and never have to be accountable for their fatal fiscal strategy for the last 5 years. Dont get me wrong, I think America is still a great nation, but it is a nation that has made some serious errors in the last 30 years and we will be made to account for those errors in one way or another, it is inevitable at this point.

Leaving obligations means someone else has up pick up tab. I realize you are cold-hearted but that is understandable, given what you have been through.

It's too bad the Russians couldn't go old school and live to live. A little common courtesy would go a long way here. Unfortunately it is seem by most Russians as a sign of weakness.

Arrogance and hypocrisy, writ large. I suppose you're into the theology of American exceptionalism too.

The idea about removing all Russians from Ukraine rather than letting them break off from Ukraine is interesting. The whole 'exceptionalism' of modern America at the moment can be explained by a one-time windfall event, World War 2, where it inherited the world as booty - the reserve currency, an empire of military bases, the only functioning industry that wasn't totally destroyed, the German rocket program, most of the world's best scientists, etc. This doesn't mean that Americans or the American way of doing things are supremely the best at all.

By the way exceptionalism is not about being exceptional as compared to other countries at some given moment; it's the idea that America is exceptional across time, across the past and future span of human history.

For example I've had coworkers tell me that America is literally the pinnacle of all civilization and there will never be anything to surpass it because America is just that special...because they invented freedom, Goddammit...and that's why it's exceptional and can do no wrong. And even if it does wrong, it's for a good purpose. These are pretty much the exact words that I've heard fall from the mouths of people I know here, all of them college educated.

In their time, the British believed they were exceptional, before them it was the Spaniards, and there are other examples.

I still contend that the Exceptionalistas are dangerously misguided. They think that the windfall booty of wealth and power that their grandparents brought home after WW2 is something permanent.

Mon, 04/14/2014 - 17:37 | 4658394 Canucklehead
Canucklehead's picture

Be realistic.

The American way of doing things is supremely the best at all.  Look at the comparison metrics.  Every developing nation emulates the American lifestyle, or phsyically attacks it.  It is overpowering because it is the lifestyle of the world.  Everyone wants a piece of that action.  They want to be as fun as Americans: as wealthy as Americans; as honorable as Americans.

... As honorable as Americans?

Look at the Clive Bundy situation.  Look at the Ukraine situation (with all it's detriments).  Look at the Gay Issues (marriage and mafia).  How can it be that a group of 300+ million people can get their heads around these complex issues and chart a course of action that provides ham-fisted leadership on such short notice?  Perfection is the enemy of good enough.  Given time, America will correct their mistakes.

Give me some comparative examples and we can talk.

A.) You are a college freshman at a half rate Canadian college taking your first Econ 101 class and failing miserably because your government has brainwashed you all of these years into thinking everything is right with the world and wikipedia is always right.

B.) O.F.A is paying you to post here

At the recent UN meeting on Ukraine, the US representitve alluded to Youtube as proof of evil Russian intent. Citing the videos, the US talking puppet said that the video proved Russia had sent agents. We all can see the men in military uniforms and these are Russia agents. Well, the bitch needs to take afew trip to the Eastern European former Soviet nations. Military gears is standard wear for many people, especially small town and rural. Most males are veterans of manditory 2 years in the military. AK's and uniforms are as common as dirt. But of course the bitch knows this, she spouts lies as written be the zio-noecon masters of Washington DC, a city not America's capital, but a world center of some insane zio-neocon imperial dream, directed mostly by the great centers of Finance Capital. London, New York, Brussels and other EU banking centers.

Obviously the Kiev government is not legal, they burned and shot their way to power, with paid protestors earning 40-50 Euro a day for thugs, much, much higher for commanders. Nobody disputes this, not even the rioters who flaunted their high pay and family supporting wage paid by the USA and EU. But they were not foreign agents, just working for a foreign corporation, i.e the CIA. As their boss' recent visit highlights. The western media has been so co opted by the CIA and Banker led think tanks of Washington, that the lies beggar discription. Nazi tactics by the former free country of America, that is long since over. The Finance boys, and we know fuck all who they are, are using their unlimited power to direct the Imperial Forces to do their work. Of course average Americans think we are freedom spreading again, what bloody fools, ignorant and overfed dupes. I have given up awaiting the day they wake up from a McDonals food trance! Ain't gonna happen, give me a Big Mac with extra sauce and cheese.

The Secret Team is at work not only in Ukraine but all across Russia's western border. This is nothing new. It has been going on for decades, yet is ignored by the propaganda rags as a causal factor for the current destabilization we are seeing.

On another note, this is a very convenient time for Russia to get caught up in a border skirmish. If I remember correctly, Israel has set a tentative plan to strike Iran this year. Maybe they'll just wait until Russia is bogged down in Ukraine to launch their strikes.

So this is why Brennan made his big visit?...  If I were Russia I'd call it a day!

Time to make the big pivotal announcement that their embassies across the Anglo-Israeli-American front will be closed for business with expulsions of all the dips from these host Countries in Moscow.

The "olive branch" if it still remains at this stage will come in the form of preserving embassies and consulates with select EU members... I think Germany is the only one of true importance left in the Union the rest will follow Brussels and the EU like the trained lapdogs they are.

If the Germans and the remnants of the NATO aligned Eastern border patrol don't manage to stop Washington and Israel it it's very likely we'll end up having a war.

Merkel sealed the fate of Germany when she cancelled all nuclear deals after Kyoto. I'm not a fan of nuclear energy but what difference does or doesn't nuclear energy in Germany make when France's energy supply is 50% nuclear? Check a map. Germany's aluminum smelters take massive amounts of energy. They closed the profitable black coal mines and are now importing coal at higher prices and then her government collapsed to the green lobby. We all know who is funding this green movement.

Taking all US and EU actions into account, I have concluded they are intent on war. A rational look at what they have done and are doing leads to the conclusion that they are hell bent on pushing this into open conflict. Why is the only question remaining. Many believe that the failed Euro empire is falling apart, and we all know the USA lives off of the world reserve currency and pays for little more than half of all expenditures, plus record debt at all levels. This can not go on, war seems to be their answer. Marc Faber was 100% correct. "They will print and print and print. Then they will go to war." Asked with whom he responded. "America can always find someone to go to war with." Marc nailed it, as recent events seems to bear out.

I respectfully disagree.  Obama and his crowd simply are unable to conduct a war, especially one of this weight.   Their MO is to destabilize regions.  They destroyed Libya and Syria this way.   They don't give a rat's ass about the people of the Ukraine (who are NOT all nazi thugs while the russians are little sweethearts, I am tiring of that meme).   The Soros/Brzenski mafia will be just as pleased to sink the Ukraine into a never ending civil war/family feud like exists in Lebanon.  That means the Russians will have a sore on their flank for years.  In fact, that's pretty much playing out right now.

Every US president since (and including) Reagan was a poser, and they all had handlers usually from well before they entered politics.

The same will be said of every US president that follows Obozo.

This is reality at the end of the Empire. All other empires from before were the same. This end-game script was written by the Hittites, probably, and it's worked so well humans haven’t bothered coming up with another way to destroy the future of a once-great nation.

I'm relieved that the President has at least sent the CIA director.  Now he should be prepared to send in several dozen advanced fighters and NATO military units.

Hopefully the Ukrainians are mobilizing and have assembled several hundred dirty bombs for use on Russian cities should the Little Napoleon order his thugs to make further incursions into the Ukraine.

Regarding Crimea, how many cities in Russia should be made uninhabitable for thousands of years will be determined over the next few weeks by the Ukrainian people.  Russia will pay a heavy price for letting the "little guy" drive this bus.

There are very few military men who want to fight...on ANY side. The vast majority of military personnel hate war.

So go autofellate because you are spineless and capable of sucking your own penis.

So stop behaving like a God Damned pissmeyer and...and grow a spine because your bullshit bravado just does not sell here well.

Let's go hunting. My name is Thomas O'Brien. My address is 12223B Woodside Ave, Lakeside, CA, USA. What is yours?

Or do you like hiding under a psuedonym?

Let's go hunting. I am an easy target.
