Is The US Military Preparing For The Collapse Of The Dollar?

Tyler Durden's picture

It almost happened in 2008... but as this excerpt from Casey Research's Meltdown America documentary notes, it appears the US military is preparing for the potential collapse of the US dollar. As Scott Taylor warns, "...if the carrot (of credit worthiness) is fading, and the stick (of military threat) is weak, that empire is going to come down in a hurry..." which leaves a serial economic mis-manager only one option to 'secure' the empire.

To see what the consequences of economic mismanagement can be, and how stealthily disaster can creep up on you, watch the 30-minute documentary, Meltdown America. Witness the harrowing tales of three ordinary people who lived through a crisis, and how their experiences warn of the turmoil that could soon reach the US. Click here to watch it now.

Casey Research should keep in mind that the USD collapse would send the Euro, Yen, GBP, CDN, SEK and CHF to the moon.

The USD index current sits near 80.  The 2008 Low was 71.33.  That's a long way to go.  The Euro, well off its highs, is looking pretty bearish.

You know, it's amazing how many people are waiting and WANTING for the US economy to collapse and be done with suddenly. I think something very different will happen: an extremely slow and painful decline over a long period of time.

We have historic examples of both a quick collapse (many) and a long gradual collapse (British Empire). Absent big bank leveraged derivatives, I would go with long and slow -- but when the big banks eventually guess wrong they are going to start a chain of defaults that will take out retirement and savings accounts and start global bank runs. The speed will be amazing, so you are either 'ready now' or you aren't.

I agree with the slow grind because the world is in on this whole banking failure or heist. But is still behooves us to get or stay prepared. A years supply of food/water won't break your bank. Having a means to protect oneself is mandatory. Gold and Cash, split it up, then go about your life.

It doesn't matter how much a person in the US prepares for the dollar's collapse. When it finally happens, there will be a massive war and there will be American refugees to foreign nations. It will be chaos.

Two major fundings/finance/bailouts prevented the immediate collapse (by a day or two):

1) Major banks were bailed out and were made non-Mark-to-Market on many loans and mortgages...which continues today.

2) the largest insurance company AIG (which insured banks and industries) was bailed-out and some believe remains somewhat Nationalized (like Freddy and Fannie).

AIG faced the most difficult financial crisis in its history when a series of events unfolded in late 2008. The insurer had sold credit protection through its London unit in the form of credit default swaps (CDSs) on collateralized debt obligations (CDOs) but they had declined in value. The AIG Financial Products division, headed by Joseph Cassano, in London, had entered into credit default swaps to insure $441 billion worth of securities originally rated AAA. Of those securities, $57.8 billion were structured debt securities backed by subprime loans. As a result, AIG’s credit rating was downgraded and it was required to post additional collateral with its trading counter-parties, leading to a liquidity crisis that began on September 16, 2008 and essentially bankrupted all of AIG. The United States Federal Reserve Bank stepped in, announcing the creation of a secured credit facility of up to US$85 billion to prevent the company's collapse, enabling AIG to deliver additional collateral to its credit default swap trading partners. The credit facility was secured by the stock in AIG-owned subsidiaries in the form of warrants for a 79.9% equity stake in the company and the right to suspend dividends to previously issued common and preferred stock. The AIG board accepted the terms of the Federal Reserve rescue package that same day, making it the largest government bailout of a private company in U.S. history.

The U.S. Department of The Treasury in December 2012 published an itemized list of the loans, stock purchases, special purpose vehicles (SPVs) and other investments engaged in with AIG, the amount AIG paid back and the positive return on the loans and investments to the government. Treasury said that it and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York provided a total $182.3 billion to AIG, which paid back a total $205 billion, for a total positive return, or profit, to the government of $22.7 billion. In addition, AIG sold off a number of its own assets to raise money to pay back the government.

If AIG had been wiped out then the leveraged mortgage investments would have wiped out the majority of Wall Street, and then the world markets.

A better question might be which of the four major currencies will collapse first. My quess is the yen and that will open the door for the other three to follow soon after. As people rush to dump the falling currencies inflation could result.

The modern economy that has evolved over the last several decades is loaded with interwoven contracts reeking of contagion. If faith drops in these intangible "promises" and money suddenly flows into tangible goods seeking a safe haven inflation will soar. Never before has mankind diverted such a large percentage of wealth into intangible products or goods.  I contend this is the primary reason that inflation has not raised its ugly head. Details in the article below.

So far tonight we have gold and silver about to break support levels and test their 2013 lows for a third time before collapsing through and plunging to new 4 or 5 year lows and the dollar is tickling the belly of 80 again. No way this collapses any time soon. I think ZH misses the mark by maybe a decade or so.

----

Um, why?

Aren't the biggest buyers and holders of PMs in China, India and Russia? Thus are you saying Western nations are pushing PMs down to punish Eastern nations?

If lower prices come before a rise in prices, wouldn't any buyer benefit from those lower prices? The desperation of the Great Depression was a desperation to raise fiat currency values to settle debts, that put downward pressure on all commodities.

The day everyone can pay their house mortgage in gold or pay their everyday expenses in PMs (or PM backed currency) is the day you'll see PMs rise to the moon. Until then, people still need to raise fiat to actually live life.

Watched a documentary on a kid who dropped out, moved to alaska to live with the bears and to "protect them". Made tons of videos about his work back in 2000 and 2001. Cried over the baby bears half eaten by males wanting to mate again. Went totally delusional thinking he and the bears were at one, bear whisperer if you will. One night video camera recorded sound only of bear breaking into his tent and eating him while girlfriend beat said bear over the head with a skillet. The bear ate her next. There was an audio of the whole thing. Should be required watching for EVERYONE in the U.S. The irony is just perfect. Obama is taking us down the same course not unaware of the potential for disaster, but seriously mentally ill living in a world of words that don't apply to our enemy.

This guy from the 1800s who wrote the following piece would have made a better President than all the clowns who came to the White House starting with LBJ.

But why should I mourn at the untimely fate of my people? Tribe follows tribe, and nation follows nation, like the waves of the sea. It is the order of nature, and regret is useless. Your time of decay may be distant, but it will surely come, for even the White Man whose God walked and talked with him as friend to friend, cannot be exempt from the common destiny. We may be brothers after all. We will see.

We will ponder your proposition and when we decide we will let you know. But should we accept it, I here and now make this condition that we will not be denied the privilege without molestation of visiting at any time the tombs of our ancestors, friends, and children. Every part of this soil is sacred in the estimation of my people. Every hillside, every valley, every plain and grove, has been hallowed by some sad or happy event in days long vanished. Even the rocks, which seem to be dumb and dead as the swelter in the sun along the silent shore, thrill with memories of stirring events connected with the lives of my people, and the very dust upon which you now stand responds more lovingly to their footsteps than yours, because it is rich with the blood of our ancestors, and our bare feet are conscious of the sympathetic touch. Our departed braves, fond mothers, glad, happy hearted maidens, and even the little children who lived here and rejoiced here for a brief season, will love these somber solitudes and at eventide they greet shadowy returning spirits.

And when the last Red Man shall have perished, and the memory of my tribe shall have become a myth among the White Men, these shores will swarm with the invisible dead of my tribe, and when your children's children think themselves alone in the field, the store, the shop, upon the highway, or in the silence of the pathless woods, they will not be alone. In all the earth there is no place dedicated to solitude. At night when the streets of your cities and villages are silent and you think them deserted, they will throng with the returning hosts that once filled them and still love this beautiful land. The White Man will never be alone.
