US Government Starts Cracking Down On Bath Salts

Tyler Durden's picture

It is unclear if the most recent crackdown on synthetic drugs was prompted by today's Yellen testimony, but according to AP, the US government - seemingly in desperate need to find new things to spend money on - has decided to take its vendetta with sellers of drugs, just synthetic drugs, personal, and starting this morning, "broadened its national crackdown on synthetic drug manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers as federal agents served hundreds of search and arrest warrants in at least 25 states.... The DEA has been cracking down on synthetic drugs, including so-called bath salts, spice and Molly."

From AP:

Agents served warrants at homes, warehouses and smoke shops beginning early morning, DEA spokesman Rusty Payne said. The largest single operation was a statewide effort in Alabama. Agents also were active in Florida and New Mexico, among other states.

The DEA has been cracking down on synthetic drugs, including so-called bath salts, spice and Molly, since the drugs first gained widespread popularity years ago.

In late 2010, the agency responsible for enforcing federal drug laws moved to ban five chemicals used to make synthetic marijuana blends, including K2, Spice and Blaze. Since then, drug manufacturers have continued to modify their formulas and develop new chemical mixtures.

No Heisenberg here, this time it's the Chinese' fault:

Ferdinand Large, staff coordinator for DEA's Special Operations Division, said the agency is now broadly focused on Chinese chemical manufacturers and the distributors, wholesalers and retailers in the United States. There is also growing concern about where the money is going.

Well, not just the Chinese: all the usual suspects which will soon be liberated from their oil, too:

Investigators have tracked hundreds of millions of dollars in drug proceeds being sent to Yemen, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan, Large said.

"The money is going there, where it stops we don't know," Large said. Large said it's also unclear which criminal organizations may be profiting from the drug proceeds.

U.S. authorities long have worried about criminal and terrorist groups in the Middle East using drug trafficking to fund illicit activities.

Perhaps it is time to invade the Middle East then? Start with Syria of course.

In a November 2013 report on transnational organized crime, DEA Administrator Michele Leonhart said "drug trafficking organizations and terror networks are joined at the hip in many parts of the world.

"DEA must relentlessly purse these dangerous individuals and criminal groups that attempt to use drug trafficking profits to fuel and fund terror networks, such as Hezbollah," Leonhart said.

Payne said Wednesday's crackdown was focused strictly on U.S. targets and involved 66 DEA cases, seven investigations led by Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agents and several others led by Customs and Border Protection that focused on express consignment shipments.

And so on: the good news here is that Q2 GDP will be boosted by several billion to fund this latest initiative.

Of course, that this is happening as the government is expanding its legalization of non-synthetic drugs like marijuana first in various states, and soon, at the Federal level, makes one wonder just who is the financially interested party behind the pot lobby and how much money are they making by getting progressively more of America stoned while making the government crack down on their offshore competitors.

Legally, of course.

Kratom is still under the radar AFAIK. When enough people start using it, they'll ban it like Thailand still does. Thailand banned it because people were using it to taper down from heroin use and it was apparently effective at that. This cut into the heroin profits and that's why they banned it.

Once upon a time, a high school freshman won first prize at an Idaho science fair after he urged people to sign a petition demanding strict control or complete elimination of the chemical "dihydrogen monoxide."

The student reminded potential signers that dihydrogen monoxide can cause excessive sweating and vomiting, is a major component in acid rain, can cause severe burns in its gaseous state, contributes to erosion, decreases the effectiveness of automobile brakes and has been found in tumors of terminal cancer patients.

He asked 50 people if they supported a ban of the chemical. Forty-three said yes, six were undecided and only one knew that the chemical was water.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should with that said it is personal discretion decision not the government. You educate about the dangers and leave it at that. Some people just need to learn through experience and there is no regulating that will stop that nor should the government even try with those folks. The law should be there for when the choices cause bad consequences that affect others beyond one's personal destruction not because of the choice, nothing more.

Follow the money to its SOURCE, to understand the designer "drug wars," and every other example of the debt slavery backed by wars based on deceits. Furthermore, go beyond that SOURCE to understand war in general, which is that human civilization necessarily operates according to the principles and methods of organized crime, because general energy systems are controlled by their most labile components, that flow along their paths of least action.

The "end the drug wars" controlled opposition groups tend to be dominated by mainstream morons, who deliberately refuse to follow the money to its SOURCE (the banksters), and even more deliberately refuse to think more systematically about warfare in general, and why the human murder systems developed in the way that they did, which then were the foundation for how the monetary systems developed. While I usually agree with that they say, I disagree with what they do not say.

It is NOT possible to "end war" and therefore, also impossible to totally end any of its endless variations, although certainly their frequencies could be changed. Ironically, those who most tend to promote their preferred tangential expression of the ideals about how to stop the various insanities manifested in various kinds of "wars" which appear to be "failures," because they are perpetually losing ground, also tend to adamantly refuse to recognize that THERE ARE CHRONIC POLITICAL PROBLEMS INHERENT TO THE NATURE OF LIFE, WHICH MUST BE RESOLVED SOMEHOW. Our current kind of "civilization" has perfected to the highest art form and science controlling itself through systems of maximized deceits and frauds, and furthermore, one will find that pattern repeating and resonating throughout the controlled opposition groups just as much, if not theoretically more so, than through the established groups which are actively prosecuting their preferred wars.

The alternative approach that I recommend is adopting UNITARY MECHANISMS, which are based on accepting that governments are necessarily the biggest forms of organized crime, controlled by the best organized gangs of criminals, because human civilizations are necessarily manifestations of the ways that general energy systems operate.

The first level of deeper analysis of the "drug wars" will discover that they were promoted by the biggest gangsters, the banksters, because they benefit all the way around from every evil thing that they can do to prop up their debt slavery with wars based on deceits. The "drug wars" were always examples of special kinds of "false flag attacks," used to start wars based on deceits, which would enable even greater degrees of debt slavery. The latest examples of designer "drug wars" follow that pattern. Furthermore, the kinds of corporations that grow up around the banksters, such as the pharmaceutical companies, are also adapted to take advantage of the same basic opportunities, such as through their Profit From Disease System, by being able to have legalized cartels that benefit from wiping out their potential competitors.

Since the controlled opposition to the established systems, such as the mainstream morons that dominate the "end the drug war" groups, continue to operate within the biggest bullies' bullshit systems, set up by the banksters and their buddies being able to take control over the political processes, through runaway vicious spirals of increasingly being able to get away with applying the methods of organized crime to dominate those political processes, we always get endlessly amplified absurdities, whereby by the biggest criminals use the excuses of there being other smaller gangs of criminals, which primarily developed because of what the biggest criminals had previously done to enable that, to enable more vicious spirals, to justify and rationalize even greater debt insanities, and death insanities, as was manifested throughout the history of drug prohibitions, which always backfired in special ways that assisted the runaway fascist plutocracy juggernaut to build a bigger fascist police state, which would turn even more people into its road kill.

Since the controlled opposition to the banksters and their buddies tends to NEVER get out of the same frame of reference of bullshit promoted by the banksters' governments, we never get publicly presented any better systematic solutions, which would be based on better death controls, to back up better debt controls. That is, those who oppose warfare tend to never present better ways to wage war, but only continue to promote the impossible ideals that there should not be any war.

The historical processes have selected for successful warfare to have been based on deceits, and that became the foundation for successful economics to be based on frauds. Both of those systems of organized lies, operating robberies, were so successful that almost all of their controlled opposition agrees to stay within the same frame of reference when discussing the problems, and their "solutions."

The "drug wars" were merely more examples of that overall social situation, where the biggest bullies were able to so dominate society with their bullshit that their controlled opposition groups almost totally continues to operate within the same bullshit language that the bullies originally promoted. Therefore, ironically, the controlled opposition groups that call for "ending the drug wars" tend to be typical in their degree of adherence to the false fundamental dichotomies, and related impossible ideals, as the basis for "solutions" that never work, since they would only backfire in the real world. Therefore, the drug wars continue to get worse, faster ...

Indeed, as people like William Shatner, in the TekWar series, popularized the possibilities, one could expect that, as cyborg technology advances, criminalizations of aspects of that will also be developed, to drive more vicious spirals through those means too. One could expect that after some neoprohibitionist regime finally achieves some fake "legalization" of marijuana, the ending of the criminalization of cannabis could have its slack taken up by criminalization of some cyborg technologies. After all, there are more realistic limits to the development of designer drugs, than there are apparent limits to the science fiction regarding designer brains becoming science facts.

The only things that, so far, continue to be constant are the Grand Canyon Paradoxes of progress in science and technology, manifesting through social pyramid systems based on enforcing frauds. The gap between the science that enables designer drugs, manifesting within a social system controlled by organized criminal governments, that get away with bullshitting about everything that they are doing to almost everyone, including that their controlled opposition groups spout similar bullshit, maintains the established patterns of social facts that success in warfare, having been based on deceits, has driven civilization towards extreme psychotic insanities, where the triumphs of lies, promoted by the best organized criminals, are able to dominate civilization, as the basis for runaway, relentless, reckless and ruthless social warfare, based on deceits which have gotten themselves lost in hyper-complicated mazes of almost infinite, looping tunnels!

Don't know if you missed the "sarc" tag but the fact is the Taliban had essentially eradicated the poppy fields in Afganistan in the late 90's up to 2001.  As soon as the "war on terror" started there with American boots on the ground the poppy harvests reached record levels.  They also started producing huge amounts of high quality heroin in Afganistan after the US occupation - which did not take place near those levels prior to US involvement there.

The carefree days of dazed and confused are gone.  The technology curve has applying itself to drug creation/production and the stuff that is becoming available is surreal.

Good buddy of mine was Chem.E...getting close to graduation, he started having all kinds of mysterious calls offering him work at 3~4x a normal starting salary to come play Walter White....this was 15 years ago when the economy was good.  Imagine now.

Nothing can stop this trend outside of parental/moral guidance (which is increasingly disappearing in today's society) or a drug epidemic so catastrophic it maims or kills countless people and we do a national level version of scared straight.  But even that, with the increasing tolerance/apathy towards drug use, we will increasingly see damaged generation after damaged generation.

The government cannot stop this....only the people can.

The government caused this with the 'war on drugs'. 100 years ago or so, one could buy clean, pure morphine or cocaine at the corner drug store and know what they were getting. Marijuana was just a weed that the negros liked to smoke. And hardly anyone used either. 100 years of government agencies playing both sides of the drug trade has created a monster.

Anything safe is made illegal.  Then humans wanting to do what humans want to do sometimes - get high - will go to increasingly more dangerous and unknown (but not-yet-illegal) drugs.   Shrooms and pot: amazingly safe.  Fuckers.

The pot lobby is by and large (and pardon the pun) a grassroots effort. If you look at the details, they usually advocate decriminalizing at-home growing (in AZ, for example, a MMJ license holder can grow several plants.) This pretty much takes money out of the game.

Now, the lobbies opposed to legalization, that's where shit gets interesting. Biggest spender funding anti-legalization campaigns? For-profit prisons, and if that doesn't disturb you a little, you're not paying attention.

The crackdown on the new stuff will no doubt be blamed on situations like what happened with K2 in Texas this past week, but I suspect the real reason is the same one that got the "F" but in the ATF: the Feds see the writing on the wall, and marijuana is going to be legal soon, and a huge shitload of the DEA and the criminal cartel (I'm talking about the pseudo-justice system here, not Mexico drug gangs) will be put out of work by this, so the need to something new to do. Synthetic drugs is one, my guess is we'll see a wave (which has already started) of crackdowns on legitimate phamaceutical manufacturers for BS reasons, and probably the initiation of the holy grail of drug enforcement, legal prescription drugs.

Don't be surprised in five years time when they're throwing Granny in jail for having expired medicines still in her cabinet, or when your doctor is arrested because Obamacare's e-records system thought he was statistically too generous with prescription narcotics (while ignoring he's a geriatric oncologist.)

One note: with the specious 25 mile limit 97% of Arizona MM card holders cannot grow for their own needs.

No, the state is playing gotcha games hoping to cash in on the MM windfall by creating a cartel of monopolistic state sanctioned dispensaries.

..It's just another example of blood seeking parasitic bureaucrats doing what they do best while holding the wishes of the citizen in contempt.

Sorry Seek, that may have been true several years ago but now Soros and his ilk are heavliy involved in the legalization effort.  That right there makes me think there is something screwed up with the whole thing.  For one, I am sick of having my 18 year old kid coming home stinking like weed every night.  Moderation is beyond the grasp of many pot users and that is not a good thing.

Large said it's also unclear which criminal organizations may be profiting from the drug proceeds.

It looks like this could be a case of he left hand not talking to the right hand.  Does anyone really think the CIA's covert ops are restricted to poppy fields?  Or maybe I misunderstood and he was really asking "which government department"?
