Microsoft Sam is a lot more understandable than some of the people who work in retail and fast food.
They could have done this a long time ago. But without employees earning crap wages at jobs like McDonald's they don't have anybody eating at McDonalds. Anyone that can afford not to eat at McDonald's doesn't.

Usually, the company uses the extra profit - that they get from underpaying their workers - to invest in R & D and build the machines that eventually replace their workers.
The alternative is just to use the machine to increase worker productivity. The machine doesn't even have to work. Just leave it sitting there in the corner, unplugged. And you tell your workers, "This is what replaces you if you don't work hard enough!"
Funny this came up. I ate at a chili's for lunch today and we ordered our entire meal on a tablet like device that was secured to the the back of the table. The server brought out the food and when it was time to pay we swiped the credit card on the reader on the side of the tablet and signed on the screen and left...
kinda cool, but kinda sad at the same time.

BEWARE. Someone in my party read the menu off the Chili's tablet which caused us to be charged "data fees", LOL. The waiter ended up having to do manual labor to remove that shit from our bill. Whoever designed that "feature" must have had a previous career in the banking industry.

How do people eat that shit? I hadn't had a McD burger since high school, a friend brought me one for lunch. They're tiny! Half the size they were. I took one bite, spit it out and even my dogs wouldn't eat it.
