Where Are America's 49 Million Hungry - An Interactive Map
As of 2012, the most recent year for which data are available, there were about 49 million Americans who, sadly, describe themselves as "food insecure," meaning they have limited access to sufficient amounts of food, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Interviews with several food banks around the country suggest things haven't really improved since then. A new report from the hunger relief charity 'Feeding America' throws the nation’s struggle with hunger into an even starker light. The report, titled "Map the Meal Gap 2014," breaks the USDA’s data down county by county, giving a more nuanced picture of food insecurity. As the Interactive report below reveals, HuffPo notes that there are 16 counties in the U.S. with more than 100,000 "food insecure" children -- a number you might expect to see in a developing country rather than the world’s wealthiest nation.

It looks like the highest "food insecurity" areas are also the highest obesity areas. I dont believe anyone in this country lacks food. However, given the corporate processed poison that pases for food the lack of nutrition may be an issue.

A really eye opening overlay is relative obesity rates. Its a sad irony that the areas where "food insecurity" is most common are also the very same areas where obesity is highest. People sometimes associate food insecurity and being malnourished with being thin.....as in starved. The reality is that in our society you very very rarely see visibly malnourished, thin people. What you see are obese, malnourished. There are plenty of calories avaiable in our society but it is junk food of the very lowest quality........sugar, simple carbs, with no fiber, but plenty of chemicals and grease in one form or another. The vast, vast majority of people consume, every day, unhealthy food pushed at them by a food industry totally indifferent to the fact that they are poisoning the population. Heroin and Macdonalds paste burgers..... its all the same. Heroin releases a flood of endorphins. Sugar and simple carbs release a flood of insuin. Spikes in insulin cause spikes in the release of serotonin. Serotonin is the feel good chemical targeted by antidepressants. Obese victims of what they eat are simply medicating themselves.
The real irony is that ruling class sorts, the ones that have the largest financial stakes in American "food industry" are by and large not obese. They "eat healthy". They don't subsist on the kind of crap they want their addicts to buy from them.
