89% Of Donetsk Voters Pick Independence From Kiev; Ukraine Prepared To Fight To Defend Territory

Tyler Durden's picture

The east Ukraine referendum is over, and as widely expected, the vast majority have picked independence. From AFP's Marc Burleigh:

RIA adds that according to Ukraine rebels, the final turnout in the Donetsk vote was 74.87%.

Some comments from those voting for independence:

We are Russian. Of course we hope to be united with Russia," declared another early morning voter, 55-year-old businesswoman Galina.

...

"I voted against the Nazis in Kiev, which are supported by the U.S. and Europe. I voted for an independent Donbass," said the 63-year-old, referring to a largely pro-independence region in eastern Ukraine.

Here is Europe:

"What is happening in Donetsk and Lugansk does not make any sense," said French president Francois Hollande

* * *

"Figures from fake referendums in Eastern Ukraine likely to be fake" Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt says on his Twitter account.

As for the Ukraine response, that too was in line with expectations:

"This is a step into the abyss for the regions," Oleksandr Turchynov said in comments posted on the presidential website Saturday.

...

Acting chief of the Ukrainian presidential administration Sergiy Pashinski said: "The turnout throughout the whole region amounts to zero as far as formalities are concerned.

...

"I would like to underline one more time it's not a referendum. It is a desultory attempt by terrorists, bandits and killers to cover their activity by having citizens vote in Luhansk and Donetsk."

But most concerning is the following: "Ukraine’s army is ready to fight back should Russia attack it after referendums in Ukrainian eastern regions are completed, BBC reports, citing Head of Defense and Security Council Andriy Parubiy as saying in interview. Should Russia recognize referendums and take active steps against its neighbor, “I reiterate once again that Ukraine will defend its territory."

And since the Donetsk republic is now officially independent, if only in its and Putin's eyes, thereby giving Russia a green light to arrive and "keep the peace", the next and far more violent escalation in the Ukraine conflict now appears inevitable.

The transfer of Crimea to Ukraine in 1954 by Sovet Premier Nikita Khrushchev to his adopted country  was framed as a goodwill gesture to mark the 300th anniversary of Ukraine's merger with tsarist Russia, i.e., the Russian Empire.

Krushchev was Ukrainian  some claim not, but my Ukraine friends say he was.

I think I have been told before that Lenin gave eastern regions into Ukraine to gain political balance advantage.

Ukraine has never been a functioning, independent functioning sovereign nation.

Since Soviet fall,  Ukraine has failed, even with billions support from Russia, while Russian Federation under much demonized Putin Administration has huge progress.

Thanks to outside interference Ukraine is failed state.

Split the country in half, that is also the answer for Syria. What is happening in Ukraine and the unrest in many areas in the world brings into focus the many conflicts that develop when a region decides to change governments often outside the recognized democratic system of voting. In some cases even after an overwhelming vote such as in Crimea the whole process is called into question.

Unfortunately the American civil war did not resolve the issue of succession forever and definitely was not a template for a solution that should be used in countries across the planet. Bottom-line many in politics are slow to give up control and this will not change. More on this subject below.

And ZH believes these made up numbers?! C'mon. Last time you believed Putin that he respects the laws, and does not operate a mass surveillance program in Russia, just because he said so, and now this..

Even the referendum in Crimea was a bad joke, now it is official that it was a scam.

".. Yesterday, however, according to a major Ukrainian news site, TSN.ua, the website of the President of Russia’s Council on Civil Society and Human Rights (shortened to President’s Human Rights Council) posted a report that was quickly taken down as if it were toxic radioactive waste. According to this purported report about the March referendum to annex Crimea, the turnout of Crimean voters was only 30 percent. And of these, only half voted for the referendum–meaning only 15 percent of Crimean citizens voted for annexation. .."

ZH is one of my favorite sites. However, recently it tries so desperately to push its political agenda that in some topics ZH just goes blind. American people are really lucky if they truly believe that the american government is the worst on the planet.

Just like to point out the US runs a total planet wide surveillance operation and the US president would still be hand on heart denying its existence if it was not for Snowden and others exposing it, He has also supported Al Qaeda terrorists with weapons and now backs Neo Nazis in the Ukraine.

You might want to sit down and have another think about who the good guys are, the US used to be and the Russians the bad guys, but that was 30 plus years ago, The world has changed, or perhaps there simply are no good guys now, they are all bad guys, Americans, Russians, Europeans.

There are no good guys anymore, if there ever where in the first place. Putin is no better than Obama. These guys are all cheering on Russia like it's some great freedom fighting anti-America.  I repeat for the slow and the dumb that have seriously infected Fight Club, THERE ARE NO GOOD GUYS ANYWHERE! If you're cheering for Putin/Russia you're basically just selling yourself to a new master, for no gain.

Nope. It's pretty clear in this situation that there is a good side and an evil side. You either can't see this or you choose to ignore it.

If you can't see this, it only illustrates the degree to which you're still controlled by the Cold War programming you've been indoctrinated with your entire life.

If you choose to ignore it, that says even more.

I didn't grow up during the cold war, I was 10 when the wall came down. I have no cold war programming to speak of.

I think it's you that's blinded. You choose Russia and refuse to see the hand they've played here. If you don't think the FIS and FSS are ass deep in this then you simply aren't paying attention. Russia isn't going to sit back and let Ukraine walk into the hands of NATO/EZ. The US would just as likely have let Mexico join the old USSR. In other words, not gonna happen.

I stand firm on my view here. There simply are no good guys here. Only pieces on a game board. Putin isn't a Saint after all. He's the head of a large machine. It's his job to maintain that machine. He's just playing the same game world leaders have always played. It's Risk, with real weapons and real peoples lives on the line.

There is little the United States can do directly to stop Russian aggression in Crimea. In many ways, the time for action would have been six years ago when Russian forces invaded Georgia, occupying and creating puppet states out of large swaths of Georgian territory, just 30 miles from Sochi, where Putin presided over the 2014 Winter Olympics. Had the United States recognized Russian aggression then and helped fortify other states in Russian crosshairs, Putin might have realized that there was consequence to his aggression.

The "Russian aggression in Crimea" that you write about is a fantasy. We overthrew the Ukraine elected government in the hope that the coup government we installed would rule the entire country. Guess what? The coup government was rejected by large parts of the country. One of those parts, Crimea, decided to join Russia. The only aggression is that of the U.S. Government when it helped overthrow the elected government.

gina, here's a more comprehensive list what the global bogeymen have been doing since WW2.

A Timeline of CIA Atrocities | By Steve Kangas

The following timeline describes just a few of the hundreds of atrocities and crimes committed by the CIA.

CIA operations follow the same recurring script. First, American business interests abroad are threatened by a popular or democratically elected leader. The people support their leader because he intends to conduct land reform, strengthen unions, redistribute wealth, nationalize foreign-owned industry, and regulate business to protect workers, consumers and the environment. So, on behalf of American business, and often with their help, the CIA mobilizes the opposition.

.

First it identifies right-wing groups within the country (usually the military), and offers them a deal: "We'll put you in power if you maintain a favorable business climate for us." The Agency then hires, trains and works with them to overthrow the existing government (usually a democracy). It uses every trick in the book: propaganda, stuffed ballot boxes, purchased elections, extortion, blackmail, sexual intrigue, false stories about opponents in the local media, infiltration and disruption of opposing political parties, kidnapping, beating, torture, intimidation, economic sabotage, death squads and even assassination. These efforts culminate in a military coup, which installs a right-wing dictator.

.

The CIA trains the dictator’s security apparatus to crack down on the traditional enemies of big business, using interrogation, torture and murder. The victims are said to be "communists," but almost always they are just peasants, liberals, moderates, labor union leaders, political opponents and advocates of free speech and democracy. Widespread human rights abuses follow.

.

This scenario has been repeated so many times that the CIA actually teaches it in a special school, the notorious "School of the Americas." (It opened in Panama but later moved to Fort Benning, Georgia.) Critics have nicknamed it the "School of the Dictators" and "School of the Assassins." Here, the CIA trains Latin American military officers how to conduct coups, including the use of interrogation, torture and murder.

History of Iran: A short account of 1953 Coup

Coup 53 of Iran is the CIA's (Central Intelligence Agency) FIRST successful overthrow of a foreign government.

But a copy of the agency's secret history of the coup has surfaced, revealing the inner workings of a plot that set the stage for the Islamic revolution in 1979, and for a generation of anti-American hatred in one of the Middle East's most powerful countries. The document, which remains classified, discloses the pivotal role British intelligence officials played in initiating and planning the coup, and it shows that Washington and London shared an interest in maintaining the West's control over Iranian oil.

Unfortunately in this world we live in you have to make choices.

Basically for Ukrainian people there are only 3 choices.

1) Leave the Ukraine try to settle yourself and family some other place in the world more conducive to your life and well being.

2) Live in the Ukraine amongst friends and family and be run by a government controlled from Moscow,  and run by a man although far from being ideal at least has logic and common sense on his side and doesn't spend half his time blowing cock on a golf course, and the other half getting blown by fat white faggots in the back of of a Limo whilst snorting lines.

3) Let a full weight psychopathic Kenyan monkey run the show, in utter thrall of genocidal crony capitalist degenerate cunts and insane power mad fuck wits in the NSA and CIA who are serially fucking him up the arse  and who thoroughly enjoys it as long as they are shoving fucking bananas down his throat, and exhibiting the same kind of logic as a demented lemming standing on a cliff edge holding a 10 ton rock and with a noose around your neck tied to its fucking ankle.

Do  you want to know more about what is going on in Ukraine and what Kiev Fascists with the help of US and EU are doing to the Ukrainian people? Be aware, it's very graphic:" How the thugs killed Odessa inhabitants in Trade Unions House (18+)" It happened on May 2 in Odessa. On May 9 54+ policemen were burned alive by fascists "Pravy Sector" because they refused to shoot at people. By the way Ukrainian army is with people of Ukraine fighting against Kiev Nazi illegal coup. These videos will be removed soon to hide what crimes are done against civilians. MSM in US and EU is lying about everything in Ukraine. US put Fascists Junta to power . With US "blessings" people who don't support nazis are killed, strangled, mutilated , burned alive. Is it American "democracy"? Do you know that IMF and US agreed to give money to illegal fascist Kiev Junta only if People who don't support nazis will be "calm down" ( killed). And we are talking about 2/3 of Ukrainian civilians. Do you know that some Americans " troop" ( not russians) are in Ukraine, killing adults and children ? What are they doing here? Half of them already will never return home. By the way US government does not want to transport bodies to US. There are no Russian troops in Ukraine. West uses this slogan to escalate tension and push Russia to war.  If you will watch these videos i Hope you will understand why East and South want independence. Can almost 10 million of people of Southeast be terrorists? Also, foreign journalists were present during referendum and were amazed by people's willingness to vote for independence. They did not see any violations and nobody forced civilians to vote. They just want to be alive and don't want to have Nazi regime. But fascism will be destroyed again. This is not Africa or Middle East. Watch out. By the way how do you call a government who implemented fascist regime in another country and support it and lies to the whole world and lies to it's own people? Fascist. Do you support Fascism? Soon those who are guilty of these crimes will face their own Nuremberg trial.
