R. Hunter Biden is a counsel to Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP, a national law firm based in New York, USA, which served in cases including “Bush vs. Gore”, and “U.S. vs. Microsoft”. He is one of the co-founders and a managing partner of the investment advisory company Rosemont Seneca Partners, as well as chairman of the board of Rosemont Seneca Advisors. He is an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University’s Masters Program in the School of Foreign Service.
Mr. Biden has experience in public service and foreign policy. In most HR studies around the situation of nepotism and cronyism in a workplace regardless who's Dad got them the job. Organizationally it's lethal, acts like a poison pill of sorts to an organization's ability to function. Personally I've never seen it end well in any contract I've been on for two reasons.
1) Entitlement. The feeling of entitlement that cronyism can create can cause insubordination and disrespect for management and other employees that creates a drop in workplace morale. Friends of managers or the owner may also feel that they deserve pay raises or promotions ahead of more qualified employees because of the circumstances under which they were hired. It can freeze the ability of a workplace to function the same day as a transition and a workplace that is frozen isn't worth much.
2) Distorts pay scales. It takes about a quarter or so before the people that know their jobs leave to get a better job, because someone was slid under the noses of everyone with a better payrate. Or because the person doing the job now has to wear an extra hat with duties to cover the nepotism driven HR placement without compensation.
A common symptom to look in an organization is more managers than workers. Which makes as much sense as a boat with 80 captains and 2 crew members. Not a hell of a lot gets done. Well, that's not true, means meetings. Lots and lots of transitional meetings about nothing, which must be really awesome because they always seem to happen during hierarchy reorgs and EX-Com placements.
