Thailand Army Declares Martial Law
Update: THAI MILITARY CHANNEL 5 SAYS MARTIAL LAW `NOT A COUP'. Ah, gotta love the New Normal: full of non-coupy martial laws.
This is how in Thailand people are told to keep calm and keep BTFD:

From Reuters:
Thailand's army declared martial law on Tuesday to restore order after six months of anti-government protests which have left the country without a functioning government.
The declaration did not constitute a coup and was made in response to deteriorating security, an army general said.
"We declared a state of emergency, it's not a coup. Because of the situation, it's not stable, they kill each other every day," a general, who declined to be identified, told Reuters.
Troops were patrolling in Bangkok and had secured television stations, he said.
"We need cooperation from them to announce to the people 'do not panic, this is not a coup'," the general said.
Thailand has been stuck in political limbo since Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and nine of her ministers were dismissed on May 7 after a court found them guilty of abuse of power.
The crisis, the latest instalment of a near-decade-long power struggle between ousted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, Yingluck's brother, and the royalist establishment, has brought the country to the brink of recession.
In other news, don't call this man, General Prayuth Chan-ocha, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army and Chairman of Army United Football Club, the new "president" just yet. He first needs the CIA's blessing.
* * *
With Russia amassing troops on the border with Ukraine, China doing the same with Vietnam, the already volatile situation in Libya and Syria imploding with every passing day, the only geopolitical variable that was missing was a martial law and/or sovereign coup. Moments ago Thailand just declares the former and while the latter is still absent it too is likely just a moment of time. AP reports that "Thailand's army has declared martial law after six months of anti-government protests and political crisis, Associated Press said on Tuesday, citing an army statement issued in Bangkok." In other words, after not sternly not taking sides in the near civil war situation in Thailand for the longest time, the army finally picked a side: its own.
More from Bloomberg:
Martial law imposed nationwide with army commander Prayuth Chan-Ocha as head of a new peacekeeping center, Nation TV reports on website, citing statement from military.
Martial law imposed after political demonstrations led to deaths and property damage: report
Prayuth to have live TV address at 6am local time
Which naturally is good for stocks: all day today equity futures were very confused about what bad news to use a springboard to new, all time highs. Now, the road ahead is clear.
Several more reports from the ground:
Everyone in #Bangkok #Thailand is waking up to the news that martial law has been declared & there are soldiers at the TV stations

abscence of a corrupt megalomaniacical government is what is required
a reboot up yours
All around the world people are fed up with corruption so it's anyone's guess when SHTF in USA. The Thais are not foolish dupes as it appears they are to the western eye.
And all of this shit is coming home to the USA, probably sooner rather than later, whether you want it or not. So I'll pose this question for people:
Do you know where your food was produced?
Yeah, about 4-5 countries outside of the US Border. And California which is almost the same thing these days. Wish i could say i was growing my own but too busy spinning the goddamn hampster wheel ;)
@No Quarter:
Start small - grow a few plants in flower pots. Grow something - anything - and eat it. It's addictive. It makes you feel good and it will spark a desire to go hog wild.
Something as simple as a piece of sweet potato in water will grow edible salad greens. Every bite you grow is a bite you take out of the system.
. "Every bite you grow is a bite you take out of the system."
Damn, I like that! You just convinced me! Thanks!
yeah, that's an awesome slogan.
nice one, trap.
or better yet, do you know how to produce food
Damn straight! My 13 years here in Thailand has taught me that westerners misjudge Thais very badly. Yes, like any country on this planet there are the sheep who understand little of what is happening, but there are many savvy Thais who get it. Who understand far clearer than most how the world really works. This is the only Southeast Asian nation to have never been colonized by the west. Thais know how to negotiate. They also know how to grow food. This is one of the very few truly food independent nations on Earth. And the world's largest rice exporter. TPTB cannot have that. Monsanto wants access to Thai rice fields so bad they cannot sleep at night. Thailand is a gem resource that is under MASSIVE assault by the globalists. My sense is that they will wait for the King to pass and then all bets are off.
There is no place in this world safe from what is unfolding, but Thailand is where I plan to make my stand.
Some of that Thai rice for export is from Cambodia, value added. .
Under the current rice pledging scheme the government promised to pay above market rates for rice. It had numerous negative consequences:
1) Rice came over the borders from Laos and Cambodia (illegally) trying to gain that higher price.
2) Thai farmers planted low quality rice rather than Thai Jasmne rice because there was no stipulation regarding quality.
3) Thai farmers have taken on large debt, both to plant the larger crops of rice, and to cash flow their survival while they wait for the promised payments that have so far not come.
In the end the rice plaedging scheme was instituted by the Shinwatra government on orders from globalist advisors for sure. There was never ANY intention to help the Thai farmer. In the short run the scheme bought votes from a trusting underclass of people, and in the longer run the scheme has weakened the individual farmer in Thailand, negatively affected the Thai treasury, and furthered the globalist agenda.
Thai Rice Pledging Scheme 101 from my perspective.
plus 100 to globalcitizen for your perspective. i can't say how many times i've had to interject on thai zh threads to try to bring clarity to a subject i know nit-noi about ... but can recognize dumbass farang bullshit when i read it.... yours is not. please continue.
You are correct.
The Southeastern Asian model of agrarian self-sufficient as in opposite to the western model os debt-serfdom is a major pimple in the ass of the globalists.
That is why Billionaire Oligarch CFR member Thaksim is the NWO point men in destroying the self-sufficiency model by herding the populace into cities.
This guys nails it: http://landdestroyer.blogspot.in/2011/07/wisdom-from-orient-self-sufficiency.html
Same playbook was used in South America through the 50's and 60's. Drove the populace into the cities by promise of prosperity through development (backed by debt) wilst consolidating land ownership in the hands of big-AG. When the populace revolted and elected populists or socialists the CIA installed dictatorships all around.
bingo
Let hope Thailand won't have its French moment soon...
France Kingdom did not last as long but it resisted the pressure of the Saint German Empire for almost a millenium.
THe fall of the king set the fate of the Kingdom...
this song never gets old: "One Night in Bangkok"
the world is you oyster, General. this is not a coup.

i await Pres. Obama's statement on how he is on the side of the people.
Am I losing my mind? Between ZH, Media, My own thoughts. The only conclusion I can come to is >>>
You're being fed war. It's being forced down your throat. Do you like it yet? Do you like it yet? Here, have another spoonful right down your throat and then another until you learn to love it.
This post was really fucking sobering to me this morning!
There must be another way.....................
thank god they can't have martial law in canada, if they called it, nothing would change
Been there, done that

The "restive" south of Thailand is also a potential destination of MH370.
General Prayuth Chan-ocha must be reding Zerohedge and about China going into Vietnam!
Pixies- Monkey Gone To Heaven (Official Video)
"Thailand's army declared martial law on Tuesday to restore order after six months of anti-government protests which have left the country without a functioning government."
Prior to the army take over, it looked like the Thais did fine without a functioning government for six months. But what do the people know... apparently they need a government to take control over them by force. Remember, the people must fear all the gangs and thugs and that is why they need government.
Are we having fun yet?...
With the forward post on the massive natural disaster in Sarajevo and the rest of the World at each others throats courtesy of the (single Nation that starts the majority) throwing it's entire weight behind them, I think this is a perfect evening for a "blood moon" across all U.S. timezones...
We might as well be baying at it like wolves given our actions, but I certainly wouldn't want to denigrate the noble North American canis lupus likening it to the cheap Western European descendent freeloader trash that inhabits and abuses it -like everywhere else that it attempts to on the planet!
Who was supposed to be watching Paulson today?
Everything is going as planned. In the fog of war(s), they will slip away with their ill-gotten fortunes.
People still watch tv??
Someone here at ZH wrote that the collapse of a reserve currency happens first on the margins. Being that Thailand has been a puppet state of the DC US for sometime, is that what we are seeing?!
a puppet state of the NWO
fifu
Coming to the USSA soon I hope. Isn't there one General left with some balls?
robertocarlos
No one is coming to save us. No one. There will be no heroic generals who rise up against DC. They are DC.
Anyone wearing a uniform is not your friend.
Anyone who barks orders at you is not your friend.
Anyone who asks you to show ID is not your friend.
Anyone who tries to disarm you is trying to kill you.
The Thais seem to like coups
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/worldviews/wp/2013/12/03/thailand-has-had-more-coups-than-any-other-country-this-is-why
Since 1932, Thailand has endured an astonishing 11 successful military coups, as well as seven attempted coups.
"Thailand has been stuck in political limbo since Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and nine of her ministers were dismissed ..."
They say that when she gets really shitfaced, she can belt out a hell of a rendition of Fly me to the Moon at the local karaoke joint.
General Prayuth Chan-ocha. That doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. The clanking sound you hear is every news announcer reaching for a bottle of tequila.
By the way, for anyone that follows Thai politics, the only surprise is that it took this long. It's pretty idiotic to try and link this to other world events. Thai politics has been a mess for a long, long time.
I will be the first to grant you that Thai politics has been a mess for a long time. That being said, I can assure you that the instability in Thailand is very much related to the unfolding global narrative. Taksin was CFR alligned and still has the massive K street and DC power base working on his behalf. Thailand is a chip the globalists want very badly to fall into their hands. The indebting, privatizing, and asset stripping of Thailand is clearly the plan and has already happened on some fronts.
GlobalCtzn
Thanks for your insights, I appreciate them.
Yes but what is consistently never pointed out is the yellow/monarchy/army are just as plugged into the nwo grid as Thaksin. Sorry but ffs I wish commenters here were as politically savy as they are to finance.
upvoted.
the echo being heard now has some (not all, some) origins in the early 70's Nixon era politics. . .
many clues abound, watch the signal to noise ratios tho'
Sadly I read some weeks ago that they manage to have Thai household overindebted :(
Once they are here, it is easy to manipulate discontentment...
Actually, this is probably an improvement in the Thai situation, which was showing signs of escalation into yet another bloody political conflict. With no solution in sight, deteriorating economy and various other gathering ills, the Army decided "Enough!" Nothing new here. There's been a long string of coups in recent times, more than 30 and counting I believe, and governments never seem to last out an elected term. Business as usual for Thailand... And yes, I live there, an American ex-pat.
Agreed, I have a family member living overthere, clearly the Thai kingdom is under pressure of international corporations.
The Kingdom still set restriction on what foreigners can do, buy, etc. Simply protects the interests of their people from a massive in flow of capital that would flood the country otherwise. Ain't perfect for sure but if the King falls, the "progressive" Thai will understand only too late how misslead they have been...
A military without a government is not a legit military now is it. Of course they had to step in our else they lose their legitimacy and get relegated to armed thugs/militias like the peons.
Going to hell in a handbasket fast. Actually slow-mo. I have the attention span of a 2 year old and i'm getting quit tired of this BS let's get this damn thing rolling or stfu and get off the pot!
Hmm crumbled government... and massive debts etc?
Just a few things to pop up?

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-02-18/bank-runs-spread-thailand
This goes to my point. Only an armed force can declare a real state of martial law.
Civilian governments can't declare actual martial law withhout abdicating power. Whatever a functioning civilian government decrees is not martial law... it's terror, police state, or shtf measures.
In other words it all sucks cock.
One huge tinderbox. Any one country just needs a spark to set the whole thing on fire,
Government is a fucking abomination and is the worst thing to ever happen to humankind.
What is martial law? Is that when uniformed thugs ask you to show ID before they allow you to continue on your way?
Historically in Thailand, coups occur like election cycles. This is the best type of governance for dumb ass fucks that don't vote.

This blog covers all the shit going down in Thailand well
http://thaipoliticalprisoners.wordpress.com/
The crazed royalist-fascists will try and put their man in as PM by the weekend. The actions today are to get ready to stop the red shirts from entering BKK. This will result in low level insurgency rather than civil war. Much like has been the case in the deep south for the past 10 years.
The yellows are hell bent on securing power at any cost. However it is not hard to beat them. The reds will make them hurt where it hurts most. In the pocket. Thailand is headed for a very bloody 2-3 year period. Game over.

Access to this website seems to be blocked inside Thailand.
@Bourbonite, thaipoliticalprisoners
a red shirt point of view supporting the Oligarchs (the peasant villagers get paid for their thuggary and votes)
Absolutely right - any site that carries a list of so called "political prisoners" that includes the infamous Ko Tee (who recently warned unarmed protesters on his facebook page that snipers were waiting for them if they insisted in marching, and they were, and several deaths resulted) is a steaming pile of crap. The government and their red shirt thugs are bought and paid for by the criminal Taksin in Dubai and his puppet-masters in Washington and City of London. Bourbonite can take his propaganda where people are clueless and beleive this type of garbage.
They shut down all TV and radio stations, but what about internet?
Doesn't look that way.
http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/727485-thailand-what-the-martial-law...
Only thing I'm sure of regarding Thailand is their universal worship for The King. That generalissimo ain't the king so I'm guessing this too shall pass.
yeah well ... have you noticed the kings condition recently? anyone who isn't familiar with the problem of royal succession and it's it's proximity is missing the point of the whole exersise. long live the thai people and their kingdom.
Every Thai I ever met was adamant the The King would never die.
"long live the thai people and their kingdom." Yes, I'm witchu.
It's okay, the good ole US of A has been in a state of quasi-martial law since, what, the 1930s? Militaristic police state with a runaway intelligence apparatus, by any other name, is martial law. We're just more elegant about it.
Hypodermics on the shore.
Thailand's under martial law.
Rock and roller cola wars
I can't take it anymore!
Where's Marc Faber?
I'm here now listening to Steely Dan and smoking a blunt on my balcony looking at the ocean.
I love it. Down goes my cost of living. LOLO
No shit I'm one hour away from bangkok. and it's just another day. I head to BK in the am. we shall see
