President Obama To Explain How You Can Keep Your Veteran Affairs Scandal - Live Feed

Tyler Durden's picture

Following the ongoing uncovering of increasing issues at the Department of Veterans Affairs - after reports surfaced a month ago detailing patients dying while waiting for treatment in a Phoenix VA facility - it appears its time for the teleprompter-in-chief to smooth things over, start a probe, and put everyone straight on who is to blame for the disgusting treatment of US veterans... Perhaps - as we noted here - it is worth remember the 'full price' of war.

Why do yo think Obummer is allowing this to take place? He says he is going to fix it.  He has said he would deal with the economy for 5 years and what?...the middle class is getting wiped out.  He said we could keep our healthplans and our premiums would go down $2600 per family...his admin is purposefully hiding info about what happend in Benghazi, the IRS scandal, Fast and Furious.

Tell me one thing that this administration has successfully acheived where they bent the social welfare curve so that the masses were better off?  They haven't!  Even Obummercare has been a disaster from a cost standpoint, why else would they need to backstop it with social assets (tax dollars)?

What a fucking disaster this guy is.

I'd sure feel better about paying taxes to take of of veterans if they had actually defended our freedoms. Our freedoms diminish by the day, and no one in the US mercenary forces does shit about it. Instead, they go and fight for the banks, oil companies, shitbag politicians, and MIC fatcats.

When is the military going to defend our freedom? When are they going to go arrest O'bomb-a, and his entire adminstration, all of Congress, all of the Supremes, every head of every Federal agency, and try them and hang them for treason? And then hold new elections.

Once that happens, you best believe I'll be thanking a vet for my freedom. 'Til then......

I grew up in the early '60s under the flag waving, US fought Hitler and won meme.  That was a great thing, and still is.  I wondered if I would have the courage to join the military and fight if necessary when I came of age.  I always thought it was the responsible thing to do.

I missed having to register for the draft by a year post Viet Nam.  By then I was very unsure of the wisdom of entering the military.  For what would we be fighting in the large?  In the small, I expected the government to prosecute the war effectively, not use the soldiers as pawns.

Looking at the disasters in Iraq and Afghanistan, my cynicism is nearly complete.  Throw in this vererans scandal and what more needs to be said?

I would readily follow my Congressman, Chris van Hollen, and his sidekick, Nancy Pelosi, into battle.  Rest assured that I would never see the inside of a MASH tent much less a VA hospital.  (Chris and Nancy both ardently support ObamaCare, but they and their staff don't participate in it.)

I would say that it is a valid point. They are an all volunteer military.  There is no draft.  If there was a draft I think it would be owed, as the choice to join would have been taken away. Now as it is, VA is a benefit for soldiers.  I still think there should be a VA providing the services because of the unique injuries that soldiers have, but I certainly don't think it should be looked at as "being owed" for those who chose to enlist.

For those drafted I absolutely say it is owed to them, as they did not have the choice to sign up.  For those who willingly signed up, it is a problem of shitty benefits.

And I think you are confusing the government for the people. The government certainly doesn't work for me.  They work for themselves and those who own them and it is not me.

That is correct. It was, and is, a contract.  I replied to a post where an emotional argument was made about the hazards of being a soldier.  Because the profession they chose is a dangerous one there should be some moral responsibility is hogwash.  Unless they were drafted against their will, it was, and is, a contract.

Listen to any and all arguments about this subject on the radio, all of these arugments are emotionally based.

I'm not sure I'd be pointing out the VA as "special hospitals" as some form of a benefit at this point.  More like a death sentence.

Plus, veterans don't get housing allowances, and government employees certainly get pensions.  Current military get BAH (if that was what you were referring to).  "Civil servants" get not only matching 401K contributions, but are vested for some level of a retirement pension after 5-years (starts at 1% and grows every year up to 35 years), vice 20 for the military.  Federal employees in the Beltway even get a 20% "locality pay" bonus.

Now that I think about it, move 90% of gov agencies around the country in different mid-sized cities and immediatly save at least 20%!  Probably more in terms of cheaper real estate for the workspaces.

You are right on the money.  The Community Organizer in Chief will hit the following talking points during his address;

  • Express his outrage that Veterans are being treated this way;
  • Tell the audience that the first time that he was made aware of the situation is just a few days ago and he is madder than hell about it;
  • That these abuses started prior to his tenure during the Bush Administration;
  • That the Republicans and the Tea Party are to blame because they would not raise the debt ceiling and caused a sequester.
  • That if he had a full Democratic Congress that this would never have happened.
  • Going forward he will look into the issues with an appointed team to get to the bottom of things and people will be held accountable. (meaning that some oaf in the VA that was weeks away from retirement will be blamed and retire by the end of the week with full benefits)
  • Finally he will blame the Republicans again and the Tea Party just to reinforce it.

Essintially that is the Community Organizers boilerplate speech for all issues both foreign and domestic.  Just remove the topic of the day, this time it is Veterans healthcare, and insert your choice of issues such as National Debt, IRS holding conservatives to a different standard than liberals, Benghazi, NSA spying, failure of the Obamacare roll out, etc.  What an ass hat this guy is.

Here is a summary of the problem:

The current scandal developed after a series of exposures made by present and former employees of the VA detailed the procedure by which the department denies healthcare to veterans and then covers-up these actions by means of a complex book-cooking scheme.

On April 30, Dr. Sam Foote, a retired doctor at the Phoenix VA medical center, revealed the existence of a “scheme” which was “deliberately put in place to avoid the VA’s own internal rules.” In an interview with CNN, Foote explained that VA administrators “developed the secret waiting list” that is used by the VA to cover up for the fact that roughly 40 veterans have died after waiting for treatment for months or years.

In the following weeks, further whistle-blowers from medical centers in Texas and Colorado stepped forward and made similar allegations regarding VA wrongdoing.

According to an April 2010 memorandum filed by lower-level VA officials to their higher-ups, practices employed by the agency include:

* canceling appointments when patients do not check-in 15 minutes early and thereby forcing patients who show up on-time or minutes early to reschedule appointments for weeks in the future.

* sending confirmation emails to patients, and if the patient does not respond, the VA “reserves the right” to cancel the appointment.

* scheduling patient appointments, canceling them, and entering the appointment into records as “cancelled by patient” instead of “cancelled by clinic” so that patients are sent to the bottom of the waitlist instead of being given preferential treatment.

* scheduling appointments with patients during times that the patients have stated they are unavailable, thereby forcing the patients to cancel and moving them to the back of the waiting list.

* scheduling appointments for a patient without notifying them and thereby “creat[ing] a very high likelihood that the patient will no-show which allows for another rebooking with a restarted wait time.”

* canceling and then re-establishing appointments on the same day in order to give the appearance that the patient’s wait time is minimal.

On top of the complex schedule-manipulation tactics, the VA also falls back on a more simple method for covering-up treatment denial. Dr. Katherine Mitchell, a VA doctor, recently disclosed that VA officials were caught shredding documents that detail wrongdoing.

I don't think my definition of "accountable" and his definition mean the same thing.

I'm tellin ya, this is a MAJOR indication of how americans will be treated when our society falls apart and fema guys with guns start rounding folks up. Think about it. They connived to let these poor vets die rather than deal responsibly with em.

Anyone morbidly obese, disabled, ie the physical dregs of society and anyone perceived to be a 'problem' for authorities will be the first to go. A big purge is a'comin. I will be ass raped and shot in the head first night in camp. Better find me a good hidey hole somewheres, and soon.

How about just giving vouchers to Veterans so that they can go out and get the healthcare services they need from the private sector?

President Camacho beats the current POTUS in so many ways:

1)  Camacho can kick ass.

2)  Camacho is willing to admit when shit is bad.

3)  Camacho is willing to hire the SMARTEST guy on the planet when something needs fixing.

4)  If he hires you and you fuck up, you will be rehabilitated.

....then off golfing with the Special Service bodyguard team in attendance.

Washington D.C. shouldn't be allowed to have a president when the United States of America doesn't have one.

Somebody call the police. There's a man pretending to be the president. He's been spotted out on th estreet somewhere near the White House, a Clappering and a Yellen while Holdering his Bernanke.

Government is cutting benefits across the board. Most are not announced. The military budget is also being cut this will continue to be bad news for veterans.

The US is no longer the worlds policeman. That comes par for the course of being the reserve currency peg nation with China just recently geting the baton according to the IMF.

Also, see China about to invade Vietnam for attempting to disrupt the drilling offshore. They are now actively assuming the role.

This happened in 1932 in the UK when the peg was passed to the US. UK cut its military very sharply particularly the royal navy.

Simple solution: Don't pick up a gun for tyrants. Easy.

If you dislike the government, why would you support someone who does its dirty work?

Let them die. Maybe people will quit joining.
