Europe's Soaring Revulsion Against "Europe" In One Chart

Tyler Durden's picture

Mario Draghi may have lied to Zero Hedge when saying there was no European "Plan B" (or Z), but he was right when he said that there has been a "vast amount of political capital that has been invested into the Euro." There is one problem: that political capital (like virtually every other form of capital in Europe) is evaporating at an unprecedented pace.

The following map from Votewatch may be in French, but what needs no translation is what Europe can expect following the 2014 elections for European Parliament which start today and continue until the 25.

In short - with the biggest projected "gainer" in the election, and a forecast winner in places like the UK, France, Denmark, Poland, Finland and others, being v, projected to gain 56 parliamentary seats to a record 177 (at the expense of popular European parties), the surge in the "revulsion and loathing" at the concept of a "united Europe" is unprecedented.

At this rate one more election and the Eurosceptics will be the single largest political block in a "United" Europe. We hope even hard line eurocrats can see the problem with that outcome.

So, Mr. Draghi, is it time for another political capital injection?

Maybe. Maybe not.

One can never ignore that it is the political elites that start wars, not the people, who mostly get along with each other.

I think most Europeans feel more or less the same way about it. It's the politicians and the bankers that caused all the shit we're in. E.g. nobody is trashing windows of Greek restaurants or shit like that, because everybody knows it's not the Greek people who caused it, but it's those #%^$@@#$ in Brussels! One day they may all be hanging on the bridges...

More naive bullshit from a believer in the EU=peace propaganda. We've had 60+ years of peace because of nuclear weapons, and nothing else. War between European countries - some with nukes, others with capabilities to produce them within months - is not going to happen, ever again. There's simply no credible scenario.

We hope you're right, but never say 'never' bro.  Some places have been known to trash themselves from within.  We in the U.S. have a long un-proud history of doing so about every 20-30 years, too.  We're overdue, but that's what the welfare state is there to do: stop dissent.

.

We've had 60+ years of peace

and yet, there are ongoing wars being fought globally, from then to now, simultaneously, overlapping, invasions and defendings, overthrown elected-leaders, all this time.

the War Machine has never stopped, you just need to look beyond me-duh reportage to find out where it's marching on, daily.

and, of course, there's the other endless War, the banking class vs. the world. . . current-cy wars. . .

Perhaps one of the major reasons why the EU in Brussels is almost totally undemocratic is that it can simply ignore polls of this type and carry on regardless with its plans for a USE. They will simply dismiss these results as a local or regional problem which has to be addressed by local politicians.

smacker, the decision to leave the EU is a national one. you can't ask the EU parliament to decide for the UK to stay or leave, for example. that's Westminster's prerogative, and rightly so. and so on. remember that the EU has a very limited scope, and again, rightly so

Thu, 05/22/2014 - 12:22 | 4785118 smacker

Quite so. But my point was that the unelected Brussels Eurocrats will just ignore such a poll. It will make not one jot of difference to anything they do nor to the way they conduct EU affairs.

THAT THEY are at the root of pan-European discontent with the whole European "thing" will go right over their heads. In the case of Barroso & Rompuy, right thru their heads.

When things get rough across the globe expect eyes to return to problems in Europe, where they continue to talk. I have not written much about the Euro-zone as of late because nothing is really happening.

The Euro-zone is engaged in a talkathon, with fear of an immediate collapse off the table the members of the Euro-zone much like their political counterparts in America just talk about solutions without any action. For us in America news from across the pond dribbles out in small doses with almost daily media boost of promises that things are getting better. For more on all of "what is not happening" see the article below.

Suppression.  Let's say you succeed, and turnouts were south of 20%.  What would you make of this?  Call it an illegitimate election and call for revolution?  If there were 5 Nigel Farage -like leaders in the European Parliament there would be effective education and the formation of an effective movement.  The bureaucracy would be held to account and perhaps even stymied now and then.  People would begin to feel the effect their votes had, setting up UKIP and others for their national elections.

For some strange reason Nigel Farage reminds me of Emmanuel Goldstein.

Votes have no effect other than legitimate the Soviet moloch now sitting in Brussels.

Farage cannot change or revert the trend, even if you assume he is for real and actually believes in what he says.

Now look at this:

http://deutsche-wirtschafts-nachrichten.de/2014/05/22/nigel-farage-der-g...

Excerpt:

"Nigel Farage: The biggest EU opponent helps himself from the EU pots

The most popular critic of the EU, the Briton Nigel Farage, is no better than the established politicians criticised by him. Now after an argumentative second pension of the EU comes out: Farage occupies his woman as a secretary, pays from EU-tax pots – which he wants to abolish. More hypocrisy isnt possible."

Mr. Farage is obviously a hypocrite.

Controled opposition i guess.

In the end they are all liars. No exception.

The latest polls in Italy show that there is a fair possibility that Beppe Grillo's M5S might be the first party. So, also Italy would be gray on this map.

M5S European stance is: if Europe does not stop to harm southern countries in favour of northern ones, let's exit from Euro, and even from Europe. If European countries agree to behave more cooperatively, we'll stay in Europe.

Two big scandals announced today about mismanagement and theft in an insurance company (Unipol) traditionaly controlled by leftist, and in a Genoa bank controlled by both left and right parties are increasing the possibilities that M5S wins.

Actually, the latest barometers indicate that M5S will have a landslide victory.  I follow the Italian media on a daily basis.

These are exiting times for politics in Italy.  Bebbe Grillo is a bit like an Andrew Jackson or Teddy Roosevelt figure.  He is making the crony parasites that infest the swamp of Italian politics shit their pants with fear.

And for all of our American readers who don't quite get what the EU fuss is about, here's a quick explanation:

Imagine if your government decided that the individual states of the United States were an inconvenience and to do away with them. Then they decided to invite every country in Central and Latin America to join this borderless federation.

That is what we are facing in Europe and that is why the EU is dying on its feet.

The problem with Ireland ?

Sinn Fein will capture much of the protest vote.

The problem with that is ..............its a pro Europe party

In truth Ireland needs a Bernadette Devlin but without the Marxist baggage.

A social credit conservative with real inertia begind her much like the all guts Devlin who whatever else you could say about her had a Joan of Arc quality of leadership which men tend to follow into the abyss.

Instead - Ireland has various inarticulate characters to rest our exhausted heads on.

Europe is merely a larger 19th century British banking union - a very structured disaster they will call a success.

Anybody who has confidence in the machinary of the present government either directly benefits from it (few and fewer) or is a fool.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hO8gvTWit-E

"It is perfectly obvious that this country under the present constitution is ungovernable. You have civilians living in this area who are forced to barricade the place and to launch an almost military offensive on the police force of this country, not because the people in this area want to break the law, but because they know that if they do not keep the police out of this area, that the police will come in here and ruin their homes and attack their wives and children. Therefore, since the police force are the people who are in fact disturbing the peace, there can be no confidence in the machinery of government"

People have made a grave mistake (thanks to the local elite in each euro vassal)

They have left Europe into their homes when at least in rural Ireland the free state was somewhat distant from the hearth and the farm if you chose not to engage with the so called modern world.

In this specific case I agree with Nuland: "Fuck the EU". (Know that I'm European.)
As it has NOTHING at all to do with the poeple (except the very moment when there are elections) - and everything and all with the oligarchs and lobbies of mega companies.

Hence IMHO clearly already prearranged election result: coalition of the losers!

But from this weekend on there could well be quite some smoke in Europe.
And where's smoke - there's easily - at some point - fire.
