China And Russia Hold "Massive" Joint Naval Drill: This Is What It Looked Like

Tyler Durden's picture

A month ago, when the fate of the historic (and now concluded) gas deal between Russia and China was still unknown we wrote that "Isolated Russia Makes Friends: To Hold Military Drill With China", a drill titled "Maritime Cooperation-2014", and which, coincidentally, is taking place in the northern part (ahem Japan and Taiwan) of the East China Sea, just as Russia is conducting another massive airforce drill along its border with Ukraine on the weekend of Ukraine's presidential election.

As part of the drill, which is taking place between May 20 and 26, the Chinese and Russian naval vessels conducted maneuvers in the exercise area covering such missions as joint escort, joint rescue the hijacked ship, a joint verification of identification and joint air, sea assault on joint exercises and other subjects.

Here are some snapshots of what has taken place so far

Chinese and Russian warships lined a single column appeared and began firing drills.

More ships sailing in single line.

At 8:00 on the 24th of May, the first surface ship fleet ship missile destroyer Ningbo, again sounding the alarm combat exercises, joint anti-submarine exercises in full swing. The formation was composed of three warships conducting the submarine search.

The Zhengzhou missile destroyer first discovered the "enemy" submarines, reported the fleet command, guiding Russia "Admiral Panteleyev" large anti-submarine ship-borne helicopters sent successfully implemented on the target submarine attack.

It doesn't matter how oil is formed, only how quickly it is formed. Have you heard of anyone re-opening an empty well and finding it full again?

If you have to wait 100 years for a well to refill, it is no more helpful than if it takes 1 million years to replenish, or 100 million.

China is a big oil producer. It is only because demand is rising so fast in China that they are now the worlds biggest oil importers. If full scale war breaks out the Chinese only need to stop the demand (private cars and consumer goods) and they will again have enough for military purposes and massive arnaments production..

China is also a big country with no overseas territory (or bases) to worry about. If the USN blocks the sea lanes to China then of course China will suffer, but China will block the sea lanes (using subs) to the continental US and where does that leave Hawaii, Guam or the other 700 overseas bases personell?

As much as the US mono hegemon needs to be held in check.. I don't know. Those ships look so last century. A couple of railgun blasts from a new tech US warship would incapacitate the whole bunch of them.

Yeah. They only need to get within firing range first.

With ships that aren't even commisioned yet, using weapons which will only start being tested (on those non-commisioned ships) in 2015 or 2016.

I presume Russians will be good sports and simply wait.

While I appreciate a good patriotic bleating, you're really taking it too far.

A twenty-first century U.S. Navy squid finally talks a girl in to hitting the sack with him, by using a line about how much effective force he's in charge of, and promises her a good time.

After they get to the bedroom, she takes off her clothes, and he brags about how he's going to show her the navy's newest and best weapon, called the 'rail gun', using such terms as 'it'll be like you're riding my train of love'...

As he climbs up on top, suddenly, his 'rail gun' goes off, making a mess of her stomach and breasts. She gets quite mad, pushing him away, and tells him 'I think you need a little more target practice, studly'. She looks at him, and laughs quite uncontrollably, covering her mouth. 'Has it ALWAYS been this small?' she giggles, as she wipes the three droplets of semen off her body.

firing range for those systems is over the horizon, and that's effectively where these systems move fleet point defense to... which means they can be used for ship air defense, long range fire support, and anti-surface warfare... with enough power they can engage low-orbit targets... no gunpowder needed and another feather in the cap for USA's vastly superior *** long tail logistics management ***, which Russia and China can only dream of...

pictures are stupid. most of the exercise's strategic significance exist with respect to things unseen.----

land based missiles. and submarines. and airplanes leaving FROM LAND and firing missiles. -----

those 3 things work IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE BOATS IN AN EXTENDED LITTORAL ZONE DEFINED NOT ONLY BY THE RANGE OF LAND TO SEA MISSILES, AND AIR TO SEA MISSILES, BUT THE MANNER IN WHICH INFORMATION GAINED FROM SUBMARINES  , RADAR AND SATTELITES CAN ALL WORK TOGETHER TO PROVIDE EXTREME DOMINANCE IN A LITTORAL AREA.

ONCE AGAIN----THE ONLY STRATEGIC USE OF OVERSIZED NUKES IN A TACTICAL THEATRE IS TO DESTROY TIGHTLY GROUPED SHIP GROUPINGS. MEGATON+ YIELD DEVICES WERE CREATED TO WIPE OUT ENTIRE TANK COLUMNS STRETCHING TENS OF MILES.

MORE LIKELY THAN NOT , THIS STRATEGY HAS BEEN UPGRADED WITH PLANS FOR DEPLOYING TACTICAL NUCLEAR MISSILES WITH EFFICIENT TARGETING SYSTEMS. AND MORE LIKELY THAN NOT----NEUTRON BOMB MISSILES THAN ARE SUB KILOTON YIELD WHOSE NEUTRON YIELDS ARE SUFFICIENT not only to destroy an entire hardened electronics system aboard a destroyer---but also to penetrate the water and , like a torpedo -----release a neutron yield under sea water to knock out the electronics aboard a submarine.

Bzzt wrong.

Megaton+ devices were built because they could build such devices. And cold war. And my dick is bigger than yours.

The Russians won that race with the 'Tsar Bomba', but never built another. Why? Because it is stupid and pointless to just vaporize a bigger chunk of earth and blow it off into space. It didn't really increase the damage radius that much.

Sat, 05/24/2014 - 20:27 | 4792198 teslaberry
teslaberry's picture

hence the multi war-head mirvs. a cluster of nukes over an area does much more surface damage than a larger yield single explosion---why? the bigger the bomb---the more of the explosion goes straight up and into the atmosphere.

i still wonder if the largest device ever exploded isn't still classified because it was not detected (underground or underwater--or distant space )

"Megaton+ devices were built because they could build such devices."

Soviet missle guidance systems were not known for reliability or accuracy.  Lacking pinpoint accuracy, high yield was the only solution for attacking hardened targets.  US systems were more accurate, thus required lower yields.  Also, Soviet ICBM's were mostly mobile, requiring lower yields to destroy,  IF you could find them.

MEGATON+ YIELD DEVICES WERE CREATED TO WIPE OUT ENTIRE TANK COLUMNS STRETCHING TENS OF MILES.

Where do you get your info from anyway??  Megaton plus nukes were created to destroy metropolitan areas, ship groupings and military bases, not tank columns.  The fireball radius on a 1 MT nuke is less than 1 mile and the 20 PSI overpressure radius is less than 1-1/2 miles, which a tank would survive with no problem. Go to the folliowing site and you can see the effects of any nuke for yourself . . . .

http://www.nuclearsecrecy.com/nukemap/

Multiple strikes with tactical nukes (less than 20kt yield) would be used against tanks and other armor.

please... equipment has been hardened against neutron flux for some time now... even the old Soviet tanks have BPE liners... not to mention Chobham armor and a gazillion other hardening systems in place on various platforms today...

tritium decay makes the damn things too much of a pain in the ass to stockpile & maintain anyway... when your "dial a yield" warhead has tritium decay into a neutron absorber, and everyone and his brother knows how to easily and cheaply defend against a neutron bomb threat, there's no point to using them in that fashion... good old fashioned heat and blast is the order of the day

btw, you do know sea water is a neutron poisoner, right? lol

What this "holy grail" deal has now made clear to US/EU power, now in deep financial and political regression, is that the Age of China has been there since 2003 onwards on the Energy Map.

In fact, the ME OIL BOOM began in or around 2003. As Oil prices rose due to China's emergence as economic power house of the world. This is irrefutable fact

If China today is now solliciting Russian gas it has ALREADY won ME dominance of Oil.

In fact the new resurgence of ME wealth--since the Reaganomics cheap OIL doldrums of 1984 of twenty years, which brought down Berlin Wall and fed the WS deregulated ramp up -- has been mostly fed by Chinese energy needs. Those sky scrapers and investment in Football clubs is a direct result of that wealth shift from West to East.

Today the West is waking up to realize that the US Oligarchy cabal, who got rich on the Reaganomics supply side escalator, has now created its own rival through its own hubris which is bringing down the house of Washington DC.

As shown by these "Big Stick" exercices in China seas.

"You've lost the control of fossil fuels, you've lost the control of Greenback hegemony on world commodities; now you'll lose the control of the BIG STICK"... seems to be the awesome new message...

The three pillars of Pax Americana hegemony now all compromised.

Thank you very much GWB/Clinton, the two scions of red blue Oligarchy collusion, for having designed the demise of first world middle class in this mad rush to create a 1% world Oligarchy and the dystopian world of Antarctic meltdown.

Those whom the Gods wish to destroy they first drive mad.

PS : Lets see if the internal problems of China/Russia can withstand the upcoming asset shakedown that the Alternate media keeps talking about and that MSM keeps blaring is all hype as "the western revival is just around the corner". That or military showdown.

If you are in a war and you find your enemies aircraftcarrie fleet...you tactical nuke it if you can...EMP ... burn the electronics....disable the fleet.... AND these missiles have mutiple wareheads...try and pick the one(s) that are live. You can flood a fleet with a hundred dummy and live warheads..only needs one to go off to basically disable the fleets hardware

Now if the enemy want to nuke a city in retaliation..then they would understand that THAT would be the first shot in MAD.

Tac nuke enemy hardware and military is different from nuking a city.

In anycase it doesn't matter how many aircraftcarriers and what not the US has...their opponents...say Russia & China have enough to ensure that nobody wins.

Nukes on the battlefield may appear..and it Wont mean nuked cities in retalition.

The US wont fight a war that actually gets taken to home soil. They are happy to cause the deaths of hundreds of thousand everywhere else in the world...but home soil they turn they will get very weak knees. And pick a fight with China Russia etc...isn't the same as making chaos in Syria, Iraq and so forth...these will be countries who will punch you in face back if you punch them....and both have a long long history of war and living it hard.

Or you could simply counter with a Russia/China wide emp of your own disabling their entire economy. This should have been YOUR first move. Small thinkers...

Followed by either China or Russia doing the same to the US (or just going full nuclear on US cities).

If China loses its electrical grid then how will that really change the lives of people who mostly have rural connections, no central heating, often use coal for cooking and all rode bicycles until 20-25 years ago.

Meanwhile in the US the loss of electricity means SNAP cards won't work, DWTS won't be broadcast, lard arses won't have any elevators to ride and credit cards will be useless. The dark ages with mass upheaval.

Yawn. It's not cool until someone's sub gets a picture of an aircraft carrier's hull number.

Thank you for the pics of your fleet's small boys. They are attractive, and impressive! We were unable to attend, as we were not invited, but can assure you we have great info on the communications exchanged and quite detailed pictures of even the keels of these vessels.

If you want to understand why the current Oligarchy age has been spawned so fast don't bother to read the crap that comes out of the false nosed Neo-con, Tea party type anarcho-capitalist jerks that post here at ZH--As ZH has no editorial format it accumulates for "mysterious" reasons a lot of junk like space objects floating in the Internet ethereal blogosphere-- I don't bother to try and understand WHY except maybe a demented belief that all news is fit to be printed-- something I can accept at face value; even though I have my doubts that face value may have attached to it a hidden agenda that contravenes ZH's avowed Mission statement--which we all admire.

Whatever, its not the issue anymore; it is what it is.

But amongst the stirling articles that ZH posts here is one that caught my eye and that states clearly the KEy Parameter that will determine the intercourse between R>> G so dear to Piketty, whose thesis I do defend; whatever the skeptics may say.

THis article is a reminder of what our current world is about, entitled :

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-05-22/connection-between-oil-prices-d...

This says the essential.  Keep this article in mind in the coming times.

IMO the capitalist world of Reaganomics built its Oilgarchy riches on two major planks :

1° Cheap Oil under Saud spigot WIDE OPEN since 1982

2° Cheap labour wide open since NWO outsourcing; the Nike/Walmart model of 1991 onwards.

This article highlights that the current financial dystopia will now hit the asymptote as cheap OIL is a thing of the PASt. And that changes everything for the Oligarchy and its polluted Fiat model.

Whatever the labour pool PARAMETERS, aka whether its Chindia or Vietnam/Bengladesh; peak cheap oil will bring the house of cards down and cheap money will have to DISAPPEAR to avoid hyperinflation; and when it does : KABOOM !

It could be anytime between 2014 and 2016...

The U.S. couldn't even prevent several very large planes from being hijacked by goat herders and then flown into strategic military targets on its own soil. They couldn't even stop it with fighter jets already in the air nearby while they were watching the whole thing happen on radar!

I think it was because .gov didn't want to prevent the very large planes from being flown into those targets. There is really no other logical explanation for this lapse. I don't believe our military is that inept or incompetant. I don't believe our intelligence agencies are that incompetant either.
