Awkward Friday: Obama And Putin On The Big Screen

Tyler Durden's picture

There was a moment of awkward levity during today's D-Day celebration when a cruel TV producer decided to show both Obama and Putin on the big screen at the same time. And the crowd goes wild.

And as covered by CNN:

A few Putin quotes from his meeting with world leaders at the 70th anniversary of the Normandy landings… excerpted from RT ::

Putin told French media (June 4).

“The entire world remembers the US Secretary of State demonstrating the evidence of Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction, waving around some test tube with washing powder in the UN Security Council. Eventually, the US troops invaded Iraq, Saddam Hussein was hanged and later it turned out there had never been any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. You know – it’s one thing to say things and another to actually have evidence.

After Crimea voted in its March referendum to join Russia, the West voiced concerns that the people in the region voted at gunpoint.

Russian troops were in Crimea under the international treaty on the deployment of the Russian military base. It’s true that Russian troops helped Crimeans hold a referendum 1) on their independence and 2) on their desire to join the Russian Federation. No one can prevent these people from exercising a right that is stipulated in Article 1 of the UN Charter, the right of nations to self-determination.

“We conducted an exclusively diplomatic and peaceful dialogue – I want to stress this – with our partners in Europe and the United States. In response to our attempts to hold such a dialogue and to negotiate an acceptable solution, they supported the anti-constitutional state coup in Ukraine, and following that we could not be sure that Ukraine would not become part of the North Atlantic military bloc. In that situation, we could not allow a historical part of the Russian territory with a predominantly ethnic Russian population to be incorporated into an international military alliance, especially because Crimeans wanted to be part of Russia.”

One journalist asked the president whether he wants to recreate the old borders of the Soviet Union.

We want to use modern policies to improve our competitive advantage, including economic integration. This is what we are doing in the post-Soviet space within the Customs Union and now also within the Eurasian Union.

On US relations and its aggressive foreign policies:

“Speaking of US policy, it’s clear that the United States is pursuing the most aggressive and toughest policy to defend its own interests – at least, this is how the American leaders see it – and they do it persistently."

“There are basically no Russian troops abroad while US troops are everywhere. There are US military bases everywhere around the world and they are always involved in the fates of other countries, even though they are thousands of kilometers away from US borders.”

“…The defense budget of the United States…is larger than the combined military budgets of every country in the world… So who’s pursuing an aggressive policy?”

From the article you cite, figures from the World Almanac compiled by The American Jewish Committee starkly contrast with WWII reports of Jewish populations and Jewish deaths at the hands of the German government.

World Almanac 1933:

The American Jewish Committee, which gives the figures in the table  below, estimated the Jewish population of the world in 1933, as follows: Europe, 9,494,363; Africa, 580,869; Asia, 582,609; Australia, 30,401; the Americas, 4,677,217 = Jewish Population Worldwide in 1933: Total, 15,315,000.

“By Country (Jewish population in specific countries): Austria, 250,000; British Empire, 720,540; Germany, 510,000;  Hungary, 444,567; Palestine, 175,006; Poland, 3,028,837… Roumania, 984,213; Russia in Asia, 49,571; Russia in Eur, 539,272; Russ. (U.S.S.R.), 2,672.308; Ukraine, 1,574,428… Total Jewish Population Worldwide in 1933 15,315,000.

Behind the victory celebrations there was a meeting between Ukraine's chocolate king and Putin and it led to a handshake. Lets hope it leads to some peace and negotiation on the Ukraine front.

Lets hope the Europeans wake up and decide to use diplomacy to walk away from Pax Americana plays in ME and Syria. Its time that the European leaders take hold of their own diplomacy and destiny, not as bootlickers of US unilateral hegemony in ME and Africa.

What the Yugoslavian tragedy and break-up showed Europe back then in 1992 when the Berlin wall had fallen-- but Germany was too fragile in its own reconstruction pains to worry about European nation building-- was that Europe missed a major opportunity in dire Balkan crisis to create a common vision of peace amongst nation states on their own continent. It allowed the Americans to take the initiative, in that awesome void of Euro absence allowing Sarajevo sniper murderings,  to impose peace on Milosovic. It allowed subsequent Pax Americana politics to unfold and Brzezinski's Doctrine to be imposed on East Europe inspite of what Bush Snr promised Gorbatchev (no extension of Nato beyond the Berlin wall reconfiguration).

Its high time that Europe does not miss that bus a second time. Or its spells end of European dreams for another long period of continental pains.

And, Putin's stand on Ukraine and SYria/Iran is now showing up Pax Americana's sterile and perversive divide and ruin plays. It could be the catalyst that pulls the wool from the eyes of European people and hopefully of their shoddy leaders under the rising tide of questioning about where this crisis is heading.

for your education:

Germany felt strong enough to issue ultimatum to UK regarding acceptance of independence of Croatia and break up of Yugoslavia. In fact Ukraine is almost carbon copy of the destruction of Yugoslavia. Germany had plenty of role in both tragedies. While Germans are quite good at many things, they seem blind to the fact that they have been used, abused and to this day are just a obedient servants to the masters who are out of the news. you may have more luck wishing for aliens to save us from the crazy fuckers who are running this show.

Tell us where this free country with all of these rights exist today or ever existed outside the minds of the deluded and fast disappearing western man. The last free country was genocided by the American settlers.

The Sioux had it right, with the coming of the settlers means the ending of the buffalo and the hunt, the end of living and the beginning of survival.

“Indian forever killed Indian long before the coming of the white man…”--  Louis L’Amour

In fact, the settlers had good friends among the Indians, but when they became friendly with one nation, they naturally became an enemy of those nations’ enemies whether they wanted to or not.

As for the Sioux, they were skilled at high-speed mounted warfare and greatly feared by other tribes. They were constantly moving west, gaining more and more land and displacing other Indian tribes.

“Historically the Apache bands supplemented their economy by raiding others and practiced warfare to avenge a death of a kinsman. The Apache bands were adept at fighting and highly elusive in the environments of desert and canyons.” – American Indian Wars, Wikipedia

The way one of Louis L’Amour’s western heroes put it: “A man’s only king as long as folks let him be…

“Some folks take to running. Some folks hope that by backing up far enough they’ll not have trouble, but it surely doesn’t work. I’d ridden all over the Rio Grande, Mogollon, Mimbres, La Plata, and Mesa Verde country and what I saw was a lesson.

“The Indians there were good Indians, planting Indians. For a long time they lived in peace and bothered nobody, and then Navajo-Apache tribes came migrating down the east side of the Rockies. They found a way west without climbing over the mountains. Those nice, peaceful tribes along the Rio Grande were shoved right off the map. Some were killed, some fled to western lands and built cliff house, but you couldn’t escape by running. The Navajo followed them right along, killing and destroying. Had they banded together under a good leader and waited they might have held the Navajo off, but when danger showed a family or group of families would slip away to avoid trouble, and those left would be too few to hold off the enemy.

“Finally, most of them were killed, the cliff houses fell into ruins, the irrigation projects they’d started fell apart. The wild tribes from out of the wilderness had again won a battle over the planting peoples…so it had always been….”

As for extinction of the buffalo herds, by the mid-eighteen hundreds of buffalo hides dominated the Indian fur trade. The demise of the large buffalo herds is often blamed on the white man, but Indians contributed a great deal to it as well.” All this is according to O. Ned Eddins in Mountain Man Fur Trade Exploration History

Ultimately, according to L’Amour, the Indians were defeated by the traders; they made him want things he could not produce himself – like rifles and ammunition: “The Indian had to trade or steal to get the rifles and other things he wanted that the white man had…The first white trader who came to the Indians brought their doom in his pack.”

Regardless, wrote L’Amour: “The Indians that the white man met were no more the original inhabitants of the country than were the Normans and Saxons the original inhabitants of England. Other peoples had come and gone before, leaving only their shadows upon the land…”

…which is to say, the Indians drove out others who preceded them in the land that the Pilgrims came to settle.
