Iraq Gives Obama Green Light To Commence "Kinetic Support" Against Al Qaeda

Tyler Durden's picture

It appears that the best diversion from Obama's latest bevy of scandals, including the VA snafu and the Bergdahl fiasco, will be yet another war, one which Iraq just gave the green light for. As the WSJ reported moments ago, Iraq has privately signaled to the Obama administration that it would allow the U.S. to conduct airstrikes with drones or manned aircraft against al Qaeda militant targets on Iraqi territory, senior U.S. officials said Wednesday.

More:

The Obama administration is considering a number of options, including the possibility of providing "kinetic support" for the Iraqi military fighting al Qaeda rebels who seized two major cities north of Baghdad this week, according to a senior U.S. official who added that no decisions have been made.

Officials declined to say whether the U.S. would consider conducting airstrikes with drones or manned aircraft.

Wait, so the US is now the world's largest mercenary army, doing the bidding of defenseless, third-world governments (which just happen to be drowning in crude)?

Iraq has long asked the U.S. to provide it with drones that could be used in such strikes, but Washington has balked at supplying them, officials said.

Until now.

And just like that the war in Iraq, "Bush's war" according to so many, is about to come back with a vengeance this time under Nobel peace prize winning president, and what makes it most grotesque is that this time the US will be waging combat with at a military force that it itself is training and arming in neighboring Syria.

Which of course is good news for the military-industiral complex and US Q3 GDP, if not so good for millions of innocent civilians soon to be known as "collateral damage."

Cool. Meanwhile, back on Earth:

Saddam was an Arab Nationalist: Gone.

Khadaffy Duck: Pan-Arab/African Nationalist: Gone; Green Revolution thwarted.

Assad, Arab Nationalist: Hanging on.

Egypt: MB put in power to crush Arab Nationalism, create sectarian split.

Nasser: Arab Nationalist, thwarted by TPTB.
(Only successful Arab Leader, united Syria and Egypt)

Lebanon: Nationalism thwarted by Sectarianism.

Etc.

Iran: Persian but Nationalist. Strong ties to Soviet Union/Russian Federation, PRC. Allow an attcak on Persia you start the Third World War with nukes for fireworks.

Shall we play a game?

Nobody is going to read this, but how does some 800 fighters from Syria, Yemen and Tunisia take an entire city and region and dispatch 2 divisions of Iraqi military with limited casualties? What has the CIA/DIA been watching in this theater these last months - The Bachlorette?

What a complete and utter stand down.

Just the idea that the US would inject weapons into Syria to arm and transport these fighters, but then to stand around and obviously provide Intel to take out the entire Iraqi officer corp - for what?  What did all those American fighters die for all those years?

To start up another Syrian front?  To agitate Turkey to provide more support for the Syrian incursion? What do the Kurds and Israel get out of this? You want a North/South Iraq after all?

Iran is sending Quds to support the regime?  This is the wider Sunni/Shia deal everyone has been waiting for?

Is FOB Sykes still online?

What a Charlie Foxtrot.

Maybe Obama really is the anti-Christ.

Kinda Weird, Nato Stand Down on the news now. Unlikely that NATO would intervene.

So now what? What plan?

Now pull back to Jordan, Turkey, Israel to defend those lands. Turkey is Nato, Israel might as well be.

I can't see how Iraq falling now is any worse or better than Vietnam, where Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand shared the Land Mines & Violence... and actually China played a part.

The U.S. has a permanent Strategic Framework Agreement with #Iraq. We have caused all this suffering going after the fake WMD: What we wanted was to get the oil (he he) and try for that gas line thru Iraq / Syria. ( My how its all gone bad) Anyway oh yeah and besides the Zionists wanted an unstable Iraq. Now we have bled together, actually you did most of the bleeding, and we will now only help in time of crisis if the price is right and it suits us and Syria falls.

Possible we could see the collapse of the Regime.

Unlikely, but one never knows.

Every single thing this guy's admin has touched has turned into liquid shit.

All I can figure now is the USG is bent on committing suicide if they keep the Queen.

Funny thing about people. They pull together their shorts, stand up, demand to be elected, say they have to be recognized as part of the legitimate power.

Then of course have to thumb their nose at outsiders.

But then they are untrained, unqualified, untested, and unable to pull together a military, Intelligence, and Border Patrol Force.

I don't blame them for the process. I don't blame them for wanting their sovereignty. People just don't know their limits.

But same could be said for GW Bush, Obama, McCain, Lindsey Grahm, Sara Palin, Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, Liz Cheney, Biden, Rupert Murdoch, George Soros, Ted Turner, Sean Hannity.

Either Epic Intelligence & Strategy Fail or part of a plan that is changing.

Big Oil now says, "Hey we like high priced Oil, Leave it alone, let it burn".

The US, now manufacturing total geopolitical chaos and total insanity on a truly global scale....(strange how the political machinations of a particular little country in the middle east has been conspicuosly off the radar over the past 3-4 months...always best that the puppet masters remain unseen)

Eunuchs in the Harem

What about using, if one is going to use such kinetic means, all those expensive toys which be sitting doing nothing they were designed for and paid for, in Saudi Arabia or Israel or wherever fools who buy those sorts of tools park them in the immediate vicinity?

Is that not the smarter more logical option for such madness? Or is Uncle Sam claiming a monopoly position on such crazy programs ..... which be real dumb and stupider than stupid.

If you gonna do something real stupid, at least do it right and fcuk up everything good and proper out there and quit messing around and playing at silly games which just makes everything worse for everybody ..... as surely the collapse of US dollar hegemony and US Foreign Interventionist Policy effectiveness as a creative and constructive democracy providing force has proven itself to be over this last three decades or so.

Isn't there anyone with <s>specialist and/or secret </s> intelligence working for Uncle Sam and is everyone out there in the Wild Wacky West not programmed to think and retarded? It certainly appears to be that way out there to everyone else, everywhere else in the world. Is there something unpleasant and cognitive brain function destroying in the water or in the air out West? Surely there must be to, if not excuse the madness, at least explain it?

Or are the likes of a Saudi Arabia and an Israel just little boutique statelets, designed just to purchase and parade all bells and whistles and baubles with no real substance and virtual balls themselves to exercise?

I suppose a retarded Uncle Sam could always exclaim .... It was unqualified guaranteed UKGBNI support what done IT and made us do it, m'lud/your honour ..... to spread all the deserved shit around.

Actually yes. Good Idea.

A coalition of Middle East Countries is due.

Trained forces are heavily weaponized right in the region.

Turkey, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Jordan. WTF. Let some of these bad asses take some pride and take the steam out of the region. Of course no one knows how far they will go or how hot their emotions will get.

But that is true for all peoples in all wars.

Why does NATO & US & UK & CA & AU screw stuff up, then gets no buy off from those middle east countries to fight and pull border security. Maybe the borders are so long that it would create whole towns of poor, hungry people without water for all I know.(along the borders)

I guess Al qaeda are to wear soccer strip tops. We have helped Al qaeda in Syria and Libya they are Obama's Al qaeda and should wear the Hope and Change tops, the Al qaeda in Iraq are Bush's Al qaeda and wear the ususal traditional costume.

As a Sugesstion may be we should capture some of the weapons being used in Iraq and see if they are some of the weapons sent to \Obama's Syria or Libya Al qaeda.

WSJ is a day late. Obama already turned him down.

As the threat from Sunni militants in western Iraq escalated last month, Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki secretly asked the Obama administration to consider carrying out airstrikes against extremist staging areas, according to Iraqi and American officials.

But Iraq’s appeals for a military response have so far been rebuffed by the White House, which has been reluctant to open a new chapter in a conflict that President Obama has insisted was over when the United States withdrew the last of its forces from Iraq in 2011.

So I guess ZH can rest easy that the citizens of Mosul and Tikrit can live in a blissfull Al Qeada utopia rather than becoming "collateral damage."

Well, they already got bombed into the stone age before - they might want to be careful with more bombing in Iraq, they will be back into the dinosaur age - and AlCIAda will be riding TRex's into battle.

They should also cover the war in black and white, to make us appreciate the antiquity of the BS we are re-watching - but wait I forgot, its been rebranded!! ISIL with 55% more TERROR!!

If Obama is consistent with his own MAJOR strategic policy option of winding down the "Bush war" legacy before it becomes another Vietnam, he will not support with boots on ground this new phase --alas all too predictable-- of the Fitna dismemberment of Iraq initiated by GWB neo-cons of past. Too much dirty water under THAT bridge.

ZH has not caught on to this major new development that has unfurled since Syria war began. The ISIS splinter army is now becoming a major armed movement that stradles the war torn plains of Syria and Iraq, between Euphrates and Tigris. Many ISIS elements have been funded by the VERY people that the US admin is sanctuarising in the oil monarchies; as the US has targeted Assad as main Western enemy along with Shia Iran; not the extreme Sunnis who were used as canon fodder by the Wahhabite princes against Syria since Q-daffy demise and Syrian ramp up (under Saudi guidance).

We are now seeing how the Sunni rabid elements of Iraq/Syria will carve a territory for themselves in the region, and thumb their noses at their past or present mentors in the oil monarchies AS THEY NOW HAVE THEIR OWN AGENDA.

Who loses most from this rabid armed excroissance?

1° The USA neo-cons, their strategy in tatters in Ukraine and ME.

2° The Oil monarchy kingdoms now hoisted on their own petards of instrumentalising rabid Sunnis who will not stop at killing SHias; they will go after the "traitors" in their own camp !

3° The Shia Maliki regime in Baghdad. They were the "moderate" elements of Iraq along with the Kurds policed and empowered by the US neo-cons. Now they will be outflanked by the black sunni brigade.

Who Wins?

1° Assad in Syria, now appearing less of a criminal to western eyes--as emphasised by Tony Blair-- than the Taliban/ISIS/Boko Haram axis going from Pakistan to Nigeria in Muslim lands.

2° Putin and his Euroasian cabal on the oil and geo-political long term front.

3° Iran as moderator/rival of Sunni rabid Islam.

And what will the current US admin do to extricate itself from this ominous mess, concoction of its past legacy?

....If Vietnam is any reference we know the answer.
