Obama Sends 275 Troops To Iraq As Explosions Rock Baghdad Airport

Tyler Durden's picture

UPDATE: Moar 'boots on the ground' - U.S. TO DEPLOY UP TO ABOUT 275 ARMED FORCES PERSONNEL TO IRAQ

If you like your boots on the ground, you can keep them - as long as they are Special Forces boots. Following promises that there would be no American "combat" 'boots on the ground', AP reports that President Obama is considering sending a small number of special forces to help the government in Baghdad. According to the official rules of "boots-on-the-ground"-edness, CIA and Special Forces do not count so 'officially' no promises have been broken. It's not clear how quickly the special forces could arrive in Iraq; or whether they would remain in Baghdad or be sent to the nation's north. With rumors of explosions rocking Baghdad airport, we suspect the former.

As AP reports,

The White House is considering sending a small number of American special forces soldiers to Iraq in an urgent attempt to help the government in Baghdad slow the nation's rampant Sunni insurgency, U.S. officials said Monday.

While President Barack Obama has explicitly ruled out putting U.S. troops into direct combat in Iraq, the plan under consideration suggests he would be willing to send Americans into a collapsing security situation for training and other purposes.

...

It's not clear how quickly the special forces could arrive in Iraq. It's also unknown whether they would remain in Baghdad or be sent to the nation's north.

But The White House is being very careful to exaplin that this is not "real" boots on the ground...

White House spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden said no combat troops would be sent to Iraq, but that the U.S. is looking at other options.

"The president was very clear that we will not be sending U.S. troops back into combat in Iraq," Hayden said in a statement. "That remains the case and he has asked his national security team to prepare a range of other options that could help support Iraqi security forces."

Just special ones...

The mission almost certainly would be small: one U.S. official said it could be up to 100 special forces soldiers. It also could be authorized only as an advising and training mission — meaning the soldiers would work closely with Iraqi forces that are fighting the insurgency but not officially be considered as combat troops.

The troops would fall under the authority of the U.S. ambassador and would not be authorized to engage in combat, another U.S. official said. Their mission is "non-operational training" of both regular and counter terrorism units, which the military has interpreted to mean training on military bases, not in the field, the official said.

...

Already, about 100 Marines and Army soldiers have been sent to Baghdad to help with embassy security, according to a U.S. official.

Obama made the end of the war in Iraq one of his signature campaign issues, and has touted the U.S. military withdrawal in December 2011 as one of his top foreign policy successes.

Mission Accomplished...

I'm glad he took a long weekend of rest and relaxation hitting up 2 golf courses and house hunting to consider all the options. He's still trying o decide what to do.

Me? I would have already carpet bombed the roads leading into Baghdad. But that's just me.

Do they possess the ARROGANCE that the masses are actually so dumb to believe their BS, or do they lack the INTELLECT to see the disconnect in their lie - saying it's only training, away from the font, but yet this is going to make to make any difference whatsoever or is even an appropriate response to situation they confront?

If you're going to lie, why not come up with a plausible lie that demonstrates at least a basic grasp of logic and/or the military?

Something like, "We're sending 500 marines and 100 support personnel to reinforce the US embassy in Bagdad."

This announcement is nothing more than agti-prop against the special operations community and CIA since things are heating up again concerning the above. If it was anything else there wouldn't be a public announcement......

With that said most likely they are training MEK and other operatives to push into Iran with the ISIS or deal with the Kurds to keep them from declaring independence.

And it is not just him, the whole financial industry is run by the same inbred pyschopaths who believe in purity this guy just happens to be an alpha pyscho.

To give an example since pyschopaths tend to be inbred and that brain wiring is genetic in nature as opposed to sociopaths who are created by environmental factors you would expect it in certain groups who can trace lineage like this with largely undilluted bloodlines. You know ones that tend to show up in all the key control points in society in the US.

http://www.loebtree.com/treetable.html

You can reason that holds true for 'elites' also. Something that could most certainly be proved through empirical means via mental health screenings and such. The special ops mental health screening would force these people out into the open real quickly. They don't suffer from PTSD problems for a reason.

and more importantly from the article a point I hammer on over and over concerning worship of idoltry and it being a human condition and root cause of all these fucking problems.

...

According to one individual who suffered at the hands of a psychopath:

"The World has only one problem, Psychopaths. There are two basic types of Psychopaths, Social and Anti-Social. The essential feature of Psychopaths is a Pervasive, Obssesive- Compulsive desire to force their delusions on others. Psychopaths completely disregard and violate the Rights of others, particularly the Freedom of Association which includes the right not to associate and the Right to Love."

Over and over again we come up against that little problem: religion and belief systems that have to be defended against objective evidence or the beliefs of others. We have to ask ourselves "where did these belief systems come from that so evidentially are catastrophic?" And then, we have to think about the fact that now, in the present day, when many of these systems are breaking down and being replaced by others that similarly divert our attention away from what IS, it becomes necessary to "enforce" a certain mode of thinking. And that is what Psychopaths do best.

Psychopaths dominate and set the standard for behavior in our society. We live in a world based on a psychopathic, energy stealing food chain, because that's just the way things are. Most people are so damaged they no longer have the capacity to even imagine a different system based on a symbiotic network.

...

And when you have a society that is run by these people en masse it permeates into the society in general through environmental factors like excessive consumerism which in turn favors narcissism worshipping the financial religion and it's idol of the toilet paper dollar which is 'food' which in turn after about 2 to 3 generations reshapes a whole society and you have an explosion of narcistic individuals that can't do anything for themselves that eventually drag the whole thing down which is were we are now.

Two weeks after the incident, on December 27,2012,  the local newspaper - the Newtown  Bee - had a short  article by reporter Andrew Gorosko.  The last line - in almost a throw away tone - described an armed man apprehended in the woods behind the school immediately following the shootings. (video of the chase/apprehension viewable on youtube) as "an off duty tactical police officer from another town".

So ... just moments after, and mere yards away, from a mass slaughter, an armed policeman is running from the scene???

Just normal behavior, I'm sure ... no need to "pursue" this ...

You know why the airfield is especially important to Obama at this junction, why the sudden change of heart regarding boots on the ground? It's not for the bombing runs, drone takeoffs, or fighter jet refueling, but because the airfield offers just about the only viable rapid evacuation route for the Iraqi mega-embassy. Should ISIS take control, Obama will have blood of 55000 Americans on his hands overnight.

The reason special forces are considered is because bombing would destroy critical infrastructure, completely defeating the purpose of the operation.

The embassy does have its own takeoff/landing facilities, and perhaps pullout has already started. We'll soon find out what's really going on and how bad things are.

that's just the local sunnis celebrating their 4th of July. this should be a comparatively bloodless coup. Malaki will get a few neighborhoods to govern. the US negotiations should be on drawing the line, leave the southern part of Iraq alone, hammer on the Kurds all you want, keep the airport open, the embassy open. in exchange for a few pickups full of fiat american glory thrown from the back of pickup trucks, (see american malcontents what a little bravado will get you?) saudi and kuwait are crapping their pants. this is far worse than Saddam, and its right on their border. best US intelligence is probably that the movement will need years to consolidate its gains. what me worry? as long the narrative of Jeffersonian democracy in Iraq remains alive, and the plaque above the entrance to their little potemkin village in Baghdad, alls right with the media and the world. it could all be moved inside the green zone, with a kiosk for Maliki. is that too much to ask?

Obama and Congress still don't get it.  People have had enough.

So, let me get this straight. This organized army appears out of nowhere, sporting US arms and riding in a huge fleet of brand new Toyota pick-up trucks? (at least they could have used GM trucks, since apparently they have  a lot in inventory.

... and we are expected to believe that the CIA was clueless and not involved?

Tell me another one O'Bozo!

The powers behind the scenes are wanting us to believe that this has all been foretold in the bible. Why? Because, that is what they are using as their script for the great play they are entertaining us with... and people are sucking it up, and they will expect a savior.

But it is fantasy and only a deception. And for those of us in the US, it is much more so since they have the power and ability to rehearse and stage the photos and videos in the manner that they wish to sell the story.

One can tell where the goat has passed by the cloven hoofprints he leaves.

I can believe the CIA was clueless. Remember they said there were WMDs in Iraq in the first place.

Maybe if the NSA spent as much effort listening to phone calls in Iraq as they do in the US, it wouldn't have come as a surprise.

If one is a junkie, one has a serious vested interest in making sure one's supply of junk flows uninterrupted. Junkies are notorious for doing the most outlandish things in pursuit of their fix. And as anyone who knows junkies will attest, they will continue on their downward trajectory until they finally "hit bottom" and find a way to end their addiction, or they die.

The "junk" in this example is oil.

Why do these dumb cunts called soldiers submit to being the mercenaries of the US.gov corporation. Be careful fellas and don't get caught by ISIL.

Until every member of the US milita return home to their true role of protecting the US and it's citizens ON US SOIL, until every American start demanding this happens, then the US is finished as a nation.

Everyone has the power to put a stop to this now. Just a handful of people need to drive their cars to choke points of their major cities, turn off the engine, take out the keys and walk away. The cities can be brought to a stand still and all you will have done is incurred a parking fine. This can be done over and over again until commerce is no longer possible and the money funneling into Washington is severly impacted.

This is the most readyily available and most powerful form of dissent available to every man women and child in the US. No one gets hurt expect those fucking crony, oligarch mother fuckers running the US.gov corporation. Go steal the cars if you don't want to sacrifice your own. Co-ordinate with your co-conspirators to block lanes in both directions across bridges and at freeway exits. If you end up in court then plead insanity: "Your honor, who in their right mind would park on a bridge".

With all the horrible death and suffering terrorists wreak on inncocent people all the stupid cunts have to do is park a few cars at strategic points and instead of killing a few inncocent human beings they can inconvenience hundreds of thousands. This will have a far more potent and long term effect because it affects everyone.

Get to it Americans. Go park your cars and bring Washington to a stand still until these fuckers are thrown out of congress.

The current situation in Iraq, and the middle east overall reminds me some of the book I'm currently reading on cancer.  It's not an exact anallogy, but the book is largely on how the war on cancer has not been a success.  Current tools used in fighting cancer in western medicine tend to be the knife for removing cancer growth, and poisons of one form or another to destory further cancer cells.  All to often though these tools do not cure.  Growth will often return with time.  The treatments are harsh too, with the patient typically left in a permant weakened state.

As the author writes, there are other treatment ideas for treating cancers that have largely been unexplored, for one reason or another.

With cancers in society, America doesn't have the best record at defeating long term it seems.  With the current troubling situation, it makes me think new approaches should be viewed.  The middle east countries might not be saveable, but if an attempt is made to stabilize, traditional methods at fighting this cancers growth seem poor and ineffective.
