Judge Who Sentenced Saddam Hussein To Death Has Been Executed By ISIS, Local Media Reports

Tyler Durden's picture

Back in 2006, after the second US invasion of Iraq culminated if not with the discovery of the WMDs (which were the pretext for the invasion in the first place), but the unearthing (literally) and kangaroo court trial of Saddam Hussein, the US was quick to announce "mission accomplished." Recent events have made a mockery of that claim, however what is truly the straw that broke the back of poetic justice, to mix metaphors, are reports from local media that as part of its blitz-campaign to take over northern Iraq, ISIS found and the promptly executed Rauf Rashid Abd al-Rahman, the judge who sentenced Saddam to death: a death which to many was the crowning moment of the second US invasion of Iraq, and the confirmation of successful US foreign policy.

It goes without saying that if true, the murder of the man who indirectly did the US bidding in slamming the book shut on the Saddam regime (and with it US claims of Iraqi "liberation") and was responsible for Saddam's death, means the last "Mission Accomplished" posted can now be safely taken down.

As LiveLeak first reported, Rauf Rashid Abd al-Rahman was the replacement chief judge of the Supreme Iraqi Criminal Tribunal's Al-Dujail trial of Saddam Hussein in 2006. His background, from Wikipedia:

Abd al-Rahman was an ethnic Kurd from Halabja, the site of the 1988 Halabja poison gas attack. He replaced Rizgar Mohammed Amin as chief judge on 23 January 2006. Amin had resigned after being criticised in the Iraqi media for appearing "too soft" on the defendants by allowing them to speak aloud in court without being recognized.

After Amin's resignation, Abd al-Rahman headed the Supreme Iraqi Criminal Tribunal during the rest of the trial of Saddam Hussein for genocide, and when it sentenced him to death. He also sentenced to death some of his top aides.

In December 2006, Abd al-Rahman took his family to Britain on a travel visa, and three months later applied for asylum. He later cancelled his application.

In 16 June 2014, Abd al-Rahman was arrested by ISIS rebels during 2014 Northern Iraq offensive. Two days later, it was reported that ISIS captured and executed him.

More details from Almesryoon.com, google translated.

There were reports the execution of Iraqi judge, Raouf Abdel-Rahman, who spent the same judgment on Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, according to confirmed the pages on the social networking site, without official confirmation from the Iraqi government.

The pages on social networking sites, including Page MP Jordanian Khalil Attieh on the site "Facebook" to "revolutionaries Iraqis arrested him and sentenced him to death in retaliation for the death of the martyr Saddam Hussein," he said, adding that Rauf tried to escape from Baghdad after wearing uniforms dancers.

Judge Raouf Abdel Rahman presided over the trial of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, the successor to the judge Rizgar Amin, following the latter's resignation in protest against foreign interference in the work of the court. Following the verdict on Saddam hanging out in the October 5, 2006, and was appointed justice minister in the Kurdistan Regional Government.

Applied for asylum in 2006 and later cancelled. Given the huge number of idiotic rulings by judges and courts all over the world in the last two decades, why am I surprised that this fool made such a decision? Judges have ignored precedent, ignored the Constitution, ignored laws passed by elected representatives, ignored common sense, and have forced taxpayers to spend money by decree -- as if they thought themselves to be above the great unwashed.

Yup. Agree. We are born into it, and it asks a lot of us to see what is happening. We are invested in the lifestyle that this crap supports. It is a lot to ask us to just stop. So we won't and that is reality.

Thought experiment:

If I wanted to be ugly pragmatic (I do mean vile) then everyone is an asshole and it can't be helped. We have been living on the backs of others for a century now. We have obesity problems while others starve. We are shits. These other assholes are no better than us. So all of us are innocent, born into it, replicating what we have been socialized into. So now what?

If we want to steal the oil, then let's just roll up and fucking take it. The rest of this is bullshit. Get honest about who and what we are and just do it. Everyone knows the score anyway. We are not fooling the rest of the world that we are good guys.

How is that for vile and nihilistic?

And a more serious reply...

I’m actually referring to something even a level down…. We are all assholes, every one of us... on the planet. And we all, ALL of us humans, are 100% innocent of the charge. We humans are all just playing a role. We don our avatars and live out our earthly life, pretty much programmed in our behavior. Because of a million subsets like genetics, environment, et al, (all dictated by karma) we are almost without choice as to how we will conduct our lives. We are born into the system and must play out our part. Regardless of which “side” you are on, we play our part. And when we die we drop our masks and see each other for our true(r) selves.

Yeah, I’m suggesting there is a bit less free will than we may think. It has to do with our spiritual evolution. We (most of us) still are subject to our animal self. We are prisoners of our EGO.

And it’s only when we finally transcend our ego that all this “the-pie-is-too-small” stuff will disappear. At the end of the day, evolving the species is ALL that matters. Everything else is bullshit.

PS – In my experience people who suffer (say those suffering at the hands of the US) are afforded the opportunity of rapid spiritual growth. It has been suggested for example that women allowed the treatment from men that they did over the past many centuries… in order to evolve… and it is further suggested that women are more evolved than men at this point in history, for that reason.

Look up the Joseph Campbell telling of the myth of the buffalo, and how the sacrifice of allowing themselves to be herded over a cliff to their death in order to feed the Native Americans propelled the buffalo’s journey along.

So put another way, we are all serving each other. Even though on the surface it looks quite different.

I feel you. I think you are correct, and not. The words trap us.

A Zen mindset can become an excuse for total disengagement. Which is fine, in the very biggest picture. It is always our "choice" (engagement/disengagement) such as it is (because of the very structuring you describe).

In practical everyday lived terms, engagement is the opposite of depression. I think if there is too much disengagement, there is existential depression. Indeed that matches the headset of many ZHers. We see the folly of it all and see no reason to participate in the cruel joke. So the suffering is quiet as we go through the gestures, holding out, hoping something shifts or changes.

The good fun of being a Jihaddist is ya got something to be passionate about and believe in! Now that's engagement. Just like the empty calories of our GMO corn syrup diets, the things we are given to engage with are also "empty." Said another way, and referring back to your post, we are spiritually starved.

We may be programmed. The cultural content is going to have to evolve or the species does not make it. That implies some real "value" exists out there, regardless of the arbitrary nature of it all.

You know all this. I was just programmed to take the other side. No side, all sides, keeping "what it means" in play, but not so long that you don't do something when a decision is needed, is the best bet.

Keeping the judgement about who and what we are "in play" is our best bet. It is when you think you know, that you are the most vulnerable.

Hope that made sense.

Quite honesly, to some degree, yes. Defintely, yes. But I am of the sort that when someone says something thoughtful I like to percolate then revist. Usually hits me in a different way after the fact. Folks like you and CD are thinking on a slightly different wavelength than I do (which was the root of my earlier response). No judgement toward either of us. It's advantageous to converse with folks that are a few degrees of separation different, which is why I enjoy following a few here on this board.

Have a lovely Sunday.

What we installed was lame because it was done from the top down, the order was not naturally theirs. What people do because they believe in it and are passionate about brings solidarity from the grassroots up. That will be impossible to "weed out." Too bad they have all that equipment we left.

Sucks to be us. Sucks to be them.

From David Byrne, Talking Heads

We're On a Road to Nowhere

Well we know where we're goin'
But we don't know where we've been
And we know what we're knowin'
But we can't say what we've seen
And we're not little children
And we know what we want
And the future is certain
Give us time to work it out

We're on a road to nowhere
Come on inside
Takin' that ride to nowhere
We'll take that ride

I'm feelin' okay this mornin'
And you know,
We're on the road to paradise
Here we go, here we go

[Chorus]
Maybe you wonder where you are
I don't care
Here is where time is on our side
Take you there...take you there

We're on a road to nowhere
We're on a road to nowhere
We're on a road to nowhere

There's a city in my mind
Come along and take that ride
And it's all right, baby, it's all right

And it's very far away
But it's growing day by day
And it's all right, baby, it's all right

They can tell you what to do
But they'll make a fool of you
And it's all right, baby, it's all right

We're on a road to nowhere

You can educate their children, but only by completely smashing tribalism, the permanent enemy of trust-based civilization. Colonial powers that use tribal differences as a control tool are simply perpetuating the problem.

I see all of this happening and think that is just another partial step in splitting up Iraq into 3 separate countries.  We tried to nation build what wasn't a true nation.  The Kurds will shortly start a louder independence movement up north and Turkey will then be brought into this clusterfuck.  A lot of blood and death still to come.

-We should never have gone in to start.

-We in the west don't think like these motherfuckers.  They want to fight someone all the time and if it isn't us, it will be amongst themselves.  If we are still here in 20 years, I imagine Iraq will look like Afganistan with regional warlords controlling areas.

You can't build oil and gas pipelines with Sunnis in the middle between 2 Shia endpoints aka Syria and Iran.

This whole shitstorm is ultimately about oil and gas and blocking Russia/Iran from the EU market through the Nabucco.

There is no way for a 3 way partition to work in a way that creates a unbroken Shia route east/west between Iran and Syria or else Bush would have did it already since those guys really didn't give a shit Shia or Sunni as long the spice flowed.

Obama on the other hand isn't some dispassionate observer with no dog in the Muslim politics.

I guess reading comprehension is not your strong point. Bush and the boys purposely didn't create a Sunni partition with the idea of eventually replacing Assad with a US Shia stooge like they did in Iraq at least until recently when Maliki got a little too cozy with Russia, Iran was okay in the short term since being cozy gets the pipelines built and the plan seems to be regime change in Iran putting in another Shia stooge they control. It is easier to wrest control of infrastructure afterwards once it is built through regime changes than to get it built when sectarian divisions stand in the way. Looks like the plan has changed now that a Sunni Muslim operative is in the White House....

And yes they been fighting each other for centuries now. That schism is easy to exploit as needed in relation to modern concerns here because the one thing both sides respect is the Alpha Dog with the biggest stick. Male dominated cultures always do and when the Alpha flexes it's muscle they lessers always fall into line unless they are trying to unseat the Alpha to become the Alpha dog. They fell into line after 9/11 and now Alpha is not so Alpha anymore...

The Sunnis and Shias want to just kill each other, tribalism 101.

Typical opportunists taking advantage of a vacuum. Not suprisingly the chicken little types are ramping up the local rhetoric here about Invasion USA of the UN at the same time and now it is the National Guard not DHS (busy dealing with Cloward Piven at the border right now) coming for the 'Patriots' guns this time.

Ping motherfucking pong with these people and their informational warfare tactics. It is jihad total war terrorism style being waged by the White House afterall. Nothing more than a hybrid Praire Fire / Jihad attack on this place. Muslims and Communists go together like peanut butter and chocolate when it comes to their hatred for the Western World. I don't know who is worse them or the Fabian Socialist assholes who are running the global financial system that know they are next on the menu from these people.

I'll leave that answer to the ZHs that don't understand the magnitute of the Islamic extremist problem. It is strange that they can see the enemy of their own government but not the foreign enemy of Islamist. They are distracted and will get blind sided. Armies pop up out of the desert in Libya and Syria and no one seems to know how or who's supporting them. But they can qualify for US air support in short order. Well unless the Russians intervene.

Let's contrast this with the elected government of Iraq. A government authored and engineered by the US. Well they aren't nice enough. Apparently not as nice as the authoritarian monarchies and the military dictatorship in Egypt. The Iraq government seems to be suspicious and non inclusive towards the Sunnis who have never stopped killing them.

Now of course our glorious 4th estate is all over it. They won't allow ridiculous propaganda rife with self evident contradictions go unchallenged.

ISIS appears to be a reconfig of the Baath party.  Baath party in syria and was in Iraq.  random other sunni's coming in as the troops to put down the shiites...the old 'enemy of my enemy...' kind of "logic" in the middle east.   so its classic sunni vs shiite  and baath party/former aparatchiks   doing the organizing.     sunni's with baathist's taking over, so the shiite stronghold of iran gets  all uppity---Iran would not like a sunni iraq organized by baathist-sunni's who are friendly to syria....which then helps them put down their own insurgents.

sounds like a perfect spot for the US to come in and try to tinker...just like egypt.   US supported the dictator for 30 yrs, then tried to  support the revolutionaries, who after winning were taken in by the muslim b'hood, so then we had to 'not like' post egypt govt and let the gotvt fall, effectively making sure all egyptians dont trust the US govt---but really who should?
