Gazprom Ready To Drop Dollar, Settle China Contracts In Yuan Or Rubles

Tyler Durden's picture

A little over a month ago, when Russia announced the much anticipated "Holy Grail" energy deal with China, some were disappointed that despite this symbolic agreement meant to break the petrodollar's stranglehold on the rest of the world, neither Russia nor China announced payment terms to be in anything but dollars. In doing so they admitted that while both nations are eager to move away from a US Dollar reserve currency, neither is yet able to provide an alternative. This changed rather dramatically overnight when in a little noticed statement, Gazprom's CFO Andrey Kruglov uttered the magic words (via Bloomberg):

  • GAZPROM READY TO SETTLE CHINA CONTRACTS IN YUAN OR RUBLES: CFO

In other words just as the US may or may not be preparing to export crude - a step which would weaken the dollar's reserve status as traditional US oil trading partners will need to find other import customers who pay in non-USD currencies - the world's two other superpowers are preparing to respond. And once the bilateral trade in Rubles or Renminbi is established, the rest of the energy world will piggyback.

But wait, there's more. Because only now does Gazprom appear to be unveiling all those "tangents" that were expected to hit the tape in May. Among Kruglov's other revelations were that Gazprom is in talks on a Hong Kong listing and is weighing the issuance of Yuan bonds. Gazprom is also considering selling bonds in Singapore dollars, the CFO said at briefing in Moscow. Wait, you mean that by alienating and embargoing Russia from western (USD, EUR-denominated) funding markets, it has pushed the country to turn to its pivoting partner, China and thus further cementing the framework for the next Eurasian strategic alliance?

Unpossible

But wait, there's still more, because it is  not just Gazprom. As the PBOC announced overnight,  PBOC Assistant Governor Jin Qi and Russian central bank Deputy Chairman Dmitry Skobelkin led a meeting held yesterday and today in Shanghai.  The meeting discussed cooperating on project and trade financing using local currencies. The meeting discussed cooperation in bank card, insurance and financial supervision sectors.

In other words, central bankers of China and Russia discussed how to replace the dollar with Rubles and Yuan. From the PBOC:

In retrospect it will be very fitting that the crowning legacy of Obama's disastrous reign, both domestically and certainly internationally, will be to force the world's key ascendent superpowers (we certainly don't envision broke, insolvent Europe among them) to drop the Petrodollar and end the reserve status of the US currency.

It will never happen. Kankles and Slick won't get back into the White House. If we have another election, which I would estimate is only a 50/50 proposition now, the country will be so disgusted with the stench left from BO that a true conservative will look like warm pound cake.

All those Obama girls will realize they screwed the wrong guy, got pregnant and got no job. Inflation will wipe away that EBT card and even they may vote for the grownups to be put back in charge.

Ok... so I can dream.

I'd like to point out that, technically, O did not "kill" the GRC status of the $.

The assholes in charge are have been doing it (setting the stage) for many years.  Serves 'em right.

I suspect that it will simply be demoted to a RRC (Regional Reserve Currency) after the Reset -- as it should be.  Not a TEOTWAWKI event for the planet, but  a TEOTWAWKI for USD Hegemony and its primary beneficiaries:  The 1% and many Dual Citizens here and abroad.

If he helps bring that about, by pushing over the cliff that which has already been pushed up the hill and close to the cliff, then that will make him the greatest POTUS since...  Too close to call at this stage, IMO:  IF he helps bring about the NWO, or helps bring about its demise.  It's like he's playing both sides, it seems.

This is a very good point... but I have long contended that Bush II was also trying to crash the system. The event (crash of the dollar, fed, US) is certain. The problem is who do you want in charge when it happens? I'll take a constitutionalist over a marxist anyday.

Problem with the BRIC nations is that they do not have anything like the SWIFT system in place and wont be anytime soon.  Look for China to start co-op London banking systems.  I feel London will break away and start setting up western style banking that is non dollar denominated at the request of the BRICS in the next few years.

imho China is not even trying to do that. China has one constant in it's loooong history: focus on it's own region, the "center of the world". it's new interests in Africa and the Middle East (particularly Iran) are all because of it's new need of raw materials

it's China and Russia together as a team that is dangerous for the USD supremacy. and even there, their focus is on avoiding monetary sanctions and coping with the situation (including the huge USD reserves)

as Quinvarius writes on the top of the comments, the use of SWIFT as a weapon of coercion wasn't a smart move

having said that, I agree with your "...not save the world and shit skittles into the serfs' gruel cups)"

China has it's own huge army of peasants that it wants to shift to it's new middle class. And Russia has it's own oligarchs (they re-coined the term) determining their politics

This "I'm a serf! But also wish to be free! Putin, flex your manly muscles and liberate me!" thing is both a strange fantasy and the product of the small legion of trolls in the pay of the Cremlin. Btw, they are good trolls. In more than half of the cases I happen to agree with them. But then, that's also because the "let's have war! somewhere! gimme war!" trolls have relatively few arguments beside stoking pet hates

I agree, but it's a tough sell to the Exceptionalism crowd. That said, when does the global search for raw materials itself turn into global aspirations? There's a tipping point there I suspect.

I suspect too, but I don't see the cultural (or ideological) aspect that China would need. Two options which would turn the table on this: 1) China starts to colonize (unlikely in the moment) or 2) China calls on it's diaspora all over the world (also unlikely, imho). put this comment of mine if the "wildest extrapolations bucket", please

to put it bluntly, China is for (Han, mostly) Chinese. It's already an empire at home. One writing system, 50 frigging national languages. It's like it's own frigging planet. Their way of looking their own nation is not irrational. They are a world of it's own

I'm very undecided what part of my thoughts about I should even mention. If you asked me five years ago, I would have told you that in the region there were two accidents waiting to happen: a new Greater Kurdistan and a return of the Ba'ath Party

I was shocked when I started to watch how the US was asking for help by the Kurds and afterwards started to treat the Baathists like the Nazis after the WW2 occupation

this kind of moves are "smart" in the short term and very stupid in the long term. It's many tempests that were sown (in some cases not that long ago) as winds

don't get me wrong: Kurds have a good reason to ask for a sovereign homeland, at least as good as everybody's else. but where Kurdistan's borders are going to be in future will involve a lot of political wrangling, and possibly rivers of blood flowing. I hope not. I pray not. Turkey and Iran are the big players in this chapter

the Baathists were "moderate" pan-Arab nationalists, very secular and mildly socialists - with old ties to Russia. now some of them feel more or less at ease in an alliance with people that are fighting for a Caliphate. So it looks I was right that they would return, but wrong on how they would return. and again, it might be a further case of strange bedfellows because of politics. I would have identified them as one key movement to back, not to persecute politically

strike the Ba'ath political movement away... and the next in line to try to stitch it together is religious. Hence the Caliphate's warriors (ISIL/ISIS) with this strange amalgam of allies. and the Iraqi general surrendering to the Kurds instead of the ISIL

it's an old, complex region. and barging in bearing Crusader's/Jihadist's garb of various denominations... has also a long history

but barging in with a Western Rump "Coalition of the Willing" with short-term goals and mountains of shady deals for a few select megacorps... plenty of us Europeans complained from the beginning, remember? And refused to take part. Up to the point that now the Congress's cafeteria serves Freedom Fries. and few people remember why

the "why is nobody blasting those columns to dust" question is rethoric, imho. it would be an even more short-term "fix". the seen and the unseen, remember? as far as my limited understanding goes, the retreat from Iraq was a chip on the poker table that the US already spent, in several (partly secret) negotiations with several partners

as conquests go, Iraq was the costliest in history of warfare, wasn't it?. (It pains me to write this, but I blame the US Congress on not even thinking of doing those things in a smarter, cheaper way. It's a if they can only think about spending moar on weapons. Like the case where generals complained of getting too many tanks. But in US internal matters I'm totally out of my depth, hence this part in brackets, and my reliance on other commentators)

so I don't think I can help to give any hint on what the future will bear. I presume "the spice will continue to flow". It's price? No idea

isis is the product of the "oh what a tangled web we weave when, at first, we begin to deceive" mid east policy. in a nut shell, isis is the face of regime change in iraq. regime change is necessary for a futiure iran operation because the current .gov is an ally of iran. that is why there is only pretend urgency from the white house. the libyan war was started for a lot less reason if isis is the over running the country "enemy". iran just became urgent because of the putin/xi petro deal. russia and china have been trying to lure iran into the shanghai cooperation organization, a regional alliance. china already has a yuan trade deal with iran and is iran's biggest customer. an energy alliance with russia creates a new gas cartel controlling the largest reserves in the world without a dollar in sight.  Too many people it appears a struggle is occurring to unseat America as the words most dominate nation. Too many proud Americans who see the world from the unenlightened and possibly undefendable position the United States has a right to be in control it is both threatening and frustrating to see control slip away.

It is threatening to think the country might quickly fall to the position of a second rate power mired in debt with many of the options we have come to see as our right suddenly ripped away. It is frustrating that in many ways the country has become its own worse enemy guilty of political inaction and squandering its power through a series of bad choices and missteps. More on this shift in power and our best response in the article below.

So once the Gazpricks get their Yuan, they'll have to exchange them to EIR or USD, meaning another cost to them, and their bag-share-holders.

Each Russian nuclear sub can deliver around 14,000 kiloton of nuclear explosions through 160 wareheads.

A nuclear war would be over very quickly with all major parties destroyed.

And when that happens different people come to power..... and then possible a new world order where banksters, corrupt regulators and politicians in their thousands are publicly executed around the world...in 'the great cleansing'...

His other unstated goal was the genocide of the American Black population through drugs, crime*, disease and Abortions. It is totally amazing! The fried chicken stands have been replaced with Taco/flatas stands. It is my position that the illegal invaders have found out that the American Black tastes like chicken.

When the MLK named Boulevards/streets get replaced with Simin Bolivar sounding names, the end for the American Black is near.

Maybe but we are in no Cold War now.

Back then there was no first strike option due to MAD and the expectation that the war would be fought on the plains of Germany with the 'high tech' West holping off the 'low tech' East until tactical nuclear had to be used to stop them.

Now there are no armies facing each other that would have to deploy tactical weapons to save themselves. Nuclear weapons now seem to be strategic very long range weapons, with the US and Russia heavily submarine based.

Since the Russians aquired all the 'quiet running' sub secrets from their Navy spys in the US, their latest subs seem to be a wee bit hard to track

http://investmentwatchblog.com/new-russian-submarines-are-so-silent-that...

As it is the US, like a wounded animal, that would want to strike first, does anyone think they would (or be allowed to by TPTB) if they had no idea where a few nuclear armed Russian subs were, say cruising around off the US coast or sitting on the seabed hiding next to some subsea gear in the Gulf of Mexico, ready to flatten anything that matters including TPTB?

Surely by now TPTB are well aware of the future course of history and have now positioned themselves to take advantage of it? They can't fancy a nuclear winter so will leave their puppets, sorry our freely voted in Leaders, to carry the can.

At what expense, though? If the last 1,000 years of Russian history is of any indication, the Scorched Earth strategy only led to suffering in places where Russians came and inside Russia itself. Every historical event usually corresponded to the 10-30% decline in Russian population due to war death and related issues. And, despite all that suffering that Russia had brought to itself and others, it still remained 3 centuries behind Europe in cultural and social development, and behind most of the world in economic development.

Napoleon and Hitler learnt only one thing - epic conquests tend to end somewhere eventually, as no one has unlimited resouces to pump into the war machine to blanket cover vast territories. I don't find any signs of "The Queen" attempting sending her majesty's armies across many countries to play Alexander the Great.

Kalki will handle it. People tend to discredit the ancient Rishis but Kalki fixes this thing everytime. It is very difficult to maintain any political sway vs those who have hoarded wealth over many centuries. It always takes an outside force for the reset. Of coure it will not be pleasant in the short term.

“For those who have eyes to see and ears to hear, please know that the current pandemic of ignorance and arrogance is quite purposeful. It is induced — by the Universe itself — for the protection of the masses so that their ignorance has become bliss. The bliss that comes with not knowing the grim realities which abound everywhere one looks.“

The tenth and final incarnation of Lord Vishnu is Lord Kalki. Lord Kalki. His coming in the last century marks the end of the Kali Yuga and closing of the Iron Age. Hence, we see all types of end time prophecy abound. There is particular interest in Planet X, sometimes called the 10th Planet or Hercolubus. Such a planet-comet would be an apt representation of Lord Kalki since His mission, as represented by the Hindu scriptures is to bring about an end to the ignorance that prevails during the Kali Yuga. That’s exactly what He did.”

http://cosmicconvergence.org/?p=6016

Sometime around 23 hundred years ago we see in the Mahabharata Ydhishthira has a vision of the age to come: I see the coming of another age, where barbaric kings rule over a vicious, broken world, where puny, fearful men live tiny lives, white hair at sixteen, copulating with animals, their women perfect whores, making love with greedy mouths. The cows dry, trees stunted, no more flowers, no more purity, ambition, corruption, the age of Kali, the black time."

Crash and reset always leads to one thing - poor man gets poorer, middle-class man becomes poor, and your old oligarchs are replaced with a new and usually much worse bunch. Youngsters these days don't read much, but it is worth looking into "The Animal Farm" to articulate what the world order is really about. Stop shouting meaningless slogans and focus more on improving things through thoughtful actions.
