We earlier showed the close-up-and-personal images from the bombing raids between Hamas/ISIS/Al-Qaeda and Israel; but the following clip (which we still have not heard the final conclusion of) shows just how much of a 'surprise' these shellings can be... as a reporter is hit by a shell live on air.
The correspondent, wearing a “Press” jacket, is allegedly reporting from Gaza.
After being hit, he falls down out of view of the camera, and is heard screaming.

Regarding jizya, my understanding is that it is the tax non-Muslims pay in lieu of the zakah tax muslims are required to pay - not unlike an income tax - complete with forms and calculations, exemptions, thresholds and so on.
My understand is that non-Muslims were not required to serve in the military of an Islamic state, and jizya offsets that as well.
Now can a tax, any tax (or glorified extortion racket if you will), be abused? Absolutely.
I'd say that in the US, the income tax and the IRS are a significantly greater threat than any jizya action that might arise out some malcontent Islamic enclave, unless you include Vichy DC as a malcontent Islamic enclave. There is good argument for that too.
Of course, folks can always make a one-time payment in precious metal - lead and copper. Between the lack of revenue and the cost of fielding new ah, tax collectors, a different perspective might emerge. I think there's a germ of an idea in there, but damned if I can it to take root...

Sorry but projectiles dispersed from an open air explosion verses projectiles fired from within a sealed breach down a 20 inch + tube are two different animals. One could possibly put you eye out and the other one......Not to mention the fact that gunpowder is painfully slow burning compared to more modern synthetic counterparts.

The notion that Israel's assault is about stopping rocket attacks which have generally happened in the past few years as a response to Israeli air strikes [or shelling] is absurd. While a war crime, these rockets have killed fewer people in the past 10 years than Israel has killed in the past 2 days.

The first round to hit looked like it could have been a small spotting round used by recoilless rifles made by the US. I assume similar weapons made and used by other nations do the same. The small (rifle) round with ballistic characteristics as close as possible to the larger recoilless rifle round is fired to ensure correct aim point followed by the much larger round from the recoilless rifle. This reporter was intentionally being fired at from a line-of-site position. US recoilless rifles would have made a much larger explosion due to their large caliber, so this must have been a much smaller caliber recoilless rifle or a grenade launcher that also uses a spotting round.
Hillary would have dodged that.
