Orwell Would Be Proud: US Media Admits Divine Right To Decide What Public Needs To Know

Yesterday afternoon, I happened to read a seemingly innocuous enough article in Time by Justin Lynch titled: Bloggers, Surveillance and Obama’s Orwellian State. The article covered the usual bases. Such as the fact the Obama Administration is the least transparent ever, how it has attacked whistleblowers and journalists more than all other Presidents combined, and how citizen journalists pose a threat to the corrupt and dying status quo. All things that we already know.
One of the people quoted in the article is Pentagon correspondent for the New York Times, Thom Shanker, who proudly noted “his employer has implemented rigorous standards to balance the security risks of reporting classified information with the public’s right to know.”
While this guy’s assumption that bureaucrats and media personalities posses this divine right to decide what the public “has a right to know,” is extremely disturbing in its own right, what it really masks is a deep seated opinion of his own superiority compared to the unwashed masses. This seems to really come out in the extraordinarily disturbing final paragraph of the article:
The government really needs to get its message out to the American people, and it knows that the best way to do that is by using the American news media, said Shanker. The relationship between the government and the media is like a marriage; it is a dysfunctional marriage to be sure, but we stay together for the kids.
That right there is why this country is in such deep shit. We have mediocre, control-freak bureaucrats in the mainstream media and government who see themselves as our parents. That we are little children who need to be told what to do. Sure, he may try to spin this as if he was talking about their respective employees, but we all know that’s not true. These people must be peacefully removed from all positions of power as soon as possible.

I disagree - "Fixing government" will not repair the mind and soul of the nation.
For discussion - assume that tomorrow, by "magic", the legislative, executive and judicial branches of the US Federal Government were cleaned of corruption and cronyism. Technical non-default to eliminate the public debt by "printing" to cover, government downsized by approximately 2/3, held to balanced budgets and no debt. The Federal Reserve, corporate welfare, alphabet soup of parasitic agencies, Obummercare, etc... abolished. Overseas bases returned to host nations, deployed troops brought home. The Federal Government restricted to only those areas specifically authorized by the US constitution, etc...
What then?
We have multiple generations without the mental and physical skills required to survive and be a productive part of society. Self-reliance, real world productive work, personal responsibility and critical thinking will have to be taught to multiple generations at the same time.
Those of us who were fortunate enough to have parents and grandparents who taught us "sticks and stones", "stop whining and get it done", "failures are experience on the road to success", etc... - have the personal discipline, knowledge and ability to shape our lives as we desire. We know the bitter taste of defeat firsthand, and know how much work is required to achieve the pleasant sense of success after a job well done.
How can we teach these concepts to "kids" in their 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's ?
I do not like the idea, however we may be better off to let the herd and their mother government "run over the cliff" and just be prepared to pick up the pieces afterward.

We need to face reality - there is no continuous path for the current government to "magically" change into a constitutionally subservient and fiscally responsible entity. The only two paths available are status quo and failure. Status quo requires cheap energy and a sound fiscal policy or reserve currency status - Nixon bought some time by closing the gold window and focusing foreign policy on enforcing the petrodollar.
That is ending. Failure is inevitable.

I have been chosen to represent a growing number of colleagues, friends and family members regarding the dire status and eventual collapse of the international monetary system. It is clear since the collapses in 2007 no financial structural corrective action has been undertaken and history shows postponing collapses makes the next one bigger. It is clear that we have passed the point of any structural corrective action and face either a deflationary default (bankruptcies and a severe shortages of essential goods such as food and medicines) or a technical default through hyper monetary inflation. Although the mainstream media have done a great disservice to the UK people by maintaining a false reality bubble; at some point the UK people will notice and chaos will ensue.
With Austria requesting an audit of their gold reserves; it is clear that there is no trust within the global financial system. It is clear that we are fast approaching a situation that will soon take events out of our control especially the formation of the BRICS & Co countries. To avoid unnecessary chaos and to remove the risk of a totally unjust war with the East; I strongly urge that you support Karen Hudes and associates and I would be grateful if you tell me what are your intentions are and any progress made.
Karen Hudes provides the best option to resolve this crisis.
