Thousands Evacuate Gaza After Israeli Warning Of "Short And Temporary" Bombing Campaign
This morning, following the previously reported ground incursion by Israeli special forces in northern Gaza, the Israel military was kind enough to advice locals in Gaza to evacuate ahead of a major shelling round. What follows is the full text of a leaflet dropped by the Israeli military in the town of Beit Lahiya, near the border with Israel.
Translated:
"To the residents of Beit Lahiya,
The IDF intends to attack terrorists and terror infrastructures in the area east of Al-Atatra and Al-Salatin St., and in the area west and north of Ma'bscar Jabalyia. Israel is currently attacking, and will continue to attack, every area from which rockets are being launched at its territory.
The civilians are requested to evacuate their residences immediately and move by 12:00 PM today, south of Jabalyia Al-Badr via Shar'a Al-Faluja.
The IDF's campaign is to be short and temporary. Those who fail to comply with the instructions will endanger their lives and the lives of their families.
Beware."
As a result, it is not surprising that after the leaflet paradrop, thousands promptly evacuated their homes ahead of the threatened attacks in a what is now a six day mini war which according to Palestine has killed at least 160 people, and where some 70% of the casualties are civilians including 27 children as of the most recent count.

At least 4,000 people fled Beit Lahiya and crowded into eight U.N.-run schools in Gaza City on Sunday, a spokesman for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency said.
Some arrived on donkey carts filled with children, luggage and mattresses, while others came by car or taxi. One man, still in his pajamas, said some residents had received phone calls warning them to clear out.
"What could we do? We had to run in order to save the lives of our children," said Salem Abu Halima, 25, a father of two.
In the meantime, Hamas - obviously - has continued its own shelling of Israel. As Reuters reports, a long-range salvo on Sunday morning triggered air raid sirens at Tel
Aviv's Ben-Gurion international airport, which has not been hit in the
hostilities and where flights have been operating normally, and some
city suburbs.
On Saturday night, Hamas - the Islamist movement that rules Gaza - made good on a threat to send rockets streaking toward Tel Aviv at 9 p.m. (2.00 p.m. EDT) and other areas in heavily populated central Israel.
Hundreds of thousands of Israelis sought shelter as Palestinians in the streets of Gaza City cheered the launchings, the biggest strike yet on the Tel Aviv metropolitan area.
Those rockets and the ones unleashed on Sunday were intercepted by the Israeli-built, and partly U.S.-funded, Iron Dome missile defense system that has proved effective against Hamas's most powerful weaponry.
And yet, just to once again put the death toll in perspective, once again:
- Palestinian killed as of yesterday (per UN): 126, as of today (per Palestinian officials): 160
- Israel (so far): 0
In short: the bombing will continue until somehow the US manages to broker another ceasefire (not very likely), or will escalate, especially if Israel once again manages to drag Iran into the conflict...

This conflict is fundamentally about politics and the geopolitical order. Israel's military supremacy vis-a-vis local neighbor states is contingent upon the continuation of US global supremacy and military dominance, which is in rapid decline. the long term survival of the people who live in israel depends, to a great extent, on them waking up to the practical reality of their situation, and quickly.
The jews have been fucked six ways to breakfast for thousands of years, in lots of places around the world, by a lot of people. surprisingly, palestine (more or less throughou the 1800s, before the brits showed up) was a place where jews, christians, and muslims lived in relative peace and harmony together. if i was jewish and displaced at the end of the WW1, i would be totally pissed at the crew who advocated palestine (sacred site of a whole shitload of people who dont mind dying for their religious beliefs - christians and muslims both) as the location of a safe haven state, instead of argentina (great weather, natives already depopulated by end of 1800s, lots of beautiful people to make babies with and convert). even uganda, though it is hot, would have made more sense from a strategic security standpoint.
So, if palestine at the time of Picot-Sykes was so clearly an awful choice, from a survivial perspective, for me as a displaced person - whose interests did it serve to ordain palestine as an emigratory state for jews, to be shared by existing residents who both held strong beliefs about their claims on the land?
If argentina would have been chosen to be the safe haven state - how many more jews would have been able to escape nazism and pogroms in eastern europe and russia in the 20s and 30s? would this have been better or worse for me and my descendants?
how does fighting over contested land, with a host of angry enemies all around, help me? help my children? help my grandchildren?
when entire populations are willing to fight and die for their cause en masse,, without conscription or the force of law behind their sacrifice, opposing them is itself suicidal - in the long term. call them terrorists, but muslims who fight for an independent palestinian state, and the return of their land, and the right of return of their displaced relatives, see their fight as a legitimate political action, as did the Irgun when planting bombs around the ME and agitating for their own state up to 1948 (and who happen to be seen as "heroes" by zionists ... although the actual actions they partook of do not seem too different from the methods that Hamas uses or the PLO used).

As was stated above, what Hamas wants is for all the Jews to be killed. Anything short of that desire is not acceptable to them. They say so often. They mean what they say.
if you had to choose between the continuation of the state of Israel in its current form (and constant warfare and danger to the survivial of the jewish people), or a life of peace for Jewish people in the ME in harmony with the people of all faiths and ethnicities around them (with the end of the state of israel in its current form) - which would you choose? are you so attached to the idea and ideologies of Zionism that you would put it - an idea that only exists because people choose to put it in their own and other's heads - before the wellbeing of your loved ones and your community?
Nothing is ever permanent. The military supremacy of Israel - to a large extent - is the result of its close alliance with the US and the US in a role of world hegemon. This state of affairs will come to an end, and so will Israel's military superiority over its neighbours. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow - but that day will come.
When it does come, would you like to have a lot of friends and brothers living around you, or a lot of enemies that hold generations of grievances towards you and consider you an enemy?
The survivial of your people depends on you, personally, and all Israelis collectively, waking up. There is no responsibility or task that is more urgent for you.

I don't understand this, is the idea to drop leaflets on areas Israel is going to bomb to give people the opportunity to evacuate but for some reason Israel thinks that the ISIS and Hama's 'terrorists' or freedom fighters depending on your point of view won't read the pamphlets and move their asses and rockets somewhere else?
Or..could it be Israels tactic is to pretend to be saving lives while Pounding the Palestinians back into the stone age in the mistaken belief that if they kill enough men woman and children that the population will rise up and throw the terrorist fighters out, and, or it gives a great excuse to steal some more of the Palestinians land and build more settlements as punishment?
I'm just curious, the logic of warning people their homes are about to get destroyed but expecting the freedom fighters to stay and get bombed escapes me. Personally I think these two peoples will be killing each other for ever because of the high percentage of religious nutters on both sides.
