The Home Of The Brave: Where America's Military Veterans Live
The following map shows the percentage of each county’s civilian population (aged 18+) who have veteran status... in other words... where exactly the home of America's brave really is...
Which is perhaps worth comparing to where the local police are the most SWATified...
Seems interestingly anti-correlated...

Do you zh blog on a portable ipad or smartphone as you travel so much?
Lol was thinking the same
Do you guys live in a cave? Even the Waffle House has WiFi nowdays. Would have lost track of a lot of old buddies that roam around if it wasn't for cheap laptops and the Waffle House. I have half-a-mind to join them, but wifey thinks not.
The Article simplified the whole thing too much. The result is something next to worthless.
I would have had value in terms of showing matching.
This map suffers from the same county-itis problem as the wealth map of a few days ago. Zip-code basis would be a lot more revealing.
From this map we can see that the US government is expecting an invasion from Mexico, not Canada.
Yeah.. I saw one of those mine resistant, battle ready sweat vehicles today driving the streets in Avondale, kinda makes you sick at the stomach.
Five years ago I was trying to alert local conservatives or what passes for a conservative in Arizona what was going on right in front of our eyes, it was a wasted effort.
A strong normalcy bias firewalling a level of partisan based stupidity is too much to break through, "gotta win that war on (fill in the blanks) no matter what it costs", besides.... if your not breaking the law, you shouldn't have to worry- right?
Ayn Rand covered the subject.
I'll just leave this right here...

Jesus... I'm still pissed off about those Stasi MRAP give-awyas. After reading the comments on that blog though, I'm almost feeling a sense of pity for anyone stupid enough to get inside one that thinks they're somehow protected. I hope my FEMA camp has one.
Note Maricopa county on militarized map.
Sheriff Joe has a bunch of armored vehicles. A couple of A10s, Apaches & SAMs are on back order.
They also have lazer sighting for F35s & F16s out of Luke.
Ann Rand was a satanist, why does everyone keep quoting her? A Greenspan and Rothschild mistress.
..why does everyone keep quoting her?
Maybe because she is right on most points she is being quoted?
.."A government is the most dangerous threat to man’s rights: it holds a legal monopoly on the use of physical force against legally disarmed victims"..
well that's just a steaming pile of horseshit right?.. ask Eric.
.." The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws"..
naaa... she was way off eh, government cannot create criminals out of thin air.
-maybe you can come up with some zingers off the top of your head, love to hear em.
In 1968, at the height of the Vietnam War, I graduated from high school. Being an average student, without much family means and the draft board breathing down my neck, I thought it expedient to consider my few choices.
(a) Enroll in college, take out student loans, and hope my number wasn't chosen. (b) Run away to Canada which, conveniently, was right next door to Michigan . (c) Join the Marines with a buddy (whose platoon would suffer 80% casualties). Or (d) perhaps join the Air Force since the Coast Guard, which actually guarded the country, required a year wait.
I ended up choosing D and E. Going to jail after joining Dubya going AWOL.
Soldier: Just Say No, I Won't GoThatThingCanFly
9+4 years in the service = 13 years, and it took you that LONG to figure out the military was fucked? I figured it out in ONE day of basic training in the AF (Already Fucked).
Sorry I had to down arrow. Especially for your rant against women. Nurses? Buddy, I would rather have a female nurse than a male nurse. Just the way I am.
If women were nurses, it would be fine. Now they want to be the General.
Alexcojones
I had to laugh, it does take about one day. I was drafted. When I arrived in Jacksonville, they came in for the oath. The lifer looked around and said we are going to need two for the marines, .... you and you, he pointed at a couple of guys. One of them was a black guy who screamed not me mother fuckers!
They took him outside and and when we left he was still telling no way you ass holes.
There was a black guy in front of me in the medical check up line. He said I can't be in the army I have flat feet. This sargeant screamed in his face, you have a medical problem alright, you are fucking nuts, keep moving.
Alex, you assume too much. And you're speaking about matters of which you apparently know very little.
When one picks up a commission, he incurs a service obligation. (This is different philosophically from an enlisted man's contract; but in practice, there are more similarities than differences.) For my USNA yeargroup, that service obligation was 5 years from graduation.
When one graduates from pilot training, he picks up a different service obligation (but one that runs concurrently to the USNA obligation). For my winging class, that was 7 years.
I wasn't even eligible to leave until the 9 year mark.
My disenchantment with what the bloody hell I'd gotten myself into began years earlier.
Also, quit thinking with your dick for just a moment and please explain what part of, "Civilized men don't send their mothers, sisters, and daughters into combat." was flawed.
That little white spot in central Florida above Orlando must be The Villages. While visiting the folks, I once heard an old lady say
"Once you've had old, you'll never go back".
Can we overlay the non-existent government database on gun owners into both of these maps? Or is it just one solid color at that point?
the problem with people who have critical thinking skills who are u.s. citizens is that it is difficult for them both to support their military establishment, that does in fact have serious responsibilities for nuclear security and general international protections, while knowing full well, the military poses a threat to their own well being in so far as it is controlled for the benefit of domestic and international oligarchs who want to eliminate the u.s. middle class and turn them into impoverished 3rd world quality of lifers.
i support the u.s. military immensely, but at the same time recognize the paradox of being cautious of this support, and at the same time I MAINTAIN HIGHLY CRITICAL OPINIONS OF THE METHODS AND STRATEGIES NOW BEING DEPLOYED BY OUR MILITARY.
I Realize it's all too easy to be an armchair quarter back on this one. but pretty much, despite my reservations------i personally believe that the military can and should do WHATEVER THE HELL IT WANTS TO DO INTERNATIONALLY SO LONG AS THEY SPEND SUBSTANTIALLY LESS MONEY.
the MILITARY IS AN OBESE FAT SHIT , METAPHORICALLY AT THE INSTITUTIONAL LEVEL, AND LITERALLY AS THE SOLDIERS GET FATTER AND LESS MOTIVATED AS A WHOLE EVERY YEAR.
IF THE MILITARY WERE FORCED ONTO A MONETARY DIET BY THE U.S. CIVILIAN GOVENRMENT, IT WOULD HAVE THE NECESSARY MOTIVATION TO CHOOSE ITS OWN PRIORITIES AND BEGIN MOVIGN FORWARD IN A WORLD WHERE UNLIMITED MILITARY BUILDUP HAS LED TO BOTH UNECESSARY AS WELL AS DOMESTICALLY THREATENING POLICIES.
more and more people realize there is a threat of a military coup in the united states, whether DISCRETELY, by increased likelihood of assasinations of future politicians governors and presiddnts, as well as OVERTYLY by an actual TAKEOVER OF GOVERNMENT BY THE MILITARY .
therer are 50 govenors and that means 50 ongoing possibilities that one the states that is controlled and surveilled by the pentagon may get out of line. it is easy to imagine a scenario where political independent rubric, even a few laws made, by a single state creates a snowball effect and the pentagon knows this and spends oh so much money monitoring the civilian sector to ultimately enforce a narrow political doctrine---the prison for our minds.
this isn[t the matrix . it's not sci fi. it's simply a battle for the opinions and hearts of human beings who are increasingly poor and angry and confused. the pentagon wants to marginalize these folks and continue believing the u.s. can maintain a sufficiently strong military on the backs on new immigrants and complacent folks without ever having to invoke another draft.
well what happens to the u.s. if there is a real war ? the pentagon is planning itself into a corner and there's not much the u.s. citizenry can do about it other than attempt not to get crushed by it, as it operates implicitly through the narrative of 'domestic' policy......
Someday, the U.S. military will be forced to act for one reason/circumstance or another. To what degree the military acts out of it's own self interests (such as it's very survival on the battlefield) and/or for the betterment of the nation is debatable.
As far as a DISCREET vs. OVERT coup is concerned... right now it's military members getting discreetly whacked by the government (the Navy Yard shooting, the seal team helicopter crash thing, or all those admirals who died under bullshit circumstances under Clinton). If and when the military commits a coup, I believe it should and will be OVERT and popularly supported.
Not likely as most higher up officers were educated at Georgetown University which is a jesut college, masonic in origin. You don't go very high unless you went there now days. There are exceptions like Tommy Franks who many people at the high school in Texas where he supposedly grew up say they never heard of him and claim he is a Russian jew taught to speak with a southern accent.
I read your comments and you have used a lot of words to confuse us on whatever your points of view may be.
The military is/are many things to those who serve. it is still among the few American Institutions whose American soul has not been corrupted. Many don't agree with my statement, but it is still a fact.
I do not have time to address all your thoughts, but I simply invite you to do the following research.
- Recruitment and training of the force.
- Recruitment, training and education of the Officer Corps.
- Active vs, Reserve and national Guard status.
- Constitutional Adherence and the oath of office.
etc, - etc, - etc, - ..........................................
Thank you, this is a good strategic and tactical battle map. We may live in certain places but we can move. The arrogant bastards/bitches who sent us to war to protect their power structures abused us in our youth, VA abuses us and they will abuse us in our death. These bastards/bitches think we were born to be their slaves to do as they wish with their patriotic manipulations, but the game is closing fast. These bastards/bitches need to eat some humble pie and start serving the people's interest. They can eat voluntarily or not, but they will eat this humble pie, demonstrate humility and apologize to the American people.
I noticed that the richest counties, per capita, in the USA, also had the fewest % of US veterans.
And those privileged areas, LA, Orange, SF, NY, DC etc, also possessed the highest population of Money- Power -Media 1% types, who would never serve in anything that would risk their lives.
Not like these guys. . . Heroes or villains or simply used and discarded.
Brothers in ArmsConcur. IIRC, Only DC hosts major Military Command Facilities.
I've lived/worked in NYC and LA. Life bites for the Active Duty there. E.g., the Junior Enlisted need to commute (out of pocket) by City Bus from LA AFB(LAX - yes, base housing and work/BX/Commissary locations separated by a Metro Area Commute) to their barracks/housing in San Pedro - figure they'd have a commuter shuttle bus via the Duty Driver. Kinda tough when they're located in Aerospace Alley along LAX where a few Beltway Bandits still have their Plants in Operation. Their other option is way the heck up north
NYC curtailed its Strategic Homeporting Plans years ago. LA Air Force Base is small, and Long Beach was shut down. Port Hueneme and Pt. Mugu (Oxnard - 40 Mikes from downtown LA?) serves the Area, which make me shake my head every time I see an ad for NCIS Los Angeles (guess NCIS 32nd Street, San Diego isn't sexy enough). Orange County has Seal Beach (Weaps Storage and few personnel) and used to have MCAS Tustin; but they shut that down. South Orange County appears to be a residential neighborhood for Camp Pendleton across the SD County Line.
The Rich tend to avoid Military Service - no suprise there. IIRC, I read a Fortune Factoid in the 90s that cited a Survey indicating that most Fortune 500 C-Leve Execs either dodged the Draft or didn't Serve.
There's a good deal of anti-veteran exploitation and racketeering going on in LA and other parts, too.
I'd like to see two maps: one for combat-arms vets and one for everyone else, since combat-arms is a rather small proportion of the military. Trust me, the military is full of desk jockeys and soliders who haven't spent a night in a tent since basic training.
I can assure you, the deep South would be exceedingly high for the percentage combat-arms vets.
Dear veterans: No thank you for your service.
Just another map/chart with silly data.
Of course if you include CURRENT millitary you're going to skew the data. Current military concentrates military personnel into a geographic area and pulls it from other areas.
If you only included SEPARATED (retired or those who just got out) personnel then you'd see people going back to their hometowns or settling somewhere, which would be much more appropriate.
The skewing is particularly pronounced where there are large bases in low population areas, like that yellow spot in central Idaho; or in regular population areas like the only yellow spot in Missouri, the only yellow spot in Kansas (Fort Leavenworth) and the two yellow spots in North Carolina where Ft. Bragg and Camp Lejeune are.
But you can still gather a lot from this chart. Poor people from Missouri, especially in the black areas are not veterans, but neither are poor Whites from eastern Kentucky. Seems like Northern Idaho, Montana and Oregon (which do not have large military bases) have higher percentages of vets, as does much of the north (Minnesota, no. Michigan, and Maine for example) but these areas are also less densely populated overall.
Nothing brave about killing-shooting-bombing civilians into the dark ages!
Shame on us/US.
Say that to the families who lost their sons to the civilians.
Evidently Alaska is the last refuge.
Frankly, by looking at California and New York, it would appear that Vets are the smartest subset of the American piublic.
But whatever wisdom they have gained all began with a terrible choice to waste years of their life helping subjugate foreign, brown people for very low wages.

in all fairness some were yellow.
I have heard the same, "thank you for your service" my response is if you want to thank me, develop more than a room temperature I.Q. and stopping quoting trendy phrases like a parrot. Henry Kissinger is on record as calling soldiers just dumb beasts enforcing state department policy. It gave me hope when I was drafted seeing others who knew it was all bullshit.
I wasn't finished there, I later joined the border patrol. I thought hey I can get on board with this, people should not just be able to walk into the country illegally like it is a job fair. Little did I know when young, the border patrol is just something to make people think something is being done about something that is really pissing them off. The corporate US wants cheap labor and that is bottom line. It doesn't matter if drugs are smuggled or what is being done. They also want balkanization,. The aliens, most of them are just trying to survive and I have met many I have more respect for than the average American. Then you have the cholo la raza types who seeking militarization and lately you see them shipping in children by railroad cars who have basically been abducted and carrying all types of diseases. I have no doubt they will be placed into the right hands and trained to agitate similar to ISIS. The border patrol used to have a union of which I was a representative. You would be fired for that today. That have paid representatives who talk to congress on their behalf to avoid repercussions. They fire them for almost anything so agents just keep their mouths shut.
This ended the Vietnam war.
http://kennysideshow.blogspot.com/2008/12/soldiers-revolt.html
dublin, the link is a good read and as one who served in nam, very very true. the us army of that day is what I hope americans will emulate- we need to just not cooperate, refuse - and in the end perhaps eliminate the problem.
This graphic explains alot of the suck-assness that I see up here in the northeast, NY in particular. Alot of people I know run around saying "thank you for your service" whenever the topic comes up in conversation, usually its around the war holidays but my sis's BF said it to a Vietnam vet the other day at a garage sale.
All I could do was roll my eyes and think what a suck-ass. This fucking brainwashed statist mentality is everywhere.
Next thing you know, these MSM zombies will be thanking the school crossing guards for their service...
BTW, I am a vet and don't thank me for shit. Don't pat my shoulder, don't buy me a beer...don't even buy me a coffee. You weren't there when I signed my contract so you don't owe me anything. I did my time and that's it.
You know what...the next person that wants to thank me for my service, I should ask them to recite the pledge of allegiance or sing the national anthem instead, just to see if it'll sink in how foolish they sound.
So, who's a Vet? Both the guy that put in 23 years and retired, and the guy that got a Medical Discharge the 4th week of Basic cause he couldn't take it. Reserve? National Guard? Combat tours, or never left the States? Dates of Service? I never mention my service to strangers as I hate that "thankyou" crap.
Brave or too stupid to go to college? The ones who deserve to die in war are the old men who start them.
If you really want to thank me, support so-called 'isolationist' policies.
The Dogs of War are too ugly to let out for less than immediate defense of lives.
And the countries that allow their geopolitical players to play 'The Game of Thrones' pay for their ambitions in wonders that are never invented, and prosperity that was spent in foreign adventures rather than domestic productive enterprizes.
Words are cheap.
