Confused Hamas Demands Truce But Only On Its Terms
Judging by the total lack of reaction across any markets, traders are just as confused by the headlines blurting out of Hamas leader Mashaal:
- *SENIOR HAMAS OFFICIAL SAYS TRUCE TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON (ok great)
- *MASHAAL SAYS 'WE ARE FOR A TRUCE BUT WE ARE PATIENT' (wait... you just said)
- *MASHAAL SAYS NOBODY CAN DISARM PALESTINIAN RESISTANCE (hhmm)
- *MASHAAL SAYS HAMAS SEES 'NO REAL BREAKTHROUGH' IN TRUCE SEARCH (wait what?)
So there may be a truce, there may not be... Mashall adds "we are ready to accept a humanitarian truce" but any truce "must" mean a lifting of the embargo on Gaza; oh and "nobody can disarm the Palestinian resistance... does not sound too hopeful.

Gaza is a concentration camp. It's easy to steal someone's land and build a fence around what used to be his and then blame him because he tries to be free again. Israel is a criminal state. The Hamas is only a reaction to the injustice. If Israel wants security, it should fight the injustice it created rather than fight its symptoms. Nuff said.

HAMAS is a part of the Muslim Brotherhoood. In Egypt and in some other Arab countries such as Saudia Arabia and the UAE, the press is openly mocking HAMAS and the MB - and evening stating they are glad that Netanyahu is pounding them.

Netanyahu and the Tar Baby?
Whatever Hamas' history, who started them, what's messed up with their ideas, they are the leadership of the resistance of the people of Gaza now and are being shaped by that role.
Hamas' problem, the Gazans' problem, is that the status quo of the past 5 years was utterly unacceptable and left them with no power and no future. Their only possibility of escaping this dilemma - other than war - lay in a united front politically with the PA, but now, when that was finally achieved, the Israeli government, with the help of their Frankenstein's monster ISIS, concocted a war, bombarding Gaza and trying to seal it off tighter.
Israel's problem now is the rockets. Pitiful as they are, the IDF can't make Hamas stop shooting them off without a truce, and Hamas is settig a high price for it. So now the IDF is moving into Gaza to make the Gazans stop, and it's not working. It's putting Israeli soldiers within range of their small arms, IED's and anti-tank rockets, and now Israelis are dying too. The Gazans have them by the short ones now! They are setting terms for letting the IDF get out - which as long as the Israelis feel they can't retreat under fire finally gives them some power.
Perhaps we could call this Hamas' Tar Baby strategy. It requires a lot of people to be willing to die and to perhaps see their loved ones die, but that's what it takes to win a war sometimes, right? I mean, think about Vietnam.

It doesn’t sound hopeful for a truce because Israel refuses to open an exit so the Gazans can have at least some commercial interaction through their border with Egypt. Since the military overthrow of Morsi, Egypt and Israel have been working together to continue tightening the Egyptian border with Gaza effectively cutting them off from outside commerce and humanitarian interchanges. Fortunately, the people of Egypt in many cases would welcome the chances for trade and interchanges.
Here’s Rabbi Dvor Lior: “Therefore, in a time of war, the attack nation is permitted to punish the enemy population with whatever measures it deems proper, like blocking supplies or electricity. It may bomb the entire area based on the judgment of the war minister and not wantonly put soldiers at risk… Deterrent measures to exterminate the enemy” are allowed (as reported by Haaretz on RT today).
Should the Jews be deported

Israel has lost too many soldiers for them to agree to a truce. They will carry this all the way through, destroying any tunnels or weapons they find, and ignoring both Hamas casualty numbers and how high the rubble gets.
