Pentagon Says Russia Preparing To Transfer "Powerful Weapons" To Ukraine
No red lines, no YouTube clips, no "satellite images" of WMD this time: just more "straight to propaganda" speculation by the Pentagon. From Reuters:
The Pentagon said on Friday the transfer of heavy-caliber multiple-launch rocket systems from Russia to Ukrainian separatists appeared to be imminent with the arms close enough to the border they could be handed over "potentially today."
"We have indications that the Russians intend to supply heavier and more sophisticated multiple-launch rocket systems in the very near future," said Army Colonel Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman, adding that the weapons were in the over-200mm range.
Warren indicated the weapons had been seen getting closer to the border and the Pentagon believed a transfer was imminent and could happen "potentially today."
"We believe that they are able to transfer this equipment at any time, at any moment," he said.
So Russia "could", "potentially today" transfer rocket launchers to Ukraine. But wait, wasn't the same Pentagon reporting hours ago that Russia is now, with the entire world clearly watching, no longer even pretending to be not engaged and is firing at Ukraine forces directly from its own territory? Why would they stop now? And surely with every US spy satellite trained at east Ukraine, the moment this happens it will be blasted to every media outlet. Right?

A multiple-launch rocket system is a wheeled or tracked vehicle mounted with multiple tubes capable of firing a half dozen or more guided or unguided rockets in quick succession at targets scores of miles (km) away. The rockets are generally 100mm to 300mm, with those over 200mm in the heavier-caliber category.
"We're very concerned with the quantity and the capability of weapons flowing from Russia into the Ukrainian separatists' hands," Warren said.
"There has been a continuous flow over the last several weeks of weapons and equipment from Russia to Ukraine," he said, noting that the "most egregious example" was a column of more than 100 vehicles crossing the border.
The Pentagon's assessment that a transfer of heavy weaponry was imminent came as Russian authorities accused Ukraine of firing a volley of mortar rounds across the frontier into Russia on Friday while a group of investigators was in the area assessing reports of cross-border shooting.
A Russian security official said up to 40 mortar bombs fired by Ukrainian forces fell in the Russian province of Rostov near the border where Ukrainian government forces are fighting pro-Russian separatists. There were no reports of injuries.

There was no information in there at all. Whichever side you take, you would come out of this interview with the same side you started with.
RT has a pro-Russian slant. It is a pro-Russian station. I think most everyone would agree with that. They are not balanced or independent journalism. So for the RT guy to make the Russian talking points makes sense. The ongoing project, however, is to make clear to people that CNN (and the other MSM as well, including FOX) is playing the exact same role for the US side. If Russia wanted to fight a war in Ukraine, they would already have crossed the border explicitly.
It appears to me that the Russians are doing what the US says it does everywhere, but in the Russian case, there is a logic lacking on the part of the US. Russia is giving support to ethnic Russians who are defending themselves from forced assimilation into a system they do not grant legitimacy. There is strong logic to that stance, especially since this is RUSSIA's BORDER!!! The US could make similar arguments if they sent arms to parts of Canada which were being suspiciously run by a Russian-backed government that had an unclear mandate for leadership. But that's not remotely the position the US is in.
The US role in Ukraine is abhorrent and has zero to do with the popular will of the people of the US. That this is what we are supposed to rally around to be patriotic? It's sickening.

The 'rebels' seem to be doing pretty well with what they have got. It seems all they need are more soldiers, self propelled morters/guns/AA, tanks etc i.e. old tech gear that is easy for the semi-trained to operate.
Were they to get attack helicopters/more than one SU25 that would be a game changer.
But, as breaking the morale of the Ukrainian Army must be one of the biggest targets for the 'rebels, perhaps the US announcing a new 'super' weapon arriving is just the biscuit.

I must confess to getting pretty confused at times.

Is it possible that a "major terror incident" will happen which will distract the world while something else even more evil goes on?

I DO believe that it comes down to one of two choices, war or revelation of some truth (which is an actual fact). It's clear from reading Russian and Donbass social media that pressure on Putin to help the rebels is white hot. Too many pictures of dead civilians are hitting youtube and the Russian media channels. Reports from the Self Defense Force fighters of winning battles but still being forced to give ground because of Kiev's unlimited heavy artillery, multiple rocket launchers and air support. Also mass tank columns that are simply too big to be stopped. All the rebels are asking for is the arms to make it an even fight. Ukraine is now entering it's third military draft order. The first two drafts have already been chewed up by the fight in the east. Now a whole new draft call up is needed. Check even Ukrainian media, they can't hide the protests over this new call up, and the hundreds of mothers who do not know where their sons are who were called up in the last two drafts. Dead or captured most likley. 3,500 of them are registered as deserters by the rebel administration, plus Russia has several hundred Ukrainian soldiers who ran across the border. A hospital in Rostov has several dozen Ukie wounded who came across to get medical help, which Russia has gave them.
Look, Ukraine is broke, no money for soldiers pay, but the USA will send what they need to keep fighting. But the overall economy is in collapse. The government just fell. Winter is coming and the fuel price increases are coming into effect. Russia has shut off their gas. Putin needs to keep the East Ukraine fighters equipped for defense until AMerica's Kiev experiment in fascism collapses into an internal blood bath by February or March. Maybe earlier/
Russia has sent some heavy weapons, but not enough. Rumor out of Russia is that because of recent Ukie advances and the rebels lack of tanks and artillery, Russia will begin a new round of supply for the rebels. if they do not, then the rebels could be defeated by October.

Given that the Russian and Ukrainian militaries have worked together since WW2 there will be a lot of 'commrades in arms' which would lead to information interchange. In addition, the Russians built the equipment in the Ukrainian communications, command and control systems so there are probably back doors there plus detailed knowledge of its physical routing. Finally, the GRU is bound to have a very strong physical presence in the country.
The more the Ukrainian solders think there is a fifth column operating the lower there morale will be so that is a key GRU objective. Seems to be working.
More moral 'boosting' is when their Government says (and its on the web so must be true as the US says) it is losing dead 30:1 to the rebels along with lots of gear destroyed, desertion is a big problem and it is out of money next week so thay won't get paid. All the US will say is that they can have $33million by the end of the year.
