Runaway Ebola-Infected Woman Dies As US Doctor Tests Positive For Virus

Tyler Durden's picture

It continues to go from bad to worse for Africa's "deadliest ever" Ebola epidemic which has officially claimed well over 600 lives, and unofficially many more.

Following the death of a Liberian government worker two days ago who collapsed in the international airport of Nigeria's 20-million megacity, Lagos which resulted in a "red alert" Nigeria clamping down into a quasi-quarantine state, sending specialists to airports and seaports fo containment, overnight we got an update on the other major Ebola story from last week, namely the female patient whose family broke her out of a hospital in Sierra Leone's capital Freetown, and who had been on the loose of several days, leading to a nationwide hunt. She has passed away, dying in an ambulance on the way to hospital, Reuters reports.

Amadu Sisi, a senior doctor at King Harman hospital in the capital Freetown, from which the patient was taken, said on Saturday that police found her in the house of a healer. Her family refused to hand her over and a struggle ensued with police, who finally retrieved her and sent her to hospital, he said. "She died in the ambulance on the way to another hospital," Sisi said.

Sierra Leone is now the African country with the highest number of Ebola cases, at least 454, surpassing neighboring Ginea where the outbreak allegedly originated in February. What is making things worse and is hindering the containment is that fear and mistrust of health workers in Sierra Leone, where many have more faith in traditional medicine. And over the past few days, this has culminated in crowds gathered outside clinics and hospitals to protest against what they see as a conspiracy, in some cases clashing with police as they threatened to burn down the buildings and remove the patients.

The hostility against the doctors is threatening the stability of the country itself:

Police were guarding the country's main Ebola hospital in Kenema in the West African country's remote east on Saturday, where dozens are receiving treatment for the virus.

Thousands had gathered outside the clinic the day before, threatening to burn it down and remove the patients. Residents said police fired tear gas to disperse the crowds and that a 9-year-old boy was shot in the leg by a police bullet.

Assistant Inspector General Alfred Karrow-Kamara said on Saturday the protest was sparked by a former nurse who had told a crowd at a nearby fish market that "Ebola was unreal and a gimmick aimed at carrying out cannibalistic rituals".

He said calm had been restored to Kenema on Saturday, adding that a strong armed police presence was in place around the clinic and the local police station.

Some health workers from the clinic have been reported absent from work because of "misconceptions by some members of the community," according to a local doctor.

It has gotten so serious, even the country's president has had to intervene: President Ernest Bai Koroma said on Saturday the government planned to "intensify activities and interventions in containing the disease and stopping it spread" with a view to ending the disease within 60 to 90 days.

And while the US public has been generally unaware of the severity of the breakout, this may soon change following news that a 33-year-old US doctor working for relief organization Samaritan's Purse in Liberia was the latest to test positive for the disease on Saturday. Telegraph reports:

The charity Samaritan's Purse issued a news release Saturday saying Dr Kent Brantly was being treated at a hospital in Monrovia, the capital. DR Brantly had been serving as medical director for the aid organisation's case management centre there.

Photos of Dr Brantly working in Liberia show him in white coveralls made of a synthetic material that he wore for hours a day while treating Ebola patients.

Brantly was quoted in a posting on the organization's website earlier this year about efforts to maintain an isolation ward for patients.

"The hospital is taking great effort to be prepared," Dr Brantly said. "In past Ebola outbreaks, many of the casualties have been healthcare workers who contracted the disease through their work caring for infected individuals."

Dr. Kent Brantly (right) with colleagues Stephen Snell (left) and an unidentified doctor at center in a Facebook photo posted May 25, 2013 (via NYDailyNews)

Kent Brantley pictured with his wife and children:

And a picture of the infected doctor wearing full protective garb (left) treating an infected patient:

Is Dr Brantly's infection a possible link to bring the African epidemic into the US? Unlikely, but his family is an open question: "Samaritan's Purse spokeswoman Melissa Strickland says Dr Brantly's wife and children had been living with him in Africa but are currently in the US."

For now, one can only hope that even as the infection appears on the verge of breaking out of its west-African containment, that the local authorities will somehow magically prevent further spreading of the epidemic whose mortality rate is between 60% and 90%.

"Twenty laboratories and research sites around the world, including in Canada, Japan, Israel, Uganda, and the United States are working simultaneously to develop manmade antibodies against Ebola virus.

an international team of researchers has stepped up production of experimental antibodies that scientists say have the potential to cure people infected with the virus, which has a 90 percent fatality rate. "

(Of course, it is tin-foil hat insanity to think any of those labs or research sites are possibly attempting to weaponize this deadly virus.)

Those labs most likely are not trying to develop a weaponized version.  Most likely at least one doc/scientist in each one has been coopted to report on findings and progress to the people who are making weaponized versions so those can be strengthened.

Probably, but Krugman's a retard.

To get the full broken window pandemic benefit of his alien fantasies- Krugman needs a flu outbreak that kills a few hundred million but keeps the spice flowing and the mindless consumers in restaurants, stores and car dealerships spending themselves further into bondage.

An ebola outbreak that only kills a few hundred thousand in the developed world is likely to cause an economic Armageddon with huge swaths of the population hiding under the mattresses, impacting both production and consumption.

if you understand the "mechanics" behind a

sweat-activated vaccine

Our favorite project to come under the Gates umbrella: sweat-triggered vaccine delivery. Developed at the Helmholtz Center for Infection Research in Germany, this novel vaccine delivery system employs nanoparticles that mimic pollen, which has shown the ability to penetrate human skin through hair follicles. Upon contact with human sweat, the nanoparticles burst, delivering antigens and adjuvants that deliver the vaccine through dendritic cells that cluster around hair follicles.

then let your mind ponder how aerosoled delivery of

whatever they'd like to "test" on humans

is already under way.

look up at the sky some day. . .

it's not like they haven't been running these tests for years now,

In Senate subcommittee hearings in 1977, the U.S. Army revealed that weeks before Mr. Nevin sickened and died, the Army had staged a mock biological attack on San Francisco, secretly spraying the city with Serratia and other agents thought to be harmless.

This thing is out of control.  Ebola loose in a city of 2 million with an open airport and flights to everywhere is apocalyptic.  Africa needs to be put on worldwide lock down. It's not airborne at all.
And yes, there where ebola outbreaks in italy last year, but easely all contained.
The biggest problem is the africans themselves who don't trust medicin doctors and now they'll all go into hidding once they're sick and this is why the outbreak so far has been so big.
But it's pretty clear that at some point, they'll need to close down the borders.

I have to ask a question that will get me flamed for sure...

Why in the hell do we put up with allowing these blood-thirsty, filthy, savages into our spaces, our countries, and our lives? We have nothing in common with them. Nothing. Almost all (statistically all) of them are useless to an extreme. We welcome them into our spaces for what? So we can shovel taxpayer funds into their pockets? Almost every single thing that they have is given to them....including food, shelter and education. The latter is almost completely wasted.

It is high time that we acknowledge that these creatures are not like us. We are not like them. We are different. Our differences make us incompatible.

Economic differences are not what Im talking about here. Im sure that Michael Jordan and Bill Cosby would find me to be a bit of a savage. Im talking about physical differences. Im talking about social differences.

Those differences will become very obvious when things let fly. Maybe we will find a few similarities as well, but by and large, we (europeans) have practise being civilized and following social norms. The act of warfare and related activities not withstanding. They do not.

Katrina showed us this on a much smaller scale.

Prepare. It doesn't take much.

Having the security of that extra 60-180 days of nourishment can make the difference between life and death for you and your loved ones going forward. Everyday that you can self-sustain is another day that your enemies and the savages will be in mortal combat for life. You grow stronger. They grow weaker.

We all have to go sometime and I would very much appreciate going out on terms that I dictate. That's what I'm buying when I do some basic, logical, preparing. I'm buying a seat at the table and at least some modicum of "say-so".

Who said anything about killing? My post was about surviving, not killing. You've missed the point. I am referring to those people that we foolishly "allow" to come into the US for no benefit of our society or, for that matter, mankind...not peeps that were born here. However, you've given me food for thought.

Africans likely do a lot of things better than "homeros". They will do what they do best. I'll leave that for the reader to determine what it is that they do best.

In the meantime, prepare. You can dictate the future to some degree. You can also end up on the menu or as another statistic. Being smug is no way to go through life.

You can love all of God's creatures equally if you like. I don't have the brotherly love gene in my body. I DO have the "neighborly" gene in my body. There is a difference. Remember that some of God's creatures are lions. Ebola is yet another of His creatures. At least one of my immediate neighbors is African, BTW, and we are already preparing together.

the ebola virus may, or may not get out but they are playing a very dangerous game, as far as i am aware the faa has not restricted any flights into or out of this area, they have not instituted any additional boarding requirements nor health requirements.  this virus has a variable incubation period, from my best research up to 30 days and an atypical symtemic onset, i.e. you might just feel a little under the weather like a cold for a day or so before full onset.

i believe it is already out.

I think Largo showed it is already out... what realistically are the chances of containment once it's found it's way to a major airport?

how many people did this man come into contact with during the incubation period? how many did they come into contact with and so on and so forth?

how many then carried the virus on to all different points from that airport and passed it on to others at various major airports and transport hubs? how many brought it home to their families, friends and co-workers? how many now kissing a wife, a husband, a child...how many bought a hooker at a convention or a street corner far away from Largo? how many accidents where some good seminarian or EMT, wanting to help unknowingly became another link in the chain of transmission?

the possibilities for spreading it are endless and endlessly expanding.

we are however extremely fortunate in the fact that Ebola does not spread through the air as we would be well and truly fucked if it did. I think that will be what saves us and keeps this from being a project blue type major pandemic. still though I suspect it will leave quite a lasting impression before all is said and done.

if nothing else it certainly does give reason to pause and reflect on just how tenuous our position as the dominant species on this rock really is and that, at any time, we could find ourselves nixed should mother nature choose.

of course, with the way things are going chances are we will do it ourselves first...

Sensibly, all you need are three cans of food a day to survive.

One can tuna.
One can vegetable.
One can fruit (drink the juice)

Eight bottles of water.

Dietary supplements like protein shakes and vitamins are helpful.

Go out and shop.

Protein Powder

Psyllium (so protein doesn't cause constipation)

Plenty of water.

One can live for a long time on those three alone.

Especially if one stays put.

But if you need/want to venture out for other edibles, then you'll also want to pack some carbohydrates for energy.

While you may "survive" without protein, you will be wasted away and weak as all get out. Your body will eat your muscle tissue, leaving you in a very bad predicament to fend off enemies of the human, parasite, viral, bactera and yeast varieties.

Not a strategy for winning.

Land whales are even worse off because their fat to muscle ratio would quickly leave them with no muscle and all fat- a land jellyfish, if you will.

I am well practiced survivalist and I would not (and do not) expect to make it long without protein and fiber. And, carbohydrates if you are doing anything even minimally strenuous.

For gods' sake, don't eat tuna except with caution.  There are a lot of mercury poisoning cases out there.  Even the FDA (which doesn't give a crap) recommends this limit:  "Despite the data presented in this new report, the FDA says it stands by its recommendations of a maximum of 12 ounces a week of canned light tuna and 6 ounces of albacore. Six ounces is the equivalent of an average can of tuna."

So even the worthless FDA is saying only two cans a week for an adult.  Kids are really, really vulnerable.  From the article below:  "The authors added that albacore tuna should never be given to children."

Here's a good article (especially if you have kids please read it!!!!!), but google around and read more if you eat tuna:  http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/250554.php

It should not be the basis for a food survival plan, except maybe for swapping for something else.

Some of you like conspiracy for this.

I have one word, so much more terrifying...

CLUSTERFUCK

The distrust of the locals, beaking out their sick family members, fighting off people who are trying to "retreive" sick family, threatening to burn the clinic...

They trust "authority" as far as they can throw them for a reason.

You reap what you sow.

"We are the government and we are here to help." "Fuck off and die, cannibals! Stay the fuck away."

You reap what you sow.   This is clearly what has been sown with the populace. How much harder does this make containment when you have to hunt down contagious people who, with family members are AGGRESSIVELY resisting you? Conspiracy. Don't know, doubt it. CLUSTERFUCK? As Sara sez, "You betcha." Conspiracy implies someone is in control. Clusterfuck is the total lack of a shared definition of the situation or an agreed upon action plan, the dead opposite of conspiracy. Arrogance, ignorance, fear, all of these things are in play. This is an abyss, apocolyptic horseman stuff.  It is not if, it is when. Mother nature has her own ideas about things.

Cathartes,

I respect you.

Because of that, maybe a week ago, I started to look at some of the documents associated with what folks term Agenda 21 (documents from the first meeting outlining it). I don't have an opinion yet, I am open to the idea there is a big "plan" afoot, but I am also open to the idea that people have taken some things that were discussed at a meeting and blown them up into a world wide conspiracy. One can connect dots that are not there. Writng stories is a great survival mechanism. I don't just intuitively go to conspiracy easily. The financial stuff took me a while to swallow. Once I understood that it was not "conspiracy" per se, so much as groups of people with lots of money and similarly aligned interests lobbying for the same concessions to their world view, I was able to swallow the medicine.

Here is what I would ask you. As you read this article, what, specifically, do you think is the "conspiracy" issue associated with Agenda 21 that I should focus on in this article?

Drama is not needed for depopulation. Raise standards of living, educate folks, and funny, folks don't get pregnant and want to have as many kids in the first place. We know this from Europe and Japan and the US (yeah there is immigration). My point is depopulation can happen without planting bugs and deliberately poisoning folks. As the possibilities for life expand, kids are not at the top of the list as something necessary for survival. No one needs to be eradicated or forced into anything.

and I have respect for much of what you've contributed here over the years, MsC.

I am not sure why you are asking me to limit a response to "Agenda 21" and "this article" as it unnecessarily excludes a much wider "agenda" that has been ongoing since before either of us were born.

Sierra Leone is now the African country with the highest number of Ebola cases, at least 454, surpassing neighboring Ginea where the outbreak allegedly originated in February. What is making things worse and is hindering the containment is that fear and mistrust of health workers in Sierra Leone

I linked this blog story in another post, which draws enough parallels, and the blog has some history with regards keeping tabs on the bio-epidemic "explorations" of the past decade.  there are, of course, many others writing along the same subject.

as to "Agenda 21" specifically?  coming from a "united nations" platform, with "sustainability" and "human resource control" as buzzwords that infiltrate the media, thus softening up minds for the ongoing motions being passed in each "nationstate", one needs to do their own deep research to form their perspective on this.  to take artificial political or religious "sides" is to play into their collective "hands" as most are being played - nation against nation, human against human. . .

The specific plan, United Nations Agenda 21 Sustainable Development, is to be implemented worldwide in order to inventory and control all land, all water, all minerals, all plants, all animals, all construction, all means of production, all energy, all education, all information, and all human beings in the world.

and so, even though the white western corporations are joining with the Chinese in an African land & resource grab these past decades - and the removal of the pesky humans that live on those rich-lands is increasingly necessary - many westerners are being fed stories of "those people" spreading disease because they are "lesser" humans overall - and your schooling as a professor surely must allow you to see the steering of cultures towards fear and hatred, thus "war" - declared or otherwise.

simply stated, the "agenda" is control of resources.

inclusive of monies, nations, lands, and humans.  this has been the game all along, the territory has merely expanded to include the "planet".

that's the "agenda", long-term, incremental, ongoing.

... this virus has a variable incubation period ...

Variants of the known forms of Thread Virus (Ebola Zaire, Ebola Sudan, Ebola Reston, and Marburg) have an incubation period between 4 and 21 days.  The first diagnostic is a terrible headache and back pain. The Reston strain (discovered in Reston, VA, USA in 1989) was disseminated through airborn particulate - think sneezing monkey mist.  The Reston mutation infected mostly monkeys and the few humans who contracted the strain did not die.

It is still unknown how the virus moved from the Kitum cave in central Africa to the Philippines.

For unknown reasons, ALL of the Ebola outbreaks have spontaneously gone away within a few months.

And Africa is, once again, going to be reminded of that sad  fact.

With all the changes in immigration law in Australia, New Zealand, France, England, Sweden, Denmark, Canada, the US, and all of the H1-B and myriad other work visas bringing in Asians and so forth into the US to take jobs that White Americans previously held, such as IT and in the case of Microsoft in Redmond WA even STOCKERS in their warehouse.

All of this immigration and refugees and chain immigration aka family reunification and the open borders to travellers from said third world areas, the US and Western and Nothern Europe and Australia and New Zealand are going to face BIG TROUBLE with these diseases, not limited to Ebola.

What is withheld from the American and other people is that this is all by DESIGN, not chance.

The same group that owns Hollywood, Wall Street and the US Senate and House, changed all these laws, that kept America safe and prosperous and, dare I say it? White and Christian.

I think tomorrow this clusterfuck of bad news from multiple places is gonna make investors get edgy. 7/28/14 has the numerology thing too. Way too much euphoria for way too long.

The numbers in the previous arical give the new cases as 108 from July 21 to July 23. Don't know if that is a 48 hour period or 72 hours. If 48 hours, that is an increase in total cases of 10% in 2 days or approx 5% per day. Using the law of 72, the number of total cases would double in 72/5 = 14.4 days. Call it 15 days. This means at current rates the disease growth is 4 fold per month. Using a start number of 1000 on July 20, that is 4,000 on August 20, 16,000 on September 20, 64,000 on October 20, 256,000 on November 20, 1,024,000 on December 20. Well you get the picture. If geography and containment efforts have been slowing the spread and it now becomes a problem in a city of 20,000,000 the the growth rate may be faster.

"Following the death of a Liberian government worker two days ago who collapsed in the international airport of Nigeria's 20-million megacity, Lagos which resulted in a "red alert" Nigeria clamping down into a quasi-quarantine state, sending specialists to airports and seaports fo containment, overnight we got an update on the other major Ebola story from last week, namely the female patient whose family broke her out of a hospital in Sierra Leone's capital Freetown, and who had been on the loose of several days, leading to a nationwide hunt"
