Democracy only works when the people within that system have relatively similar values and goals. Forcing two groups into a democratic framework that have devoted themselves to each other's destruction can only end badly. There is no solution here. Ultimately one side will prevail, neither being angelic or pure. If that is your goal then Ebola or nuclear war may be the only answer. There is NOTHING in life really fair. We are stuck with trying to figure out how to survive and make the best of things that we have. Purity, like utopia, is death, as none of it has anything to do with being human. Trying to right the wrongs of the past might make us feel better but will likely leave more wrongs than we started with. How many Palestinians and Jews must die before they realize that they are only creating more hate, more desire for revenge that will continue on for centuries. We live in a divisive world where trust and unity have suffered greatly. This will only get worse eventually where no one will trust anyone, which to me is the end of civilization.

Fairness, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. Although I believe there is often a lot of agreement.
The question imho is not whether life is fair, but whether it should be fair, and whether you and I contribute to fairness or not. On our death bed we can ask ourselves the question whether we have tried hard enough to be fair towards others and the world. The assertion that nothing is or was ever fair will be of little consolation.
And then trust. I have come to understand that trust is a prerequisite for peace. The complete breakdown of trus between the Jews and Palestinians makes the conflict impossible to solve without a third party. They are both trapped in a situation that they can not solve on their own.
For a third party to be trusted, that party would have to be absolutely impartial. That can only be achieved with a one-state solution with equal rights for all citizens.
That solution will have to be imposed.
If I were in power in Europe it is what I would advocate. That is what would seem fair for me to do.
