I've also noticed in recent days that Google's Dept.1984 now asks you to enter the text of a graphic window, before they return results on "controversial" information. Am now using other engines even more. QED.

duckduckgo.com It's gotten even better over the past 6 months. I love the single page results. I switch all my browsers over to use this engine.
I find it to be annoying (but I still use it). I don't like it that the entire search results text is a link, when many times, I just want to copy part of it for use elsewhere. Worst of all, just like Google, they hijack my damn click, rerouting me through their servers for no valid reason. I'm sure their defense is that they want to know which link I clicked to improve their search algorithms, but that can be done with a simple jquery command within the browser. There is simply no legitimate reason why they have to redirect my traffic through their servers. Especially when the link displayed doesn't show it.
So, I don't find them trustworthy either.

I use Startpage Search Engine. It's awesome. StartPage doesn't store your IP address, use tracking cookies, or make a record of your searches.

I was on facebook for a while but after receiving so many "friend requests" from people I didn't know and dicovering that no-one was reading the articles I would link to from many fab sites like ZH I decided to cancel it. It appears when you do so FB tells your "friends" that you have been de-friended which of course is taken as a personal distancing and very traumatic for some as was made apparent by several calls I recevied.
FB is the biggest friggin waste of time. Peeps think I am out of touch for not having a FB account. I think they are damn idiots for having one.

How the FUCK does the entire Facebook go down? Would'nt there be multiple server clusters for all of the data, sepeate clusters for processing the client-side requests and then double all that for fall-over?
That is a very good question, those who know about IT know they are running multipe web farms all over the world. How is it that just one thing brings the whole thing to a screetching halt? Last time i seen something like that, they took something down to scrub the data out of the system before bringing it back online. (tinfoil hat)
Improper code deployment could also have caused the issue. It doesn't matter how many clusters you have, if bad code is deployed, the whole thing breaks.

But one thing I have noticed over a few years, is the steady decreasing number of actual people and friends who post and the higher percent of content being from groups or pages that I follow. Really turning more into an actual news feed from various alternative media I follow that actual friends sharing or communicating.
Now call that a trend of "individuals" not using FB or FB manipulating the news feed, I don't know.... just an observation for what ever it is worth.... maybe only 2 cents....

Finally got a FB late last year because no one would communicate with me any other way, and I was completely isolated. Quickly realized that FB is the very heart of The Matrix. Deactivated the account and am back to being completely isolated, but at least I'm back out of The Matrix. Once you take the red pill you can never go back.
