WHO Warns Ebola Outbreak Out Of Control, "High Risk Of Spread To Other Countries"

Tyler Durden's picture

Things just went to 11 on the Spinal-Tap amplifier of massive infectious disease outbreaks. As AP reports, the Ebola outbreak that has killed more than 700 people in West Africa is moving faster than the efforts to control the disease, the head of the World Health Organization warned. Dr. Margaret Chan pulled no punches in her direct statement, "If the situation continues to deteriorate, the consequences can be catastrophic in terms of lost lives but also severe socio-economic disruption and a high risk of spread to other countries." Time to panic?

As AP reports,

Dr. Margaret Chan, director-general of the World Health Organization, said the meeting in Conakry "must be a turning point" in the battle against Ebola, which is now sickening people in three African capitals for the first time in history.

...

At least 729 people in four countries — Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria — have died since cases first emerged back in March. Two American health workers in Liberia have been infected, and an American man of Liberian descent died in Nigeria from the disease, health authorities there say.

While health officials say the virus is transmitted only through direct contact with bodily fluids, many sick patients have refused to go to isolation centers and have infected family members and other caregivers.

The fatality rate has been about 60 percent, and the scenes of patients bleeding from the eyes, mouth and ears has led many relatives to keep their sick family members at home instead.

...

"Constant mutation and adaptation are the survival mechanisms of viruses and other microbes," she said. "We must not give this virus opportunities to deliver more surprises."

...

"I believe we're only seeing a small portion of the cases out there ... The virus is getting to large, dense, city areas. We're now getting samples (to test) from all over," he said Friday.

...

Meanwhile, other countries are taking precautions to prevent the spread of Ebola.

Interestingly, worries are spreading quickly as one Commonwealth Games competitor found:

a cyclist from Sierra Leone competed in the Commonwealth Games after being tested for Ebola. Moses Sesay, 32, was admitted to a Glasgow hospital last week after feeling unwell, and doctors tested him for various conditions including Ebola. Sesay was passed fit, and released from hospital in time to compete in the individual time trial on Thursday.

Yahoo has kindly provided this 'panic sheet' for where the nearest CDC quarantine stations are in the US...

Ebola spreads and mutates. It will be a nightmare for the government and financial markets.

Besides killing people it kills demand and growth.

Imagine cutting 90% profits for most companies. How about 100% of the eateries, bars, etc as people don't want to risk getting the disease? Travel is avoided.

But is it in anticipation of Ebola?? "Sore throat" is mentioned to be a less common early indicator for Ebola, but that is the only "near respiratory" symptom I could find.

The current cases in Colorado of another nasty - on the other hand - has more respiratory symptoms along with the fever, headache and nausea, that Ebola also has.

"Although the quarantining of people suspected of being infected with the Ebola virus seems like a perfectly logical move, the actual preconditions for this to happen aren’t restricted to just those suffering from the disease.

As we highlighted earlier this week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has measures in place for dealing with an outbreak of a communicable disease which allow for the quarantine of “well persons” who “do not show symptoms” of the disease.

In addition, under the Model State Emergency Health Powers Act, public health authorities and governors would be given expanded police powers to seize control of communications devices, public and private property, as well as a host of other draconian measures in the event of a public health emergency.

When the legislation was introduced, the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons warned that it “could turn governors into dictators."

so my understanding is no, for ebola - but, there was this about 5 years ago:

http://vitals.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/09/27/14127587-new-virus-in-africa-...

So not to pile on the paranoia, but when you hear about "ebola cases" - bear in mind, it might not always in face be ebola.

Because they're looking for ebola, there's an expectation bias, and they might not in the field realize its something else - in theory, anyway.

It doesn't travel "casually" and that includes flies. This is a virus, not a bacterium, entirely different things. Anytime when we mention that ebola might become "airborne" that really means via sneezes and coughs, because at that point it is inside the lungs and manages to ride a tiny droplet out and survive exposure to air and sunlight. For a virus that is a huge trick. There are many that master it (the common cold is one) but so far the deadly strains of ebola have not. Restonii is airborne, but it isn't lethal to humans, but sometimes people get restonii and the current strain (so far unnamed) mixed up.

Um,read a good book on the 1919 flu epidemic a while back.Seems all the army recruits were huddling around the barracks heaters to keep warm in winter. Also there was a nasty diptheria epidemic in Nome, Alaska years ago.I think the vector will explode if (a) people are indoors interacting and (b) lots of wars, refugees camps, overcrowding (Gaza?).Also, people still alive after WW1 were malnourished, reducing their immunity.

Oddly enough just being stressed out about ones health is counterproductive when you think about it.

I agree.I think the bug has aerosolized and everyone in DC is shitting themselves. Not long now before the roadblocks go up in the countryside.

You raise a good point. If West Africans have been being preyed upon by various fever viruses since the Dawn of Mankind, and current residences are the survivors of generations of Ebola-type diseases, then the spread of this kind of disease should be slower there than other parts of the world. And if the ancestors left Africa to get away from everything there trying to kill them, then everyone else in the world should be easy prey for this virus since they missed out on generations of fights.

So would a 60% mortality rate in West Africa mean a 90% mortality in a green-field America or Asia?

Once the panic really sets-in people will become desperate.

Well Fuck me.....ya'll won't know anything about this, but about 4 years ago the entire Ag Sector was terrified by a big scare of the spread of soybean rust out of south America.   The solution.....FUNGICIDE APPLICATIONS...LOTS OF THEM...PREVENTATIVE AND CURATIVE....another 40-60 dollars PER ACRE added cost and every farmer was shitting himself, running to the front of the line to apply fungicides....and the entire scenario never materialized....in fact, I've never heard anyone even mention it in the past four years....but Big Chemical raised the prices of everything and had stupid fuck farmers like myself spending money like we could pull it out of our ass at will.

Fuck this shit....When Geraldo Rivera...that stupid cocksucker shows up  with his Grim Reaper Routine on Fox..hovering and crying over the Ebola victims with blood running out of their ass....that's when you know the fucking end is near.

On an unrelated note because I respect you all's opinions,

Sent my son to spend a week on the farm with my dad. Let him bring back a kitten that had been attacked or something and had a maggot infestation (neck wouund boiling with maggots). Son cleared the maggots and nursed the kitten back to health. Kitten has FIP, which is universally fatal. When the cat needs it, you think I should let him (12yo) be the one to put the cat down if he wants the job? Obviously, I will offer to do the job but...Let the kid do it and grow? Really proud of my guy for taking responsibility and being a "dad" to a prematurely weaned kitten.

My 89 year old father in law (a WWII vet who grew up dirt poor in the coal region of PA, and went on to become a prof) is still traumatized by having been sent by his mom to drown a bag of kittens.  Now, he was told to do it, not given the option of doing it.  And he doesn't say he is still upset by it (but he is).  I know about it because a few years ago he gave me some cash to buy food for some stray cats (and boy is he frugal, so that was something), and that was when he told me about it.  It was nearly 80 years ago, but it's as vivid to him as yesterday.

I think you should do it.  He may not be old enough to judge how the experience will affect him.

It sounds like he is a great kid; a great budding human being.

I suggest you become familiar with services you would not normally use so you don't have to go out amongst the public. One such service would be more than one type of telephone. As for Survivalblog.com...  Anyone who sees America going into the toilet would, reasonably, want to know as much as he can about taking care of himself and his family in a second or third world situation. survivalblog.com is an education some may want or others may not want. Suit yourself.

Pelosi and Obummer will be making a breaidcast  on Tuesday.

This is all the fault of the Hitlerian Putin gangster and his KGB henchmen.

They deiberately created this monster virus in thier labs and seeded it in Afrca with the sole intention of cultivating it and  then  have diabolican plans, uncovered by our fantastic CIA and NSA by hacking into every grandmothers bank account and facebook page and listening to her phone calls to the kids, plans to ship the rotting infected  corpses  from Africa and dropping then from ballons armed with mincers as they pass over populated areas.

And we can tell you that any American infected was done a s direct result of orders from Putin.

We need moar emergency powers and the Kind POTUS has decreed and issued an edict that says that everyone must have cover on thier plans  that will cost cost a measly $18,000 each per year so that our great American Insurance companies can finance the Great American Drug companies to find a way  reducing the headaches you might get as your dehydrated flesh decomposes.

We are confident they will come up with something but  a cure is out of the question at this stage as we haven't yet set a committee to look at the ramifications of what the effect would be on bankers salary's and the consequence effects on the nations security and well being  and of course the economy.

As we are all in this together it behooves to move the Govt to safe location until the danger passes and we can issue  directives regarding war with Russia and how to pay your plans which you can keep  and of course your taxes to the IRS will will be moving its Principle offices to Hawaii, which will be blockaded from 2,000 miles from its shore with everything passing over around or anywhere in the world we perceive as a danger will be instantly nuked or vaporized or nuked as the case may be.

We are sure our fellow Americans will suffer this minor setback to our glorious leaders ambitions to yet get a hole on one, with dignity,  but he has plans to work tirelessly at his game whilst ensconced in the safety of his hidden retreat. And you can be sure they will be thinking of you  occasionally. Possibly.

Meanwhile all Hawaiian citizens are required to prepare to board the ships that will be arriving at 08 hundred to take then to Detroit where they can start a new life in the glorious mainland of or beloved USA. Personal possessions must be left behind as the ships are rather small  used for cattle transport as the larger ships are used to finance the upcoming war effort by being prepared for sale to the  the worlds billionaires.

Print this in case the internet goes down

A doctor who has remained anonymous and has worked with ebola victims has discovered this and sent it to this web site, at last check this cannot be googled which confirms this doctor did not just copy paste, SO POST IT EVERYWHERE; GET THIS OUT THERE, THE TREATMENT FOR EBOLA WHICH WILL PREVENT DEATH IS KNOWN AND THIS IS AN EMERGENCY REQUEST FOR MY READERS TO SPREAD THIS INFO AND STOP THIS EBOLA ATTACK IN ITS TRACKS.

From an anonymous doctor:

This is a lengthy article, DO NOT SURFACE READ. The actual treatment for ebola which will virtually eliminate fatalities, as revealed by a doctor who has worked with ebola, is below.

Consider this: The elite would never release a plague without an easy cure, and along with this ebola outbreak an American biowarfare firm has been working in Sierra Leon for the last five years. Google that. Sierra Leon has actually identified them as the perpetrators of this outbreak and kicked them out of the country. There is absolutely no doubt this outbreak was intentionally caused by the U.S. war department.

If you look at the western doctors working with patients, they are heavily protected against the claimed body fluid contact threat. What may have happened is that Ebola has gone airborne and they want to bring the US victims back to the US not only to treat them, but to study them closely. If it has gone airborne, that is very, very bad news.
