One general rule of government that history teaches is: Government always accomplishes the opposite of the stated goal. Always.

Mission statement of the CDC:

CDC works 24/7 to protect America from health, safety and security threats, both foreign and in the U.S. Whether diseases start at home or abroad, are chronic or acute, curable or preventable, human error or deliberate attack, CDC fights disease and supports communities and citizens to do the same.

CDC increases the health security of our nation. As the nation’s health protection agency, CDC saves lives and protects people from health threats. To accomplish our mission, CDC conducts critical science and provides health information that protects our nation against expensive and dangerous health threats, and responds when these arise.

I remember a guy who use to work in a CDC virology lab drawing out on a piece of paper the air flow at a containment lab. It didn't make any sense for containment. We all have been brainwashed that everyone at CIA is a genius ninja and CDC is a super genius. Most of the people are insecure short and fucking retarded.

Same wave length.

They treat this as a mere passing curiosity, kinda like LOSING a vial of small pox, its just out there, no reason to panic, I'm sure its just a clerical error easily corrected by adjusting the spreadsheet of chain of custody.

See, no problem ;-)

I'm still thinking New Mexico's half-mile-deep radioactive dump - the Waste Isolation Pilot Project (WIPP) - has CDC beat all to hell.

WIPP was designed to contain transuranic radioactive waste (the really nasty stuff) from nuclear weapons production. The waste is highly radioactive for 24,000 years. The nuclear industry was getting antsy to hide their piles of radioactive garbage somewhere, so they settled for a facility designed for 10,000 years of secure storage. By then, I guess we could just beam it to another dimension or some such nonsense.

So $19 Billion dollars later, they had the WIPP salt caves ready for use. They've been stuffing barrels of radioactive crap down there for about fifteen years now. This Februsary, they had some kind of exploding barrel accident that released aerosolized transuranics directly into the atmosphere outside the facility. Some sort of vent flapper malfunction design error and an unexpected use of kitty litter in a drum of nuclear waste. They still don't fully understand what happened and they've let more radioactive vapors leak out since then. The next 9,985 years of operation look 'iffy' because they contaminated damn near all the rest of the nuclear batcave.

On the bright side, plutonium is a neutron source and americium is a strong alpha emitter. One of them should fry any smallpox or ebola floating around southern New Mexico. If things get really bad outbreak-wise, just drive down to Carlsbad, roll around in the dirt and perform deep breathing exercises. See there - the NRC has just saved your sorry ass for free.

"I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing....only I will remain"

Far cry from "the only thing we have to fear....IS FEAR ITSELF!"

From "fear of the climate" to "climate of fear" is but a baby step.  I think we need to take care in these here parts from fanning these flames...not by failing to look at the absurd danger such a transfer can represent but in understanding that by creating such a danger may indeed be intentional...thus going beyond are "peculiar feelings" in the matter to creating an understanding that indeed "this may be part of somebody's game."

I recommend folks in these here parts start googling Game Theory to gleen an understanding that at a certain level we are all indeed "just a number."
