25 Critical Facts About This Ebola Outbreak That Every American Needs To Know

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Michael Snyder of The Economic Collapse blog,

What would a global pandemic look like for a disease that has no cure and that kills more than half of the people that it infects?  Let's hope that we don't get to find out, but what we do know is that more than 100 health workers that were on the front lines of fighting this disease have ended up getting it themselves.  The top health officials in the entire world are sounding the alarm and the phrase "out of control" is constantly being thrown around by professionals with decades of experience.  So should average Americans be concerned about Ebola?  If so, how bad could an Ebola outbreak in the U.S. potentially become?  The following are 25 critical facts about this Ebola outbreak that every American needs to know...

#1 As the chart below demonstrates, the spread of Ebola is starting to become exponential...

Ebola Outbreak - Photo by Leopoldo Martin R

#2 This is already the worst Ebola outbreak in recorded history by far.

#3 The head of the World Health Organization says that this outbreak "is moving faster than our efforts to control it".

#4 The head of Doctors Without Borders says that this outbreak is "out of control".

#5 So far, more than 100 health workers that were on the front lines fighting the virus have ended up contracting Ebola themselves.  This is happening despite the fact that they go to extraordinary lengths to keep from getting the disease.

#6 There is no cure for Ebola.

#7 The death rate for this current Ebola outbreak is over 50 percent, and experts say that it can kill "up to 90% of those infected".

#8 The incubation rate for Ebola ranges from two days to 21 days.  Therefore, someone can be carrying it around for up to three weeks without even knowing it.

#9 For the first time ever, human Ebola patients are being brought to the United States.  And as Paul Craig Roberts so aptly put it the other day, all it would take is "one cough, one sneeze, one drop of saliva, and the virus is loose".

#10 This has already potentially happened in the United Kingdom.  A woman reportedly collapsed and later died on Saturday after she got off of a flight from Sierra Leone at Gatwick Airport.

#11 A study conducted in 2012 proved that Ebola could be transmitted between pigs and monkeys that were in separate cages and that never made physical contact.

#12 This is a new strain of Ebola, so what we know about other strains of Ebola may not necessarily apply to this strain of Ebola.

#13 Barack Obama has just signed an executive order that gives the federal government the power to apprehend and detain Americans that show symptoms of "diseases that are associated with fever and signs and symptoms of pneumonia or other respiratory illness, are capable of being transmitted from person to person, and that either are causing, or have the potential to cause, a pandemic, or, upon infection, are highly likely to cause mortality or serious morbidity if not properly controlled."

#14 And as I noted the other day, federal law already permits "the apprehension and examination of any individual reasonably believed to be infected with a communicable disease".

#15 According to the CDC, there are 20 quarantine centers around the country that are prepared to potentially receive Ebola patients...

Ebola-quarantine-stations

#16 The CDC has set up an Ebola "quarantine station" at LAX in order to help prevent the spread of the virus.

#17 The largest health emergency drill in New York City history was conducted on Friday.

#18 The federal government will begin testing an "experimental Ebola vaccine" on humans in September.

#19 We are being told that the reason why we don't have an Ebola vaccine already is due to the hesitation of the pharmaceutical industry to invest in a disease that has "only affected people in Africa".

#20 Researchers from Tulane University have been active for several years in the very same areas where this Ebola outbreak began.  One of the stated purposes of this research was to study "the future use of fever-viruses as bioweapons".

#21 According to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation in Sierra Leone, researchers from Tulane University have been asked "to stop Ebola testing during the current Ebola outbreak".  What in the world does that mean?

#22 The Navy Times says that the U.S. military has been interested in studying Ebola "as a potential biological weapon" since the 1970s...

Filoviruses like Ebola have been of interest to the Pentagon since the late 1970s, mainly because Ebola and its fellow viruses have high mortality rates — in the current outbreak, roughly 60 percent to 72 percent of those who have contracted the disease have died — and its stable nature in aerosol make it attractive as a potential biological weapon.

#23 The CDC actually owns a patent on one particular strain of the Ebola virus...

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control owns a patent on a particular strain of Ebola known as "EboBun." It's patent No. CA2741523A1 and it was awarded in 2010. You can view it here.

It is being reported that this is not the same strain that is currently being transmitted in Africa, but it is interesting to note nonetheless.  And why would the CDC want "ownership" of a strain of the Ebola virus in the first place?

#24 The CDC has just put up a brand new webpage entitled "Infection Prevention and Control Recommendations for Hospitalized Patients with Known or Suspected Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever in U.S. Hospitals".

#25 The World Health Organization has launched a 100 million dollar response plan to fight this Ebola outbreak.  Others don't seem so alarmed.  For example, Barack Obama is getting ready to take a "16 day Martha’s Vineyard vacation".

Many are attempting to play down the threat from this virus by stating that unless you "exchange bodily fluids" with someone that you don't have anything to worry about.

If that was truly the case, then how in the world have more than 100 health workers contracted the virus so far?

Health professionals that deal with Ebola take extreme precautions to keep from being exposed to the disease.

But despite those extreme measures, they are catching it too.

So if this virus does start spreading all over the globe, what chance is the general population going to have?

If this thing really breaks loose, the grocery stores will be emptied in a few days at most, especially of long-term storage items like canned goods.

Consider well: the difference between the living and the dead, may be as simple as a can of Spam.

Give me a break! Ebola spreads by contact with infected animals (like bats) and by contact with bodily fluids (like AIDS). But unlike AIDS, the symptom-free infection window is very short. There is not going to be an Ebola epidemic in the US. Yes, a few infected people from Africa might make it into the US, but it is not going to be a big deal here.

Michael Snyder should change his name to "Chicken Little".

Wrong.  If it's become airborne, you no longer need the infected animals.   That's the entire nut -- if it goes airborne, it's another "flu".  Then you will have an epidemic in your own neighborhood Ripper.  Don't be too smug.

This is idiotic fear mongering.  The current ebola outbreak in Africa is a function of 3rd world medical care and neolithic hygienic practices. Filoviruses are not that easily transmitted.

Oh, and by the way, nearly 2,000 people died of malaria TODAY.  Where's the blog post on that?

@Quantum Nucleonics (great name, BTW) - - - youre applying logic and calm rational thinking. But, it seems that many people enjoy feeling scared and overwhelmed. They also seem to have forgotten (the supporting evidence is out there from mainstream sources) that blogs, forums, etc are targeted by those who seek to spread a particular meme for their own objectives. Doesn't matter if that meme is true or not. The goal is to further spread fear and offer their 'solution' to a 'problem'. Even if such agents of misinformation aren't actually here, fear is infectious among human beings.

Only a few years back there were trail balloons put out that people may even be forced to take vaccines to protect against the coming 'pandemic'. Despite the fear mongering, people would have none of it. They didn't take the vaccine. In the end, the pharma companies tried to foist the stuff on people overseas (which didn't work). They ended up dumping thousands of doses of the stuff. - - - - Many of the 'ADHD', t.v. addled population don't seem to remember that, or many other cases of the same thing.

Of course, when strong emotions like fear are involved, rationality takes a back seat. For many, it won't matter what evidence is presented.

Seems like Obama has opened the borders to kill Americans. Guess that includes members of Congress too. It is one hell of a coincidence if he didn't open the Mexican border so that the virus would spread throughout the US.

Looks like I'll book my flight to Burbank from Newark instead of to LAX.

This is starting to smell like another fear campaign from the Masters of The World. Terrorism isn't working so well these days as many are worried more about their jobs and future. I mean, for the average American family, do they really have any fear over international terrorism anymore. What terrorist would bomb their kids elementary school...of wait, strike that. But tell a family that their loved one could die from Ebola, watch out! And whatever happened to that SuperBug from a couple of years ago?

@ The Blank Stare:

EXACTLY!!!

I think the real idea here, is for a corporation to make money on a vaccine.

http://www.tekmira.com/partners/partnerships.php

Read the section on JPM-MCS:

In 2010, Tekmira signed a $140-million contract with the DoD to advance an RNAi therapeutic, which utilized our LNP technology, to treat Ebola virus infection. In 2013, the collaboration was expanded to include significant advances in LNP formulation technology, including a new LNP formulation that was more potent, the ability to be able to lyophilize (freeze-dry) LNP formulations and an LNP formulation that can be administered subcutaneously. In January 2014, Tekmira commenced TKM-Ebola Phase I clinical trial.

TRANSLATION:

Tekmira and the DoD have a shitload of money tied-up in a joint-venture project that started 4 years ago. At this point, the "product" is "just about ready" to go to market. What they need, is a 'hook' that guarantees good sales numbers for the product.

A TINY fraction of the Earth's population has been killed by Ebola...it gets serious when the death toll is north of a million.

Hygene. Africa is a hot and sweaty country that compaired to euope and america has less frequent practices of volume water baithing. Also crowded public transportation has more body contact than Europe or america. Also in west africa many areas (most) lack hygene plumbing or public septic pits, so human ground surface defication is not uncommon. Espically in Siera Leone. Much of the beach in west point there has so much human deficant that you must watch where you step. Froom this infected beach you can see fishing boats close to shore, and inside the beach are brothels where desperate women sell their services for as little as 25 cents US.  So, the US and Europe have much higher hygine standards and will be less likely to be as good a host as west africa.

You guys are looking in the wrong place for where this would make TSHTF. Its not New York or Miami or LA that will be wiped out - worrying about a single case in NYC is laughable. Its Lagos, Nigeria and the rest of Africa  that should make you afraid. Check out some google images of Lagos sometime...

Once Ebola gets going there, this whole thread will seem quaint and trivial. If its raging in Africa, the chance of it spreading elsewhere becomes very high, particularly southern Europe. If it makes it to Europe, it will eventually make it here. The only question is how long it will take...

Winter will help in Europe and the US as Ebola doesn't do so well in the cold, but if things really do go parabolic, Africa will lose millions (of course, maybe that's the whole idea)

we will all be called American Africans when this is all said and done and that has been the end game of diversity all along.  When opportunity and hard work meet you may enjoy success for a time.  When uncofnronted evil runs amok with no one with the integrity,  character,  calling or a combination of the above has the balls, backbone or will to confront it we will all pay the price.  I am 59 year old.  I have raised three daughters who are happily married to honest hard working men who are fathers to my now 5 grandkids with the last being added Saturday night.

I no longer recognize my country.  I am not a romantic or a sentimenalist but my heart breaks when I look around.  We are broken.  I did not raise my girls to live in fear,, I raised them to confront it.  My concern is that it is my generation that has allowed this cluster fuck to fester while we were out busting our balls raising our kids.  When I look at my grandkids ages 10 and down,  I dare not let my mind wander for too long.

IDRMC,  my new political party.  No democrat,, no republican bullshit.  IDRMC I Don't Recognize My Country.  We need to take it back.  Do I have any takers.  We need to run for city council,, school boards,  county boards,  village town hall seats.

We dont need fireman making 140K a year plus pensions and benefits for life.  Police and fire protection is a fire extinguiser and a 44 mag if you want to be honest about it.  Society is broken in so many ways we must start small.  When they give your 12 year old girl a condom take a porn film to their class and demand they show it to them.  When they teach 4th graders my two dads is ok,, show them an ass fucking film.  Let's stop the madness.  I am not a homophobe.  We just called them cocksuckers when I was a younger man.  We have come apart at the seams.

No rules,  no borders,  no integrity,  no honesty,  no fathers in most homes,  churches now being harrassed for teaching what the Bible says about homesexuality,  no leaders,  no backbone,  no future and no freedom of speech if it goes against the satanic PTB mantras.

Show me your friends and I'll show you your future.  America has long run out of friends.  We have become Europe soft.  And getting softer.  Oh there is a pill for that that my 10 year old grandaughter asked me about,,,,,,,,,, Rant offf,,,,,,

Reading on AJ now that many dozen from the four or so ebola diseased African countries have been caught at the US/Mexican border in 2014 so far.

And that is those who have been caught !

It is like a Tom Clancy plot.

the usa was administered a death sentence when it allowed ebola victims in this country. there will be a massive epidemic which will make the 1918 influenza outbreak look like a day at the health spa.....the usa is on the verge of a massive health crisis, and it was all planned.

atlanta and new york will be wiped out within 2 years. currently metro atlanta has 5-6 million people. in 2 years it will be under 1,000,000.

We've been using Ebola for years. We thoroughly understand its genome and have several products available now for the cosmetic application of:

EBOLA COSMETIC

I has been proven to smooth out the skin and moisturize. We haven't yet figured out that whole 90% death rate thing but promise a whole product line. Current uses include the reduction of a restive unemployed population.

This requiring physical contact and exchanging bodily fluids, as the only means of transmission, is highly deceiving. I would say quite confidently that if you are standing 2 metres from somebody and they sneeze in your direction, you have well and truly satisfied the exchange of bodily fluids without physical contact. I suspect someone only has to sneeze in the same room as you and you will inhale their saliva. Just as when someone farts in the same room, what was previously in their bowel and rectum is now in your nose, mouth and lungs. There's definitely no bodily contact under these circumstances, far from it, you're normally climbing the walls to escape.

Introducing the new wonder cure... SUGAR! It's demonised in our diet, but  it can banish leg ulcers

The reason sugar is not used more in developed nations is simply that it is so cheap, there isn't enough profit to justify investing in large-scale randomised trials. These provide the proof necessary to win endorsement from bodies such as the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

One of the largest studies, published in the Southern Medical Journal in 1981, involved 605 patients in the U.S. with wounds, burns and ulcers. The results showed that healing times were reduced by 25 per cent, they needed fewer skin grafts and antibiotics, and the cost of their long-term care was greatly reduced.

Sugar is cheaper, which may be why it is not being used.

David Leaper, one of the UK's leading experts on wound healing, says he remembers being invited to a meeting in London in the Eighties by sugar giant Tate & Lyle to discuss the company's plans to develop sugar into a drug that would transform wound-healing.

'They were very excited,' says Professor Leaper. 'But then I heard no more about it. Whether they were warned it might be unfair competition for companies developing more expensive wound-care treatments, I don't know. What I do know is that sugar works.'

Professor Peter Vowden, consultant vascular surgeon at the Bradford Teaching Hospital, says a major obstacle is that sugar can't be patented. When a pharmaceutical firm develops a new drug, it is usually protected by patent for at least five years in hope of recouping the millions of pounds spent on research.

This is Connect the Dots 101.

1. Produce ebola outbreak in Africa.

2. Infect some US "care" workers.

3. Bring US "care" workers to US.

4. Cure US "care" workers, but infect others.

5. Make sure to have ebola case appear in major large cities, especially New York, Boston, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington DC.

6. Issue quarantine in major cities.

7. Make sure a couple million people die.

8. Issue press releases to major news organizations (all three of them) about how ebola and quarantines are affecting business.

9. Fear monger for a minimum of four months.

10. Report 3Q GDP at -2.2%. Blame ebola, quarantines.

11. Issue warnings about shopping in malls and retail stores in time for Christmas (start in September).

12. Crash economy completely by Christmas.

13. Buy more stock in Amazon.

14. Cash out of stocks. Impoverish millions moar.

15. Stop sending out SS checks, blame ebola, kill moar.

16. Announce miracle vaccine, inject millions, kill 20%, claim 80% success rate.

17. Destroy America.

18. Start WWIII, blame ebola, kill millions moar.

19. After a year, Dick Cheney emerges from bunker, claims victory. Announces run for presidency (bright side, Obama, Jeb Bush, Hillary, Christie, Rubio all died from ebola).

20. Enslave entire population of US (already happening).

See there, mister smarty-pants, Michael Snyder. You've got nothing on me. I can make lists too.

How about a list of supplies to have on hand in case of an ebola outbreak? Ought to be good for a couple thousand hits. Hey! Think I'll start a blog.

Fuck. I agree with deerhunter, above. We're fooked, but good this time.

"Federal agents at U.S. airports are watching travelers from Africa for flu-like symptoms that could be tied to the recent Ebola outbreak, as delegations from some 50 countries arrive in the nation's capital for a leadership summit this week. Border patrol agents at Washington's Dulles International and New York's JFK airport in particular have been told to ask travelers about possible exposure to the virus and to be on the lookout for anyone with a fever, headache, achiness, sore throat, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, rash or red eyes.

"There is a screening process that individuals have to go through when they board aircraft departing the countries where this outbreak has been reported. There is additional screening that occurs when individuals who started in that region of the world arrive in this country," White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters. "

Talk trumps action IMO.

The story that there is no cure for Ebola is a BOLD FACED LIE! Go to www.rxsilver.com and read on. Also look up ASAP Silver on Youtube. The same is true about there being no cure for Malaria.....it is a LIE! The Red Cross CURED 300 people in Africa using MMS and filmed it, and then went on to deny it later. See it on Youtube. At 5 cents a dose and three doses typically needed per patient this puts a real profit dent in Big Pharma's plan to develop an expensive cure for Malaria that they wouldn't want advertised. There are in fact at least TWO options for a 100% CURE of either disease. One is MMS, or Master Mineral Solution, which releases chlorine dioxide when activated with citic acid. Chlorine dioxide is what is used in water filtration plants to kill every known pathogen out there, including fungi, bacteria, and viruses. You can safely drink a dilute oral solition of it you mix yourself, and I personally have used it. It just so happens chlorine dioxide is what the Pentagon uses to kill anthrax in areas of the house and senate once exposed, or the mail rooms. The second option is ASAP Nano Silver or ACS Nano colloidal silver. The latter works slightly differently though it sounds the same and it is in fact FDA approved! They have both been test on over 600 known pathogen and have 100% kill rates within 6 minutes on all of them inlcuding the AIDS virus.
