I know, right? What borders are the U.S. forces on??.....cuz it's not ours. Those terrible Russians and their....troops that stay inside their own borders.....

It really is that simple, yet so few people seem to get it. What gives us the right to go kill people all over the world, but get all high and mighty when Russia moves some troops within its own borders? Complete insanity.

Yeahbut ... ... the West has been demanding of Putin that he takes action to resolve the civil war in Ukraine and has imposed sanctions on Russia for not doing anything.

If Putin sends in his troops and hardware and deals with the Ukie army, that is action to deal with the problem. I admit it isn't exactly the action the West had in mind, but, you know ... ...

Brilliant, except the Russians don't have the PR capability to make it stick.

You're right.

If there's one thing I've noticed in recent weeks it's how the Russians lack the slick, western PR stunt skills that operate so smoothly out of Washington/Westminster. They often come across as being almost timid when presenting factual evidence of this or that, whereas Wash/West stand there and spew out non-stop lies and show doctored sat images with a serious face.

Its also a huge pity that they don't put out the information they release in a form easily usuable by the world's press. In English.

The MSM can't be bothered to translate from Russian and the pictures have Russian writing on them

Nevertheless, very happy to be part of the ZH crowd. The best web blog by a very long way, reflected in its popularity.

Indeed. And although it looked like a kid's drawing, that was his intention: "associate Iran with Nukes" in the minds of muppets everywhere. Simple images stay in peoples' minds more than words.

Putin knows he can hurt the US by driving the dow to 1200 or so, more than with any tanks.  I think he'll bluff the later in search of the former.

Qbama has no idea what is happening. This can blow up quickly. If that happens Putin must decide what he wants.

Bar chat...

Patron 1: "Russia appears to have adult leadership."

Patron 2: "Since they are nice enough to fly our astronauts to the International Space Station, wonder if we could print enough dollars to hire Russia to handle US southern border security?"

Patron 1: "Unfortunately they are smart enough not to take our soon to be worthless scrip."

Patron 2: "Well, perhaps our DC policy sluts and bimbos can bribe them with sex instead?"

Patron 1: "Unfortunately their citizens are significantly more attractive than our GMO fattened sluts and bimbos."

Patron 2: "Hmm... well perhaps we can threaten to place a few million "people of wal-mart" on their border seeking food stamps, housing, free medical care, free tats and phone, etc...?"

Patron 1: "Holy $hit, not a bad idea! That would certainly scare the bear!

ROFL!

The problem is timing.  Putin wants to wait until the western population of the Ukraine is in rebellion against the Kiev government's austerity programs but before the two People's Republics succumb to Kiev's troops.  He may be running out of time.

Pure FUD. Russia could watch and wait for 50 years as the Ukraiane eats itself alive. I am convinced Russia will turn its back on the West and face East. China is happy to finance Russia is just another American defeat.

Just like the US staged coup in Ukraine happened during the Sochi  games, Putin is flexing his muscle while Obama & the rest of the stooges in DC are on vacation.

Two can play this game--only one plays it decisively better.

Exactly WHO is waiting right over the border in Ukraine for Russsian troops?

And why do they all look like 'bangers from the 'hood with nothing to lose except for some pretty big payouts to their families, live or die?

And those "bangers" are internationally adept at using heavy equipment to get their gold. They only do a few tours before swithching to the private side, unlike Opie, who's in it for a (sucker) pension.

Do you really want to see them "come out at night"???

This morning 484 ukranian soldier  crossed the Russian border, after they had given up to pro russian rebelds. Many people say that in the next hours other 1000 soldiers will give up and cross the border with Russia

Ukrania has many problems. The country doesn´t have money, the west of Ukrania is close of rising up against Kiev, and they have several casualties every day in Donestk and Lugansk

Imagine if you were an ethnic Russian, with little more than mining or factory worker skills, and had been immediately "drafted" into the Ukrainian army, and were going to be the first to pushed into the war zone... you'd probably desert, too...

But, when you saw the foreigners commanding you, armed with six-figure salaries, you'd quickly realize you were a "one use cup"....

In reality America has few military options in Russia's backyard unless it has the backing of a full and enthusiastic NATO and that is very unlikely. Europe has reason to be unexcited about a possible long and expensive conflict. While still trying to recover from a recession Europe would face fuel shortages and a massive spike in the price of natural gas.

Currently Russia supplies much of the gas used in Europe, this gives Putin a great deal of leverage. If an actual ground attack were to occur few see the Russians as likely to rollover as other armies have when America approaches. More on this subject in the article below.
