Ebola Deaths Go Exponential; Nigeria Demands Experimental Drug From US, Saudi Death First In Arab World

Tyler Durden's picture

The official Ebola death toll is now at 932 with over 1,700 reported cases but as the WHO reports, in the last 48 hours, deaths and cases have exploded (48 and 108 respectively). As the charts below show, this epidemic is going exponential. What is perhaps most worrisome is, while playing down the threat in Nigeria (most especially Lagos - which the CDC Director is "deeply concerned" about), officials have formally asked the US for the experimental Ebola drug, which suggest things are far worse than the 3 deaths reported so far in Nigeria would suggest. Finally, as we warned yesterday, Saudi Arabia is suffering too as the main who was hospitalized yesterday with symptoms has died - the first reported casualty in the Arab world.

As The BBC reports,

It is the world's deadliest outbreak to date and has centred on Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Eight people are currently in quarantine in Nigeria, Africa's most populous country, and two have died there.

The Saudi man died after showing Ebola symptoms when he returned from a business trip to Sierra Leone, the Saudi health ministry said.

The Ebola outbreak has gone exponential...

Cases...

Deaths...

And then there is this...

  • *NIGERIA FORMALLY REQUESTS EXPERIMENTAL EBOLA DRUG FROM U.S.
  • *NIGERIA HEALTH MINISTER IN TOUCH WITH U.S. CDC DIRECTOR

Nigerian Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu has sent request to director of U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, he tells reporters in capital, Abuja.

“We have been in communication in the last 36 hours”

“We are getting reports that the experimental drug seems to be useful”

Which suggests things are far more serious in Nigeria than officials are letting on. As The BBC reports,

But it is not clear if the ZMapp drug, which has only been tested on monkeys, can be credited with their improvement.

Prof Peter Piot, who co-discovered Ebola in 1976, Prof David Heymann, the head of the Centre on Global Health Security, and Wellcome Trust director Prof Jeremy Farrar said there were several drugs and vaccines being studied for possible use against Ebola.

"African governments should be allowed to make informed decisions about whether or not to use these products - for example to protect and treat healthcare workers who run especially high risks of infection," they wrote in a joint statement.

The WHO, "the only body with the necessary international authority" to allow such experimental treatments, "must take on this greater leadership role", they said.

As CDC's Director warned...

As Al Arabiya reports,

A Saudi man, who was hospitalized for suspected Ebola infection, died on Wednesday.

The man, in his 40s, had returned recently to Jeddah from a business trip to Sierra Leone, the Health Ministry said on Tuesday. He was admitted to hospital on Monday and showed symptoms of Ebola virus infection.

His death marks the first reported casualty of the Ebola epidemic in the Arab world and comes as an emergency World Health Organization summit was being held in Geneva to discuss measures to tackle the epidemic.

The Public Health Agency of Canada have demonstrated it is airborne: Ebola Virus Data Sheet (see Mode of Transmission)

Wed, 08/06/2014 - 19:40 | 5056580 Mi Naem
Mi Naem's picture

That Data Sheet is from 2010.  It seems that the human to human transmission is likely but not proven.

Per the Datasheet:

MODE OF TRANSMISSION: .... In the laboratory, infection through small-particle aerosols has been demonstrated in primates, and airborne spread among humans is strongly suspected, although it has not yet been conclusively demonstrated (1, 6, 13). The importance of this route of transmission is not clear. Poor hygienic conditions can aid the spread of the virus (6).
INCUBATION PERIOD: Two to 21 days, more often 4 - 9 days (1, 13, 14).
COMMUNICABILITY: Communicable as long as blood, secretions, organs, or semen contain the virus. Ebola virus has been isolated from semen 61 days after the onset of illness, and transmission through semen has occurred 7 weeks after clinical recovery (1, 2).

Particularly alarming to me is that, among those who survive, they can continue to infect other for at least weeks after recovery from symtoms.

The reason it is not a big deal is because most of the people who die from the flu are old and in hospital. They have surgery, have other illnesses, go in to hospital, catch the flu, and die from the flu.

It's just an opportunistic infection, like MRSA or Sepsis.

Maine and East Coast Exposed to Ebola Plane Risks Twice - Aug 2 and 5

Aug 2 - Plane carrying American infected with Ebola stops in Bangor Maine

"...the Phoenix Air Gulfstream 3 landed at BIA just after 7:30 a.m. Saturday. It was the plane's first stop in the US on its journey to Dobbins Air Force Base in Marietta, GA from Liberia, Africa, where two American aid workers were infected with the deadly disease.

"The crew stepped off the aircraft to stretch their legs and receive what appeared to be medical supplies. The American on board, Dr. Kent Brantly, worked in a Liberian hospital that treated Ebola patients."

 http://www.wmtw.com/news/plane-carrying-american-infected-with-ebola-stops-in-bangor/27278498#ixzz39ZrmkDeq

Aug 5 - Plane Carrying 2nd Ebola Patient Landing in Bangor Maine

"Bangor's airport administration was originally alerted Friday afternoon that the plane would be stopping in Bangor Saturday morning to refuel and for a federal inspection. Maine is the closest state to Africa and is often a stopping point for international flights. For safety reasons, Bangor International employees did not get on the plane.

"After getting word, the airport director alerted Bangor city officials, like the city manager and city council. The Bangor airport director didn't alert the public or Bangor Public Health Director Patty Hamilton. Hamilton said it's not a public health concern in Bangor.

http://www.necn.com/news/new-england/Plane-Carrying-2nd-Ebola-Patient-La...

Outbound the flight from Georgia to Liberia with a refueling stop in the Azores was a direct route. But inbound from Liberia to Georgia the plane traveled to and landed in Bangor Maine, and then flew 1,300 miles along the East Coast from Maine to Georgia. Why was the return flight diverted hundreds (and possibly thousands)of miles to Maine rather than a direct route from Liberia to Georgia?

http://foxtrotalpha.jalopnik.com/this-amazing-jet-will-transport-ebola-v...

http://wabi.tv/2014/08/02/jet-transporting-ebola-patient-stops-bangor/

Did Customs officials and others board the plane  in Bangor, and if so was their Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) adequate for potential exposure to ebola. How was the PPE disposed of?

On the flight from Maine to Georgia, the plane might have had malfunction that required an emergency landing that might have damaged the plane and injured the crew and passengers. The emergency landing could have been in Boston, New York, Newark, Philadelphia, Baltimore or Washington, D.C., or any of the smaller airports along the East Coast.

Was the diversion to Bangor necessary? Was the diversion warranted or justified in light of the increased public exposure to risk along the East Coast from Maine to Georgia?

Monkey Meat and the Ebola Outbreak in Liberia
VICE News, June 26, 2014
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XasTcDsDfMg
West Africa is being plagued by a new outbreak of Ebola–a terrifying disease that causes its victims to bleed to death from the inside out. Ebola has no cure, and the latest epidemic is spreading fast.

VICE News visited Liberia, where many feel the new outbreak began, borne from the bushmeat markets of Lofa. Western scientists feel that the consumption and preparation of meat from monkeys, fruit bats, and other forest animals is behind the transmission of Ebola, and possibly a new supervirus, which if left uncontrolled could kill a third of the world’s population.

The BIG FUCKING obfuscation is that ebola can only be transmitted by contact with body fluids.

"The usual influenza or cold virus will survive outside living tissue for about three days, but other viruses, namely HIV, can only make due for a couple of minutes. Ebola is certainly a hardy virus and might be able to make it for over a week but no less than three or four days. So the range is anywhere from three to ten days in all likelihood. "

That's not right.   Filoviruses are small ... even in the virus world.   Small = Fragile.

Now I acknowledge the fact that this strain of Ebola is likely to be airborne and hardier than past strains but if it gets as tough as flu then we're about to go through a 60% depopulation event worldwide.

Days from March 25th to July 20th...118 days.  Did'nt someone say something about the 'magic 7' in a rather giddy psychotic giggle and then settle down to give us a lesson about numerology.

Incubation period: 2-21 days, most often 4-9.

July 20th to today (Aug. 6th)...18 days (well into exponential growth...

What happened on or about July 20th...?

I suggest the possibility that this is a scare campaign to drive an infected 'vaccine' pogrom to infect large populations. Real but small numbers (compared to cancer @ 1 million per year or regular seasonal flu @ 0.25-0.5 mil per year) but nasty and exploited via propaganda to drive the real infection mechanism of of some wonder-shot.
Further to be exploited by gov to extract more control over populations.
Real and nasty but not really pandemic level stuff.
We shall see.

My concern is not just with the global spread of ebola among humans, but with what I DO NOTsee/hear the experts talking about AT ALL is that as ebola spread around the human world an extremely dangerous situation results: ebola will have vastly increased opportunity to commingle with human AND animal poulations far removed from its point of origin which results in greatly increased opportunity for mutations, which can result in ebola becoming even more highly infectious and deadly. This adaptation and mutation processes in viruses is not as rapid as it is in bacteria, which can exchange genetic material via plasmids, but it is still a legitimate public health concern that should trump all other issues. All the nations of the world MUST immediuatly ban all travel of people who have been in the infected areas.

And perhaps that's what happened in 1918. As I remember, the first instance was bad, but not as deadly. Then, when it appeared again, people were keeling over the same day.

In those remote jungles, it cannot mutate as easily.

With air travel and political correctness creating an incompetent response, we could all be in danger.

Imagine an Ebola + Influenza patient later this winter.   They're most likely dead men/women walking but perfect breeding grounds for BILLIONS of interactions between ebola and the flu.    And this could happen to thousands of people.   Results?

  • Ebola virus with a much hardier protein coat.  / Flu virus that induces hemorrhagic fever symptoms

Or .... Ebola + Rhinovirus.

  • Ebola that is as contagious as the common cold.   With as many variants.

Or how about??

  • Hemorrhagic Herpes
  • Hemorrhagic Chlaymidia

Daffy Duck ..... here's your crash course on RNA viral evolution.

How RNA viruses exchange their genetic material

Chapter 43Viral Genetics

Recombination

Recombination involves the exchange of genetic material between two related viruses during coinfection of a host cell.

Recombination of Viral Genome

http://www.hhmi.org/biointeractive/recombination-viral-genome

Caption:  When two different strains of influenza infect a single cell, their genetic material can mix freely, resulting in a new third strain of influenza.

Box 3 | Recombination and viral emergence

http://www.nature.com/nrmicro/journal/v9/n8/box/nrmicro2614_BX3.html

For most RNA viruses, cross-species transmission is the most common way for a virus to enter a new host. Recombination could assist in this process because it enables viruses to explore a greater proportion of the sequence space than is accessible by mutation at any one time, thereby increasing the likelihood of finding a genetic configuration that facilitates host adaptation. Notably, many recently emerged human diseases are caused by RNA viruses that display active recombination or reassortment.

RNA viral types

Same Order

  • Filoviruses - Ebola, Marburg
  • Rhabdoviridae - Rabies
  • Paramyxoviridae—includes Measles virus, Mumps virus, Nipah virus, Hendra virus

Same Group : Group V—negative-sense ssRNA viruses [all of the above]

  • Orthomyxoviridae—includes Influenza viruses
  • Hanta virus
  • Lassa virus

Other RNA types

  • Rota virus -  Nearly every child in the world has been infected with rotavirus at least once by the age of five
  • Picornaviridae—includes Poliovirus, the common cold virus (Rhinovirus), Hepatitis A virus

Smallpox / Chickenpox are DNA viruses so that might be a blessing

What if the real issue is not transmissability, perhaps the lab never really solved that...but that it is indeed a fear game designed to get everyone to take the 'vaccines' or whatever it is allegedly to 'protect' against the horror but the infection is really spread in the 'protection'?

All that would be required was some judicious high effort infections, followed by a fear campaign to drive the sheep to the vaccine stations to be infected, then let the death really begin.

You have to admit, it would deal with the inability of the labs difficulties to get the transmissibility rate up.

Why Revive a Deadly Flu Virus?

Its genetic code is now in public databases, where other researchers can download it to conduct experiments.

How easy would it be for a bioterrorist to exploit the same information for malevolent ends?

"Give me $100,000 and two months, and I can recreate it right here in my lab," says Earl Brown, a flu researcher who specializes in the evolution of virulence at the University of Ottawa. "You wouldn't be able to tell it from the real thing that was around a hundred years ago. Would it kill at the same rate as in 1918? Probably. But you really don't want to have to find that out. You don't want to give this thing a second time around."

You can't use Ebola as a weapon. It isn't controllable enough to be considered truly weaponized.

Your ability to make hostile use of something against an enemy does not mean you have made it your weapon. A weapon is supposed to take out your enemy. Ebola takes you out too.

Here's an interesting take on CDC ebola testing, fwiw:

"The CDC is testing all suspected Ebola patients in the US with the PCR method.

The PCR is completely unreliable for a disease diagnosis. Why? Two reasons. First, technicians start with a tiny, tiny sample of genetic material from the patient. This sample may or may not be part of a virus. Mistakes can be made. Obviously, the techs want the sample to be viral in nature; otherwise, the diagnostic test will be complete bust.

But more importantly, the whole rationale for PCR is wrongheaded. Doctors and researchers only find a miniscule bit of hopefully relevant material in the patient to begin with. The PCR amplifies that bit so it can be observed.

But to consider the possibility that a virus is causing a disease in a patient, there must be huge numbers of that virus working actively in his body.

The PCR never establishes that.

Finding a tiny trace of viral material in a patient says absolutely nothing about whether he is ill, has been ill, or will become ill."

If the patient sneezes too hard and spits all over the place, its fairly obvious that infected droplets can be breathed in. . .  ebola can be transmitted though the air, just not far away, if you are in the same room as someone who has ebola and they sneeze really hard or cough really hard, everything around them is instantly contaminated with droplets containing the virus. . . if you touch anything infected with spit/sneeze / cough droplets/particles you are risking infection, anyone who has been in a room with someone who has bad breath and then sneezed knows how fast and far air from a sneeze can spread(and its pretty gross), the average sneeze can travel over 100 miles per hour. . . . over 88 feet per sec. . .  a single sneeze can cross a room in less than 3 seconds EASY....

Only way to be safe around someone with ebola is to be in a complete bio haz body suit, and to go through de-contamination before taking the thing off....

And if you are infected, you have to take silver (colloidal) or Nano silver to destroy the ebola in your blood and give yourself a chance to actually kill the bug off, its just a simple fact that silver kills most of these bugs on contact, a high enough silver concentration in your blood will exterminate this plague.

I think the Ebola virus was weaponized by the US government. One of their goals is to kick the Chinese out of Africa and force them to seek oil in Eastern Siberia. They want China and Russia to go war with each other.

The Africans were on to it. They said "Everywhere Doctors With Out Borders went disease followed" First reports is they were tested for Ebola and they thought in the testing they infected them. They tried to burn down the clinic with ties to depopulation Gates, Soros and the Pentagon. Doctors without borders is funded by Goldman Sachs as per their own website.

Docs w/o borders claimed that Assad had used chemical weapons on his own people with no proof.

I think the virus is race specific. After the Africans blocked the doctors from entering their village the white doctors got Ebola. I don't think they even had it. It was odd with all the pics of the doc ready to go day one of him treating in just a cloth gown.

The fake serum, then in one day he "walks out of the ambulance"

They want Africa bad.

Well, that's what I think.

Race specific?  Not likely considering that non-Africans are getting it and dying.

Will it target a certain subset of the population in the USA?   Of course, the poor [cant even afford palliative care], minorities [any minority / ethnic groups without a strong hygiene cultural concept are doomed], the elderly will be hit hardest.

Oddly enough in a few years if this isnt an E.L.E. with the associated wars,  Social Security / WICS / welfare funds probably go solvent again.  [horrible but likely if this is a pandemic]

No,"they" DON'T want China and Russia to go to war. "They" have simply been bought out by China so they don't oppose the continued Chinese invasion of eastern Russia... this is one of the reasons Putin is so angry.

China wants, needs, and eventually will get a significant part of what is now Russia, as they need not only the land and resources that Russia has there, but also they need, want, and will get some claim to the arctic shelf.

That part of Russia is due to what the Chinese refer to as ''an unfair treaty" - which is any treaty that does not give the Chinese 100% and bends the counterparty over the negotiating table. Any benefit to the other is considered a failure in a business agreement where the Chinese are concerned.

Treaty of Nerchinsk gave Russia most of the Amur basin, and China wants it back. Period. No discussion. Along with Mongolia, parts of all neighbouring countries, Taiwan, North Vietnam, and all of the South China Sea.

Singapore negotiable but with so many ethnic Chinese...

Nobody covers mouth when coughing now. The city is filthy, filled with homeless people who piss and crap on the sidewalk right out in the daylight. Drunks invade every night and vomit and piss too.

The dogs get Giardia Lamblia and so do gay men.

The cause of it is eating feces, but the dogs get it from walking barefoot on the sidewalk and then later licking paws.

Oddly enough the next Jupiter Saturn conjuction (King maker) occurs on the winter soltice of 2020 at zero degrees of Aquarius, this is the entry to the age of Aquarius. It looks like the new world order ushered in on that day. But maybe not, something is that going to last for over 2000 years.

It should be the Liberty time, lets hope that we win. If not Aquarius is co ruled by Saturn, New World Order aka Police State.

Fight for Liberty which rules Aquarius, Uranus. The property of Uranus is quickly cast off tyranny right in the begining. I think Libery wins, at that time Uranus (Liberty) is in Taurus which rules the land. Now it is in Aries, which is the warrior, Taurus is peace and to sustain. It is what happnes after you win.

We win. Saturn (tyranny) dances with Jupiter in a big way, and ignores we control the land, and it is secure (taurus)

Reality Check.

Hmmm... what's up with that rumor about 100 scientists being among the 238 dead from MH-17? 100 "AIDS" researchers traveling to/from a conference. That would be an uncanny coincidence. What about this link? http://www.whale.to/a/dead22.html  Have we all forgotten about all the scientists being assassinated over the past 10 years? It was like one every month was getting stabbed, defenestrated, run down or just plain jugulared. People die and get killed everyday, but these guys were all infectious disease experts working with gov related grants and contracts. Hmm... interesting. Were they silenced so they wouldn't call bullshit on this manufactured curable virus? Or silenced because they would tell people that the evidence doesn't add up and their credibility and affiliations would be enough to cause people to take notice and ask questions?

IF this shit is real, it's a weaponized form of some kind of shit that's been stored deep underground or in the middle of some mountain in Anywhere, USA/Europe. And you can bet the skin on your nut sack that IF they released a weaponized virus they have a cure for it. Unless of course it mutates. Then we're all fucked.

This could also just as easily be a coordinated narrative being spun out of the gullability of a public ignorant to the level of deception and corruption that exists within the global media and shadown government establishments.

Funny how all this is going down just as Russia and China begin signing bilateral trade agreements with all of the major economies of the world and the US Treasury is now openly talking about losing access to funding markets. Distract from the imminent death of the Petrodollar and create an alternate Straw Man for the coming "Full Utilization of FEMA Detention Facilities". Funny That.

If it's real and airborne, there's nothing you're going to be able to do to save yourself if you don't ALREADY have 6 months worth of supplies and ammo to shelter in place until 90% of the global population is dead and wasting away. After that, you have a SLIVER of a chance of surviving in the new fresh hell of a toxic, diseased, radioactive wasteland populated by the WORST OF THE WORST ruthless gangs of cannibal rapist murderers. Think Fist of The North Star.

The way I see it, it's either panic like a sheep, or make a logical decision, free of fear, based on all the facts we have about how the media presented the Boston Marathon bombings, Sandy hook, 9/11, etc etc... They Lie, Lie Lie. Lie x10^100. I'm not going to buy into their fear matrix until I see BODIES on the STREET. And by then it's too fucking late anyway. The only ones with a chance in a real killer epidemic in this super interconnected world are those with the resources to have guaranteed access to DUMB's and vaccine, or the genetically immune. Better keep 10 gallons or so of kerosene around to burn the bodies of people seeking help who stack up on your front lawn.

No, you can't have the drug it's not ethical because it hasn't been fully tested.  So enjoy your maximum 50% chances of surviving.

And would be just like the US to worry about everyone else when they should be stockpiling it for us.  No worries though, the poor fucks that live like fuckig dogs will get it for free meanwhile we'll end up losing our homes over a fucking dose and truthfully the military was interested in ebola in the 70's and the fuckers probably already had the fucking cure on the goddamn shelf.

Oh my! Are you even hinting that Ebola may be a designer virus out of Dr. Moreau's offshore island in NY? Uh oh, there goes my wild imagination again.

Guys, it's interesting talk here.

It is not my intention to set fire or panic about Ebola.

Everything is under control in the next 120 days (since that is eight meters deep) will be all cool.

Nobody dies so the Russians in Siberia get eight months without seeing the sun, and are alive.

Indeed, the record is Soljenitsen in Siberia, was so long there that wrote a great brick to hold the door.

Karl Marx also wrote a brick traveling in the region, but his teachings, both of moths feed themselves ended up in California where, with a natural lightning, burned some that no longer produce latex trees.

After that legislators banned making porn movies.

Then came the chaos.

hehe.

I certainly hope the CDC can provide this drug to them. Because it will sure look pretty hinky that we airlifted our 2 white citizens out of their to treat them, and left the black Nigerians to die...
That is how it would look to the world anyway. And that's what counts, how it looks. Not how WE think it looks.
And it would look pretty god-damned BAD. I wouldn't want to be a US pharmaceutical industry person should something go horribly wrong...

The 2 "whites" were airlifted to Atlanta because they are US citizens.
