The CDC's Worst Nightmare (Or What Nigeria Has To Look Forward To)
With more than 1600 people in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone having contracted Ebola since March, CDC Director Frieden's "deeply concerned about Lagos, Nigeria" worst nightmare looks set to come true as the pace of cases (and deaths) in the nation begins to accelerate. As the following chart shows, Nigeria - now in a state of national emergency - has this to look forward to (though on a scale significantly higher since population density is dramatically higher).

We can't believe any epidemiology numbers coming out of Africa. The WHO gets the numbers from the Ministries of Health of the respective countries who are terribly understaffed and frankly, are probably just guessing. And the populous doesn't trust western medicine and care for the sick at home. So really no one has a clue how many of the sick feverish people who die in Africa everyday have Ebola. The only way to distinguish Ebola from Malaria, Dengue, shigella and the many other bugs is blood and stool testing--and a very small percentage are having that testing done. The medical infrastructure just isn't there.
These numbers are just wild guesses.
How many of those other diseases have folks bleeding from their eyes, ears, nose, mouth,...?
I ask seriously, because I have thought that this disease was rather distinctive in some of it's symptoms.
There are various strains of the virus. Governments have been working with Ebola as a bioweapon for decades. The US has a research center in Africa.

Good question. Only 50% of Ebola cases have any "hemorrhage" manifestations and most are subtle: easy bruising, leaking from an IV site, conjunctival hemorrhage (blood visible on the whites of they eyes). The number of people with florid DIC manifesting with a big bleed is very small. (Sorry, I can't remember the number.)
But, if you do see someone who is febrile, too week to stand up and who has lots of bleeding, then the odds that it is a hemorrhagic fever like Ebola are very high.

In Atlanta, they are dumping the medical waste containing Ebola down standard sink drains into the public sewer system.
Ebola can survive over 20 days outside of a host (at room temperature) and even longer the closer it gets to body temperature (considering there is fermenting waste generating heat in most common sewer systems), it will not only survive in the public sewer system, it might actually THRIVE.
This leads to potential and probable contamination of sewer pests such as rats/rodents and other critters, which would inevitably lead to someone/thing somewhere coming in-contact with the excrement of these infected pests.
Ebola remains highly infectious outside of the body for prolonged periods of times (days).
The proper disposal of medical waste containing ebola should be nothing less than being thrown into an incinerator to minimize risk of cross contamination.
Not saying that them dumping the ebola waste into the sewer is guaranteed to cause a catastrophe, but I am saying, why take the chance in the first place?
The CDC states that the waste being flushed down the toilet "should not be contagious" even though it clearly is. . . there is nothing in the sewer system that effectively kills the virus.
Think about this, also if you were a plumber called into that hospital and asked to clear a clogged main drain to the building, would YOU go near it? knowing they are flushing ebola down the toilet 4 stories up?

Pretty much, the CDC doesn't care if they flush the waste down the toilet, because they doubt that the ebola virus will survive past the waste treatment plant where the waste water gets recycled into drinking water.
Even if the waste water is treated and cleansed when it hits the treatment plants from the sewer, you are still risking pests like Rats getting infected and spreading the freaking plague.
There is no logical reason NOT to take the extra precaution of properly disposing of the freaking waste. . . . just because someone "thinks" its perfectly fine to flush the infected waste down the public sewers.... what is the entire point of keeping patient zero in containment if you are practically dumping the waste containing the virus out the window into the environment?

I get the skepticism about the negative test results in a lot of places but there are lots of bugs that share symptoms with Ebola so its easy to believe that some of these folks simply have the flu or food poisoning. If some of these cases have Ebola and it is being covered up, it will get out. Doctors and nurses who are treating the afflicted will share the information at some point and word will spread. Information is about the most contagious thing these days.
Director of CDC Tom Friedman is making "decisions" that are outside his security clearance. The importation of ebola patient/s is a national security concern that should only be made by/at the Pentagon. Friedan used the word "compassion" in bringing in the doc and the missionary "nurse" to Atlanta.
Compassion is not what we do; what we do is protect the people of the US, first, foremost, always. Friedan should be removed from his job or he can move his own family onto the same level ward as the ebola patients and let them live there for a month or so.

Wong Kim Ark was/is used under the precedent of jus soli (place of birth) citizenship; in essence, is is a "quick claim" deed to a piece of the United States. Interrpreted, this is an act of war since it declares that the person "grabbing" via birth, that piece of the US now owns it. This is, of course, wrong. It is a might over right argument and denies the centrality of sovereignty as the right of every country to create a criteria for citizenship, which has always been through parents or through legal immigration, and no other way.
Immigation in the last two decades has been used as a terrorist weapon to deconstruct the Constitution and the sovereignty of the US. Stop all Immigration now; we plumb full up and deny all "family reunification citizenship (every new "citizen" is ten to twenty wet-birth certificate slingshot citizens).
Note that: Ebola would be massively infecting the US if Patrick Sawyer had made his way to the US on his US passport rather than his Liberian passport. I looked up some of these words and associated images. Good God it is hard to look at. I feel for the folks that have it and the health care professionals alike who must stay level in the presence of it. I know I could do it if trained and I had to and I would become used to it, but damn, that is a long way from where I am right now. Many of our petty concerns pale when you start to try to comprehend the daily lived experience of this disease, managing the fear, the anger, the reactions.
These could end up being family and friends before it is all over. We need to protect ourselves, we also need to keep in mind this other aspect. Not the kind of compassion that gets us killed, but I know I am going to try not let myself be over reactive out of ignorance. My question to myself is "What's real?"
