A day of protests and vigils Sunday over the death of Michael Brown, a black teenager who was killed (allegedly shot 8 times) following an altercation with a Ferguson police officer, turned violent overnight with reports of riots and looting... and the violence is continuing today. Are we to believe there is no video evidence of this whatsoever? The cops dashcam? Street cams that are seemingly at every corner of every street in the US. No NSA surveillance? No satellite images. Nothing at all with all the money spent on technology to "keep us safe". Cops should be fitted with "helmet cams" for lack of a better term. If I were a cop I would want one in order to show exactly what my actions were just in case I were wrongly accused of a bad shoot. There would never be a need for any guess work in these situations, ever. That would seem to be fairly inexpensive tech spend compared to all the combative shit the authority has been buying lately and it would be a cops best weapon against tried and convicted of a wrongful or bad shooting. I suppose thats just too easy of a solution.
When the only consequence of a 'bad shoot' is some paid vacation while it gets swept under the rug, what cop would WANT a helmetcam?

Those people have every right to be upset about the tyranny of the police, and the specific situation where the cops may have murdered a citizen. However, these people do NOT appear to be directing their anger into its most productive use, even when considering ways that civil disobedience and destruction of property COULD be deployed. They might target a lot full of police cars, or an individual police station. If they did, I'm sure they would get a LOT more respect and attention from around the country (and world).

It seems likely that ZH won't have an interest in continuing coverage, nor the national media won't have much of an interest in pushing anything but the party line. Just to editorialize a bit now. I work with a fair amount of black men and women and the tension even in our IT office setting was palpable. Actually, it was even worse than that. It was clear everyone was very nervous about this, but no one was talking much. It was almost as if the white people were somehow afraid to talk about this in the presence of black people and vice versa. What makes this bizarre is that this shouldn't actually be racially charged. Absolutely no one that I've discussed this with truly believes that the shooting wasn't at least highly suspicious, much less warranted. St. Louis is a pretty racially segregated city with Ferguson being predominantly black. There's actually something called "The Delmar Divide" that hints that Delmar divides the white south of the city against the black north. There are very poor neighborhoods on either side of that line but not a huge amount of integration. I live north in a pretty nice neighborhood that is also predominantly black. It will be interesting to see in the coming days if there is more and more of a racial undertone to this uprising, I sincerely hope not. We know who the real enemy is and it is not my friends and neighbors. Just some thoughts and personal perspective, take it how you may.
