Ukraine Blocks Russian Humanitarian Convoy, Accuses Kremlin Of Sending "Disguised Military Gear"
It took virtually no time from the announcement of the massive, 300-vehicle strong Russian humanitarian convoy destined to alleviate the crisis in east Ukraine, to its departure, leading many to assume - correctly - that the operation had been planned weeks in advance.
Truck convoy sets out from Alabino near Moscow (RIA)

Russian TV showed the aid being loaded onto trucks.
However, with the trucks currently in transit from a point southwest of Moscow and set to enter Ukrainian territory through a customs checkpoint in the Kharkiv region, according to former Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, a snag has appeared: Ukraine, which previously blessed the Russian convoy's entry into the country has had a change of heart and has announced it would not allow the convoy in its current state.
- UKRAINE WON'T ALLOW RUSSIAN AID CONVOY TO ENTER, CHALY SAYS
As Ukraine security council spokesman Andriy Lysenko said early this morning, the convoy should pass through a government-controlled border post and be accompanied by Red Cross officials. As BBC adds, what was previously a greenlighted operation merely under the condition that it was spearheaded by the Red Cross, Lysenko said Ukraine had three conditions for receiving the aid:
- That it should pass through a border post controlled by Ukrainian government guards
- That it should be accompanied by Red Cross representatives
- That a decision should be made about the amount being sent, its destination and route.
Lysenko further adds that the convoy of 280 trucks dispatched on Tuesday “did not pass the ICRC certification.”
Another Ukrainian official, Valery Chaly, said Ukraine would not allow access to a convoy accompanied by the Russian military or Emergencies Ministry.
The BBC's David Stern, in the Ukrainian capital Kiev, says there has been some confusion in the Ukrainian government's response to news of the convoy, suggesting it has been taken by surprise. Nothing surprising about that.
Presidential aide Valery Chaliy said Kiev wants the entire cargo to be unloaded on the border and transferred to Red Cross vehicles.
“We will not allow any escort of the Russian Emergencies Ministry or Russian military,” he said. “Ukraine will take responsibility for this procedure.”
According to RT, Lysenko claimed that the convoy consists of repainted military trucks and is accompanied by an S-300 air defense system, according to the news agency Ukraine National News.
He didn’t elaborate on why Russia would need to send a system that is meant to protect key strategic positions from enemy aircraft and missiles, but is useless in guarding a convoy of vehicles on the move.
Meanwhile, the confusion grows: the Red Cross said it was informed by Moscow that the convoy had been dispatched, but had yet to receive detailed shipping lists and distribution plans.
“The situation is changing by the hour and right now we are not in a position to provide further details now as to how this operation could take place,” ICRC spokesperson Anastasiya Isyuk told RT.
We've been told by Russian authorities that an aid convoy is heading to #Ukraine border. We're not in charge of this convoy at the moment.
— ICRC (@ICRC) August 12, 2014
Important details still need to be clarified, like content & volume of aid. We're in touch with #Ukraine and Russian authorities about this.
— ICRC (@ICRC) August 12, 2014
Earlier, Moscow said that the humanitarian mission had been agreed by all parties concerned. Russia has sent some 2,000 tons of aid to Ukraine, including food, medicine, sleeping bags and power generators.
Needless to say, that is not what Ukraine thinks: Kiev earlier accused Moscow of trying to conduct a stealth invasion of Ukraine under a guise of humanitarian aid, saying that Russian troops would be posing as guards of the convoy while actually tasked with starting an offensive. And a headline from Bloomberg:
- LYSENKO SAYS RUSSIA SENDS MILITARY GEAR IN GUISE OF AID CONVOY
So what happens from here on out is unclear, although it is safe to say that the fate of the BTFD algos today lies in the hands of some 280 freshly painted white trucks.

To Canucklehead:
1.) Russia would gain NOTHING by seizing eastern Ukraine. It has coal mines, but the factories contain obsolete equuipment and are extremely inefficient. (Even reports by IMF analysts have stated this.) Russia has HUGE quantities of natural gas, oil and coal - along with gold and just about every other natural resource you can name. In short, eastern Ukraine would be an ENORMOUS FINANCIAL DRAIN on Russia.
2.) Even Crimea, with its miniscule economy, offers NO economic benefits to Russia. The SOLE reason that Russia annexed Crimea was that Russia's Black Sea Fleet is based in Sevastopol, Crimea. The primary "industries" in Crimea (aside from supplying the Russian miltary personnel) are WINE and TOURISM. I am an American with homes in both Odessa, Ukraine and Simferopol, Crimea since 2009. I overwhelmingly prefer Odessa and its beaches (plus its tourist-oriented restaurants, theaters, magnificent architecture, clubs, bars and the its of various cultures typical of an ancient port city) over any place in Crimea.
Odessa, Ukraine is literally a "tourist's paradise", with major parts of the huge city center and its surrounding beaches literally catering to foreign tourists. And with the huge devaluation of the Ukraine currency (UAH), the U.S. dollar and Euro have almost doubled in their purchasing power, making everything "dirt- cheap".
And, in case you are not married, sit down at any outdoor cafe on Odessa's famous Deribasovskaya Street around noon and/or early evening and you will see the MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMEN in the world in such great numbers that your head will spin.
I've been to Odessa.
I wouldn't say that it has the most beautiful women in the world. Visit the subway in Moscow to get a glimpse of exceptionally beautiful ladies.
I saw a lot of dilapidated buildings in Odessa. What can a tourist do there after visiting the opera building and the dirty crowded beach?
Even then I felt scared at night when I bumped into groups of young men. Now they walk around with the AK-47. No thank you!
@cansauklefucks (the nsa part is silent)
What the fuck are you even saying? Are you even watching the same channel? I'm beginning to suspect some folks have had specific parts of their brains removed, thus rendering them incapable of logical thought. I just......I just cant.....please, just stop. Take a deep breath.
i used to find it tricky to chat up Russian chicks until this whole Ukraine fiasco happened,
their reaction the second they realise that you actually understand that Russia is not the aggressor is quite something,
every cloud an all,
So how did the smartest people on earth (jews) make such a lethal freakshow of the Ukraine? Michael Colhaze offers a short essay on their character; http://www.theoccidentalobserver.net/2013/06/when-heidi-went-to-heaven/

Would you PLEASE stop posting such CRAP?
As an atheist and human being (and former Roman Catholic), I am grossly offended.
there's another version of this wonderful piece of satire...

It's pretty obvious the US and NATO are pushing for war with Russia.
Russia wins either way, if the convoy is turned around, Putin has the excuse to use a more forcefull approach. and that convoy WILL include the russian military, right in the open for all to see, with a special message for the polish mercs.
More good press for the West
as the Noble Peace Prize winner holds up a food convoy for starving people,
so the Kiev nazis, supported by CIA Blackwater mercenaries,
can continue their attacks on the cities full of
"terrorists"
All part of the plan. Obviously you weren't copied-in on the "lebensraum/solution" memo.
A snag ??? I'm shocked.
Like 300 big white trucks is the only way for Russia to get stuff to the Rebs.
Sneaky too - everyone was expecting them to come in from the south.
Russian jorno with the convoy Tweeting pictures, yext in Russian

From the Vinyard
Kiev should inspect the contents and have CNN cameras rolling during inspection, in order to uncover the secret military equipment being smuggled by those "dastardly Russians." Of course, if it is all food and medicine and blankets, that should be publicized, too.
But it won't be.
European markets acting VERY strangely here, FTSEMIB has NOT moved all day wheras the last two months 500 point moves on average, feels like massive intervention here to stop Europe rolling over, IBEX is flying, all the usual weak European Banks all rock solid...NEVER happens someone is desperate to hold this shit up BTP bonds up 70 points! really?
Good decoy Putin.
Ukraine conditions are reasonable:
This "humatarian aid" can be brought to Ukraine border where it will be checked and taken over by OSCE to redistribute in Ukraine.
If Russia doesn't have intention to bring in weapons, ammo and/or more armed forces in Ukraine - than there should be no problem to accept this.
I think some might think the week or two delay (to sort the paperwork out) is a bit of a problem - particularly any civilian likely to be bombed, shelled or starved to death in the meantime.
That info about 2 weeks delay is your personal assumptions or declared info from official competent institutions which are dealing with these issues?
Kiev intends to hold up the internationally-supervised Russian humanitarian aid convoy meant for East Ukraine for at least a week, a spokesman for the Ukrainian military said. Ukraine said the time is needed for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), which is contributing to the Moscow-initiated mission, to establish where the aid should go in the Ukrainian region engulfed by civil war.
They simply want time to anhilate the opposition - rending the aid useless.
So nothing about two weeks than. Ok, thank you for reply!
viedoklis_lv: And another thing: are you saying that it's only the two weeks that's the problem with what I said? Bombing, shelling and starving civilians is fine as long as they get it over with in less than that?
I agree Russia & it's terorist should stop shelling civilians

Free Food and Supplies for Ukraine Army.
Yeah, Putin's that stupid.
Are they a decoy? Everybody is watching the big white trucks.
If Russia really wanted to "to bring in weapons, ammo and/or more armed forces" it wouldn't fuck about bringing them in hidden in trucks.
TWO QUESTIONS:
1.) If Russia decided to proceed with the trucks into Ukraine anyway (which Putin most certainly will NOT do), just HOW would the Kiev government's military stop the convoy?
2.) If, as KIev now insists, the trucks are to be accompanied solely by Red Cross and Kiev military personnel, what would prevent the Kiev military from diverting all this food away from its intended recipients in eastern Ukraine? (The last I heard, the Red Cross was not very well-equipped or skilled in combat operattins needed to stop the Kiev military from diverting the convoy.)
The Uke Army could use that food to keep it's soldiers from deserting. Stupidly they stopped the convoy from coming on it's own territory so it could be seized. No air drops of food AID from the West for Uke Army troops. It's a double penetrating FUBAR.
Good points.
1) probably by attacking the convoy, thereby destroying the trucks and contents.
2) quite so. theft would certainly be No.1 on the Ukie's agenda.
Just because the MSM reports the adversaries claim it doesn't mean its true. If fueling the crisis were my mission these trucks would be a decoy to tie up the nazionists.
Looks like Barroso and his slimeball cronies in Brussels have announced they're going to contact other countries, eg Brazil, to ask them not to break the sanctions against Russia by shipping fresh fruits etc.
This is unbelievable. Such arrogance from someone who isn't even elected.
I suppose if Brazil refuses to comply, Brussels will then introduce trade difficulties for them.
I noticed the Euros have not sanctioned 'energy supplies'.
Guess they don't want to slow production or shiver while they act all tough on Putin.
Poor Angie. She knows the Euro Dream is over and she needs to jump ship but she's afraid of the water. Maybe because it's filled with Uncle Sam sharks.
Putin says "Oh, Angie...Sanctions? No North Stream for you."
Puts the old girl between a rock and a hard place.
2040: "I recall the events leading up to WWIII very vividly. The time in between, other than my escape from the deplorable conditions of the internment camp are hard to recall. Sickness and weakness from starvation for the most part............."
I hope to live long enough to see justice done at the Nulandberg War Crime Trials.
In 1961, Benjamin Freedman , Jewish, warned America about the evils of the Zionists, how they would stop at nothing to get what they want, and how they started WWI and WWII, and conned America into these wars in order to get Palestine and crush Germany because it had become too powerful economically. This is a MUST watch if you haven't seen it. I've heard nothing quite like it. In what I can only described as a raising-the-hair-on-the-back-of-your-neck tape/video, he talks about their nefarious plans from high level meetings he actually attended, and it reads like a primmer on exactly what is going on right now in Ukraine and the Middle East. A 10 on the credibility scale.

"Humanitarian mission." Right.
This "humanitarian mission" couldn't possibly coincide with Kiev storming the eastern half of Ukraine and isolating the rebels, could it?
I think the rebels are going to need a few more "humanitarian missions" to fend off the Kiev government -- er, I mean, to feed all the poor, poor people in need of "humanitarian" aid. Too bad Putin wasn't giving aid when the country was being run by a corrupt oligarch who was being revolted against by many of his own people, but never mind that...
This move by Putin was foreseen weeks in advance in western media outlets. They were predicting such a "humanitarian mission" would be needed by Putin in order to reverse his losses in the region. I didn't know whether to believe it but they couldn't have been more right. Russian propaganda war is in full force. It's just too bad ZH has bought entirely into one side.
"foreseen weeks in advance in western media outlets"
lolz!
Actually, since you've been following western media so intently you obviously have not noticed the absolute kicking the Ukrainian army is getting from the rebels, despite the numerical and material superiority. Since the rebels have control of large sections of the border after encircling and routing whole brigades of the army, Putin can send whatever he likes without taking such a circuitous route. Carry on following the western media though, keeps you very informed obviously.
Looks like the convoy is OK to go. Note that the route is through Kiev controlled territory. Can't see them shooting at it and through their own foot at the same time. They are much too busy having a proper go at Donetsk.
SOCHI, August 12 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine notified the Russian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday that it was ready to receive humanitarian aid supplies to the population of violence-torn eastern regions of the country, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
A convoy of 280 trucks is expected to arrive at the Ukrainian border on Wednesday, carrying some 2,000 tons of relief aid contributed by Moscow and the Moscow Region.
"We received today a notification confirming Ukraine's readiness to receive this aid," Lavrov told reporters in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.
The minister said the Kiev authorities had guaranteed the security of the deliveries along a humanitarian corridor controlled by Kiev-led forces.
Lavrov also stressed that independence supporters in eastern Ukraine had also been notified of the humanitarian mission, and expressed hope that they would not interfere with the deliveries.
Earlier on Monday, Moscow and Kiev said in a statement that they have agreed to a Red Cross-led humanitarian mission to the war-torn Ukrainian region of Luhansk, where food and energy supplies are running short.
Reading about this change of heart by the Kiev authorities, can't help thinking that someone maybe read them their horoscope.
What the hell is Putin thinking? Both the OSCE and the ICRC were proven to be compromised pro-EU and pro-NATO organizations after they were both caught red-handed during the 90's Balkans War facilitating spying for NATO. The hypocritical do-gooder ICRC was even caught helping to smuggle arms into the hands of violent Muslim Jihadists in the Kosovo Liberation Army ("KLA"). If Putin wants the aid delivered directly to those who need it, he just needs to roll the damned trucks into Donetsk and Lugansk with a heavily armed escort. Period.
From: http://www.truedemocracy.net/hj33/15.html
"The police in the three countries contend the arms smuggling to the KLA has been arranged, with the help of the American CIA, through Portugal among other places. And the International Red Cross have reportedly played the role of facilitators".
