Ferguson: "War Zone Or US City?"... The Morning After
Ferguson suffered its 5th night of unrest; as we feared during the day yesterday, when night fell in Ferguson, a combination of massive SWAT team presence and an increasingly disillusioned citizenry were a recipe for disaster. Over 70 heavily-armed police enforced quasi-martial-law in the troubled town, at least 10 people were arrested, tear gas and rubber bullets were unleashed, and 2 reporters were (briefly) arrested. Perhaps Rep. Justin Amash summed it up best, "Is this a war zone or a US city? Gov't escalates tensions w/military equipment & tactics."
"I've had enough of being pushed around because of the color of my skin. I'm sick of this police brutality," said one protester, who gave only his first name, Terrell, 18. "I'm going to keep coming back here night after night until we get justice."
Clashes broke out between police and protesters overnight in Ferguson, Missouri, four days after police shot to death an unarmed black teen.

Police in Ferguson, Missouri, fired tear gas, stun grenades and smoke bombs to disperse some 350 protesters late Wednesday, the fourth night of racially charged demonstrations after police shot to death an unarmed black teen.
Some demonstrators hurled rocks at police as others scattered, while smoke engulfed the area. A Reuters reporter saw two young men preparing what looked like petrol bombs in a bus-stop shelter, their faces covered by bandanas. Police said protesters had thrown petrol bombs at officers.
Protesters have gathered every night since Saturday when 18-year-old Michael Brown was shot to death in the mostly black suburb of St. Louis, during what authorities said was a struggle over a gun in a police car. Some witnesses say he was outside the car with his hands up.
Police have deployed camouflage-clad officers in body armor, including one manning a rifle on a tripod atop an armored car, to Ferguson.

More arrests...
A St. Louis alderman, Antonio French [who has become a Twitter celebrity with his Vines], was among some 10 people arrested on Wednesday evening, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch newspaper reported. About 40 protesters have been arrested since Saturday.
But the Police say they are trying to help...
Police Chief Thomas Jackson told reporters his priority was improving race relations in Ferguson, which has seen a stark demographic shift in recent decades, going from mostly white to mostly black. About two-thirds of the town's 21,000-strong population are black. On a police force of 53, three officers are black.
"This is an opportunity to fix what's wrong," he said.
Politicians are anxious...
National figures from President Barack Obama to civil rights activist Rev. Al Sharpton have called for a peaceful response to the shooting.
Obama, who is vacationing on the Massachusetts island of Martha's Vineyard, was briefed on Wednesday night about events in Ferguson by senior advisor Valerie Jarrett and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, the White House said.
Missouri Governor Jay Nixon said in a series of Twitter messages he would visit the area on Thursday, and urged "law enforcement to respect rights of residents (and) press" with the hopes that the "ongoing crisis" does not compound Saturday's "tragedy."
"Situation in Ferguson does not represent who we are. Must keep the peace, while safeguarding rights of citizens and the press," Nixon wrote.

As Michael Snyder asks - How is it possible that our once very peaceful nation has fallen apart so dramatically?
Let’s be honest – Ferguson, Missouri is under military occupation right now, and the entire world is watching in horror as militarized police fire tear gas and rubber bullets at unarmed protesters. Yes, the rioting and looting in Ferguson needed to be stopped. If order had not been restored, more stores and businesses would have been destroyed. However, there is no excuse for the brutal tactics now being employed. At one point, police snipers were even using laser scopes to target protesters that were obviously unarmed. Sadly, this is just a preview of what is coming to America in the years ahead. As the economy falls apart and people become even more angry and even more frustrated, there will be a lot more incidents of civil unrest like we have just witnessed in Ferguson. And in response, the federal government and our overly militarized police will seek to crush those uprisings with overwhelming force. ...
when police get all of this equipment, it is inevitable that they are going to use it. One result of this has been the astounding increase in the number of SWAT team raids in America. The following numbers come from my previous article entitled “10 Facts About The SWATification Of America That Everyone Should Know“…
#1 In 1980, there were approximately 3,000 SWAT raids in the United States. Now, there are more than 80,000 SWAT raids per year in this country.
#2 79 percent of the time, SWAT teams are deployed to private homes.
#3 50 percent of the victims of SWAT raids are either black or Latino.
#4 In 65 percent of SWAT deployments, “a battering ram, boot, or some sort of explosive device” is used to gain forced entry to a home.
#5 62 percent of all SWAT raids involve a search for drugs.
#6 In at least 36 percent of all SWAT raids, “no contraband of any kind” is found by the police.
#7 In cases where it is suspected that there is a weapon in the home, police only find a weapon 35 percent of the time.
#8 More than 100 American families have their homes raided by SWAT teams every single day.
#9 Only 7 percent of all SWAT deployments are for “hostage, barricade or active-shooter scenarios”.
#10 Even small towns are getting SWAT teams now. 30 years ago, only 25.6 percent of communities with populations between 25,000 and 50,000 people had a SWAT team. Now, that number has increased to 80 percent.
And of course African-American communities receive a greatly disproportionate amount of attention from our militarized police. Just imagine how you would feel if every time you saw a police officer you cringed in fear because you might be about to get searched again. The following is how author Michelle Alexander put it in her book “The New Jim Crow“…
Ultimately, these stop-and-frisk operations amount to much more than humiliating, demeaning rituals for young men of color, who must raise their arms and spread their legs, always careful not to make a sudden move or gesture that could provide an excuse for brutal - even lethal - force.
Like the days when black men were expected to step off the sidewalk and cast their eyes downward when a white woman passed, young black men know the drill when they see the police crossing the street toward them; it is a ritual of dominance and submission played out hundreds of thousands of times each year.
So what can we do about this?
How can we change the system?
How can we reverse this alarming militarization of our police?
Unfortunately, our system has become so corrupt that there is very little that we can do. In fact, one newly released study discovered that average Americans have a “near-zero” statistical impact on public policy…
A startling new political science study concludes that corporate interests and mega wealthy individuals control U.S. policy to such a degree that “the preferences of the average American appear to have only a minuscule, near-zero, statistically non-significant impact upon public policy.”
The startling study, titled “Testing Theories of American Politics: Elites, Interest Groups, and Average Citizens,” is slated to appear in an upcoming issue of Perspectives on Politics and was authored by Princeton University Professor Martin Gilens and Northwestern University Professor Benjamin Page. An early draft can be found here.
Noted American University Historian Allan J. Lichtman, who highlighted the piece in a Tuesday article published in The Hill, calls Gilens and Page’s research “shattering” and says their scholarship “should be a loud wake-up call to the vast majority of Americans who are bypassed by their government.”

They are indeed burning and blowing things up, but they're destroying their OWN city. They will be allowed to do this for a while just to get it out of their system.
Now if they did this in Georgetown or some other center of the aristocracy, there would be some real blood in the streets. The tanks would open fire with the 50-cals.
Just a thought, those nice, white soldiers in Ferguson are destroying their OWN Constitution.
I am white but grew up 'black' in an African-American community that was 95% black and me. When I went off to school, I was part of the black community on campus. I worked on behalf of the civil rights movement in my town ... all with the goal of creating a color-blind society and by the mid 80's it seemed that we were moving in the right direction with equal opportunity for schools, jobs, and housing . Then moving into the 2000's something started to shift ... the leadership of the black community, although always liberal, turned hard left and the goal of color-blindness seemed to morph into a victim mentality that said, "you owe me 'cause we slaves 150 years ago and the police arrest more black folks than white". Gangsta rap flooded the music scene that reinforced the idea that the "Man" was out to repress and subjugate you and with this the most pernicious attitude of all that success in school was somehow a sign of weakness and failure.
This trend has been encouraged and amplified by the first black president and his attorney general and a media who can't report truth by a blind faith in all things Liberal. We are deep trouble and it will continue as long as truth cannot be told and facts are discounted by ideology. Black crime is a problem (http://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/2014-chicago-murders/map) and black people are the victims. Unfortunately, until we, as a society, admit that it is not racism that is the problem and that color-blindness is our goal ... we are screwed and Ferguson will happen over and over.
In all fairness, the president is a Columbia and Harvard Law School graduate. I can't imagine young black men take his life story as a suggestion that "success in school is somehow a sign of weakness or failure." Even staying true to the values of gangster rap, Obama IS the most powerful criminal gangster in the world and he owes it all to his education.
As many petty crimes as inner-city black kids commit, white people in suits tend to commit the most heinous crimes and serve the least amount of time for their actions. Long gone are the days when graduation from an Ivy League school was a sure ticket to an "honest," good living for one's self.
As one Yale Law School graduate told me, his graduating class had the highest INCARCERATION RATE of any other Yale law school class. I see few ways in which everyday gang violence is worse and MANY ways in which crime perpetrated by Yale Law School grads is worse.
I hate to pull the 'my best friends are black" card ... but my circle of African-Americans (friends from childhood and school) overwhelmingly lament the attitude that has taken over the Black Community. Certainly the story of a young black man who has risen to the heights is used as an inspiration to the high achievers, but it is not hip to highly achieve in school and those that do tend to discount it as a core value.
The 'values of Gangsta Rap are not positive, affirming, and uplifting ... certainly not the values that are going to lead to success in anything but Gangsta Rap or criminality.
I agree that Obama is an agent of the most pernicious and wicked conspiracy ever foisted on our nation ... and agree also that the most grievous and heinous crimes are committed by those behind the black-white puppet in the WH.
The aristocracy needs an angry underclass. Assimilation and progress were never the goals.
This kid made a mistake and he paid the price. End of story.
If you're on the turf of a criminal gang and you disrespect a gang member, you're going to get beat up or killed. Everyone knows this. The kid knew it too.
The police are only human and they're going to react just like any other criminal gang. Yes, I'm aware that the police are supposed to follow certain rules, yada, yada, yada. Those are the written rules. I'm talking about the real rules.
The only thing to take solace in is the fact that all the police state tactics -- the use of tanks, military combat gear, tear gas, arresting journalists -- is really an indication of how WEAK and unstable the fascist regime is becoming. In times of peace, police hardly even need guns, let alone military-grade weaponry.
Time's running out.
Bingo! A stable regime would not have to resort to such shows of force (and it's just one big show).
If this was a real-deal nationwide SHTF situation, the cops and everyone above the rank of junior file clerk in local, state, and federal government would be running for their lives!
One of the most concise and true things I've ever read on ZH or any place else on this issue.
The FEAR is showing. I've noted it as well.
Thanks for that.
Here's how this will play out:
1. Obama and other politicians will give speeches and be very concerned, for a little while. Maybe they'll even appoint a panel or something.
2. The looters will be allowed to loot (their own city) for a while just to get it out of their system.
3. Everyone will go back to watching TV.
4. There will be no real changes. It's absurd to think that the police will actually be reined in.
ALTERNATE SCENARIO:
If ordinary man #1 was walking down the street wearing BLUE SHOES and ordinary man #2 stopped man #1 and ordered him to take off his blue shoes, UNLESS there was a CONTRACT (just as a legislated act or statute is a contract) between these 2 men, then if man #1 refused to comply, would man #2 have the RIGHT to forcefully arrest or even shoot man #1?
The answer is obvious: No, of course not!
That is an example of the Common Law in America even today, which supersedes ALL legislated acts as statutes and even supersedes decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court.
“The judgment of a court of record [a Common Law court ONLY] whose jurisdiction is final, is as conclusive on all the world as the judgment of this court [the U.S. Supreme Court] would be. It is as conclusive on this court [the U.S. Supreme Court] as it is on other courts. It puts an end to inquiry concerning the fact, by deciding it." Ex parte Watkins, 3 Pet., at 202-203. [cited by SCHNECKLOTH v. BUSTAMONTE, 412 U.S. 218, 255 (1973)]
Note: that decision was made in 1973. The Common Law is still the PRIMARY law within the U.S., but ONLY if you demand that you be under the Common Law jurisdiction ONLY!
That is why the government (through the state and federal legislatures, plus the courts) make the PRESUMPTION that we have all agreed to be bound by their legislated acts as statutes - that we have all agreed to governments' "civil laws" (which are, by definition, contracts). And in law "A presumption NOT rebutted becomes a fact in Law." meaning that if you are too ignorant and fail to object to such a presumption by the police, courts, IRS or any other government agency, that's your tough luck!
++++++++++++++++++++++++
Background:
First, it should be remembered that police officers have NO MORE RIGHTS than the ordinary man on the street. Police have been granted additional POWERS by government (as government officers or employees) such as carrying firearms where otherwise prohibited, the power to enforce search and arrest warrants, etc.(Of historical interest, in the first police departments created in the U.S., such as in New York, a police officer was NOT allowed to be armed while on duty (much as the police in Britain - as constables or "Bobbies" formerly did not carry firearms); whereas the ordinary man COULD lawfully carry a firearm. The main reasons: 1.) it was feared that armed ploice would soon abuse their authority; and 2.) police officers respond to crime already committed, while it is far more likely that an ordinary armed citizen may be on-scene to interrupt an ongoing crime OR that citizen will be the "first responder" to a crime already committed.
But an ordinary man can lawfully arrest another man - it is often called a "citizen's arrest". And under American (and British) Common Law, a man who is being UNLAWFULLY arrested by a police officer has the RIGHT to FORCEFULLY RESIST that arrest, matching violence with violence, including killing that police officer. This RIGHT was affirmed by the U.S. Supreme Court in the famous John Bad Elk case. In fact, another person - Man #2 witnessing an unlawful arrest by a police officer of man #1, has the RIGHT to stop the police officer from arresting man #1 using as much force as necessary to prevent the unlawful arrest (even lethal force), even if man #1 is not protesting or resisting his own arrest. This is NOT theory; this is a long-established RIGHT under the Common Law and affirmed as such by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Now, the police officer gains his additional POWERS by swearing an OATH (which is a CONTRACT in law), which then gives that officer "limited immunity" from Civil lawsuits when he has acted properly in the performance of his duties. BUT the government PAYS A COST for granting him this "limited immunity". In most instances the town/city is required to purchase a BOND (sort of an insurance policy) for each police officer to ensure that any court judgment against a police officer will be paid to the damaged party. In America true law is the Common Law under which every man has the RIGHT to contract (or NOT to contract) with another man, but each man assumes "full and unlimited commercial liability". In contrast, offices with a government are created by legislated acts (statutes, codes, regulations, ordinances) which are NOT law, but only obtain the "force of law" ONLY through the consent of each individual man. In short, an act or statute is, in fact, an OFFER TO CONTRACT - and if you agree to that contract, then you are bound by that statute. In the case of police officers, by assuming that office created by statute, have agreed to that statute (as a contract) in exchange their salaries, "limited commercial liability" and additional police powers.
P.S. I realize that many of my posts are "long-winded". I am working on it . . .

In the final analysis, the entire 35 and up crowd have nothing to lose. We’ve already discussed in other threads. Once you reach 40, if you lose your job it’s likely you aren’t getting another one.
If you end up shooting at the soldiers, try to give the young soldiers head and spinal wounds so the state has to pay for their long-term upkeep.
You won’t be caught as long as you don’t tell anyone, so don’t tell anyone. Jimmy Hoffa is one example.

The Black community has been in permanent decline ever since they got in bed with white liberals who use them like cheap whores, while destroying the critical thinking skills of its youth in enlightened public schools. Here is a prime example:
http://dailycaller.com/2014/08/13/judge-says-school-should-not-have-fire...
Yeah they sure had the glory days of the black race during slavery.
What a completely ignorant statement on your part.
Sad thing is you probably really believe horesh!t.
You skipped 100 years. How convenient.
What 100 years is that? The 100 where blacks could not vote? Damn those liberals for the voting rights act of 1965 they really did an injustice to the black race with that.
What clownery your thought process is.
Keep trying. You'll figure it out.
Dont' argue with liberals. They do not use cognition. At all. They are too angry anyway. And they (in typical lib fashion) always accuse others of what they are (i.e. angry, racist, etc). Look at the photos above....a LOT of pent up anger, now ain't there?
If the liberal would look objectively at the Black community pre-great society (when they started this incestuous "partnership" with the white liberal), the causes and solutions would be blatantly obvious.
But it is of no use. Far easier to blame others for endemic problems. And hence there will NEVER be any solutions. So let them keep believing in and voting for their liberal slave masters. Invisible chains are far more diabolical than physical ones. And far more permanent.
I got my hope n' change...do you?
Salad speech.
Sarah Palin is that you?
It is fun watching them scramble these days. They are turning on each other. Their work is cut out for them now. Pass the popcorn.
Catch you folks later. Gotta go workout. Be strong for whats coming.
Yes, liberals helped get blacks the right to vote...how cynical.
Meanwhile SC turned from Democratic to Republican just as the Dems started championing civil rights in the 60's. And guess what shimmied up the SC State Legislature's flagpole right about the same time (1962), after an approx. 100 year hiatus. The Stars and Bars! I'm sure that had nothing to do with desegregation. It's not hate, it's heritage, dontchaknow.
Well, well. I usually can't see a difference in the D and R clubs but. It looks like a Democrat has introduced legislation to demilitarize the police.

I don't have a problem with it. I don't worry about the po po. Call me lucky I guess.
I actually mind my own business, do not fuck with anyone else's shit, nor live the thug life....and presto. I actually manage to live fairly well. And aside from the ocassional speeding ticket, I have no interaction with the po po.
But if I lived in a typical D thumper hood.....I would want be a little cautious about disarming the only thing keeping me and my shit destroyed by feral animals.
But that's just me.....
See you at the riot...er.....candlelight vigil.
People who protest in the streets because one of their neighbors was shot dead multiple times by police are feral animals?
My bad. But I prefer to wait for the whole story to come out. You would think the rest of you would as well, since you got played by the media like a violin during the "white-hispanic" perp case that turned out to be...ahem.....not be racial AT ALL. But that was over a year ago, and your memories are not that good. Blame the pot.
I'm sure this poor little helpless child was just minding his own business, on his way to church, volunteer work or something.
I'm sure the cop was just a raciss looking to cap a brutha for no reason.
I'm sure the perp didn't put a hand on the cop.
Oh....and probably another 50 Black men will be killed today by other Black men.
I'm sure there will be a rally for them, too.
And for you to countenance assualtive behavior on those who HAD ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with this incident (e.g. shop owners), all I can say is "fuck you" and hope that one day you get to have your shit burned down by rioting thugs.

Actually YES!
During the Bush administration, Israeli-American dual citizen and Director of Homeland Security Chertoff mandated that American police forces be trained by Israeli groups in crowd control, counter-terrorism and intelligence gathering.
Since that time, shootings of unarmed civilians has gone up 500%, attacks on legal political protests by police have become a scandal and huge stockpiles of ammunition and military heavy weaponry have been distributed to law enforcement groups in every region of America, both local and federally controlled.

Here are a few ideas to fight back against a SWAT raid. Using a handgun or AR15 will not get you very far. You need many projectiles to penetrate the weaknesses in the body armor.
These hot rounds are loaded with the M855 steel cores, no jackets, no lead tails, just the steel cores. There are about 40 of the cores packed in. It has a special steel shot wad to insure that the cores and the barrel play nice, amuzzle velocity of 1,400 FPS which generates a mild 1,500 foot pounds energy. The cores produce a fast opening pattern AND upon impact the cores tumble like little lawn-mower blades. If you want to absolutely shred your target, reach for the M855 shot.

What's come through loud and clear in all the comments on here about Ferguson is that most so-called libertarians are perfectly OK with a police state as long as that police state is harassing black people.
Well, of course! It's only a police state when it's going after a welfare rancher who hasn't paid grazing fees for 25+ years.
History does rhyme.
First they came for the blacks, and I did not speak out—

Then they came for the Trade veterans, and I did not speak out—

Then they came for the poor, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not poor.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Well, it took three days, but the gov finally figured out the locals have way too much military equipment, and far too little brains, to use it correctly.
The locals degenerated into criminal thugs with badges. The tipping point was the arrest of the WashPost and HuffPost reporters, video of the news crew that was gassed. the guns pointed at an unarmed man walking down the sidewalk, the tossing of a tear gas canister into a private residence, clearing out the McDonald's for no reason other than "Because we can" . . . it's an almost endless list of thugs in uniform committing serial felonies.
If these thugs want to play soldier, call Academi and sign up for duty in the Middle East.
In the meantime, take away the toys that these children are obviously incapable of using responsibly.
And put the ones videoed committing felonies in jail - they are no better than the looters and arsonists.

The part that bothers me is the cops would let thier city burn rather than hand over a dirty cop. Or even let a court decide. Only in government. If you fd up like that in the real private sector pfft under the bus you go no questions asked.
Can I get an Amen?
