Putin Punks West (Again): Russian Troops Enter Ukraine, Guardian Reports

Tyler Durden's picture

As Russia's 300-strong 'humanitarian' convoy of white trucks slithered towards the Ukraine border, it appears, according to The Guardian, that, in spite of the market's exuberance at this morning's comments of "avoiding conflict," Vladimir Putin sent a real 'green' military Russian convoy across the Ukraine border late Thursday evening.

As The Guardian reports,

While the white trucks came to a halt well short of Ukraine's border, a different Russian convoy did cross into Ukrainian territory late on Thursday evening.

The Guardian saw a column of 23 armoured personnel carriers, supported by fuel trucks and other logistics vehicles with official Russian military plates, travelling towards the border near the Russian town of Donetsk.

After pausing by the side of the road until nightfall, the convoy crossed into Ukrainian territory, using a rough dirt track and clearly crossing through a gap in a barbed wire fence that demarcates the border. Armed men were visible in the gloom by the border fence as the column moved into Ukraine.

Kiev has lost control of its side of the border in this area.

The trucks are unlikely to represent a full-scale official Russian invasion, and it was unclear how far they planned to travel inside Ukrainian territory and how long they would stay. But it was incontrovertible evidence of what Ukraine has long claimed – that Russian troops are active inside its borders.

...

The armoured column seen by the Guardian appeared to be further evidence of Russia's incursions, which the Kremlin has repeatedly denied.

Read more here...

As The Telegraph confirms,

A column of armoured vehicles and military trucks crossed the border from Russia into Ukraine on Thursday night, in the first confirmed sighting of such an incident by Western journalists.

The Telegraph witnessed a column of vehicles including both armoured personal carriers and soft-skinned lorries crossing into Ukraine at an obscure border crossing near the Russian town of Donetsk shortly before 10pm local time.

We assume this means Stocks will give back all their gains? lol...

*  *  *

Of course, we suspect if one were to ask Putin, this is merely an entry into an independent sovereign republic... not Ukraine per se... although we are sure he knows full well how the West will interpret this action.

In a Third World War no country has to even launch a nuclear armed ICBM. The enemies domestic nuclear power becomes the strategic target. Within days it may be possible to end up with dozens of Fukushimas. The next major war is most likely the end of civilisation. I think the major market crash is a fairly likely scenario.  And of course it will be a false flag(s) that will precipitate it.  The predominant reason I think the market crash is likely is simply because most of the big money is OUT of the stock market.  Have you seen the volumes or lack thereof?  Even for summer, it's non-existent.  It's about time for them to crash it in order to:

1) exert even more control over the populace with directives and laws that usurp more power to "protect" us, prolly form "terrists" again

2) time to rinse and repeat and buy back the market on the cheap, same as in 09.

I'm startin' to think that what we're seeing on the world stage are merely minor squabbles amongst regional oligarchs.  At bottom, they all serve the same master- the international banks.  Why would the master want to eliminate 98 or so percent of the oligarchs' slaves in one fell swoop?  The answer is he doesn't.

The idea is to create enough mischief to keep the slaves occupied, and collateral damage (you) is not only an acceptable outcome, it is a requirement.

Thus, the oligarchs are allowed to feel powerful, making them unlikely to turn on the master, and the serfs are easily controlled by the squabbles of the oligarchs.

The master doesn't want to destroy all of us, just enough to keep us unaware of his existence.

Why eliminate large chunks of population?

Technology, automation. Don't need the serfs anymore, at least not the thinking ones.

Thu, 08/14/2014 - 21:29 | 5095348 acetinker
acetinker's picture

...at least not the thinking ones... This, my observant friend will be the undoing of both the oligarchs and the master.  How likely is it that the master and the oligarchs and their various cadres of unthinking, procedure following, policy conforming minions will create actual value?  It's not likely at all, is it?

While I don't sweat global thermonuclear war, I get what you're saying about automation making human labor obsolete, but it's only 'the thinking ones' who make this possible.

This system makes enemies out of the very ones who keep it alive.  It ain't gonna work, CB.  Pure and simple.

You don't need to exterminate obsolete humans actively, just antagonize them to riot.  Witness Ferguson MO.  Those folks are pitifully stupid- not much higher on the food chain than macaques.  That's part of the system, too.  You gotta divide and conquer until there's not a morsel of actual value left that isn't concurrently owned by hundreds of people, who actually believe that they are the sole owners of said morsels-  Then, and only then, do you let the cat outta the bag.

Surprise!  All you fuckers are as destitute and desperate as the rioters in Ferguson.

At the same instant, the master and his oligarchs vanish into the ether.

Simply purporting to "offer" inspections doesn't really mean a genuine, good-faith offer has been made. Was the offer made unconditionally? What were the terms? Those are things that would be helpful to know, although in the propaganda war we may never know the full details.

Thus, I have my suspicions.

There was no "purporting", the offer was made.  Keiv could inspect all cargo, period.

Kiev simply needs to inspect the contents.

Stumpy4516's picture

The two are not related, and the "secret" incursion report is suspect.  But first.

The 300 humanitarian aid trucks are white, they are on a paved road for all to see and Russia has invited Kiev to inspect the contents of each and every truck.  Russia has also invited Kiev to put observers on each truck.  If anyone wants to verify what is in the trucks it is just that simple, go and look.  But Kiev does not want to inspect them because they know what is inside.

Now, the regarding the report of a seperate group of around 20 APC's entering Ukraine.  The reporter claims he followed the trucks on a paved road and stopped when they did for nightfall, then he followed them on an obscure dirt road and then he was allowed to observe them crossing a fence into Ukraine.  Seems odd that the Russians would allow him to tag along and the timing of the report is convienent.

Now we have reports part of the APC convoy was destroyed.  Lets see if this is another false ruse by Kiev/USA where they APC's obtained elsewhere to stage a false battlefield, or if an actual group of Russian military was killed.

Correct.

The point in all of this is that if Ukraine/US expects military vehicles and NOT aid then fucking here it is!

Perhaps the follow-on is that Russia will then push the aid behind this?  The rationale is that if their aid is seen as a military threat then it would be a miliatary target, and Russia would have none of That!

Chess game going on, don't you know...

As I noted above (to this thread/branch), it's possible that Russia is saying that they have no reason to hide their military vehicles, that the aid IS aid.  Also, if Ukraine/West is looking for a military target then, well, here you go! (but stop playing games with aid! "we," Russians, WILL defend those aid vehicles, and here is how!)

The difference in spin between The Guardian and The Telegraph is amusing.

The Guardian, looking like it is desperately trying to make up for all that Snowden stuff, is being exceptionally subservient:

But it was incontrovertible evidence of what Ukraine has long claimed – that Russian troops are active inside its borders.
...
The armoured column seen by the Guardian appeared to be further evidence of Russia's incursions, which the Kremlin has repeatedly denied.

Further evidence? At least The Telegraph obliquely hinted at the truth:

A column of armoured vehicles and military trucks crossed the border from Russia into Ukraine on Thursday night, in the first confirmed sighting of such an incident by Western journalists.

Translation: Yeah, we know that for the last four months, without a single shred of evidence, we've been accusing the Russians of an invasion. But this time it might have really happened! Maybe.

Actually the proof of no Russian invasion taking place is the inability of those making claims to engage the imaginary troops.

US/NATO can say all they want, but unless the troops in question are actually on Ukrainan soil, there's nothing for them to fire at. Even if they somehow succeed, they won't be able to battle Russia without crossing into it first. Remember that those in the Ukraine fighting for independence are Ukrainan residents.

If those are completely eliminated so will the pre-text for war. That's why the whole conflict is taking so damn long. The west wants Russia out, that is not even in and it wants the rebels to give up, by which it means it wants them to keep fighting long enough for Russia to go into the country...

Either that, or driving Kiev into Crimea, which is a suicide, considering the number of Ukrainan troops defecting when faced with rogue batallions in the East. Nevermind going against an actual military base, with full naval and air support, that Russia already recognizes as part of its territory.

If Ukraine attacks Crimea, the West will want to distance itself from the decision as far as possible, much like when it blessed Saddam to go into Kuwait. Then: "We said what? No! We did none of that! It's all his fault!"

Sakhashvili in Georgia was in a similar situation - looking for US blessing and getting it... sort of. If he didn't think he'd receive backing, he would have not thrown his troops into the trap.

So, the West is pretty much parallized here. The coup didn't work out. The provocation didn't either. All they do now is keep the conflict alive and the propaganda fresh until they can either come up with a better plan, or until Russia makes a mistake... another false flag perhaps.

They're shitting their pants over the possibility of MH17 data surfacing. They're probably spending half of their resources combing the ranks, looking for "Snowdens".

Germany is slowly dislodging from the Western machine. Its media has successfully been infiltrated in the propaganda war. They're now backing Russia, releasing hidden documents to the media. Probably still pissed over the Merkel scandal and trying to get back at us.

... and then there are riots in the US, Ebola and many other things happening, none of which affect Russia.

In WW2 we were protected from Europe by the oceans. Today it's Russia that is enjoying segregation and stability, while the rest of the world is falling apart around it.

Well reasoned...

Not sure if Russia can feel like it's protected.  It's STILL a matter of location, location, location.  And let's face it, very few countries enjoy the defensible position that the US does (with only two countries on its combined borders [well, there's Sarah Palin and her ability to "see Russia" thing).

Thu, 08/14/2014 - 19:12 | 5094758 Grumbleduke

Judging by the riots in Ferguson I'd say it would be pretty easy for Russia to tear the US apart. Without significant boots on the ground. Then take the Maidan/Caracas/Bukares script and start a real "colour" revolution. Get a few snipers in, and start the Maidan Dance for Democracy.

Start some shootings in police uniforms, wait for the night a shoot at rioters and cops alike. Bring this mayhem to a few cities all over the US simultaneously, and your precious exceptional mall you call a country is over.

This is what a chess player in a real war would do. But it isn't been done, isn't it?

Thu, 08/14/2014 - 19:46 | 5094870 JuliaS
JuliaS's picture

I don't know whether the scenario you describe would percipitate anything in the US. We all know what happens when police gets shot in this country, as in the recent example with one of their own turning the gun. You get a Boston-scale response and a public execution. When civilians are shot - you get riots, not because the public is pissed, but because they're looking for any oportunity to justify lawlessness. Sports riots or ones related to murders? I can't even tell the difference. Same outcome. Looting and stealing.

Nobody goes after politicians, bankers or anyone even remotely connected to the source of all social problems. Those have a greater chance of having an unfortunate encounter with a nailgun than receiving any real justice.

The story of an unarmed mother with a year old baby in the back seat getting gunned down for driving too close to a federal building - if that doesn't cause riots in this country, then we have long passed the point of no return. I'm convinced that nothing will get people rallying in this country for the right cause. Nothing!

If something like this doesn't get the blood boiling, then the country is dead. Period.

Russia needs to do to the US the same thing it does to Ukraine - sit back and relax with a bucket of popcorn. We'll do the rest ourselves. No agent provocateurs needed.

The country (USA) is certainly near-dead; an adversary might well think, as Mr. Hitler did re Stalin's USSR, that all one has to do is "kick in the doors", and the place will collapse.

From the point of view of those in charge of the USA, a major war is indeed highly desirable. A new Great Patriotic War.

I think they said leaving Donetsk. The convoy was only 25 miles from the border earlier in the day, and Donetsk is only a few miles from the border. But who knows, this could be a fake headline to later say Ukrainian army repelled Russian invasion.

Globe and Mail and Fox had this:

CRIMEA: PUTIN STRIKES CONCILIATORY NOTE

"Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday Russia would stand up for itself but not at the cost of confrontation with the outside world, a conciliatory note after months of tough rhetoric over the crisis in Ukraine."

'Buy Ukrainian garlic, just don't get greedy like the Russians.' That'll keep the exuberance going for a while longer perhaps.

Cause we got a little convoy
Rockin' through the night.
Yeah, we got a little convoy,
Ain't she a beautiful sight?
Come on and join our convoy
Ain't nothin' gonna get in our way.
We gonna roll this truckin' convoy
'Cross the U-Kraine.
Convoy!

By the time we got into Donetsk Town,
We had eighty-five trucks in all.
But they's a roadblock up on the cloverleaf,
And them Ukees was wall-to-wall.
Yeah, them smokies is thick as bugs on a bumper;
They even had a Ukee in the air!
I says, "Callin' all trucks, this here's The Vlad.
"We about to go a-huntin' Ukee."

[Chorus]

You're going to be downvoted for saying that but you're right. Why ZH has such a pro-Russian slant is a mystery to me. Isn't it obvious to everyone that America and Russia are just warring superstates ala Oceania, Eurasia and Eastasia? There is no "good government" in all of this. Even before Kiev was taken over by a CIA-led junta, it was still a terrible place to live ruled over by an autocrat.

I feel terrible for the people of Ukraine, as I feel terrible for the people of Iraq, and so many others in the world. There will be no peace for them now or even in the foreseeable future. The people who cheerlead either government are complete assholes who don't know what they're saying.

Russia's intelligence agencies may not be as destructive as America's, but if Russia gained the type of military and economic superiority America enjoys, it would convert into the same type of governance style and employ the same types of policies (both domestic and foreign) as America. Obviously. How anyone misses that is beyond me.

NO govt is safe or to be trusted.  The more power a govt has the more ruthless it can be (and usually is): it has continual forces against it trying to either take over that power or to knock it down; it's all pretty predictable (hence why I say that the ONLY real change is to discourage positions of power from forming at all- this is, however, as all idealistic thoughts are, more likely to end up fantasy than reality).

I will keep loving Putin until he leads the charge to reign in the mindless American beast being ridden by their insane zionist masters. After that Putins oligarchs will become a problem, but thats another story for another day. There will always be governments, controlled by oligarchs, with loads of sheeple bleating at them . There will always be some clusterfuck of morons thinking whatever, genes, God, or color, makes them a master race. Free minded men will always be a fragmented minority who have to hide from the slave system or dance between its raindrops. If that system becomes too unbalanced the degree of overt slavery will become unbearable and I don't relish running around in the streets with suffering bleating sheeple while the oligarch's government militia takes pot shots at me. So Putin is neccessary for balance. Balance reduces slavery because it needs some degree of freedom to create the wealth oligarchs and government need to finance their slave mechanisms. Do you think the mob of sheeple is due to come to an understanding of the mechanics of freedom anytime soon? Balanced slavery is all you get, so get with it and support Putin to put the brakes on this world slavery thing the sociopaths are trying to cook up. After America gets cut down a few notches and the zio's lose their favorite beast of burden, you can deal with Putin (and maybe the Chinese). It will still be ice cream slavery, just a different flavor, we can call it Baskin Robbins slavery.
