Putin Punks West (Again): Russian Troops Enter Ukraine, Guardian Reports

Tyler Durden's picture

As Russia's 300-strong 'humanitarian' convoy of white trucks slithered towards the Ukraine border, it appears, according to The Guardian, that, in spite of the market's exuberance at this morning's comments of "avoiding conflict," Vladimir Putin sent a real 'green' military Russian convoy across the Ukraine border late Thursday evening.

As The Guardian reports,

While the white trucks came to a halt well short of Ukraine's border, a different Russian convoy did cross into Ukrainian territory late on Thursday evening.

The Guardian saw a column of 23 armoured personnel carriers, supported by fuel trucks and other logistics vehicles with official Russian military plates, travelling towards the border near the Russian town of Donetsk.

After pausing by the side of the road until nightfall, the convoy crossed into Ukrainian territory, using a rough dirt track and clearly crossing through a gap in a barbed wire fence that demarcates the border. Armed men were visible in the gloom by the border fence as the column moved into Ukraine.

Kiev has lost control of its side of the border in this area.

The trucks are unlikely to represent a full-scale official Russian invasion, and it was unclear how far they planned to travel inside Ukrainian territory and how long they would stay. But it was incontrovertible evidence of what Ukraine has long claimed – that Russian troops are active inside its borders.

...

The armoured column seen by the Guardian appeared to be further evidence of Russia's incursions, which the Kremlin has repeatedly denied.

Read more here...

As The Telegraph confirms,

A column of armoured vehicles and military trucks crossed the border from Russia into Ukraine on Thursday night, in the first confirmed sighting of such an incident by Western journalists.

The Telegraph witnessed a column of vehicles including both armoured personal carriers and soft-skinned lorries crossing into Ukraine at an obscure border crossing near the Russian town of Donetsk shortly before 10pm local time.

Of course, we suspect if one were to ask Putin, this is merely an entry into an independent sovereign republic... not Ukraine per se... although we are sure he knows full well how the West will interpret this action.

So... Putin would say this is "merely an entry into an independent sovereign republic?" That seems like a strange thing to say. I doubt he would refer to American military entering Russian territory as "merely an entry into an independent sovereign republic," and I doubt he takes his own actions as lightly.

A minor point to make I know, but what the fuck ZH? The last part of this article shouldn't even exist.

I'm trying to imagine what I would be doing in the Eastern United States if my cousins in Canada were overthrown by a "military putsch" that the majority of the Country didn't want from a foreign invader funding it -but got anyway and the news simply was getting worse by the day, with rape, torture and death.

Especially the number of civilian casualties doubling in the last month alone?!!!

At some point you don't leave family extended or otherwise to reap what they never had coming to them in the first place -No matter what the costs end up being!

I'll say it again Mr. President you started something that you and your "blue helmeted" jew fanatic pals will definitely not finish and most assuredly will regret.

Not an aggresor, supplying means to defend east from Kiev and US assholes is very honorable. Talk about spending millions to feed military on the border too.

I think NATO will be first to invade not Putin. By sending "help to defend against terrorists" who are simply defending themselves from being raped and pillaged. Take the East and you'll see Maidan in Moscow too. If you cannot think this way, then you need to educate yourself as the person above linked you to.

At this point, I actually hope this isn't a False Flag or just more hysterical MSM/ Kiev BS.   It's about damned time Putin grew a pair and called USA's/ EU's/ NATO's bluff.  Hell, Putin was letting Russia get sanctioned for doing essentially nothing for a couple of months but calling for a bi-lateral ceasefire, while ethnic Russians were getting ethnically-clensed on the border of his country.  Putin has nothing to lose by invading at this point and if he's falling into a trap, so be it.

This Russian military convoy will hopefully plough the road for a serious invasion and will wack any of those goosestepping Right Sector Nazi wannabee bastards that get in the way.   If Willy Wonka, Yats, Nuland, and the banksters want a war, hopefully the Russian army will now give them a taste of a real one, maybe even a bigger taste than they had bargained for.

If Russian decides to cut loose, the only real thing the USA (and NATO) can do to stop them is go nuclear.  Will they over Ukraine?   I think not.   Hopefully, I'm right.

I posted something below and said that it looks like the armored column crossed the border with Kiev's okay to secure the road from the Russia to Donetsk.

There must be an agreement, with Barroso and Poroshenko, to let the 300 trucks roll. Putin may have had to give up something pricing gas, but he is more concerned about the lives of the Russians in Donetsk than the Western swine who were holding the besieged city hostage and pumping heavy artillery into it.

I have stopped worrying about the armored column and expect to hear the terms of the agreement when the 300 white trucks roll tomorrow or Saturday.

I am sure this must be a spoof or something, Kiev urged (not told) to cut artillery bombardment of civilians!

They must want them moved to hit something else.

WASHINGTON, August 15 (RIA Novosti) – Washington urges Kiev authorities not to use heavy artillery in a military operation against eastern independence supporters to reduce casualties among the civilian population, US State Department deputy spokesperson Marie Harf said Thursday.

“We’ve called on them not to use weapons that could increase that,” Harf said during the daily briefing.

Washington is very supportive of Kiev authorities and their military operation in eastern regions of Ukraine, the spokesperson added.

Kiev has been conducting a military operation targeting Luhansk and Donetsk regions, which refused to recognize the legitimacy of the new government and chose to pursue independence.

And you can guess how credible the second source is from its other story:

"Like a battered wife whose husband promises not to hit her again for the twentieth time, the western media is breathing a collective sigh of relief (and the markets are soaring accordingly) after Vladimir Putin made conciliatory statements in Crimea regarding continuing his confrontation with the West."

-----

The Australian says "Russian aid convoy poised to cross border into Ukraine"

"RAISING the stakes in Ukraine’s conflict, a Russian aid convoy of more than 200 trucks pushed up to the border but then stopped, provocatively poised to cross into rebel-held territory.

The Ukrainian government threatened to use all means available to block the convoy if the Red Cross was not allowed to inspect the cargo."

Another story concerning Ukraine, Russia and the EU was also reported Thursday.

My guess is that it preceeded the the column of Russian vehicles that entered Ukraine today.

"EC, Russia, Ukraine Agree to Hold Talks on Association Pact, Gas Supplies"

"MOSCOW, August 14 (RIA Novosti) - The presidents of the European Commission, Russia and Ukraine have agreed to hold talks on gas supplies, EU-Ukraine trade pact as well as on the current situation in Ukraine, the European Commission said on Thursday."

The Russian column may have entered Ukraine as part of this agreement.  And it entered with the approval of Kiev.  So the entry of the column means much less than meets the eye.

It also means that Nuland, Poroshenko and Barosso were playing with peoples lives to get a better gas deal from Putin.

Apparently a deal was done days ago and was kept quiet until Russia's 300 white trucks rolled to the Ukraine border.  If you look at the following stories in the Russian media, you'll see nothing but honeyed words from the adversaries and a desire for peace.

The Red Cross will be inspecting the trucks on Friday and, more to the point, a Russian convoy of armored vehicles has crossed the border to secure the route against the pro-Kiev militias who may be roaming the country side occupied by pro-Russian forces.

THE DEAL IS DONE

WASHINGTON, August 15 (RIA Novosti) – Washington urges Kiev authorities not to use heavy artillery in a military operation against eastern independence supporters to reduce casualties among the civilian population, US State Department deputy spokesperson Marie Harf said Thursday.

BRUSSELS, August 14 (RIA Novosti) – EU member states’ foreign ministers have no plans to discuss new economic sanctions against Russia, a high-ranking EU representative told the press Thursday.

YALTA, August 14 (RIA Novosti) – Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday relayed to the heads of the country’s political parties that Russia will do everything in its power in order to end the conflict in Ukraine.

MOSCOW, August 14 (RIA Novosti) - Russia’s Foreign Ministry on Thursday called for an immediate ceasefire in violence-torn eastern Ukraine to ensure the safe delivery of humanitarian aid to civilian population suffering amid armed clashes between Kiev-led forces and independence supporters.

MOSCOW, August 14 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Ukrainian counterpart Pavlo held a phone conversation Thursday and discussed the practical steps that should be taken to provide crisis-torn eastern regions of Ukraine with humanitarian aid, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said.

MOSCOW, August 14 (RIA Novosti) – Officials of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) met Moscow’s convoy carrying humanitarian aid to Ukraine in Russia’s southern Rostov Region, ICRC tweeted Thursday.

MOSCOW, August 15, 0:07 /ITAR-TASS/. President Vladimir Putin and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso may meet in person but the date and place of the meeting would have to be agreed via diplomatic channels, the presidential press service said on Thursday

I never thought Putin would send troops into Ukraine.  He's much smarter than that.

And as there was no outcry from Kiev, I trust I amright.

Thanks for that info...

The inference I draw from those comments is that Western MSM (UK Guardian, Telegraph and probably others) are wilfully misreporting the reason for the Russian military convoy that apparently entered East Ukie. Their news articles suggest it is "yet another" Russian incursion into East Ukie to stoke up the civil war whereas it was actually pre-agreed with Kiev and is to protect the convoy from attack by the mad fascist militias.

At this point we don't know the absolute truth because of propaganda on both sides. But I'm prepared to believe that the military convoy didn't simply enter on its own accord with orders from Moscow. It would have been attacked within hours.

Absolutely correct.

This propaganda was either the result of the West wanting to get more out of Russia in the coming agreement or to placate the Nazi members of Poroshenko's coalition and then present them with a fait accompli.

Then again, it is hard to overlook Kiev's white phosphorous attack last night on Donetsk, its hard to over look the daily civilian deaths, its hard to over look that the Kiev government endorse neo-nazi's. It is hard not to notice that the MSM narrative is to avoid disturbing truths. This whole war is stupid. The war profiteers are loving it, just ask Hunter Biden. But these guys apparently saw the same thing:

So @RolandOliphant and I just saw a column of APCs and vehicles with official Russian military plates cross border into Ukraine. - Shaun Walker (@shaunwalker7) August 14, 2014

From the Telegraph article (by Roland Oliphant):

"...The Telegraph did see a substantial number of vehicles pass through check point manned by gunmen after shadowing the convoy down narrow country lanes near the frontier."

From the Guardian article (by Shaun Walker):

"...the convoy crossed into Ukrainian territory, using a rough dirt track and clearly crossing through a gap in a barbed wire fence that demarcates the border. Armed men were visible in the gloom by the border fence..."

If Putin wanted eastern Ukraine with it's antiquated infrastructure and energy inefficient industry, Russia would have moved in right after the referendums, just like Crimea. There would have been little or no response from Ukraine at that time, just like Crimea. So clearly Putin doesn't want it as Russia has many similar areas with similar problems. But he does have to care about Russian public opinion about ethnic Russians outside the country being liquidated. In this case you do what he's done, bluff, fake, posture, provide limited support; but eastern Ukraine is a poisoned prize now that the infrastructure is not only old, but obliterated. The Uke Nazi will be fighting a guerilla war there for decades if they win and it will drain them mercilessly. Putin is smart enough to avoid that given the recent experience with Chechnya. Having Ukraine as a docile subject would have been best for Putin, neutral acceptable, but he's likely more concerned about Georgia and Azerbaijan given their location adjacent ally Iran than seeing Ukraine becoming a failed fascist state now that they have retaken Crimea.

Ukraine is just another part of WW3 with the anglo-american alliance, their puppets (EU, CAN,AUS, NZ), manipulator (Israel) and masters (bankers) fighting for global domination. The west has unfortunately become a giant immoral parasite, and countries that attempt to maintain independence from it are attacked militarily, economically or both. Battles between anglo-american alliance puppet elements and nationalist groups fighting to remain in control of their countries are taking place all over the world. Some are hot, some cool, but they are everywhere. Nobody should trust or particularly admire Putin, but his actions are clearly nationalist and opposed to the globalist regime. The race is on between the BRICS who are trying to escape the system and the anglo-american alliance who is trying to maintain it. Hot wars increase with the financial system becoming increasingly warped and perverted. Darkness is falling rapidly as people like PCR warn.

Hmm... will this negatively impact the ability of the Nazi/Zionist/Bankster putsch regime from killing civilians and shelling across the border?

It's clearly not an invasion force, and APCs don't make it so.  And I suppose the dastardly Putin could be hiding rifles and grenades in amongst the food in the convoy, but it seems best to hold off on assuming so.  If the Red Cross is not allowed to inspect the entire convoy tomorrow or Saturday, then it would suggest some sort of slow moving intervention in and around Donbass which, as you know, is being shelled by Kiev.

If the Russians insist on delivering food and medical aid, which politics aside, seems to be needed greatly (even Kiev is getting in on the aid convoy act apparently) they may also, not entirely unreasonably, want to have sufficient firepower to protect them and not rely on the goodwill and guarantee of safe passage from Ukraine.

I don't claim to know, but I tend to doubt a media, even a relatively decent paper like The Guardian, that spent a great deal of time covering Israel's attack on Gaza with claims of precision strikes, contrasted with the imprecision, therefore criminal nature, ineffectiveness notwithstanding, of Hamas and IJ rockets, particularly as flechette shells, cluster bombs, etc. are by definition not 'precision' and things like white phosphorus and DU shells were manifestly not used to illuminate the night sky or pierce armor, but to horrendously injure civilians.

Without seeing what the 'military convoy' actually consists of, it is impossible to make any kind of educated guess about what it is tasked with, but without tanks, air support, special forces, and support mobilization, the idea it is meant to be an invasion force is pretty much absurd, imho, but I'm willing to hear out anyone who might have reason to disagree.

What your article from Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (a CIA-funded shill) fails to mention is that Europe and the US do not want Iran's gas thru a proposed pipeline because it would earn revenues for Iran. They want Qatari gas through a different pipeline that runs thru Syria. And therein lies the major reason for overthrowing Assad: because he refuses the Qatari pipeline across Syria.

I'm sure that if Iran was allowed to build its pipeline it would be very happy. But Washington won't allow it. All of this has been discussed at length on ZH many times over the past months.

I know that Russians know that state and the Jewish/neocon led NGOs are going forward with a handful of activities to destabilize Russia.

The question is, do they sit back and play defense?

How hard is it to pay inner city protesters to go out in the streets after giving them free booze, maybe laced with adrenaline and testosterone agonists?

In New York.

Or in Jerusalem.

Remember - the neocon/interventionist and "globalist" chessboard is not for the benefit of the American people, but merely means to use them as pawns.
