Putin Says The Petrodollar Must Die, "The Dollar Monopoly In Energy Trade Is Damaging Russia's Economy"

Tyler Durden's picture

On one hand, despite initial weakness following Europe's triple-dip red alert, futures declined only to surge higher after some headline or another out of Russia was again spun to suggest imminent Ukraine de-escalation (something which Russia whose only interest is to keep crude prices high, has absolutely zero interest in), perpetuating a rumor which was set off by a Russian media outlet tweet last week that has sent S&P futures over 50 higher in less than a week on... nothing.

On the other, Putin just said the following, which no matter how one spins it, shows precisely how Russia is inclined vis-a-vis future (un-de-counter) escalations.

PUTIN SAYS RUSSIA SHOULD AIM TO SELL OIL AND GAS FOR ROUBLES GLOBALLY, AS DOLLAR MONOPOLY IN ENERGY TRADE IS DAMAGING ECONOMY

Reuters adds:

President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday Russia should aim to sell its oil and gas for roubles globally because the dollar monopoly in energy trade was damaging Russia's economy.

"We should act carefully. At the moment we are trying to agree with some countries to trade in national currencies," Putin said during a visit to the Crimea region, which Moscow annexed from Ukraine earlier this year.

Countries such as China, India, Iran, Brazil, and virtually every other non-insolvent, that is to say "developed, Western" country.

And now, bring on the Russian "isolation" (which is about to push Europe, not Russia, into a triple-dip recession) and further de-escalation.

Yes, there is de-dollarization happening, but it means that companies ar lacking currencies - those that actually other companies need, like USD, EURO, etc. No-one wants those yuan, rubles - so that is a major problem for company that works global.

Most countries need this stuff called oil.

Keep trying.

Your post is actually in bold and italics and has multiple leading carriage returns before any text, it could begin with an >em< tag, or it could begin with another tag, there's no way for us to know. But if you can vote and change your vote on my post then Sac fixed/upgraded what was a known issue with >em< tags (or whatever the html/RichText gets reformatted to on the back-end).

Dear Ghordius,

The citizens of Crimea, alarmed at the vacuum of authority in the land following the overthrow of the legitimately elected government of the country, overwhelmingly petitioned Moscow for inclusion in the Russian Federation.

Moscow, understanding that US interference in Ukraine, which began in earnest in 2004 with the Orange Revolution and culminated in the violent overthrow of the legitimate government in 2014, constituted an attempt to dragoon Ukraine into a military alliance hostile to Russia, welcomed Crimea into the federation.

This was not a premeditated Hitlerian Anschluss, part of a large, nefarious plan to radically remake the map of Europe, but a measure undertaken in extremis that would not have happened at all if Washington had been content to mind its own business, which, needless to say, it never is.

I know you are not saying otherwise.

The Turkish seizure of Northern Cyprus was undertaken violently and in contravention of Security Council resolution.  Just because it wasn't annexed by the Turkish Republic does not make it any less an egregious violation of international law.  Again, I know you are not saying otherwise.

Winston -- what empire?  Ukraine isn't foreign to Russia much less abroad.  And Russia wouldn't be involved there to anything like the present degree if Washington were not bound and determined to rope the place into its global hive of compliant states the better to use it as a club with which to beat Russia.  I see the US has an empire, but where is the Russia's empire?

It's going to take a long time. The Fed has a lot of staying power in the global money monopoly game.Look at Japan. It's a basket case.Money printing on that island has been going on for a couple of decades. They're throwing everything at it to keep their ponzi going. The whole system is designed for continual expansion and will go bust if debt doesn't continue to expand on an exponential bases. The Fed is doing the same thing in order to hold up the industrial-military complex and all the jobs that go with it.What we are witnessing right now is the development of different trading blocks around the globe.Obviously it's the result of the representatives of half the world's population being left out of the major monetary power structures controlled by Americans,British and Europeans. The goal of the old system is to cross the globe and keep poor people poor and cause chaos through bribery and through military rule and war.The Keynesian money printing, slavery system has finally shot itself in the foot and is now in decline. It's morally and financially bankrupt.I'm not religious myself but I look at the present Fed controlled fiat currency system in the States as being UNCONSTITUTIONAL and being what religious folks call the monetary antichrist that is also destroying the earth enviromentally.don't ever make the big mistake of callin your American Dollar bill money. It's not. It's a Federal Reserve Note. It's not a Treasury Note. It's fiat paper currency issued by private banks that have been given the power to control U.S. Monetary policy. The American Constitution says that only gold and silver are true money. The world's population is going to double soon and everybody knows deep down inside that the present inequalities in every society around the earth cannot continue. It cannot continue to serve the wealthy global banking elite that controls politicians. That's why ron Paul wants to end The Fed.Don't believe it?Then watch this and the earlier episodes. The present system is designed to keep you working for a bunch of garbage paper fiat currency bills. You are to work for this crap like you are a cheap slave in order to make global corporations and bankers rich while you help destroy our mother earth which is sacred to native peoples.Wake up to it.

Very interesting.  Everyone previously who said "to hell" with the fiat central banksters, even in less direct and major ways, has soon vanished from existence.  Putin will have a lot of supporters in the west if he manages to cripple the central banksters.  Or course, Russia has a central bank too, so perhaps this only about avoiding all the aggressive and egregious behavior of the USSA (neocons).

Could be.  Makes sense.  While I'll never accept central bank fiat as acceptable, I do feel slightly less assaulted and endangered by a central bank that is overtly and completely controlled by the predators who call themselves "the government".

Why?  Because at least we know who they are.  Being hidden from sight gives the predators in control of other [western] central banks unlimited freedom to completely screw everyone over.  While I'm sure "government" controlled central banks are also nefarious predators only concerned with their own power and riches, they at least operate partially in sight.

So yeah, I do suspect there is probably a difference.

If you are selling real goods you must either be paid in real money (gold or silver) or at least be paid in a currency of your choice. So Putin in this regard is correct.

Perhaps dollars should be kept for all manner of speculation taking place.....i.e. for all the BS transactions that do not produce any real wealth but which steal real wealth from those that have laboured to produce it.

In this manner, when the BS speculative economy goes down the real economy remains intact.

Putin Buys Massive Gold Reserves - Bets That U.S. Dollar Will Collapse

 Monday, 11 February 2013 06:30 Brandon Smith

When Vladimir Putin says the U.S. is endangering the global economy by abusing its dollar monopoly, he’s not just talking. He’s betting on it.

Not only has Putin made Russia the world’s largest oil producer, he’s also made it the biggest gold buyer....

Can't. If interest rates increase the government will default on the debt. We are at 0% interest until the collapse, unless TPTB intentionally wish to collapse the dollar. Either way TPTB have painted themselves into a corner.

The bonds are not floating rate, are they?

Higher interest rates should only affect new bonds, so the federal government would have to reduce the deficit.

The secondary market might be broken, if everyone rushes to sell the bonds as their current price plummets, other than those looking to hold to maturity. That's what plunge protection and QE are for, to sponge up any bond dump.

Putin: "We should act carefully."

Yep - Putin can't afford an aborted attempt to kill the petrodollar. If that were to happen then Russian credibility on this score would collapse, and the petrodollar would only be much more firmly entrenched. Remember the euro challenge to the dollar? When it failed, it only helped the dollar.

So Vladdy-Poot has to "act carefully", making sure not to let his announcements get ahead of his concrete agreements with exporters and importers around the globe. He has to put together a firm anti-petrodollar coalition, and quickly, so that the challenge will be totally successful.

So, agreements with a few key players this year, test it out, work out the wrinkles, and then attract a whole shitload of players to the coalition sometime next year. Result? Petrodollar goes into cardiac arrest in 2015/2016.

When LTCM blew up in the 1990's there was a danger that people would start discussing the proper function of risk in the markets. It was necessary to bail out the fund but without using any taxpayer money.

LTCM was after all a Hedge fund, known for huge risky bets, not adhering to any financial (banking) regulations.

We are talking about transparency here.Accountability.Integrity....

The Wall Street types want free everything when the markets are going well. And then they want a bailout when their highly leveraged positions turn sour.

If you are standing at the craps table in vegas getting ready to roll the dice,it makes a huge difference if someone is holding a running chainsaw near your testicles.

The FED and Congress should never have bailed out Wall Street in 2008. Moral Hazard....

So now we are in the same boat as Japan, when they propped up their shitty banks instead of closing them down.

The question now is will the young agree to A) fight overseas once more for the Bankers, and B) will they turn their bayonets towards the crowds in America.

I guess we will find out soon.

I think people should read the last bit of "The Maltese Falcon" by Dashiell Hammett.

He has Sam Spade collect all the conspirators in the room and tells them"It's no deal unless they agree to provide him with a fall guy, someone the DA can hang the rap on".

If the FED think Madeoff will satisfy for a sacrificial goat, then they have been smoking some good stuff.

It's no different in Western countries. Democratic accountability doesn't work here any better than elsewhere. What voters fail to understand is that whoever they vote for, it makes little difference because the "government machine" continues regardless and is owned and run by unelected people.

Putin is correct. The Chinese know it, as do most of the nations of western Europe, South America, Africa, and east Asia.

Several nations have tried "de-dollarization" in the past, but they (Saddam Hussein, Ghadaffi) have failed and been killed for their efforts.

What the world needed was a grouo of nations strong enough (economically and militarily) to "stand up" to the BIG BANKS that control the U.S. and most western governments. Russia, China and the other BRICS nations represent such a group. With their combined industrial output, massive gold reserves, huge combined populations, enormous untapped natural resources, huge reserves in U.S. dollars (which they can dump onto to market), and recent success in creating an alternate, non-dollar based system of credit, the world may see a two-tiered monetary system in which the U.S. dollar no longer monopolizes all money and credit.
