I live in Florida. Never once in more than a decade living here have I heard a single person speaking Creole. Heard plenty of English, Spanish, and German, though. I guess it's a factoid if I ever get on Jeopardy and I select the third most spoken languages in your state category. But I'm still going to write "Suck it Trebek" as my answer anyway.

LTER: You must not work around resorts. I run corporate events, and working with "back of house" setup workers etc. in all the Florida hotels, speaking Creole would be a huge asset. They all speak Creole, and very few speak more than a few words of English. Mostly Haitians working in the service corridors.
In Minneapolis where I live, Somali and Russian would be good languages to know. Naturally in Texas, Arizona and Las Vegas it's Spanish (not a "third" language as this article is concerned).
And in China? In my experience, Chinese.
I'm usually drunk when I'm around any resorts in Florida, so maybe it all sounds Creole to me.

Germans have been in this country long before the US revolution. So I can understand that some retain their ability to speak the language. The pilgrims if I'm not mistaken were English but settled in the Netherlands before coming to the New World and the Dutch language is almost Germanic or very similar.

In another couple of generations English will occupy the position Vietnamese does now.
Problem with it is it breaks it up into state. My state has a big city that occupies a teeny tiny corner of the state but is densly populated with recent immigrants. So the rest of the state ( about 97% of the land mass ) isnt represented in the chart.

I speak tagalog here in CA but I don't think it's more spoken than all other asian languages...of course if you visit medical facilities it's probably the most spoken that's because it's the profession most filipinos gets into. Actually spec (Spanish) is the majority language here in my opinion but of course the article says other than English and Spanish. What surprise me the most is the "phuck Kim long" or "Pho king" lingo (Vietnamese) which is spoken in 4 states that includes Nebraska mind you.
WTF is going on in America anyway, it's not the America I remember. I go to the national parks or attractions and I don't hear anyone speaking english anymore other than the guides.
